17:44 - CAT6 you want to push it in as far as possible. You really want to maintain the twist all the way to the connection point. When I terminate cat6 the casing is basically all the way up to the pins.
Excellent video! I especially liked how you explained how to terminate the Ethernet cable, and setting up the DVR system. Thanks for taking the time to explain everything so well!
This was clearly explained and visualized. Definitely bookmarking this video. Nice job. I feel like this system could be very practical for my house. Well done. This video must have taken quite a while to think through/film/install/edit. VO -= nice job. CG
Thank you so much! I always appreciate when someone recognizes the work that went into a video. This one particularly spanned 4-5 different days of filming, and then took me quite a while to edit as well due to all the footage I had!

I think I already have told you that some time back in the past, but as a non native english speaker you have a really awesome voice and pronunciation so that everything is clearly to understand. Although ain’t have trouble to understand people talking English quite fast, I find your voice / video / atmosphere very calming and unique. Keep it up and stay healthy:)

And your video help me a lot I don’t have any idea about how this work but you explained so well and help me . Thanks 🙏🏻
Why did you not use a weather tight connection to the outdoor camera? It creates a water tight seal and prevents corrosion. The camera mount has openings which expose the connection to the elements. Doing this will drastically extend the life of the cameras.
Thanks so much Carson for helping me to make my decision of getting security camera for my home. I've been thinking and looking for a while but I was not sure which to get. Your video is very helpful. Thank you. God bless.
Excellent job and very well explained. Thank you so much! I just need four cameras on a remote garage that does not have internet, so these look as though they're just what a I need. Thanks again!
Very good video. Thanks for sharing. I specifically like the round plate, with the blue old work electrical box you used in the ceiling. THAT really looked factory designed. The rectangular install looks sub-par. Going to look for some your previous videos.
Hi, at around 18:20 mark you didn’t put the weathershield ring before you terminate it so when you connect them together you can lock them? I also tape it after with self amalgamating rubber tape for extra seal likewise I go round once or twice on the junction box seal too. And I also seal the hole inside the junction with silicone sealant where the cable pass through once I get the correct length I needed inside the junction box.
As I see this is about a year old, have you been faced with lightening nearby causing the system to crash and reboot. I am near the capital of lightening here in the US and experienced originally lightening knocking out the cameras so that they needed to be replaced. I replaced the electrical box with a plastic one and that eliminated that issue. Now I have a 16 unit NVR that lightening knocking the whole unit even though it's on UPS. boxes for this are connected to metal eve's and I think this is providing a ground that may be feeding back through the system to have it trip.
Great video Carson. It's probably made me realise that I would need someone professional to install the system, however I really appreciate the review of the RLK.
Thank you for the great video tutorial. I have a question regarding the connection from the switch to the NVR or vice versa. I will be setting up a full wired ethernet system in my house. Do i need to run the NVR through the switch ?
Great video!! Have a question, im assuming you may use one a poe switch downstream to avoid having to install a cable per camera. I want to install several camaras that are all near each other and also quite far away from the nvr.
@Sergio Nunez You must have one RJ45 cable routed from each camera to the NVR so an audio/video feed is supplied. An alternative with ReoLink is to use wireless cameras for locations you don't want to run ethernet cable.

Outstanding vid. Have you seen the recording on this or any other system get activated due to the sudden brightness when a floodlight switches on? This is a problem on my old system that I am trying to avoid when I upgrade.
None really it’s purely a style thing and which you prefer. Bullet cameras are generally slightly cheaper so if you need to save money, you might by going with them over domes. The downsides of bullet cameras is it’s easier to tell where the camera is pointing at so if you don’t someone to tell that, then a dome may be the better option. I'm thinking about buying a PoE camera for live streaming via OBS. If I buy one of these cameras and just straight up plug them into my laptop (given the laptop provides DHCP for the port) does it provide an HTTP interface from which I can import the stream in OBS?
I’m a little unclear on the connection to a network system. I assume since this can operate without an internet connection the cameras are getting POE power from being plugged into the NVR. Does the network system require a powered switch? I’m planning a network setup in addition to the security system. Just don’t understand if I need to purchase a POE switch for my network cabinet. I’m new and just learning about network setup.
Nope! Here is how it goes: - Cameras plug into POE NVR ethernet ports - NVR itself can plug into your network via any ethernet port on your network. i.e., it does not need a POE connection to your network since it is powered by its own external power supply and does not require power over an ethernet line TL;DR: You can plug the NVR into a regular non-POE switch, but you cannot plug the cameras themselves into regular switch.
How do you get clients? Do they buy the nvr packages on their own and call you to install? Or do you buy the nvr packages and go to them? Can you explain how you charge the customer?
The “client” in this video is actually a family member, haha! They had seen my prior video and asked for my help on installing a new system and I told them that I would do it for free if I could film the endeavor and post it to RUclips
Do you find when running cable especially for residential it's best to run it around the exterior of the building rather than pulling up flooring boards etc?
Backup to step 1. Does the kit come with a mouse and keyboard, or does that software setup require a PC? If so, what about setup for customers with Mac/iPad hardware?
are those ethernet cables that come with the Reolink kit meant for outdoors? thinking about having these cables run outside on the side of the building.
No they’re not UV (outdoor) rated! Do not leave them exposed outside as over time they can very easily break down and the sheathing can become brittle and break! However if you just have the wire up in somewhere where it’s not exposed to sunlight and the weather, then you should be good!
@@carsonmtech Good to know!. Another question, how do you set these up for remote viewing off of the network the cameras are on? Would the Reolink app already set that up automatically?
How to save on cables? Are the following variants possible?: Variant 1: If I want to cover several remote yards/zones, can I use ethernet hubs to save on cables? Can each zone have 3-4 cameras connected to a hub and then use a single cable to connect each hub to a centralized NVR in my home? And also use 4-port NVR to connect 4 hubs with 7-8 cameras connected to each hub? Variant 2: Do cameras have two ethernet ports - IN/OUT in order to chain a long line of cameras with one cable? A cable gets OUT of one camera and gets IN another camera and then all these cameras are connected to hub/NVR with a single cable. Leading a dedicated cable to each camera sounds ridiculously overwhelming.
I mean I suppose you could but usually you wouldn’t want to because that’s a point of failure should the coupler go bad or the connection get loose or corrosion occurs on the pins within there
Hi, how about spider web on these reolink turret cameras? I just got rlc-510a camera system and all my bullet camera's are covered with spider web if I use night vision with IR leds. Some people saying needs changing from bullet to turret style camera some saying that I have to turn off IR lights and use external IR source.
Any difference between the two style cameras other than how they look? How easy are the dome to aim? I would suggest some silicone caulking around the box at the wall.
Specs on bullet and dome cameras are the same, it's a matter of preference. Silicone is not necessary, but the included weather-tight connectors should be installed before crimping on the RJ45 connector to ensure the connection is as sealed as the camera.
Is it possible with the Reolink RLK16-410B8 system to us a POE switch in my detached garage, about 40 feet from the house, so I only need to run 1 cable between the buildings?
Using reolink for 3+ years now and couldn't be more happy. Still maintains the quality and all the functions. Highly recommended

Very well done video! Keep it up.
Hi, I was wondering if you can refer a cheaper camera with 8 camera's. Thanks
GREAT video. Super detailed!
Did your kit come with the RJ45 connectors in the box? Mine didn’t.
Worth every penny
Are you using the latest NVR firmware? The UI looks like the dated one.
Awesome video! Thank you
1 of my cameras will be about 70 feet away I bought a 50' cable and a 25' cable. can I use a coupling routed in attic to the NVR this way coupling it?
I mean I suppose you could but usually you wouldn’t want to because that’s a point of failure should the coupler go bad or the connection get loose or corrosion occurs on the pins within there
Great video I learned plenty.
Do they offer 2 way talk and flood light cameras? Can you have it trigger smart lights if a person is detected?
Thanks
Is it possible with the Reolink RLK16-410B8 system to us a POE switch in my detached garage, about 40 feet from the house, so I only need to run 1 cable between the buildings?
What is the make and model number of the network rack on casters you show in the video that houses the NVR?
Great video! Job well done.
