    Obviously not the cheapest or easiest route but it's really cool they build the car almost all Jaguar. NOT a cheap car to work on, restore or modify. Certainly won't see one of those next to you at the next stoplight. Really unique car.

      @@AutotopiaLA My favorite part, and it was surprising after seeing the burnouts at the beginning of the video, is that it is a souped up Jaguar 12 cylinder, not an American V8. Don't get me wrong, I love American V8s, but not in an E type (although I wouldn't turn one down either). He said it was bored out 4mm and had a stock crank/stroke; I have to think it has an aggressive cam profile and maybe bigger valves. Weber carbs and headers don't seem like they are enough to turn this kitty into such a fire breather.

Nobody else will have the same thing at the local car show. I've never seen a jag peel out like that, damn. I'm guessing you'll either need to be a mechanic or be married to one to own that jewel. About the only thing I'd want are some wire spoke chrome wheels. Thank you for showing it.

      Very impressive.
      My only criticism would be the lack of any explanation of how they got 500bhp from an engine that made 300bhp standard.
      From what I know of V12 Jaguar engine a 200bhp power increase is rather unlikely from 400cc capacity increase plus headers and six Weber set up.

    • @julianneale6128
      @julianneale6128 6 лет назад +1

      Paul Almond I personally can tell you a little. The Jag V12 was originally designed as a racing engine for the 24 hour Le Mans. Only then did they modify it for road use. It was always ment to be fuel injected but Jaguar's budget was getting high and so they replaced it with 4 side draft carburettors, which didn't help. The overhead cam shafts were for high reving but the carb setup was for low end torque so it was a bit of a mismatch... They increased the capacity from 5.0L to 5.3L also for more torque. The ignition system had issues with developing a good spark at higher rpm. So the first production engines were only 276 bhp. The compression ratio was steadily increased and by (in Britain) 1980 the power was up to 300 bhp. For the most part the compression ratio was kept low for American emission laws. When have you ever heard a Jag V12 over 3000 rpm, people just used the torque... Having said all of that, this was a race derived V12 that was easily able to unleash lots of power. By replacing the pistols for higher compression ones is a very good start (I hear people modify and use Suburu pistons). All engines are simply just air pumps and this engine was asphyxiated, and so by letting it breath properly that alone will instantly go from 276 bhp to (very roughly) 320 bhp. Unless you want to go racing the cams are happy up to around 6500 rpm so the ignition needs to be attended to to get a lot of good sparks... Increasing the capacity by using the crank from the 6.0L engine can also help too, the later racing engines were stretched all the way from 5.3L to 7.4L! I hope this to a small degree will help you understand the potential of this engine...

    I love this channel and the Jag is awesome!! Never seen anyone pull that kind of power out of that particular V12, but the sound is amazing. Only thing about the car that is throwing me off is the exhaust. Looks like an afterthought underneath. That kind of cash flowing, I'd expect to see all stainless and perfect piping. Other than that, very cool ride.

      Crazy as it may sound, that Jaguar V12 was continually developed for the next 20 years. One version grew to 7.0litres, was race-prepped by TWR, dropped into the XJR12 and then raced in the Group C championship. It went on to win Le Mans in 1990.
      In that form the engine was making 730 bhp and 579 lb.ft. The car could do 229 mph.
      One of the most famous race cars of all time.

    Nice car,
    I don't like the fact that 2 e type jags are being used to make 1 car,
    E TYPE JAG
    Always and will be my favourite car,.
    I am from England 🇬🇧, back in the seventies you would see quite a few E types wrapped around the telephone poles because they had drum brakes all round, then they started putting discs on the front,
    I had a side business in early eighties through to 1990,
    By day I was a Roofer, by night I would buy any Jag engines mostly from the scrap yards around Norfolk UK,
    Straight six were very cheap almost give them to you,
    The V12 A different story
    I started paying between £250 to £750 per V12 JAG engine,
    Most were non running,
    Some would display them in pubs and clubs or in their homes,
    Trouble begun when TOP GEAR UK 🇬🇧 programme, started off showing a V8 and V12 stripped out engine block as coffee tables with glass top ,
    I'd already done that with Formula one tyres and of course JAG ENGINES,
    BUT after Top Gear started showing V8 and V12 engine blocks as coffee tables,
    The engine prices went silly prices, £10.000 ten thousand pounds,
    Now you won't find any available,
    Interestingly in the early eighties the carburetors were worth more then the actual engine
    Same as Twin 40 weber carburetors, 2nd hand non working pair , £1000 .
    So now i stick to 2 stroke mopeds and scooters but sadly the prices have sky rocket over last 5 years here in UK,
    Great videos keep them coming 👏, and kudos to the car and engine builders.

    Love the Concept of a SWB V12 (easier to go with the series 1 windscreen w 3 wiper blades than to go w series 3 even tho more rakish to facilitate the top fitting). Would love to see it with the series 1 (smooth fenders) tho. Supposedly the V12 frame makes that impossible.

    Wow - that is gorgeous and FAST. I know the 'purists" will disagree, but I have always preferred the looks of the Series III cars, with the larger grill and the flairs (although the taillights are suspect). Hmmm - my retirement fund is not doing well at all - I could afford one of these and it would probably appreciate more...

Then you have to fit it, body work, align it ( it only has maaaybe 250 adjustment points as it is not just one panel, but many bolted together. ), paint it. Final fit and finish. AutotopiaLA Oh,yea,I have no doubt! But these guys have big bucks to do these projects. I wonder though if the owner of Chips XKE ever takes it out and enjoys it,or is it a garage queen that is mainly an investment? When I see these cars that are all pristine you know nobody ever flogs them like you guys did with this Jag. It’s a shame to have such a nice car and only wax it and put the cover back on. They were made to DRIVE and enjoy.

    Hi Shawn thats a nice car i like the fact that all the parts are from other Jaguar cars and the build is clean in my personnel opinion with the bleu i will change the chrome parts for something more dark mat black or something what do you thing

      Avant gard would be cool now but remember that he built this car almost 15 years ago. Done now it would be cool to flush mount and maybe matte or color match?

      Shawn, this is sad news indeed.
      I was wondering if some form of tribute to Henry could be arranged with past guests from your program could meet to gather and remember an awesome man who loved his family and his business and his deep commitment to 🏎️ racing.
      Henry reminded me of Tomy Dressi in that cars are for 🏀 balls-out fun and excitement.
      This painful sad time reminds me of the racing death of the photographer who was at a event several months back when a inept driver drove into people killing an innocent person and then fled the scene.

    Why do you need to destroy two antique cars to make what is essentially a short wheel base V12. Get a V12 and cut out the required amount out of the tub = reattach and put on series 1 doors - this way only one classic is destroyed. I am not complaining as this makes my original V12 even rarer and more valuable - in the years to come the car in this vid will be worth no where near the original and people will be converting this back to original.

    • @AutotopiaLA
      @AutotopiaLA  6 лет назад

      Builder/owner choice. You’d have to speak with him for answers to your questions. I just thought it was a really cool car cause I had never been in an E type that had 500 hp.

    • @joeblow3823
      @joeblow3823 6 лет назад +1

      With fuel injection and converting the engine to 6 litre spec (I dont know why they only went to 5.7 with this car) they would have achieved even more power.
