If i want to change the whole LCD screen (not only the touch) do i need to open it from the back and take it all apart or i can do it the other way and only disconnect the 2 ribbons? I ve been extremely unlucky with my ebay purchases and i need to do it my self because the area i live in is very remote and shipping costs much. Please help me out with some info to DIY (myself!)
To replace the LCD in the Prius MFD 04-09 the entire unit has to be dis-assembled. Once the unit is removed from the housing, remove all the PCBs, cabling, and disconnect the ribbon cables. Then, when you get to the LCD the process is pretty straightforward in replacing the LCD. When re-assembling make sure to carefully check that all the cabling, wires, and brackets are properly installed otherwise the unit will not work. You can test the unit in your vehicle before re-mounting it to the plastic housing to ensure it's functioning correctly.
Thank you very much for the answer! It was a little late though...i did the change already and it wasnt successful because i didnt have the correct LCD part number, so it didnt work and i had to change it back to my old one which worked but its faded and wrinkled. Now both units work like before the change.
Raj, there's a 12v power supply board inside. We would need to confirm the year, make, model of your vehicle. If you're referring to the steering wheel volume controls, that could be an external issue. Also, there's a procedure you can do to hard reset the MFD but a hard reset will work just as well. It's not a typical symptom. Normally if the MFD is at fault, it's either loss of touch or power loss. Lastly, if it's a replacement with a different part no., certain features might be disabled if the part numbers aren't interchangeable. Hopefully this answers your question- please let us know if we can be of further assistance! :)

@@upfixauto : I believe this questioner wanted to do what I now want to do, which is to connect an aftermarket backup camera. According to the vendor, their system requires the C40 plug socket (I believe it's the centre white socket) in order to make the camera function. There seem to be two types of centre socket. The one required is the same as on the head unit you're working on here - i.e. it has 5 rectangular holes/sockets along the top edge in a -=-=- configuration as opposed to 3 rectangular holes/sockets - - -. My question is can the heads with the different sockets be recognised without removing them from the dash? Is the difference to do with the number of buttons on the head? Thanks for an interesting video.

Screens completely black, before the touch screen worked fine so the digitizer and screen itself seem to be in good shape. What causes the power loss? Trying to fix on my own if possible
The touchscreen is going bad. That is the part that needs to be replaced. In rare occasion some resistors and chips may have overheated causing this issue as well.
Your answer is unclear. I thought the LCD screen and digitizer overlay were two different things? The LCD screen can light up fine while the touch-screen digitizer does not work, but what to do when it is visa versa? I assume it is a power issue to the LCD screen?
