Okay so… do you think this was paranormal or what?! I really want answers as to what could have triggered the alarm!!! HUGE thanks to my incredible friends for letting me stay in their beautiful home
Wouldn't like to say what that was but given that there was no fire or carbon monoxide I would have to say a fault in the alarm system or paranormal activity
Sometimes you can get dust/dirt in the smoke detectors and it sets them all off because they are all hard wired together. I live in AZ and this happens all the time. If you had windows open and fans on I’d almost guarantee this is what happened to you guys.
Paramedic here: hey, we don‘t care if someone has an emergency and is naked (except when you tell us, you were cleaning the bathroom naked and somehow fell and the toilet brush got stuck in your butt. Then we might smirk😂). We will feel empathy and get you blankets or help you to put on clothes. It is our job to help people in emergency situations and these happen no matter where you are, what you are doing and what you are wearing. Also we have seen so many people in different shapes and sizes naked, this normal and we literally don’t care. So don’t worry about us!
I’m glad you said that because my link worker or former link worker David Bagnall is his name he more or less when we were in space camp a few years ago and naturally you’re dealing with germ men or boys essentially and he will come in if we were changing and what not and this could be the morning time and it’s like he’s just so used to he doesn’t care he doesn’t make a big deal about it he just comes and says hello and just I love you I love him for it by the way I’m visually impaired and I use VoiceOver dictation so I apologise if this doesn’t sound consistent
As a type 1 diabetic my family has had to call the ambulance so many times from my sugar being low (hypoglycemia) and when they arrive I’m not thinking straight and burning up so I’m just chilling in my bra and underwear idgf and its nice to know you guys don’t either 🤣

As a hearing and sight impaired person, that's why when I'm home alone, I sleep down stairs with my dog beside me incase bad guys come. (I still haven't figured out what I'd actually DO if there ever were bad guys...my withering whit and Inter-personal Communications training (IPC) probably wouldn't fit the bill.)
I am Advance EMT and you are the first RUclipsr that I have ever watched that has thanked First Responders and Dispatchers for what they do. We work in the most thankless job. I always joke around saying that we like Gods. No one knows that we exist until someone needs us. I would also like to thank you Molly for showing me what it is like for a blind person in an emergency situation and understanding what it means to be blind.
I know I’m always so appreciative of medical personnel who have helped me and my family over the years in different situations. I’ve gone back and thanked nurses, but feel bad when I can’t as easily track down the EMT’s. Dispatchers are even harder. My cousin is a dispatcher, so I know it’s a tough job. Thank you for what you do!
As an epileptic, I’ve met so many kind paramedics who held my hand or carried me when I was too shakey to walk and kept me distracted and talked to me whilst I was coming out of it, it makes me sad that people who don’t need them forget to appreciate them
Ciara holder it’s not just Molly here it’s also myself I am a blind visually impaired person and I have Asperger’s which is a type of autism and just in a fire situation when the fire alarm is flickering I am overwhelmed by the situation because if I do not have a system of getting out of the building I’m screwed because the alarm is going to overwhelm me and it feels like there’s a electric rod or knife being stabbed into my head because that’s how loud the noise is for me and I don’t like loud noises because it’s just it’s like an explosion going off in my head I want to sensory overload and just I wanted to mention that because I’m not being mean by my comment but just I want you to know that and no disrespect to Malu but she’s not the only blind RUclipsr out there I am also blind RUclipsr and I got you a lot of stuff is well I just wanna put that out there
Hey. Your experience is valid, but just to offer another perspective, I was an EMT from 2000-2020 and I absolutely felt as though the citizens in my county (and other counties) appreciated and valued my work. It wasn’t even just the people on the calls I ran, if I went to a restaurant or a grocery store in uniform people would thank my crew for their service. I was married to a police officer, and if you want to see a thankless job, do that. He would literally risk his life recovering stolen hand guns or breaking up child trafficking rings, and rather than being thanked, people would want to hold him accountable for some idiot cop’s behavior halfway across the country.
I just started this week as a 911 dispatcher. I’m loving it so far. I can’t wait until I can answer phones and help someone through their struggles! You had every right to call them! I’m glad you’re okay though!

@J N in some religions people who commit sui*ide are not allowed to be buried in a cemetery (or a churchyard). Because they are considered to be sinners and to commit sui*ide is the biggest sin one could imagine. So you have a point, actually. @@cs5889 it's still his instinct to help Molly. That'll never change. Or she wouldn't still use him as a service dog, if she can't feel that he will help her when needed. She has to trust him with her life.
That was my thought too, though I expect guide dogs ate trained to help their handler evacuate in an emergency. My old collie do was terrified of smoke alarms to the point of freaking out as a half deaf elderly old boy when I was playing SIMS (quietly!) and the smoke alarm in the game went off.
Service dogs are trained to handle these things. My tiny chihuahua psychiatric service dog will at most just grumble and death glare at loud alarms, she’s almost bombproof. Thunderstorms are her weakness but I think it’s mostly from the loud water since she HATES water/getting wet unless she’s drinking it. Since Gallop is program trained and bred as opposed to owner trained, I would expect bombproof in terms of reactivity. He’s a good example of the quality of training from Mira for sure.
Sometimes a false alarm is just a false alarm! I think everything you did was completely understandable and relatable. I'm so glad it turned out to be nothing threatening!
Yes i think so too. We have like those 15 dollar smoke detectors, and once had one blaring in the middle of the night. And again, until in total 6 times . Totally unrelated to cooking or heat or anything... We once had an electrical fire so I was of course looking everywhere for a fire that wasn't there. Very scary! We threw the smoke detector out and got a replacement. They should have their system checked! Glad everything is fine! :D
@J N I did try to answer it, but maybe I can do better at explaining. Not every difficult thing you face is actually a test from God. I don't claim to know what God thinks, and I don't know why some people suffer a lot. If you read the book Job in the bible, you can learn a lot about it. When someone suffers it's important to stand by them, help them if you can, but don't blame them or God for the suffering.
When it is extremely hot fire alarms can go off especially if you are in a humid area. Some fire alarms even have heat sensors. They probably need to invest in a ac system or ceiling fans and a central fan system. **edit** Fire alarms can also go off from wildfires.
That’s what I was going to say! We’ve had smoke alarms go off in our house when we’ve opened up the house at night with fans to try and cool it off when it’s very humid out. It’s woken us up in the middle of the night. Kinda scary. Gives me flashbacks to living in the apartments at college where someone would set off the alarm by vaping or burning popcorn once or twice a week.
Was going to say the same thing. The shift between humid day time air and shifting to the cooler night air could have built up some condensation in the alarm system too. Specially as around 2am is when things actually start to cool down.
@@kendragramley6243 the alarm went off so much in our student accommodation, no one evacuated anymore. Whoever set it off had to pay the bill though. I don't know why they didn't just smoke outside 😅
Big windows are scary as hell. Modern horror films always have these massive homes with huge windows in the woods and the killers are always lurking amongst the trees peering in. I don't know how bougie people live like that. Glad you're all safe.
That is why I can't watch horror films! I have a big window I'm my bedroom. I do have curtains but my dear is that some random dude is gonna be outside my window

I’m a paramedic and my husband is a police deputy so I very much appreciate your support. We do what we do because we care about people and what to help. I’ve taken care of a few blind patients and I have always tired to tell them everything that’s happening and what I’m going to do. I don’t know how if feels but watching your RUclips has helped me understand maybe a glimpse of it. Also we have see so many people naked that it doesn’t phase us. I just help them get clothes or wrap them in a blanket. I always went to keep my patients modest if at all possible. I want them to feel safe with me. I’m so glad everything turned out to be ok for you but can only imagine how scary that was for you! Sending you extra love right now! 💙
I'm so glad it wasn't carbon monoxide (CO) ! When I was in high school I got migraines about 3-4 times a week that were so excruciating that I couldn't even open my eyes, so I had to go home sick a lot. I'd go home and go straight to my room on the second story and, sobbing in pain, go to sleep. This went on for months. One day my mom got nervous that she smelt rotten eggs. Carbon monoxide is odorless, but companies will add the rotten egg odor to make it noticeable. She called the fire department and they detected major levels of carbon monoxide in he house AND in our blood (they were able to do a test on the spot). So while I was having strange, frequent, unexplained migraines, I really had carbon monoxide poisoning. My room was on the top floor, where all heat rises to, directly above our furnace, so it had the highest CO levels. Where I would run to to seek relief was really making me more sick. The firemen said they'd never seen levels so high and someone survive it! Hearing you tell this story really gave me chills, I'm SO glad you and mama bee are safe!!!
I’ve been a volunteer firefighter/medic for 22 years now. Im a 4th generation from my family in my fire department. I love my job. Molly, you and your Mom totally did the right thing by calling 911. I’m glad you are both ok (and Gallop too)! You stayed as calm as you could and spoke to the dispatcher. Well done!
No this is true , about two years ago when I was living in the city, it was late evening and I was hearing yelling outside. Which , for our area was normal. I got kind of nosy so I look outside and there is a HUGE house fire across the street , so I was trying to call for my partner and all I could muster out was "uhh, UHHH, THERES A FIRE OUTSIDE" . that's coming from me, having had a house fire in 2010, not only me but my brother had one two years back as well. So we don't always react the right way
Dispatcher and ex firefighter here, usually they only have the sirens on to move traffic out of the way to get to the emergency so once they're close to the scene, especially in a rural area, they'd have the sirens turned off. And thank you for acknowledging us Molly! Super super appreciated 💖
Kitchens (in the UK at least) have a heat detector instead of a smoke detector, so it could've been all the heat and humid, sticky air circulated by the fans/coming in through the windows that triggered the alarm perhaps. But either way, I hope you are and will be better. It's scary, emergency situations. ❤️
We may not get to say it very often but we really appreciate it. Not saying there aren’t some people out there taking you for granted or misusing services but I think most people who have actually had to call really do. At least I do.
In a newer house like that, the fire alarms are hardwired throughout the whole house and not the small battery operated ones. It could have been a few different things that set it off....electrical surge, short in the wiring....even if it's really hot in the house it can be set off.
@@MollyBurkeOfficial I also had an alarm that would fully blare when the batteries died. Even though it wasn't supposed to. My boyfriends alarm went off for three hours because the day got hot and humid. It needed to be disabled to make it stop. We duct taped the stupid thing after verifying it wasn't CO and walked around with hearing protection until someone could come disable it.
Once a spider got in the smoke alarm at 5 in the morning. Kept blaring then shutting off. It did it like 3 times and it was very jarring and annoying because we were all trying to sleep!
we had a house a couple years ago that when the battery was low in one of the fire alarms every single alarm went off. For 2 weeks at 2:30 in the morning, every smoke alarm in the house went off because the smoke alarm in the basement needed a new battery.... unfortunately it took 2 weeks to figure out that all the alarms were somehow connected....
Your fire alarm is like mine. It’s hardwire and battery operated. The homebuilder told me to look for the one with a blinking red light. All the other ones had a steady green light on. Of course the one with the blinking red light was in my bedroom downstairs. I never noticed it and green or red lights until I really looked at it. 🥴
I'm wheelchair-bound and am about to get back into PT because I can't even transfer myself in and out of my chair by myself at all. One of my biggest fears is being in a situation where I'm in bed (on the other end of the house) and there's a fire, killer, etc and my Papa, whom I live with, can't get to me in time. We live way out in the country and when I had a tracheostomy in 2016, it malfunctioned (which we didn't know at the time,) I was legitimately dying, and the paramedics got there in the nick of time. I can emphasize with the feeling of vulnerability because you're way out in the middle of nowhere.
I don't know if you know this already, but it's possible your fire departement keeps a list of people with disabilities. In case of an emergency, they will have the information of your abilities and where to find you. I hope it can help.
I have lived in rural areas for ages now. Thankfully, we have always lived in towns with fire departments at least. But, as for police, no. You only have the county, not any village police.
That sounds so scary! Never feel bad for calling about something like that. I had a weird issue with my smoke alarm going off saying carbon monoxide warning and the fire department ended up coming to check it out. I was so embarrassed because it turned out to be a dying smoke alarm that was going crazy, but the guy said "if there's no problem then it makes our job a lot easier" and that made me feel better. There is no rule that you have to check everything out before you call, they're there to check for you in a potentially dangerous situation. Edit: just saw the end lf the video. I have a super basic smoke alarm and mine didn't so the "hey I'm dying" periodic beeps, it just went straight to carbon monoxide warning. My alarm doesn't use batteries, you have to get a new alarm.
Mine did this. 5am. Tripped off everyone in the house. The one in the basement was saying fire. The ine on the top floor was saying carbon monixide. The baement one was the one that needed to be replaced.
Oh man, I was in a rental where the carbonmonoxide detector went off and it was a real thing. So we vacated and they got it fixed and we were fine. A few months later we move into a different rental and i was alone and an alarm was going off like crazy so I was calling my landlord, husband, neighbor at night.... turns out it just needed new batteries but man that freaked me out.. you just never know
I have a friend whose entire family got carbon monoxide poisoning and its effected all of them mentally permanently...don't f around with CO, its better to call in a false alarm than to not report a real case

once in high school, the maintenance crew were deep cleaning before the end of the year, and the fire alarms kept going off all day long bc the dust they kicked up kept setting off the sensors in the alarms, making it think it was smoke. Could be that the owners of the house you're staying in just need to open up the smoke alarms and give them a good dusting.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm sure in the moment it would be different, but as I sit here I'm just like "I'd rather be dead than naked outside in an emergency" but I like to live dangerously. 😎

I feel you, Molly. I love true crime so much but I’m living by myself for the first time. I’m not disabled but I have super high anxiety so the littlest odd sound makes me hide in one room for hours. So needless to say, I have been avoiding anything crime related at least until I get more comfortable being by myself.

So, you guys having the windows open (with all this smoke in the air) could have triggered the fire alarm to go off! That's my theory. I've been through a house fire and I can totally empathize with the whole not making the right decisions in the moment thing. It's so scary! Sorry this happened to you, and I hope that you have a calm and restful week 💛
1) Glad you all are safe! 2) You are absolutely right, everyone reacts differently in emergency situations. 3) Not an emergency quite to this level, but I was once at my bestie's house making stir fry and egg rolls with her daughter(7) and my brother(10). All of the sudden our stir fry catches on fire. Bestie is a doctor and super smart, so she gets the baking soda to try and put the grease fire out. Weirdly, this only made it a bigger fire poof instead of helping us. Anyway, while she was doing that, I ran to the living room area to usher the children out through the front door. As I yelled, "FIRE!'' and what do these monkeys do? THEY FREAKING JUMP ON THE COUCH to have a look and in unison shout "COOL!" So I shoved them out the front door, bestie grabs oven mitts and tosses a big lid to cut the fire's oxygen supply, then takes the pot and shoves it out through the back door. Everything was ok, except for the partly melted microwave above the stove lol. Needless to say we had a fire safety talk and review with the newly outed pyros we discovered we are related to lol
The best way to put out a grease fire, is to turn off the heat source, covering the flames with a metal lid or cookie sheet, if it's small, put baking soda or salt, you could also use a class b dry fire extinguisher, and never extinguish it with water.
Naked sleeper here! Lol I usually have my robe near the bed for when I get up to use the bathroom at night, It's also handy for emergencies. When I have kids ill have to go back to sleeping with clothes on, but for now I'm just enjoying the freedom to choose haha
I used to be a completely naked sleeper, but ever since becoming a parent I now sleep in a t-shirt and underwear so I don't have to worry about main floor windows for those late night/early morning kitchen trips. I know exactly where my pants are and can grab them in half a second on the way out of the room if I had to!
Same! Although I have kids and that hasn't changed anything. My son will come to the room for a hug if he needs one, but he goes back to his room on his own, his choice. If I hear the kids need me to come to them I just put the robe on!
In the moment you told us about gallop running towards your side to comfort and protect you I personally really felt like his retirment plan is to soon scheduled. Gallop is so well trained and over the pandemic he might have lost some progress, but he can always recall his commands and things he has learned throughout the years.✨🦮 It's just a thought and reality might look different, but I am so proud of him being such a gentle dog with a loving soul and an educated mind💓🌺
Never feel bad for calling 911 if you are scared. What wastes resources is not scared people asking for help but people calling it on things they know aren’t emergencies
When something similar happened to me, the fire people did their checking then let us know it was probably a bug that crawled somewhere and got fried which was then too small to detect later or dust got stuck in the alarm. It being really hot out and you having fans may have picked up dust? So glad your okay now.
I had a similar experience! You mentioned it was a newer home, which leads me to believe their fire alarms are also new. I used to live in a home that was newly renovated with updated fire alarms, and the fire alarms would ALL go off (in every room because they were all synced together) if the air was too hot and thick. It happened quite a few times, even though they weren't "heat detectors", they were smoke detectors. Even my landlord had no idea why it happened. But it sounds like that's what might have happened with your situation as well. It is SCARY when it happens in the middle of the night, especially since I have twins who were just toddlers when we lived in that home. I'm sorry you had to go through such a traumatic experience! I'm wondering if the new smoke detectors in Canada had a faulty batch and that's why it happened, because it hasn't happened in our new house and we have the same smoke detectors here (and we've had some hot and humid days). Obviously it's not a definite answer, but its an idea on what happened!

Being a house on a lake, my first thought is maybe a bug of some type tripped the alarm. They have been known to set of fire alarms and other types of alarms in the past.
Molly I watched a couple of your videos, and I came to the conclusion that you are a wonderful person! When I see you having fun I also get a smile on my face. It’s such a bummer what has happend with the alarm and I can relate how stressful that must have been. Keep up being your positive self !
You two both did the best thing for yourselves. So glad you are ok. I once had smoke detector kept going off and eventually found a spider coming out and it never went off again. It could possibly be something like that.
I'm 56 and would have called 911 too! Such a weird situation. I read some of your comments and the extreme heat seems to be the most possible answer. I'm so glad that you had your mom and Gallop with you. It's more comforting to go through something like that when you have someone else there too. Then, when you get to the "processing stage", you know that you didn't dream it and can talk through the craziness. Glad you are all safe!

Hi, I wanted to thank you for this story, I'm a first responder and I'm used to dealing with people in need, but never realized how different it must feel and be for people who have a disabilitie, hopefully I'll be more empathic and I'll definitely take more time to talk with them about how they view, perceive and feel the situation, because I cannot pretend to understand but I can listen and be there.
An alarm started going off in the apartment next to us once but no one had lived there for years and they thought it may have been dust in the smoke detector. I'm assuming though that this home would not get ridiculously dusty for any reason so I'm not sure why the alarm tripped. Glad everyone is safe though!
fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors have a “life” usually around 7-12 years. They will go off when they’re expiring and dying. Could have been that.
Molly you definitely have a story to tell, it wouldn't surprise me that the fire alarm malfunctioned, I would have been uncomfortable as well, you wouldn't have been alone in your discomfort. Disabled or not that's an confusing situation to be in. Don't be afraid to call emergency services for a legitimate reason.
Oh wow! This was maybe not the best video for me to watch right now but I just love your story times. I'm still a bit shaken up over yesterdays adventure when we hit a pothole and our suspension broke, in the middle of nowhere. Luckily no-one got hurt and we got home safely.
Our apartment building fire alarm was going off kind of regularly in the morning and they just recently realized the guy leaf blowing in the parking garage was triggering it!
Molly's storytelling abilities are so freaking good. I'm one of those people who sees images when I read or hear a story, and I'm an empath, and I saw and felt all of that. So sorry this happened to you three. But I think this is a story you'll end up retelling down the road. Wild!
You can tell it was a very scary moment for Molly because she's taking longer to tell the story ad making sure to be clear and concise which is what your brain does when trying to recall scary moments that you don't want to forget details.

Ah yes, I do have a similar story to this! I love your story times! My miniature attempt at a story time :) When I was about 9 or so (2009ish) we were also staying at a family friends lake house! I live in New Zealand, this is in NZ. I was sharing a bunk bed with my now - late aunty from the UK in a room with two bunk beds, I was on the top on the left. I also have a disability, like Molly, except I'm deaf, not blind! I have cochlear implants and take them out at night and have for most of my life, since about 8y/o ish onwards. Around 3am there was an alarm that went off which woke up everyone in the house, but (and I'd have to check with my mother who may remember) I believe it was actually coming from the neighbour's house, not the one we were in. And that went on for a while, and I think it might've gone off again later too, but I didn't know any of this until the morning! Everyone else was quite tired and grumpy/annoyed but I was fine! xD So thanks for this story time Molly, it made me laugh, the minute you mentioned alarms going off in a lake house in the middle of the night, I IMMEDIATELY thought of my own story and had a laugh! :) x

I lost one of my cats in a house fire last year that happened while I was away at the doctor's and I bought the Nest alarms that announce everything and send alerts to phones. Best investment ever. Gives me so much peace of mind. Might be great for your new condo if you haven't looked at your options for that already.
My crazy crime-junkie brain definitely thought “what if someone tripped the alarms on purpose to try to get you to leave the house so they could steal stuff?” But people saying it was probably the intense heat and humidity definitely sound more rational and logical!
You did everything right & you have every right to call emergency services if alarms start going off! I’m with you, Molly, I feel much safer in city/suburbia! Lake houses are where horror movies happen!
I’ve had a spider crawl into an alarm and set it off continually until we found it in there. I’m sorry you had to deal with that. It definitely puts you on edge especially not knowing what’s causing it.
Question: Do you know if Gallop investigated the entire first floor while your mom and you were upstairs on the phone? I've had the smoke alarm go off while cooking and my Doberman quickly shifted to protection mode and ran through every room and ended at the front door sniffing and with his ears up focusing on sounds.
As someone who sleeps naked my hope is that it would shock an intruder long enough for me to hit them with something. In case of a fire I have a robe nearby just incase. I'm glad you guys are okay!
Absolutely true! If I heard 15 minutes as a wait time I would have panicked !!! I live in a very populated area, not a major city technically but the cops and firefighters get to my house in about 2 minutes flat! Maybe sooner! Great in a scary situation! Dust and bugs are very known to trip fire alarms. It’s kind of weird that they couldn’t find the fire alarms in the house, but i would bet on dust or a spider web!
I had a smoke detector that kept going off randomly. I took it down eventually and took it somewhat apart and a spider came out. I was honestly glad to find the answer and I never had problems again. First time I had heard about that happening.

I feel you. My first 1 am fire alarm Freshman year of college was wild. I'm sighted but the noise of the alarm tends to overwhelm me.
Wouldn't like to say what that was but given that there was no fire or carbon monoxide I would have to say a fault in the alarm system or paranormal activity
Sometimes you can get dust/dirt in the smoke detectors and it sets them all off because they are all hard wired together. I live in AZ and this happens all the time. If you had windows open and fans on I’d almost guarantee this is what happened to you guys.
Paramedic here: hey, we don‘t care if someone has an emergency and is naked (except when you tell us, you were cleaning the bathroom naked and somehow fell and the toilet brush got stuck in your butt. Then we might smirk😂). We will feel empathy and get you blankets or help you to put on clothes. It is our job to help people in emergency situations and these happen no matter where you are, what you are doing and what you are wearing. Also we have seen so many people in different shapes and sizes naked, this normal and we literally don’t care. So don’t worry about us!
I’m glad you said that because my link worker or former link worker David Bagnall is his name he more or less when we were in space camp a few years ago and naturally you’re dealing with germ men or boys essentially and he will come in if we were changing and what not and this could be the morning time and it’s like he’s just so used to he doesn’t care he doesn’t make a big deal about it he just comes and says hello and just I love you I love him for it by the way I’m visually impaired and I use VoiceOver dictation so I apologise if this doesn’t sound consistent
As a type 1 diabetic my family has had to call the ambulance so many times from my sugar being low (hypoglycemia) and when they arrive I’m not thinking straight and burning up so I’m just chilling in my bra and underwear idgf and its nice to know you guys don’t either 🤣

As a hearing and sight impaired person, that's why when I'm home alone, I sleep down stairs with my dog beside me incase bad guys come. I am Advance EMT and you are the first RUclipsr that I have ever watched that has thanked First Responders and Dispatchers for what they do. We work in the most thankless job. I always joke around saying that we like Gods. No one knows that we exist until someone needs us. I would also like to thank you Molly for showing me what it is like for a blind person in an emergency situation and understanding what it means to be blind.
I have generations of firefighters in Milwaukee in my family and my brother was an EMT; so it makes me sad when you do not feel loved.
I know I’m always so appreciative of medical personnel who have helped me and my family over the years in different situations. I’ve gone back and thanked nurses, but feel bad when I can’t as easily track down the EMT’s. Dispatchers are even harder. My cousin is a dispatcher, so I know it’s a tough job. Thank you for what you do!
As an epileptic, I’ve met so many kind paramedics who held my hand or carried me when I was too shakey to walk and kept me distracted and talked to me whilst I was coming out of it, it makes me sad that people who don’t need them forget to appreciate them
Ciara holder it’s not just Molly here it’s also myself I am a blind visually impaired person and I have Asperger’s which is a type of autism and just in a fire situation when the fire alarm is flickering I am overwhelmed by the situation because if I do not have a system of getting out of the building I’m screwed because the alarm is going to overwhelm me and it feels like there’s a electric rod or knife being stabbed into my head because that’s how loud the noise is for me and I don’t like loud noises because it’s just it’s like an explosion going off in my head I want to sensory overload and just I wanted to mention that because I’m not being mean by my comment but just I want you to know that and no disrespect to Malu but she’s not the only blind RUclipsr out there I am also blind RUclipsr and I got you a lot of stuff is well I just wanna put that out there
Hey. Your experience is valid, but just to offer another perspective, I was an EMT from 2000-2020 and I absolutely felt as though the citizens in my county (and other counties) appreciated and valued my work. It wasn’t even just the people on the calls I ran, if I went to a restaurant or a grocery store in uniform people would thank my crew for their service. I was married to a police officer, and if you want to see a thankless job, do that. He would literally risk his life recovering stolen hand guns or breaking up child trafficking rings, and rather than being thanked, people would want to hold him accountable for some idiot cop’s behavior halfway across the country.
I just started this week as a 911 dispatcher. I’m loving it so far. I can’t wait until I can answer phones and help someone through their struggles! You had every right to call them! I’m glad you’re okay though!

Because they are considered to be sinners and to commit sui*ide is the biggest sin one could imagine. So you have a point, actually. @@cs5889 it's still his instinct to help Molly. That'll never change. Or she wouldn't still use him as a service dog, if she can't feel that he will help her when needed. She has to trust him with her life.
That was my thought too, though I expect guide dogs ate trained to help their handler evacuate in an emergency. My old collie do was terrified of smoke alarms to the point of freaking out as a half deaf elderly old boy when I was playing SIMS (quietly!) and the smoke alarm in the game went off.
Service dogs are trained to handle these things. My tiny chihuahua psychiatric service dog will at most just grumble and death glare at loud alarms, she’s almost bombproof. Thunderstorms are her weakness but I think it’s mostly from the loud water since she HATES water/getting wet unless she’s drinking it. Since Gallop is program trained and bred as opposed to owner trained, I would expect bombproof in terms of reactivity. He’s a good example of the quality of training from Mira for sure.

Yes i think so too. We have like those 15 dollar smoke detectors, and once had one blaring in the middle of the night. And again, until in total 6 times . Totally unrelated to cooking or heat or anything... We once had an electrical fire so I was of course looking everywhere for a fire that wasn't there. Very scary! We threw the smoke detector out and got a replacement. They should have their system checked! Glad everything is fine! :D

@J N I believe that when God tests us he doesn't give us more than we can handle. We also come out stronger after going through something difficult.
@J N I did try to answer it, but maybe I can do better at explaining. Not every difficult thing you face is actually a test from God. I don't claim to know what God thinks, and I don't know why some people suffer a lot. If you read the book Job in the bible, you can learn a lot about it. When someone suffers it's important to stand by them, help them if you can, but don't blame them or God for the suffering.
When it is extremely hot fire alarms can go off especially if you are in a humid area. Some fire alarms even have heat sensors. They probably need to invest in a ac system or ceiling fans and a central fan system.
**edit** Fire alarms can also go off from wildfires.
That’s what I was going to say! We’ve had smoke alarms go off in our house when we’ve opened up the house at night with fans to try and cool it off when it’s very humid out. It’s woken us up in the middle of the night. Kinda scary. Gives me flashbacks to living in the apartments at college where someone would set off the alarm by vaping or burning popcorn once or twice a week.

Big windows are scary as hell. Modern horror films always have these massive homes with huge windows in the woods and the killers are always lurking amongst the trees peering in. I don't know how bougie people live like that. Glad you're all safe.

That is why I can't watch horror films! I have a big window I'm my bedroom. I do have curtains but my dear is that some random dude is gonna be outside my window

I’m a paramedic and my husband is a police deputy so I very much appreciate your support. We do what we do because we care about people and what to help.
I’ve taken care of a few blind patients and I have always tired to tell them everything that’s happening and what I’m going to do. I don’t know how if feels but watching your RUclips has helped me understand maybe a glimpse of it.
Also we have see so many people naked that it doesn’t phase us. I just help them get clothes or wrap them in a blanket. I always went to keep my patients modest if at all possible. I want them to feel safe with me.

I'm so glad it wasn't carbon monoxide (CO) ! When I was in high school I got migraines about 3-4 times a week that were so excruciating that I couldn't even open my eyes, so I had to go home sick a lot. I'd go home and go straight to my room on the second story and, sobbing in pain, go to sleep. This went on for months. One day my mom got nervous that she smelt rotten eggs. Carbon monoxide is odorless, but companies will add the rotten egg odor to make it noticeable. She called the fire department and they detected major levels of carbon monoxide in he house AND in our blood (they were able to do a test on the spot). So while I was having strange, frequent, unexplained migraines, I really had carbon monoxide poisoning. My room was on the top floor, where all heat rises to, directly above our furnace, so it had the highest CO levels. Where I would run to to seek relief was really making me more sick. The firemen said they'd never seen levels so high and someone survive it!
Hearing you tell this story really gave me chills, I'm SO glad you and mama bee are safe!!!

Molly, you and your Mom totally did the right thing by calling 911. I’m glad you are both ok (and Gallop too)! You stayed as calm as you could and spoke to the dispatcher. Well done!
It's easy to say what someone "should" do in a situation, but you never know how you'll react until it actually happens.

No this is true , about two years ago when I was living in the city, it was late evening and I was hearing yelling outside. Which , for our area was normal. I got kind of nosy so I look outside and there is a HUGE house fire across the street , so I was trying to call for my partner and all I could muster out was "uhh, UHHH, THERES A FIRE OUTSIDE" . that's coming from me, having had a house fire in 2010, not only me but my brother had one two years back as well. So we don't always react the right way
Dispatcher and ex firefighter here, usually they only have the sirens on to move traffic out of the way to get to the emergency so once they're close to the scene, especially in a rural area, they'd have the sirens turned off.

Kitchens (in the UK at least) have a heat detector instead of a smoke detector, so it could've been all the heat and humid, sticky air circulated by the fans/coming in through the windows that triggered the alarm perhaps. But either way, I hope you are and will be better. It's scary, emergency situations. ❤️

We may not get to say it very often but we really appreciate it. Not saying there aren’t some people out there taking you for granted or misusing services but I think most people who have actually had to call really do. At least I do.
In a newer house like that, the fire alarms are hardwired throughout the whole house and not the small battery operated ones. It could have been a few different things that set it off....electrical surge, short in the wiring....even if it's really hot in the house it can be set off.
If the sensor has dirt or dust on it, then that could cause the alarm to go off. But a ghost sounds cooler.
AHAHA well lets all agree to go with the ghost storyline for this one... lol

@@MollyBurkeOfficial I also had an alarm that would fully blare when the batteries died. Even though it wasn't supposed to. My boyfriends alarm went off for three hours because the day got hot and humid. It needed to be disabled to make it stop. We duct taped the stupid thing after verifying it wasn't CO and walked around with hearing protection until someone could come disable it.

Once a spider got in the smoke alarm at 5 in the morning. Kept blaring then shutting off. It did it like 3 times and it was very jarring and annoying because we were all trying to sleep!
we had a house a couple years ago that when the battery was low in one of the fire alarms every single alarm went off. For 2 weeks at 2:30 in the morning, every smoke alarm in the house went off because the smoke alarm in the basement needed a new battery.... unfortunately it took 2 weeks to figure out that all the alarms were somehow connected....

change all the batteries in smoke detectors every 6 months. I change them when we spring ahead or fall back.

Your fire alarm is like mine. It’s hardwire and battery operated. The homebuilder told me to look for the one with a blinking red light. All the other ones had a steady green light on. Of course the one with the blinking red light was in my bedroom downstairs. I never noticed it and green or red lights until I really looked at it. 🥴
Same. I was renting a house where the fire alarms did the same thing. Had to change every alarm battery before it would stop
I'm wheelchair-bound and am about to get back into PT because I can't even transfer myself in and out of my chair by myself at all. One of my biggest fears is being in a situation where I'm in bed (on the other end of the house) and there's a fire, killer, etc and my Papa, whom I live with, can't get to me in time.
We live way out in the country and when I had a tracheostomy in 2016, it malfunctioned (which we didn't know at the time,) I was legitimately dying, and the paramedics got there in the nick of time. I can emphasize with the feeling of vulnerability because you're way out in the middle of nowhere.

I don't know if you know this already, but it's possible your fire departement keeps a list of people with disabilities. In case of an emergency, they will have the information of your abilities and where to find you. I hope it can help.

I have lived in rural areas for ages now. Thankfully, we have always lived in towns with fire departments at least. But, as for police, no. You only have the county, not any village police.

That sounds so scary! Never feel bad for calling about something like that. I had a weird issue with my smoke alarm going off saying carbon monoxide warning and the fire department ended up coming to check it out. I was so embarrassed because it turned out to be a dying smoke alarm that was going crazy, but the guy said "if there's no problem then it makes our job a lot easier" and that made me feel better. There is no rule that you have to check everything out before you call, they're there to check for you in a potentially dangerous situation.
Edit: just saw the end lf the video. I have a super basic smoke alarm and mine didn't so the "hey I'm dying" periodic beeps, it just went straight to carbon monoxide warning. My alarm doesn't use batteries, you have to get a new alarm.
Smoke detectors have a "shelf life". Their sensors wear out. They need to be replaced every 10 years.
Mine did this. 5am. Tripped off everyone in the house. The one in the basement was saying fire. The ine on the top floor was saying carbon monixide. The baement one was the one that needed to be replaced.
Oh man, I was in a rental where the carbonmonoxide detector went off and it was a real thing. So we vacated and they got it fixed and we were fine. A few months later we move into a different rental and i was alone and an alarm was going off like crazy so I was calling my landlord, husband, neighbor at night.... turns out it just needed new batteries but man that freaked me out.. you just never know
I have a friend whose entire family got carbon monoxide poisoning and its effected all of them mentally permanently...don't f around with CO, its better to call in a false alarm than to not report a real case

once in high school, the maintenance crew were deep cleaning before the end of the year, and the fire alarms kept going off all day long bc the dust they kicked up kept setting off the sensors in the alarms, making it think it was smoke. Could be that the owners of the house you're staying in just need to open up the smoke alarms and give them a good dusting.
In an emergency situation I'd rather be naked outside than dead and since emergencies aren't common I'd rather be comfortable most nights

I feel you, Molly. I love true crime so much but I’m living by myself for the first time. I’m not disabled but I have super high anxiety so the littlest odd sound makes me hide in one room for hours. So needless to say, I have been avoiding anything crime related at least until I get more comfortable being by myself.

2) You are absolutely right, everyone reacts differently in emergency situations.
3) Not an emergency quite to this level, but I was once at my bestie's house making stir fry and egg rolls with her daughter(7) and my brother(10). All of the sudden our stir fry catches on fire. Bestie is a doctor and super smart, so she gets the baking soda to try and put the grease fire out. Weirdly, this only made it a bigger fire poof instead of helping us. Anyway, while she was doing that, I ran to the living room area to usher the children out through the front door. As I yelled, "FIRE!'' and what do these monkeys do? THEY FREAKING JUMP ON THE COUCH to have a look and in unison shout "COOL!" So I shoved them out the front door, bestie grabs oven mitts and tosses a big lid to cut the fire's oxygen supply, then takes the pot and shoves it out through the back door. Everything was ok, except for the partly melted microwave above the stove lol.
Needless to say we had a fire safety talk and review with the newly outed pyros we discovered we are related to lol
Grease fires are weird, you got to have the right stuff to put it out, don’t use water tho for grease haha
The baking soda probably was too fine and so it caught fire instead. I always use salt to smother grease fires
The best way to put out a grease fire, is to turn off the heat source, covering the flames with a metal lid or cookie sheet, if it's small, put baking soda or salt, you could also use a class b dry fire extinguisher, and never extinguish it with water.

I usually have my robe near the bed for when I get up to use the bathroom at night, It's also handy for emergencies.
When I have kids ill have to go back to sleeping with clothes on, but for now I'm just enjoying the freedom to choose haha
my parents slept in their undies, and would somehow always be in a robe or proper clothing when I woke up in the morning and when I went to sleep lol
I used to be a completely naked sleeper, but ever since becoming a parent I now sleep in a t-shirt and underwear so I don't have to worry about main floor windows for those late night/early morning kitchen trips. I know exactly where my pants are and can grab them in half a second on the way out of the room if I had to!
Same! Although I have kids and that hasn't changed anything. My son will come to the room for a hug if he needs one, but he goes back to his room on his own, his choice. If I hear the kids need me to come to them I just put the robe on!

Gallop is so well trained and over the pandemic he might have lost some progress, but he can always recall his commands and things he has learned throughout the years.✨🦮 It's just a thought and reality might look different, but I am so proud of him being such a gentle dog with a loving soul and an educated mind💓🌺
Never feel bad for calling 911 if you are scared. What wastes resources is not scared people asking for help but people calling it on things they know aren’t emergencies

When something similar happened to me, the fire people did their checking then let us know it was probably a bug that crawled somewhere and got fried which was then too small to detect later or dust got stuck in the alarm. It being really hot out and you having fans may have picked up dust? So glad your okay now.

You mentioned it was a newer home, which leads me to believe their fire alarms are also new. I used to live in a home that was newly renovated with updated fire alarms, and the fire alarms would ALL go off (in every room because they were all synced together) if the air was too hot and thick. It happened quite a few times, even though they weren't "heat detectors", they were smoke detectors. Even my landlord had no idea why it happened. But it sounds like that's what might have happened with your situation as well. It is SCARY when it happens in the middle of the night, especially since I have twins who were just toddlers when we lived in that home.

I'm wondering if the new smoke detectors in Canada had a faulty batch and that's why it happened, because it hasn't happened in our new house and we have the same smoke detectors here (and we've had some hot and humid days).
Obviously it's not a definite answer, but its an idea on what happened!

Being a house on a lake, my first thought is maybe a bug of some type tripped the alarm. They have been known to set of fire alarms and other types of alarms in the past.
Molly I watched a couple of your videos, and I came to the conclusion that you are a wonderful person! When I see you having fun I also get a smile on my face. It’s such a bummer what has happend with the alarm and I can relate how stressful that must have been. Keep up being your positive self !
You two both did the best thing for yourselves. So glad you are ok. I once had smoke detector kept going off and eventually found a spider coming out and it never went off again. It could possibly be something like that.
I'm 56 and would have called 911 too! Such a weird situation. I read some of your comments and the extreme heat seems to be the most possible answer. I'm so glad that you had your mom and Gallop with you. It's more comforting to go through something like that when you have someone else there too. Then, when you get to the "processing stage", you know that you didn't dream it and can talk through the craziness. Glad you are all safe!

Hi, I wanted to thank you for this story, I'm a first responder and I'm used to dealing with people in need, but never realized how different it must feel and be for people who have a disabilitie, hopefully I'll be more empathic and I'll definitely take more time to talk with them about how they view, perceive and feel the situation, because I cannot pretend to understand but I can listen and be there.
An alarm started going off in the apartment next to us once but no one had lived there for years and they thought it may have been dust in the smoke detector. I'm assuming though that this home would not get ridiculously dusty for any reason so I'm not sure why the alarm tripped. Glad everyone is safe though!

fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors have a “life” usually around 7-12 years. They will go off when they’re expiring and dying. Could have been that.

Molly you definitely have a story to tell, it wouldn't surprise me that the fire alarm malfunctioned, I would have been uncomfortable as well, you wouldn't have been alone in your discomfort. Disabled or not that's an confusing situation to be in. Don't be afraid to call emergency services for a legitimate reason.
Oh wow! This was maybe not the best video for me to watch right now but I just love your story times. I'm still a bit shaken up over yesterdays adventure when we hit a pothole and our suspension broke, in the middle of nowhere. Luckily no-one got hurt and we got home safely.
Our apartment building fire alarm was going off kind of regularly in the morning and they just recently realized the guy leaf blowing in the parking garage was triggering it!

My miniature attempt at a story time :)
When I was about 9 or so (2009ish) we were also staying at a family friends lake house! I live in New Zealand, this is in NZ. I was sharing a bunk bed with my now - late aunty from the UK in a room with two bunk beds, I was on the top on the left.
I also have a disability, like Molly, except I'm deaf, not blind! I have cochlear implants and take them out at night and have for most of my life, since about 8y/o ish onwards. Around 3am there was an alarm that went off which woke up everyone in the house, but (and I'd have to check with my mother who may remember) I believe it was actually coming from the neighbour's house, not the one we were in.
And that went on for a while, and I think it might've gone off again later too, but I didn't know any of this until the morning! Everyone else was quite tired and grumpy/annoyed but I was fine! xD
So thanks for this story time Molly, it made me laugh, the minute you mentioned alarms going off in a lake house in the middle of the night, I IMMEDIATELY thought of my own story and had a laugh! :) x

I lost one of my cats in a house fire last year that happened while I was away at the doctor's and I bought the Nest alarms that announce everything and send alerts to phones. Best investment ever. Gives me so much peace of mind. Might be great for your new condo if you haven't looked at your options for that already.

My crazy crime-junkie brain definitely thought “what if someone tripped the alarms on purpose to try to get you to leave the house so they could steal stuff?” But people saying it was probably the intense heat and humidity definitely sound more rational and logical!

I’ve had a spider crawl into an alarm and set it off continually until we found it in there. I’m sorry you had to deal with that. It definitely puts you on edge especially not knowing what’s causing it.

I've had the smoke alarm go off while cooking and my Doberman quickly shifted to protection mode and ran through every room and ended at the front door sniffing and with his ears up focusing on sounds.

Absolutely true! If I heard 15 minutes as a wait time I would have panicked !!! I live in a very populated area, not a major city technically but the cops and firefighters get to my house in about 2 minutes flat! Maybe sooner! Great in a scary situation! Dust and bugs are very known to trip fire alarms. It’s kind of weird that they couldn’t find the fire alarms in the house, but i would bet on dust or a spider web!
I had a smoke detector that kept going off randomly. I took it down eventually and took it somewhat apart and a spider came out. I was honestly glad to find the answer and I never had problems again. First time I had heard about that happening.
