I'm trying to do the same setup with an AVX Seinheiser system going into a Sony 7R3. I'm trying to have two lav mics set up at the same time. Using this flitter will that work with this system?
Thank you. I was searching how to interview 2 people with the Rodelink system. You helped me by posting this video. I almost purchased the Saramonic system. So glad I saw this video. Thanks
This is exactly the video I was looking for. Just bought a ride link yesterday and needed a second unit but wasn't sure how to use both and feed into the camera at the same time. Thanks for this!
I just got that rode lav mic, comes in the mail tomorrow. Haven't tested it out for myself. But this setup looks perfect for my needs. If the sound is this good I won't need my mixer anymore. Which really weighs down my camera. Less is more.
Zoom H4, H5 or H6 is the most affordable, flexible & portable Sound Recording Devices you can buy. From 2-6 XLR inputs (or Mic Adapters) with all the control you would ever need. I doblike this Rode-link setup for compact and quick 2chan interviews though. Thanks for the video!
When recording directly to the camera, was an audio adaptor considered, such as a BeechTex audio adapter? Allows for gain for each mic to be set separately and camera gain to be set low.
Tom - consider wearing layers (undershirt sucvh as a white t-shirt or crew, i.e. "wife -beater"). Let your talents knows this as well when planning interview sessions. Also, if you don't mind syncing audio in post.... a cheaper (1/2 the $price) and just as good (or better sounding) audio option than the Rode FM Set (which I tried and was not at all impressed with the sound quality or range)....is the new Tascam DR-10L sets @ $200 ea. These are basically a micro sized audio recorder in the Tascam quality, and come with a Senn. ME2 style mic (may be an actual ME2, not sure if it modified or not). These will record up to 4 hours of 48KHz, 24bit, WAV audio WITH A BACKUP CHANNEL (lower db) on a 4 GB micro SD card. A really GOOD DEAL at $199. When monitoring with headphones, the audio/preamps sound a little noisy or digital - but I was surprised at how clean the track is when listening back on the computer. I was also able to use my Countryman E6 headset mic with this recorder, it powered fine (allbeit it will cut out if not particular about the input jack - try not to move it around much or not at all). B&H Link here: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1281085-REG/tascam_dr_10l_mini_portable_recorder.html
I've found the Rode Tape and the sticky thing not to work at all. It keeps falling off! You need a long toipe tape over it and you need to glue to skin and the shirt to prevent rustle noises. Thanks for the demos!
Thanks so much for doing this video. I'm looking for a cheap way to add a second lav mic to people I talk with on my arcade tours on my channel. This small adapter may be the best thing until I can save up for wireless mics.
I wish I could run the Rode Link directly into my camera as well, but my camera has a very bad sound meter without any numbers on it (NEX VG20) so I can't trust that it isn't clipping. So I have to run it into my Tascam DR60D where I can monitor it, and then into my camera. And then I still have to record it on the Tascam DR60D, because the audio may still be clipping in the camera. If it doesn't clip in camera, then it's great, I can just use the audio from the camera. But if it does clip, ill have to sync it manually from the Tascam recording.
How do you stop each microphone from picking up both voices? I did an interview with two mics and about 7 feet between us and I can hear an echo when I merge the two tracks. I'm using Plural Eyes to sync the audio so I know thats accurate.
Great review! Just been considering what kind of wireless microphone to get for my videos, since until now I've been using a smartlav+ on a zoom recorder, and edited the sound later, but the more I am taking new videos it's better to have my sound right on the video!
Ilko Allexandroff Get Plural Eyes from Red Giant if you haven't gotten it already. Takes less than 30 seconds to sync all my sound with my footage with this plugin.
So - if using this for live video/webinar (without using any software for mixing audio channels) you will hear one speaker from the left and the other from the right?
Ok this is brilliant and you just merged the sound ... and I am not sure how you did that (you mention Premier)? Can I do that (merge the sound) in iMovie? I am a novice at editing and only have imovie at this time.
I use to shoot with my t2i with magic lantern that disabled auto gain control for audio. I now shoot with the gh4. Does the the auto gain control disabled with this camera?
Hi. I just bought a Rodelink Filmmaker Kit and looks exactly the same as what you have just reviewed. However, I am wondering if your Lavalier Mic's 3.5mm TRS Locking Jack Socket can actually be securely screwed (threaded) on to your TX Body Pack (Transmission Device) since you did not show it on your video. Good video content by the way :) Would appreciate if you can reply with an answer : Cheers!
Can i use sennheiser g3 and Rodelink at the same time with saramonic SR-AX100? One talent will use rodelink other one will use g3. Can it be any frequency interference problem between them?
how do you deal with cross chatter? I'm using 2 lav mics but the final recording is full of echo as the lav mics are picking up slight sound from the other speaker? So my lav mic will pick up the person next to me slightly and will come out as an echo underneath my own lav mic track.
Hi Tom, I plugged my senheiser G3 wireless system receiver cable onto the microphone input of my GH5 camera and recorded my voice through the transmitter's ME2 microphone but the sound is really low and bad even though I increased the audio level any recommendations please? Many thanks.
Is it normally done like this having you each on separate left and right channels? I feel like it is weird to listen to when one of you is on left and one is on right. Is there a way to record 2 people and both have left and right from a dslr?
Will this also work if it is plugged into a Zoom H6 Recorder instead of the camera? Like I put a Lav mic on two persons, both Lav mic goes to the Y splitter, which in turn goes to a Sennheiser EW112 transmitter, and then the receiver goes into the Zoom H6. Will this work? (using only one set of Sennheiser EW112?)
Hi, Congrats! very nice video, I have a question for you , I Have a camcorder Pansonic HC-V770 do you think a can use rodelink wireless filmmaker for my VideoCamera? should i do some setup in videocamera? Thank You so much and keep going
Hi Tom and Paul, This is a great system. Thanks for the instructions. Is that wire on the wireless mic, the antenna? Secondly, are Rhodes wireless mics compatible with Sennheiser receivers? I look forward to your response.
Melissa Frydlo the wire is actually the audio connection that plugs into the camera. Antenna is hidden inside since this uses digital 2.4ghz frequency. This is completely different from senhiser which uses analog system. Audio is comparable. In my opinion just as good. I actually compared these two side by side in this video ruclips.net/video/m-wPjAy7Lxc/видео.html
Awesome video but I have a question, when you edit the audio/video,do you get one audio file with both voices mixed the way you adjusted it on the camera or two audio files? Thank you.
Really helpful review thanks guys. Just one question, does the audio from the rode link system record as its own audio file or does it merge as the audio with the video file? Hopefully that made sense, would be interested to know!
Quick question: my wireless Lav mic has a lot of hiss (just by being turned on, without there even being any rustling or wind). Any recommendations for how to reduce/eliminate that constant background hiss? Thanks!
:-) No problem. Also if you have other microphones with own level gain, then it's a typical procedure to lower the internal camera preamps and go up with the level gain on the microphone (for example the rode videomic's have +12db).
very nice, thanks ! Q: if you mix and match wireless Lavs going into the Y-adapter? any issues? I have one Sennheiser now, not wanting to spend as much on a 2nd...
Before you read this please please take this comment as a professional viewer and another filmmaker speaking to another filmmaker. I appreciate your review about this product but it makes no sense when you yourself is doing a review on a Microphone and especially a lavalier mic and watching your production not recording at all any type of microphone but using the on board mic on your camera. Picking up all that disgusting ambient noise. Guys guys!!!! it only takes your video from a garage quality video to a professional looking video when you properly record your interviews, or speaking in front of the camera with a proper recorded video. It blows me away that you guys are doing a review about a microphone but you yourself is not using and not recording on a lav or shotgun. Again this doesn't make sense on a team that wants to talk about a product but yet your recording is not at a level to be considered semi pro. This is pretty embarrassing guys.
A little update! There is now even better device from Saramonic that allows individual level control for $50. You can get it here: bhpho.to/2AF1neb
Tom Antos hi,can I use an external battery with Panasonic GH4
Yes, this saved me! Thanks, Tom 👍😊.
I'm trying to do the same setup with an AVX Seinheiser system going into a Sony 7R3. I'm trying to have two lav mics set up at the same time. Using this flitter will that work with this system?
Use the Beachtek Mcc-2.
I use with either my two Seinheiser wireless or one wireless and video mic pro shotgun mic OR a line in.
Works amazingly well.
Thank you. I was searching how to interview 2 people with the Rodelink system. You helped me by posting this video. I almost purchased the Saramonic system. So glad I saw this video. Thanks
What i tend to do that is similar to this is to, separate the audio channels in post and make both mono and level it out from there.
This is exactly the video I was looking for. Just bought a ride link yesterday and needed a second unit but wasn't sure how to use both and feed into the camera at the same time. Thanks for this!
if you get the $50 saramonic device you can plug in two microphones into your gh4 and you have 2 knobs to adjust the channels seperate.
Thank you for the tip!

@PeglegMedia would you mind telling me which model exactly? cheers
PeglegMedia which device
Thanks Tom, great to see the pros setting up audio.
I just got that rode lav mic, comes in the mail tomorrow. Haven't tested it out for myself. But this setup looks perfect for my needs. If the sound is this good I won't need my mixer anymore. Which really weighs down my camera. Less is more.
What mixer have you been using?
I'm interested in mobile mixer options.
Saramonic SR-AX104 2 Channel XLR Audio Adapter with Phantom Power & Monitor (Red / Black)
Cool. Looks simple and affordable for the task. Feel it's been good other than possibly unneeded weight in your kit?
Oh yes, my sounds quality is better. And it give me way more range of audio options that simply isn't available on a dslr.
Definitely a helpful set up. I have a big project with a realty company and this saves a lot of time and energy with post editing. Thanks!
When recording directly to the camera, was an audio adaptor considered, such as a BeechTex audio adapter? Allows for gain for each mic to be set separately and camera gain to be set low.

It's gone 3am here, and that Dog barking song was way too funny haha
I've found the Rode Tape and the sticky thing not to work at all. It keeps falling off! You need a long toipe tape over it and you need to glue to skin and the shirt to prevent rustle noises. Thanks for the demos!
It did sound weird before you merged the two, and I thought it wasn't going to work. But after the merge it sounds great.
Great Video! I was wondering if there was an easy way to use two Rodelinks simultaneously. Thanks for making this.
This reminds me of the "You would like my peanuts" scene with the creepy French guy from the Cannon Ball Run movie.
Thanks so much for doing this video. I'm looking for a cheap way to add a second lav mic to people I talk with on my arcade tours on my channel. This small adapter may be the best thing until I can save up for wireless mics.
I´d say the gaffer tape style worked out better.
Didn´t pick up as much noise from the chest hair.
Fantastic set up and detailed explanation. Thanks.
I wish I could run the Rode Link directly into my camera as well, but my camera has a very bad sound meter without any numbers on it (NEX VG20) so I can't trust that it isn't clipping.

Hi! Is it possible to connect into one rodelink two lavaliere mics using a splitter ? Many thanks for reply!
Great idea man I'm about to try this with my Sony UWM 1 mics with a splitter on my T3i.
Let's see how this goes ;)
can I know how it went?
How do you stop each microphone from picking up both voices? I did an interview with two mics and about 7 feet between us and I can hear an echo when I merge the two tracks. I'm using Plural Eyes to sync the audio so I know thats accurate.
Hi did you find a solution to the echo issue? I'd be forever thankful for a solution!
Both mics are going into the same jack on the camera so there isn't two channels there wld be no way to mute one person or raise or lower each person.
My labs bleed onto each their and cause an terrible echo... how do you prevent that?
Great review! Just been considering what kind of wireless microphone to get for my videos, since until now I've been using a smartlav+ on a zoom recorder, and edited the sound later, but the more I am taking new videos it's better to have my sound right on the video!

Is it possible to get two audio chanels omn the Gh4? Guess the GH4 does not have more than one chanel, or?
I use to shoot with my t2i with magic lantern that disabled auto gain control for audio. I now shoot with the gh4. Does the the auto gain control disabled with this camera?
where did u connect ur lavalier mic i dont u have two receiver but where u connect the lav mic from ur lapel thanks
“Paul right now is in the right channel. I am in the left channel.”
Oh you don’t say! 😂
Hey God bless how do you transform both audio into mono in final cut x thank you or premier

I didnt know u still have a GH4. Nice
Yup I use it all the time. It's my most trusted camera.
I just purchased the Rode Wireless GO. Is this one you are reviewing better?
Hi Tom, I plugged my senheiser G3 wireless system receiver cable onto the microphone input of my GH5 camera and recorded my voice through the transmitter's ME2 microphone but the sound is really low and bad even though I increased the audio level any recommendations please? Many thanks.

that audio guy looks like a Braun Strowman. Nice setup.
i would merge 60:40 not 50:50, to reatin slight left:right separation of persons.
How do you do that mister
Great guys, thank you. We're nearing singularity ;)
Hi Tom and Paul, This is a great system. Thanks for the instructions. Is that wire on the wireless mic, the antenna? Secondly, are Rhodes wireless mics compatible with Sennheiser receivers? I look forward to your response.

is there any special setup for the Rodelink filmmaker kit on the GH4? am having some problems using it...
Thank you, that was really useful.
Awesome video but I have a question, when you edit the audio/video,do you get one audio file with both voices mixed the way you adjusted it on the camera or two audio files? Thank you.
best part at 10:00 min, :-)))) many thanks for all your videos. best, Sebastian
can you connect about 5 wireless lav mics to a dslr?
Hello Guys!
Can you help me how can I merge the two audio channels?
Really helpful review thanks guys. Just one question, does the audio from the rode link system record as its own audio file or does it merge as the audio with the video file? Hopefully that made sense, would be interested to know!
Hey Guys! Great video--exactly what I was looking for--when you set up the two lavs, do they have to be on separate channels? Thanks!
Can you use 2 transmitters to 1 receiver, or put a.splitter into the transmitter to 1 receiver?
If it's rode or Sennheiser, they each have to have their own receiver. You could use a splitter if wanted to at that point.
Te'Shawn Crenshaw thanks. I have a saramonic with 1 transmitter and 1 receiver. So maybe a splitter into the transmitter?
@@SeanDIY you got options, a splitter or audio recorder or mixer. Both you'll want to test the sound levels and adjust.
Hi Antos, what do you recommend me to transmit wireless video?
Economic I mean...
Hi Tom,is the audio much better from the cheaper Saramonic SR-WM4C Dual Wireless Mic?.Any thoughts?
Super great help....thanks!
Good stuff!
Thanks Tom
Great info I will buy 2 rodes
Quick question: my wireless Lav mic has a lot of hiss (just by being turned on, without there even being any rustling or wind). Any recommendations for how to reduce/eliminate that constant background hiss? Thanks!
Maybe the internal gain level of your camera is set too high. try to lower it.
Ah, great idea. Thanks!
:-) No problem. Also if you have other microphones with own level gain, then it's a typical procedure to lower the internal camera preamps and go up with the level gain on the microphone (for example the rode videomic's have +12db).
I think I will definitely be doing that. And again, thank you for being so helpful. I owe you a beer, haha.
Hey :-) No problem - I am glad that I could help!
How many microphones can connect to dsrl?
very nice, thanks !
Q: if you mix and match wireless Lavs going into the Y-adapter? any issues?
I have one Sennheiser now, not wanting to spend as much on a 2nd...
13:08 "Thats what she said!"
You dirty ;-)
link for the merger software?
Where's the link to Paul's page?
in the description of the video.
Tom Antos thanks for adding it
What kind of camera was this video shot on?
nice one bro
You should just shave a patch on your chest beforehand - thanks for the review. Excellent. Seems like the Invisilav is better, to me.
Lights?
why are the skin tones so yellow?
I almost clicked away because your audio is no good at the start
Instead of fixing it to the Chest you could have fixed the Microphone from inside to the T-shirt itself???
Gotta find that dog song it's woof woof good.
lol try listening to the whole song and you wont get it out of your head :)
that dog song tho
great tip!!!
Sounds fuller on shirt
Paul! Get some content!
can we work together?
Buen video.
audio bro thanks
good
dont put gaffers tape on your skin. it can cause real bad allergic reaktions. better use the tape from your first aid kid or something
lol @ "would have been better to have a girl's chest for this video"
RODELINK IS HUGE WITH DSLR CAMERA TOO BIG NONONONONO
Sounds like your bouncing off each other's mics. Sounds like poo.
how much are you getting paid to tell crap

I had the same thought too but they use the lavs after 1:00 min. They did it to show differences between camera mic to lav mic
