My biggest fear as a type II diabetic. Mine is in remission, so to speak, on the Keto plan. So hopeful that it will prevent Alzheimer’s as well. Thanks!
Yes: Lessen risks of Alzheimer’s by ending diabetes by lowering carbs & sugars, obesity, cigarettes drugs & alcohol. No fun I know. Time to get healthy yesterday
You should check out Dr. Ken Berry...he has lots of videos on keto/carnivore diet and diabetes.I don't think you have anything to worry bout as long as you stick with it :).But for optimal health you would be better shying away from the veggies which contain oxelates and other harmful substances and stick with meat products. But listen to your body.If certain foods cause problems with inflammation stay clear
I went Sugar free about 8 years ago when I started to get symptoms akin to Alzheimers. It took quite a while for me to realise what was causing my problem. I was 52 at the time. My sugar addiction was huge! I would eat a whole big bar of chocolate and packet of Fruit pastels every Evening. That was apart from cakes Buscits and sweets during the day. I even told some family members that I thought my mind was going. so many awful symptoms. I also used to get Nightmares regularly. All the symptoms I was experiencing have now all but gone and I have never been tempted to go back to my old way of eating. It makes me feel very sad that so many others are experiencing the same thing , and much worse than I did!
My 98 yr mother’s Diabetes1 was also reversed by going low-carb low sugar for a year eating healthy & a lot less frequency, smaller portions & “Int Fasting 16-8” Drug metformin was taken away. Incredible Testimonial
Im 28 and im having feinting spells where everything goes buzzy and dark and i have to eat sugar to feel better but its short lasted. I wake up in sweats from vivid nightmares. Constant brain fog, confusion, and i have no way of planning or executive function. Did you follow this videos instructions or what did you do different in your diet? Im very interested to find out more and stop feeling hopeless.
@@RemyRiversI am sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time! In answer to your question I actually changed my diet over a decade ago as I had what I thought were dementia type symptoms and after a lot of research and digging around I came to the conclusion it was sugar. I was also getting frequent nightmares and my mind was becoming more and more confused. I also couldn’t stand bright lights or loud noises. I gave up all sugar, not only sugar in Tea etc but hidden sugar in condiments etc. The nightmares disappeared and the dementia type symptoms went away. I also more or less gave up processed food and wheat/ gluten. Where I am now is I cook everything from scratch, eat loads of vegetables and oily fish. Some meat and make my own Rye bread. I have chocolate as an occasional treat and use a tiny bit of Honey in my Tea. I am a lot better than I was and would never go back to the way I was eating. This worked for me anyway ! Hope that answers your question 😊
Alexandra Grayson extra virgin olive and avocado oil are very healthy, you could make them yourself if you wanted . It’s what I use for salads . For cooking it’s butter and lard .
Thanks for the info Becky. I'm going through a phase of tucking into roasted root veggies. Just coat 'em in a little olive oil and throw the tray in the oven. Seems to be working. 😉
You are talking so much sence....but im afraid in England low fat is still king ...My mother 90yrs has last stages dementia ...she eats so much sugar ...she has been like this all her life @ began with dementia in her 60s ...i am so aware of what i eat @ have cut out all processed sugary foods .@wheat..my brain is sharp @ it was not before...so why are' nt the medics backing this....??????
it could be a lack of fat. I have heard of people perking up after eating coconut oil. It could be that pharmco wants to call it diabetes so they can sell drugs, and it is probable that anyone in a study is on the low fat high carb diet, so they would likely be diabetic as well.
Have you seen the Ted Ed talk on Alzheimer’s? They talk about how nuns don’t get this disease because of how much they read every single day. Pretty fascinating watch!
My grandfather had Alzheimer's. He constantly would ask, "How old are you?" And he was amazed when i drove him home from my parents house ( 10 minute drive). I have read that fasting helps a lot because it kicks in autophagy (at a certain number of hours..depending on your diet, etc.) and the recycling of cells and build up. (Sorry, i can't explain it well, but autophagy helps.) Maybe Google Autophagy and Alzheimer's. So reduce sugar , reduce feasting times, and do some fasting or intermittent fasting. Fasting can have some great benefits and helps your organs get some rest.. and you will reduce your fat stores, etc. We have always been told... eat lots of little meals.. um, nope, i disagree.
I was watching a TV show last night and the woman said I've cut all carbs out of my diet no more carbs for me. I eat nothing but salad and lots of veggies now... Does she not know that there are carbohydrates in vegetables?
My mom has Alzheimer’s & sees an endocrinologist and she shows no markers of diabetes - no elevated blood sugar or anything else. So I’m not sure how Alzheimer’s can be called Type 3 diabetes & for the Dr to see nothing diabetes related in her blood work. I’m being serious. I’m feeding my mom a low carbohydrate/keto type diet - trying to reverse the damage. We’ll see if it helps.
It's not the sugar, but rather the insulin levels in the blood. Insulin levels are not usually tested by drs. All food intake causes glucose and insulin spike.
Sorry your mom has Alzheimer’s. As the children, lessen risks. My Mom at 98 never got irreversible Alzheimer’s. Her diabetes1 was reversed within a year of low-carb low sugar “Interm Fasting 16-8” & dropped +20 Lbs
Wow! I was just reading something written by Dr. Michael Murray about the Low Carb/Keto connection to Alzheimer's. Great dietary information. Wonder video for all.
Very informative, thank you Dr. Becky. I’m a vegetarian and I try eating healthy fats but my Cholesterol level is usually on the border line. Dr. Becky would you be able to do a video on this subject. Could do also talk about foods that reduce Cholesterol levels. Thank you.
I was told 20 years ago after boing diagnosed with hashimotos, to start eating like a diabetic by my endocrinologist. While I was pretty faithful at this way of eating , I was and am still labeled insulin resistant at age 59. But does this mean I will be heading toward the "type 3 diabetes" ? Or do genetics still contribute?
Dr. Becky, your discussion makes me think...could carbohydrates in the diet mimic fermented carbohydrates drunk in the form of alcohol. Many similarities come to mind. Fatty liver disease, brain damage, post consumption sleepiness, etc. Could it be said that we have become carbo-holics. After all alcohol is fermented carbohydrates. Are our bodies the distillery?
As always, THANK YOU Dr. Becky! Do you consider beans such as garbanzo, navy, barlotti etc. and also lentils as a healthy addition to a ketogenic meal?
My father never ate sweets or desserts - he hated them. His lipids were always extremely high - cholesterol around 500 and high triglycerides caused pancreatitis. He had followed a high fat, low carb diet long before it became fashionable. And yet he had Alzheimer's. Unfortunately I am headed the same way... very high lipids. I follow a low carb diet but just can't bring down the lipids.
I'm currently low carbing but am considering going keto. I have been looking into alternatives to flour and have been using almond flour (ground almonds) but in the uk almonds are expensive. I started to look into different nuts and their carb counts, and every where I look I get a different number. for instance google states that cashews have 30g of carbs per 100g but then I look at a few websites and I'm getting numbers between 28g to 14g. Is there a site where I can get accurate information as I really need a cheaper alternative to the almond
Mead Vice Pecan and Brazil nuts are the best for (low) Carbs, still quite expensive tho www.dietdoctor.com/ if you look down the page it has a picture guide on different types of foods, really helpful. But don't make the mistake I did and eat loads of them, they're full of Calories! ......Harumph!!
I've taken care of many people with Alzheimer's that are Slim and that never had a problem with insulin resistance. My father was a picture of positive nutrition. He got Alzheimer's like his brother who was slim and a healthy eater as well. Alzheimer's is probably in the air. Maybe we should check with their dumping in those chemtrails.
The question is what disease isn't caused by sugar and its oxidation? They're all called different things but I believe, as a non doctor w yrs of experience and observation in my own life, that it's all sugar. Especially the unnatural hfcs and the explosion in the 70s 80s of hfcs, fast food, etc. Eliminate or reduce it down to one day a week and it starts to fade away. That and I would eliminate the seed oils and use olive and coconut in my cooking and dressing.
Of course the medical community haven't accepted this. They are at the behest of the pharmaceutical industry. They want to patent a drug that will rake in $billions. They won't want it cured by diet and fasting, that won't earn them a penny. You're being naive.
Every person is different. An individual's level of insulin resistance will determine the level of carbs they can handle. My coaching program includes my 0123 Diet Plan, which is low-carb and also a Keto Food Plan. If you want to learn about the coaching program, you can do so here: www.drbeckyfitness.com/coaching
Thanks for the video. I have avoided full fat foods for several years, and have been able to get my cholesterol levels back to acceptable levels. You recommend certain saturated fats for understandable reasons, but I am worried that eating them will adversely affect my cholesterol levels.
Before starting any diets, especially fad diets, you should have a conversation with your doctor. And yes. This is the new fad diet! Not every diet fits every person. Not once do I hear any of these quack suggest that.
I agree with everything but the nuts.almonds and other nuts and veggies do contain some naturally occurring cyanide.Even though these foods may not hurt you in short term long term that minor damage could be problematic. But it's still better then all those yummy cakes and pies
Stop calling everything related to bad diet 'diabetes.' Type 1 and 2 are already radically different conditions in terms of cause and treatment. As an endocrinologist was quoted: if my type 2 patients took care of themselves like my type 1 patients, they wouldn't be patients anymore. Eat clean and healthy and you can prevent so many issues, but type 1 is not one of them
I don't think you could call this diabetes. Diabetes means you urinate more. Hence the reason we have diabetes mellitus, type 1 or 2 and also diabetes Insipidus! Just saying don't give it that name.

Thank you Dr. Becky! SUGAR really is the root of all evil, isn't it?
Yea we avoid Bad processed convenience junk. Buy eat good fruits daily, always ready “GO TO” snacks +“Int Fasting 16-8”. We dropped 1/2 to 1/Lb wk & reached goal weight.

2 grams of saturated fat to one gram of protien.Thats what people like Dr. Ken Berry and Shawn Baker say. Both are big fans of the carnivore diet

Yes , but the carbs in veggies are so locked up in fibre , hardly any of them are absorbed by your body .
bullshit carbs always turn into sugar.
