RIP Bucky, you were wonderful. You’ve been for a long time the greatest exponent of a beautiful style of guitar playing, and now your son is. I never had the occasion to meet you. I wish I had, but you made my life better anyway. I wish you endless joy where you are now.

Bucky touched the hearts and lives of everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. Those who met him, have been blessed with their own favorite "Bucky stories" that will endure forever. Truly a legend as a person and a musician!
I live in northeastern New Jersey and have had the opportunity to see Bucky play MANY times over the years. As well, I'm fortunate to have been able to work for and spend time talking one on one with him and to watch him play from 3 feet away. He did not have the sort of ego that said that because we were in a small workshop, he should not play a couple of tunes just for the joy of it. I can say that without a doubt he is as a player and a human being, one of the finest men to walk this Earth. He is friendly, kind and gracious. I was never made to feel anything less than special. The first time he met my wife, he kissed her hand in saying hello. If that does not tell you the character of this man, than nothing will. His smile is genuine, not something that he puts on with his suit when he goes out to perform. Many people are described as "one of a kind", Bucky is one of them. Those of us who have had the chance to hang with him are the better for that.
100% correct on everything you said. One time at a festival, I found myself right ahead of him in a food/drink line, and he nudged me and asked "do you know if they have chocolate milk?".. of course I didn't know (and I thought the question interesting)... but it gave me a chance to thank him for many enjoyable hours listening to him and we briefly shared small talk. Only years later on John P's radio show did someone mention Bucky's affinity for chocolate milk, and then I read about it in John's book. Didn't realize it was a fairly well known thing about him! The most important thing- I remembered his humble nature and kindness. He couldn't have been a nicer man. And what a jazz legend and unique innovator on that rhythm guitar- right up there with Freddy Green! Long may you live Bucky!
I met him years back and he played with many of my family members who were also guitarists..he heard my name and invited me to his home and offered me free guitar lessons... I will miss him and will look forward to those lessons upstairs

I watch you with your pop on stage and it reminds me of how I used to handle things as well.

I had the pleasure of watching Bucky sitting in with John at Birdland a few years ago (around 2012). They are both amazing guitar players and were jokefully exchanging phrases - John would play something really fast and Bucky would smile and just respond with a few expertly phrased notes. It was great fun!
A Paterson New Jersey born legend. What an exceptional guitar player and an even more exceptional human being. Rest in peace both Bucky and Ruth Pizzarelli who passed less than a week apart from one another last month.

What a darling sweet man...
Bucky has been a huge influence thro my musical life(60 years playing guitar).I took up 7 string in late 60s
after he converted from 6 to 7 because of George Van Eps demonstrating his Gretsch production model
Before that Van Eps had the only one,his treasured converted Epiphone.
I was encouraged by his first LP s ,to fnd a2nd hand one in the UK,and,armed with the 3 articles in guitar player magazine
was soon using it in our guitar duo.
I collected Bucky’s LPs and CDs,then discovered his son’s music.
I drove a few hundred miles to see his son in a jazz club,which is now,alas,a pole dancing club
Also I was lucky to hear and meet Bucky in Wakefield UK around 15 years ago and was able to try his Benedetto 7 string
Which was so comfortable to play.
Having followed John’s weekly internet radio show for many years,I was sad to learn that his father at 90 had suffered a stroke.
He is surrounded by his loving family,after being probably the most recorded sideman on numerous recordings,including many pop hits.
Bucky,I love you and thank you for all the years you have given me pleasure, with George Barnes,your son,and your solo records
Hope you will still be able to enjoy some playing at home,and join in with the family get togethers as you did when younger with your

I caught Bucky doing an intimate, small club, one night stand in New Orleans with the great Zoot Sims (circa late 70’s). It was a VERY special evening.
First time I heard Bucky was in a duet with George Barnes. I've followed him for nearly 50 years of my own life. He was a class act!
Bucky was an incredible player, but more than that, he was an incredible person and friend. RIP!

Surfing the net for Carly Simon to Little Richard then I said what about Bucky Pizzarelli. Then I came upon this video and did not know that he had passed. RIP. God was he good! Nothing like seeing Bucky perform live. I remember the place I think Meadowlands New Jersey (or close the name escapes me) with Benny Goodman and his band, outdoor venue in the 80's or 90's. A fan sat behind me and kept yelling "Bucky! Bucky!" Everytime I think of Pizzarelli I think of that fan yelling. One of my favorite albums is "Somebody Loves Me" with Zoot Sims and Buddy Rich and my all time favorite album is "Nightwings" with Joe Venuti and playing "I'm Coming Virginia," "Nuages" and "Spiegle Blues" (the latter finds Pizzarelli overdubbing a second guitar). The duets include highly enjoyable versions of "Pennies From Heaven," "Joepizz" and an original called "The Real Godfather Blues." God Bless his family also!

No exaggeration. Besides his place in rhythym guitar history, Bucky is the warmest human being on earth. Bucky made you feel like you were a lifelong friend even if you had a 20 minute conversation like I did with him, probably 20 years ago. I love Bucky Pizzarelli.

I heard an interview on WMAL in Washington DC, about 1975 by Felix Grant; Bucky was telling Felix, when Bucky heard/saw the 7 string Benedetto guitar, he had to have it.
