Thanks for your time in reviewing this. I had actually considered buying this camera but it’s not worth the increased cost. I’d have to to say Eufy is still the better option.
Appreciate your time to bring us this review. I am all in with Ring cameras and have been pleased with their cameras. I will stick with my previous gen models. Ring you need to get it together if not you will be the modern day Blackberry.
I just want to start by saying thank you for working hard and getting this review out rather early. I'll update this after I'm done with the video. Edit: Thanks for being so straightforward. I don't understand why they won't update the connection, frame rate and sensitivity options. Ya know things people use all the time. This camera does nothing. And someone at Ring/Amazon knows this which is why they removed all of the old Spotlight Cams.
I have been back and forth between Ring and Nest for years and own many of the cameras from each. One thing I noticed with Ring is that it would often miss the actual event because it doesn't record until it detects motion. When I would check the footage, it would often have only recorded the tail end of what happened. The Nest has 24/7 continuous recording. Aside from doing a better job of catching the actual events, I could always scrub back several seconds/minutes to see what actually happened. This has always been my biggest disappointment with Ring. Even on AC power, it will only record in 5-30 second "snapshots". A lot can happen in 5 seconds.
YES! same for my ring camera, it's so annoying! A dude was stealing a package from my porch and it started too late and didn't catch him picking it up so couldn't tell what he actually did. I've tried adjusting all the settings. It needs to alwasy been buffering so it can catch all the action, Ring really needs to fix this.
Same. Though I do like how Eufy’s spotlight cam pro 2 allows you to choose the color temp! A range would be nice, (I personally think 3500k is the “sweet spot”)
This camera is actually really really good as long as you just turn off the birds eye view for now like he said. Great preroll feature, awesome night vision too, and the warm spot lights works perfect with my other lights. very happy!
I like the ability to dim the lights! Cons: battery life is atrocious, I thought it needed a week to stabilize, but it's draining 1 battery every 20 days. To hopefully solve this, I ordered the power cable from Ring
Hi sir, I need some help, 2 months ago I installed a spotlight cam pro with a solar panel, pre-charging the battery 100%, but now I have 25% battery, means the solar panel is not charging the battery, so I have to do something else into the settings?
I liked your review. I have almost all ring cameras but if ring doesn't have the 4k upgrade version soon then I will soon consider other brands. What's the point of to upgrade with same old technology?
Great review i nearly bought this today to replace my old ring spotlight cam. I will keep the old device 👍🏾 all they've added was yellow lights birds eye view and weak detection 😂
Excellent review! Actually your review last year comparing the Floodlight Cam Plus with the Floodlight Cam Pro convinced me to get the Plus; primarily because Ring opted for a warmer, less brighter light (Just like this Spotlight "Pro"), and like you I thought the Birdseye View was a silly gimmick.
Wait so is the delay time of the notification alert of 6.18 seconds normal? That’s about what my new one does i honestly thought it would notify you immediately as soon as it detects motion
The 3D motion detection/bird's eye view is very useful if you want to limit person detection within a certian range. For example, by setting this range my camera/doorbell only alerts me if someone walks into my frontyard or driveway but not when they are on the sidewalk across the street. Beyond this range the motion is still recorded with no notification.
@@LifeHackster That might work if the camera is mounted at a high enough position and you want to exclude pedestrians/vehicles further away from the house, but I still want all motion recorded. I just don't want to be notified for people/traffic beyond a set distance.
@@FCP757 With the 3D motion detection which has a 25 foot limit, so it still records motion events on your sidewalk across the street without notifying you? Let me know because I'll have to test this out.
@@LifeHackster I haven't got the Spotlight Cam Pro, yet, so I am speaking from my experience with the Video Doorbell Pro 2. Its 3D motion detection has a range of 30 feet, which is right in the middle of the sidewalk near me. I set the range to 25 feet so that it only notifies on people walking up to my house. According to the instructions in the Ring app, motion beyond 25 feet would be ignored. However, cars driving by and pedestrians on both sides of the street are still recorded.
@@FCP757 Ok, now you have made me test this out lol... anyways, with this Spotlight Cam PRO, nope..whenever you turn ON 3D motion detection, notifications and recordings are limited to the 25-30 foot range (BTW, in my testing it only detects at 25 feet with max 30 foot setting)...beyond that, it will not detect and record and this with both smart alerts (person detection) On and OFF. I haven't tested this out yet with my Ring PRO 2 doorbell because I didn't really need to record cars driving by or people walking in the sidewalk... but if you do have recordings that you didn't get notified about the the alerts are not snoozed or scheduled, I will do a side by side comparison of this 3D feature between the spotlight cam and the doorbell because I think it is still just a gimmick.
Do you notice the preview dashboard doesn’t refresh as frequently as your other cameras? My older cameras refresh (in preview mode) every 15 seconds. The new Spotlight Cam Plus doesn’t refresh that often if I leave it on the the Dashboard Preview screen.
I am really enjoying the ring doorbell pro 2...so still going to give this camera a try...cant do any worse than my wyze outdoor cams...connection has become horrible with them live view takes like 15 seconds after alert if the live view works at all.
Looking at the floodlight cam for my side door that overlooks the driveway and garage. But looking at the spotlight cam for the front door. Want to replace the existing light to illuminate the front porch and give me a cam, but not blind the delivery guy dropping off a pizza. Would the spotlight be a good choice or does it have a direct beam that would blind ppl knocking on your door?
I have seen people putting the spotlight cam overlooking their front door. You can also adjust the brightness of the spotlights..also even on the brightest setting, it is not that bright.
I wish someone would do a more in depth review of the power connection. Its beyond me why ring still does'nt make a 12v or 24v camera we can feed thru existing analog camera wiring. So in the DVR world of camera's there is a 12v two conductor wire to every camera. And Im telling my client to use ring now for cloud recording. But they insist on a USB plug. I want to power they 50ft feet away thru 2 conductors. Also if they made more than one Cat-5 POE cameras that would be great too. I have a lot of homes with NVRs using cat-5 to each camera. Any thoughts
I love your reviews - the most detailed out there! Thank you! I can not find any information about battery life for the ring Spotlight Cam Pro/Plus Battery - can you help?
Ring better come out with better camera's or people are going to start to drop them. Hey Ring, this is the time you need to make 4k camera's. You better do it sooner then later unless you want to lose customers. If you don't bring at least 2k camera's by mid next year you can kiss 7 customers goodbye because me and the neighbors will drop you. Lifehackster, thank you for all your hard work reviewing all these camera's.
Are you ready to pay for 4k? Is the average person ready for that? They are already expensive. Imagine 4k Ring camera prices? I am going to test drive the 2k Eufy and see how much better it is before I just ditch Ring all together.
There's only a couple of Ring cameras that are PoE. Stick up cam Elite or their older PoE doorbell. I highly suggest if you already have wiring/PoE, Ring will be my last option.
I'm not sure if you can figure out my problem with my Spotlight cam Pro but my issue is that I'm having trouble getting notifications on it I do use a mesh Network at home however this is working on a 5 GHz spec I'm able to do a lot of you with no problem it's just not picking up notifications I did a hard reset I move my routers around and did everything possible and it's still giving me problems what do you think it is do you think an update needs to happen is there issues with your notifications that's being sent to your phone
I don’t have notification problems but are you getting recordings and not just notifications? If you do, then it might be your phone…try resetting your phone. If you don’t get recordings, then turn off radar detection and play around with the motion settings.
@@LifeHackster okay I'll try that is that referring to the bird's eye view turn it off this is really strange the camera is brand new and I have any issues I'm not sure if it has anything to do with my mesh Network I do have a eero routers. This is ridiculous
Hey Lifehacker. Quick question. So the Spotlight cam pro. When it is in wired mode can you set the spotlights to be on all night with the light schedule or no?
Well I’ve had mine for about a year with pros and cons of course. The bird’s eye feature is junk. Shows an overhead google photo with a white van parked two doors down from me. Curious how old this picture is and why can’t it be updated. The picture quality is good and almost covers the entire shared driveway of my townhome. I guess my biggest complaint it loses WiFi connection every 1-3 months. Sometimes it comes back in a few hours but I’ve had to reset the entire WiFi connection twice, why? I even purchased a XFi pod from Xfinity to help boost the signal out back but it still looses WiFi connection. I have never had any connection issues with my Ring Doorbell Pro. Anyone else having WiFi issues with this Cam?
If I do end up getting the pro I’m going to wait until Ring fixes the bugs. I did not like that now there Solar Pannel connection is now USB C. Now I have to buy a whole new one just for it. I already have cables but for the plus version do they also have USB C?
I do like the camera and the ability to see who is approaching or eyeballing our property. We had two thefts during Christmas which prompted the purchase of this. However, the soft lights are disappointing, I want disruptive bright to see them clearly. And the pre roll view was confusing due to the frame rate being so low that by the second the HDR kicks in, we are looking at their backs. I read that the pre could be switched off, but even so, it remained on. Is there a way to toggle it off for only the HDR view? I didn't understand the Birds Eye purpose for the reason you gave. I'm going to turn off the bird's eye view to see if that improves anything. Are the spotlights supposed to come on when someone approaches or are they only manually activated?
The Pro has HDR, 3D Birds Eye view, low res pre-roll in battery mode, audio+. The plus is basically a refresh of their old spotlight cam…same features.
Unreal… Is there ANY camera quality improvements from previous Spotlight like sensor update or low light performance? Or simply a refresh? Does new Spotlight Plus have same sensor / image quality as Spotlight Pro?
Thank you for taking the time to review the pro version. I am looking to upgrade my blink to ring and wanted to get your feedback if I should go with the plus version. Thank you for your feedback.
All that matters to me now is just the motion distance detection. The sooner the camera starts to detect and record the better. Good review video awesome 👌 now I know my current ring camera is still the best for me and no need to upgrade it to the useless pro version that limits motion detection distance.
Sticking with my current ring, spotlights that I’m more than happy with, almost bought the two pack of the new eufy cams. Then reality hit when I realized wait, I’m gonna pay six years worth of a ring subscription for new cameras just to say I’m not paying a ring subscription anymore. Lmao.
My ring cameras work really good especially the stickup cameras. I see all the negative comments but give me a break i have a Stickup camera thats 4 years old and it works perfect and cathces all motion 99% of the time it is a plug power and the othe 2 stickup cameras r battery powered and the spotlight camera also. I like my stickup cameras better than the spotlight. Yall want it all and your ice cream also! These cameras are veey good for the price!
I have 10 ring stick up cams with batteries. It’s very impressive in pitch darkness. You really don’t need the spotlight deal. I would rather just get a dedicated floodlight or motion floodlight if it’s really necessary for you but the night vision on these cameras are impressive. And much more cheaper than this spotlight camera. Amazon will have them on sale shortly for the holidays. I still need 5 camera at least. They give you 30 day trial of the subscription so what I did was just wait to activate each camera Every 30 days. Spare me the $100 for a few months at least. And the 1080 p is fine!! 4K etc is for people with money. You better have internet speed for upload and downloading for those 4K cameras and routers. People on a budget who need cameras should consider these stick up cameras instead. I just wish they were made more rugged like the arlo cameras. The stick up camera looks more like for indoor use only. They don’t seem they can take a beating. Don’t put the the spotlight camera directly in the sun. I have a neighbor who has some in the sun and they are not holding up very well. They are deteriorating.
@@candyboyogunade4299 I would just get the cheapest ones. Don’t go all out for an expensive brand. Those things rot out overtime no matter what brand you buy. I don’t buy floodlight bulbs anymore either. I use regular LED light bulbs either soft white or daylight depending what you like. And the brightest bulbs out there like about 1600 lumens. I found those light bulbs work just as good as a floodlight bulb and it’s cheaper too. Those floodlights ring sells with the camera don’t look replacement friendly lol. Once the bulb goes out and it will mind you what are we suppose to do? They don’t sell the light bulbs from what I researched
I still prefer Ring and The Spotlight Pro over the others. The Pro gives improved variation of "Options." not every buy needs 40' view response etc.but may want a high quality reliable, durable product.
That's awful, Ring has turned into nothing but a cash cow for Amazon. It's like they think no matter how awful their Ring cameras are people will just buy them. I love their alarm but hate the cameras.
If ring is reading the comments just to let you know for so called “NEW” cameras I’m very disappointed. I like what I have now but expecting more and it was a huge let down smh.
hows Ring notification? how far will Ring camera pick up to receive notification? google nest camera notification is garbage and i never received videos at night and some at day time even with lots of activity
Imagine if Ring would update their sensors & cameras to the 4K / 12MP range. All haters would come back running, I’m sure of it. Reolink has the best cameras right now; It’s not even close. And no subscription fee is absolutely wonderful! But their two-way audio, app, desktop UI, and customer support are all SHIT. Updating the firmware on their cameras is not only cumbersome, but more often than not - the updates literally ruin everything your camera was already offering. The frustrations mount. And they have way too many models. It takes a week of research just to grasp what’s new vs old, what’s coming out soon vs what’s being discontinued, and what’s best for the area you’re trying to address. Watch enough videos, read enough Reddit discussions, and your head will spin. And by the time you’ve decided on the camera, it’ll be out of stock or it’s replacement will be released the following week. I was about to order four of their new 1224a models and they announce this new true color night vision tech with the upcoming CX410, but only 4MP? In a month, they’ll drop an 8 & 12MP version… goes on and on. Oh and did I mention it’s 2023 and Reolink still doesn’t provide rich notifications?! There’s stuff to hate about almost everything. It’s sad but if you want all bases covered, you need to mix & match brands. Ring still has the best two-way audio, app, integrated system, and rich notifications. Not everyone wants, or has the time to run 1000ft of Ethernet cable, learn the complexities of an NVR, do manual updates, etc. The way you do it is the best approach. A couple Reolink cams here, a couple of Ring cams there - all bases covered.
I have a Lorex wireless cam system and it sucks! The quality is awful, the intercom feature sucks, the app sucks. I want to like the ring system but the video quality is still so awful in 2023. Is there any wireless system with actual HD video?
I whole heartedly agree with this review. Massive disappointment over the previous generation of spotlight cameras. What's even worse is that you cannot buy the old ones most places anymore. It might be time to move on from Ring.
Pro is incredibly disappointing. It’s funny how WYZE camera is a cheaper camera with much better features. Ring just gotten lazy and adding unnecessary gimmicks.

Hi, thanks for this Video.. i am locking for a Camera with pre Notifikation …can anyone recommend me one ?
Thx
Pre-notification or pre-recording? As the pre-recording, most if not all wires or plug in cameras have this feature.
@@LifeHackster hi, pre recording is more important for me than the notifikation…
What’s the difference between the Pro and the Plus?
The Pro has HDR, 3D Birds Eye view, low res pre-roll in battery mode, audio+. The plus is basically a refresh of their old spotlight cam…same features.
@@LifeHackster Thanks. Do you think the lights are placed wrong? Instead of being on the sides should they be placed on the top and bottom?
Unreal… Is there ANY camera quality improvements from previous Spotlight like sensor update or low light performance? Or simply a refresh? Does new Spotlight Plus have same sensor / image quality as Spotlight Pro?
Another excellent review. You should use white electrical tape so you don't have to awkwardly cover up the QR code - just a thought.
I do have those stickers but I ran out. White electrical tape is a good tip and I might start using it. Thank you.
the warm yellow lights are the reason i switched from Ring to Eufy.. warm and yellow just look old and dates to me
Well dont get the pro
I didn't expect such bad upgrade... I'm not sure why the quality was not improved very much.
I got night owl 4K wireless camera with NVR recorder the resolution is not bad
How you only gonna have 7fps. They gotta do better
Thank you.
I can't wait for reolink door bell. Ring is officially out of my pick of cameras
Yeah, Ring use to innovate, now they have fallen off, and Eufy is now the big innovator for wireless cameras.
@@jcm9698 I am looking at eufy as a secondary system.
Good job
Sticking with my current ring, spotlights that I’m more than happy with, almost bought the two pack of the new eufy cams. Then reality hit when I realized wait, I’m gonna pay six years worth of a ring subscription for new cameras just to say I’m not paying a ring subscription anymore. Lmao.
I want bright lights to see people or things moving at night super BRIGHT.
I guess I'll hold off until next year
My ring cameras work really good especially the stickup cameras.
I plan on doing something like what you said but what brand of regular motion floodlights do you recommend
The Pro gives improved variation of
"Options." not every buy needs 40' view response etc.but may want a high quality reliable, durable product.
That's awful, Ring has turned into nothing but a cash cow for Amazon. It's like they think no matter how awful their Ring cameras are people will just buy them. I love their alarm but hate the cameras.
Something tells me that they might shut down.
@@michaeln.8401 doubtful. doing very strong
If ring is reading the comments just to let you know for so called “NEW” cameras I’m very disappointed. I like what I have now but expecting more and it was a huge let down smh.
Outdoor sync module
Spot on review, i too bought the pro camera, underwhelmed to say the least. A definite do not buy!
Yup I'm sending mine back
Guessing they're hoping for lots of uninformed sales- I get 2-4 a month advertisements because I have their thermostat...sad.
It's pro at taking your money
😂😂😂👍 nice one
PRO comes from "Promise to offer shit at $250 plus tax"
:)
Wow ring is still in 2010 when everyone is 2023
hows Ring notification? how far will Ring camera pick up to receive notification? google nest camera notification is garbage and i never received videos at night and some at day time even with lots of activity
My only gripe with Ring is that the video quality is not all that great, but other than that, it's been solid.
1080p! Well I was hoping to start updating my ring cameras. But looks like I will be witching to a different brand. Ring is not improving things
If only Ring would drop the subscription requirement, cloud dependency and 2012 laptop webcam quality they could be good.
I have a Lorex wireless cam system and it sucks! The quality is awful, the intercom feature sucks, the app sucks. I want to like the ring system but the video quality is still so awful in 2023. Is there any wireless system with actual HD video?
Ring has really gone down hill
I like radar though!
From saudi 👍
Looks like Ring has rung its own neck.
:)
This camera is terrible, regret buying it.
First Aussie 😁
