  • I don't know about you but I HATE MUDDING DRYWALL! But there are some tips and tricks I'd like to share with you to hopefully make you hate mudding drywall less using Rapid Sets "OnePass" Wall Repair. No, I'm not a professional but Ben from @Vancouver Carpenter is a professional. I've watched hours and hours of his videos over the years and I picked up a few things that really helped improve my drywall mudding game. I still HATE mudding drywall... but Ben made me hate it less.

Ben at Vancouver Carpenter is fantastic! We learned so much from him which we applied to our old farm house that we purchased a few years ago.
    Thanks for being awesome!

Making a chore as painful as drywall mudding , fun and entertaining as you did is an art of it's own!! Im not fast enough to use this for a large job but this is perfect for small jobs or repair!
    Thanks for demonstrating

my step 1 on drywall is to not hang it vertical, the seams are easier to hide running horizontal, especially with staggered joints and it gives some shear value to the wall, yeah it's more mudding and taping but its a flatter wall in the end.

    • @bradmaas6875
      @bradmaas6875 6 месяцев назад

Also, drywall has fibers that add to the strength of the sheetrock. Hanging vertically can give you a wavey wall, fiber go along the 8' direction.

I started painting 28 years ago. I sucked at mudding, and I hated it.
28 years later, and I'm pretty damn good at it now.
    Don't hate it no less.

Hi mike i watch a lot of your videos. As a plasterer in the uk, this is alien to me I cover all the plastererbo/drywall with something called multfinish plaster it gives the wall or ceiling a better more hard-wearing finish. But very informative 👍

I can tell you a trick that gives the mud a longer working time and makes sanding easier add a small amount of dawn dish soap to the water it helps soften the water

A few thoughts: I use a small ball-pein hammer to fix those spots where a screw missed the framing. Trust me, it's neater and leaves less damage. Make sure the screws are driven below the surface, but just barely. If you over-drive a screw and start to tear the paper, add another screw at least an inch away, because that first one has now lost its holding power.
I ran a renovation project, using volunteers, at our local community hall. The supposedly experienced drywall volunteer over-drove most of the screws, and I had to go in and add hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of screws next to them. I was NOT a happy guy when I saw that.

Great tips on one project that NO one likes doing! And, luckily, we don’t do drywall projects - just wood or cement mostly! Either way, you always make it fun and entertaining!
Hope you have a great New Year and that 2024 is a good year for you! We are fellow Michiganders out in rural farmland area down south or we would probably see you at HD!

Paper tape is pre creased for use in corners it’s always best to put the crease towards the wall when doing flats.

That stuff may work fine, but as a relatively inexperienced DIYer, I’m so tired of buying all these different types of mud. Everyone on RUclips recommends something different, and they’re all difficult for me! I’ll just use up what I have, and perhaps try this “One Pass” stuff sometime in the future. I’m rehabbing a trashed rental, and my goal is to find one, (or two at the most) drywall formulas that look okay, and not spend days on a frustrating repair.

Nice video. Good tips for booger elimination. How does this product do with damp sponge sanding? We used that method for smooth walls with gloss paint. Or dust sensitive areas. Your corner method is spot on for crisp lines. The hard part for me was waiting to do the other side. This product would eliminate that pain.

I still don't really understand why most of North America tapes and fills like this instead of a full skim of wet plaster (gypsum) as we do in the UK (although less and less on new builds).
I'm certainly no plasterer but I get acceptable results especially in newly boarded walls/ceilings.
You have to let it dry longer but in the long run it's less effort and (hopefully) less sanding!!

Mixing and cleaning as many times as you are here would give me brain damage. Only use 20 min mud on small repairs. For that much wall, I like to use one part premix topping to one part 90 min mud. It sands easy and goes on like butter.

I use a stainless-steel pan. With a hock, I dump a lot of mud on the floor. Think I'll stick to using mud, works good, less waste. But that's just me.
Painting is very satisfying when you do a good job.

Since this is a cement based product, I wonder if you could skim coat an area of drywall, and then tile over it.

Have you ever used FibaFuse Paperless Drywall Tape? A million times better than paper, hardly any pressure having to be used and never will create bubbles. Many times only 1 coat (if you did it right in the first place). It’s a day & night difference and less than $6 a roll.

Hey Mike, so question. You sanded the product. How do you keep sanding off of the wall? I would imagine there’s residue on the wall and if you try to paint over it that residues of the sanding, well, is this correct? Or is there a trick and tip?

I've done drywall for 40 years. Always wet tape! I decided to do your way (dry) I will never listen to you again concerning ANYTHING but concrete. Also, with "butt joints " you cut a "V" before the tape, makes NO SEAM. Any half assed drywaller never needs sanding.
Trowel IS NOT A GAME CHANGER, it's another STUPID IDEA from a concrete head.
