As an arsenal fan, I reckon everton and arsenal would have won an ucl back in the 80s and early 90s (especially us under george graham) if english clubs werent banned from the ucl, not a dig at you lot btw
@@pena1197yeah it’s unfortunate. A lot of English clubs would’ve tbf, as the late 70s and early 80s, Europe was being dominated by English clubs (Forest, LFC, Leeds, Everton, Villa etc).
Everton were a great team back then, full of top quality internationals. They'd surely have been favourites to win the 1986 European Cup if Heysel hadn't intervened.
UEFA should've had just banned the english supporters from attending the game. Not the club! I believe it's not a club & players fault. It's a fan fault! If English club still allowed to be participated in continental tournament after the Heysel tragedy, every of their home game stadium should be empty. I'd love to see an English team like Everton be allowed to compete in Europe even with the empty stadium
the golden era of Liverpool city, almost dominated European and domestic football, as a red i loved and really miss those good old days, what a team Everton had back then, great players and manager, I was very happy when you won the cup winners cup, hopefully something like those good old days come back and the city dominate football again. I am sure if it wasnt for the ban, both Liverpool and Everton would have couple more European cups
I'm a Wolves fan .. but my scouse workmate had a spare ticket, so I went to this match with them... had a great few days in Rotterdam... no hint of any trouble. That's the only non Wolves match that I've been to .... although I was a big fan of Andy Gray (who made a hell of an impact for you when he went from us to Goodison)
Ps. It was just a few days after the Bradford fire... I remember they had a minutes silence before the match... the Austrian fans were lighting fires and whistling, booing throughout the minute... I watched it back when I got home, the comms said the silence was observed by all.. they never mentioned the disgraceful behaviour of the Vienna fans

As has already been commented here, without Heysel, this great Everton team (and Gary Lineker in the place of Andy Gray) would surely have won the European Champions Cup in the spring of 1986.

This game finished at 10pm on Wednesday 15th May in Rotterdam and 65 hours later at 3pm on Saturday 18th May Everton had to play in the FA Cup final at Wembley...... That would never happen today it would be played on the Sunday.
Stop blaming the incompetence of your club on heysel.....Everton were in existence for a long time before heysel....did not amount to much....and a long time after heysel....and amounted to almost nothing.....sad pathetic club..
A more one-sided final you'll struggle to find. However, credit Rapid for hanging in there and making it a game until 4 mins from the end. Kinda wish it had been Celtic though cause Everton would have smashed them for five or six.
I think we would have had a far tougher match against another British side, particularly against one of the biggest clubs in Britain and with their support. Different proposition entirely!

We would have won the 86 European cup , I have no doubt! What a team we had in the 80s.
You can see why Everton were favourites for the 86 European title. What robbery!

Given the final line up and match, they would have had little to fear, especially as the Dark Side weren’t in it, who were the only real danger.
Id say we will at least reach the Semis maybe even win it. would have been nice to see.

Absolute shame this team never got the chance to play again in Europe.

Show the Everton team this...show what it would mean to us Blues to win something..get some pride and passion back ...that team was all about it....
They say the early press is a new thing pound for pound kendal best manager love the blues
If one man can bring back the glory day's for us, it's Don Carlo. It's well over due, COYB's.
Never realised that penalty hero Panenka played in this Vienna team!
Yeah I noticed that and was like wow. Must have been getting on by then. Obviously otherwise he wouldn't have been on the bench.
great to see the full game again
Wow . We played a high pressing game back then, in this season when we had NO equals. Maybe THIS team cud have done well in this era
What I would give for just half of that team now. 💙💙💙

It was the first absolute world class football (played by Everton) that I ever saw in my life
If it wasnt for the Heysel ban, this team would have been European Cup winners in the following season.
And we would of gone on to achieve much more, players would be queuing up to play for us, not like now were we can't get anyone on a loan💙💙💙

I've always preferred that '83-'91 version of the Everton crest.
1:01:01 1-0 (Andy Gray)
1:15:49 2-0 (Trevor Steven)
1:28:27 2-1 (Hans Krankl)
1:29:16 3-1 (Kevin Sheedy)
Long overdue that we start challenging again at the other end of the premier League.

At 2-0 Kendall should have taken off Sharp and Gray for the Saturday?
