Nope. The movies were fantastic and while there’s things I wish were done differently I don’t trust them to cast them right. They’d miss cast for the sake of diversity for sure.
Well it would be more detailed on the book if it’s a series it has its perks but they need to expand the universe

The problem with black Hermione is that it's not sticking to the source material. She is mentioned as white. Just keeps it that way. If a character is described as Ginger, make them ginger, if they are black make them black but don't swap because it really does annoy fans when they throw the canon source material out the window in favor of a political statement.
Where exactly do the books specifically say Hermione is white? The exact book, book edition, chapter & page.
I’ve read all the HP books a over a dozen times (perk of being a nanny) & the only description of Hermione is bushy brown hair & large front teeth. Those physical traits are not exclusively Caucasian.

@Lea Robinson It says her face turns "white" or "red" in certain situations and, in Prisoner of Askaban, it's stated her skin "tanned in the summer".
Think if it what you will, but Hermione is white in the movies at least, and if they change that to fit a narrative in the new series, there will definitely be disapproval.

Hermione isn’t black in the books. JK Rowling just said she could be black in the play because she was just trying to please the woke mob. There is no evidence she had black ancestry. A black actress could work for the series but they already said the series was going to be faithful to the books. Otherwise what’s the point of the series. To poo poo all over franchise?
There’s no evidence that Hermione has Caucasian ancestry. Also when they say “faithful adaptations” they mean to the story. Half of the characters do not have specified races. If the race does not impact the story then it’s not as important. Hermione also has plenty of text clues that point to her being black. Her being black will also make the racism against her and SPEW more impactful.

in book 3 she’s described as having very deep brown skin. She has bushy hair, black girls have bushy hair. The white actresses can NEVER get the hair right as JK described in the book. Hermione is discriminated against and faces a ton of racism as do black people. The word mudblood is basically the N word of the wizarding world. Hermione has to work twice as hard to prove she is worthy of being that world similar to black people. Draco Malloy taunts Hermione for her hair texture. Black people get taunted and discriminated for their bushy hair texture. Hermione tried to perm and sleek her hair for the Yule ball black people have permed their hair for decades to try to fit into society’s white standards sometimes jobs even reprimanding them for their hair style. Hermione’s entire story is that of a black persons. It makes sense.

I can agree with your choice of Ron and Hermione but not Harry...that boy looks nothing like Harry. It would be really annoying to see someone as the new Harry who looks so different than the Harry we know.
Now, I personally would really prefer a white Hermione because that's what she is in the books, but if people really need to change her skin colour (which seems pretty racist to me) so bad then I guess Black Hermione works too.

You know they always have to make a reboot and have the whole cast black. But once you change a black character to white, that's a big No No to them.

I have always held a little bit of a grudge to the Harry Potter movies because they did not really stay true to the books. I would absolutely love to see this series stay true to the books. J. K. Rowling said that was a big point of this was to have the ability to have every aspect of the book, put into each season of the show. I’m absolutely excited and cannot wait to see all of the things they did not include in the movies.

If Talia doesn't get the role of Hermione, I could totally see her as Hufflepuff student Susan Bones. And it's sad that the films didn't address Susan's familial connection to Department of Ministry worker Amelia Bones, who is her aunt. I think Amelia dies somewhere in the novels (haven't read all of them as of yet, so not sure which novel), but if the TV show mentions it, we should see how it affects Susan and what she ends up doing after. We didn't really see her past the second film, as the films focused more on Gryffindor (being that's the main trio's house), but hopefully the TV series can give characters from other houses like Susan Bones some time in the spotlight.
After the failure of the Fantastic Beasts film series they could have done something else besides a Harry Potter reboot. I've heard people say they want a series about the Marauders and the fallout between Lily and Snape. A movie about the founding of the American wizarding school Ilvermorny, a series about the 4 founders of Hogwarts, maybe something focused on a school other than Hogwarts have probably been floating out there as well.
Continue Narnia if you can The Silver Chair, The Last Battle, The Magician's Nephew, The Horse and His Boy.
Honestly I’m looking forward to this. I’m glad it’s not movie remakes as those will still remain the Harry Potter movies and instead are getting a faithful tv show

Narnia is a great book series - but it poses some issues as a TV series or movie series. Few of the books actually have the same cast of characters, several of the books are very very HIGH fantasy - like the Horse and His Boy, and as the books came along they become less and less adaptable in my opinon.
I think this is exactly why the movies stopped where they did, and exactly why Netflix has shelved Narnia TV projects. It COULD work as maybe a telling of Narnia during the Pevensie era (between Lion and when they return back through the wardrobe).

Prior to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes coming out in November. You should recast The Hunger Games series. Here’s one recommendation, Sam Neill as President Snow. Just watch him in Daybreakers to see what I’m talking about.

I agree that the series doesn't need a reboot, but this TV series isn't being made for a random reboot. It's to deeply flesh out characters and storylines similar to how the books did but that the movies couldn't do because you can only put so much into a movie. So for those reasons I think it's absolutely necessary. So many characters and storylines were either cut completely, or significantly under used.

It's hard to say how much this reboot is needed (although I personally consider some films not the most successful), yet I'm used to Daniel Radcliffe and the rest, plus, I'm afraid that HBO may lose all the "British charm".
Still, it would probably be better for them to expand the world of Rowling, and not "parasitize" on it.
I thought you would say Alisha Weir, AKA Matilda Wormwood as Hermonie. Tallulah Conabeare did audition to play Matilda in the musical film.
She would be good, though she is currently 13, so technically a bit too old now, if you want to have only actual 11 year olds.

Why are we getting a reboot, we need a prequel for the marauders going from a light-hearted comedy hogwarts TV show where we can explore hogwarts in more depth and the marauders shenanigans with James and lilys rivalry to romance, then to a dark and tragic story with the first wizard war, imagine the ending with the death of James and lily, Snape's depression, Sirius sent to azkaban, Peter the rat and Remus sitting alone feeling he has no reason to live as everything was ripped away from him one by one ending up how he was before hogwarts due to being a werewolf. Tho HBO would still find a way to fuck it up

Someone else I could imagine as Ron Weasley (or at least one of his siblings) is Gregory Mann. He actually has red hair & with his voice acting role as Pinocchio in the Guillermo del Toro version on Netflix, he could have the mischievous aspect that Ron does.

I'm one of those massive Harry Potter fans who doesn't like most of the movies. I didn't even see the last 3 until years after they came out and I still can't bring myself to get excited to watch them. I am SO EXCITED for a reboot... I would love to see a more book-accurate Hermione, Snape, and Ginny. And more age appropriate Marauders/Snape. And more explanation/exposition altogether. I think they can definitely be remade with a different vibe and more detail to exist separate from the existing movies.
If Willy Wonka, Spiderman, James Bond, Batman, Pride & Prejudice, etc. can be remade/rebooted twice (or more) in the last 20 years, so can Harry Potter.

I feel like, with kids, a lot of times you can't tell how their looks are going to go. With the movie cast going back to the first movie, they were all decent looking kids. Who knew how they were going to turn out? Unless, of course, the studio did an age progression of each character and is like to see how it compares!

In the book it literally talks about Hermiones "white face" appearing out of the trees.... She was never described as being black. She just said that to support the black actress in the play... If she was black, then that's what she should be in the series, but she isn't.

The context of the quote from POA is that both Ron and Hermione had just come back from summer vacation and suddenly see Harry to wave at him:
"“They were there, both of them, sitting outside Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor -- Ron looking incredibly freckly, Hermione very brown [TANNED], both waving frantically at him.”
No I don’t want this, I don’t want a Harry Potter tv show, I don’t want a cursed child sequel, I want either 2 things, a sequel taking place years after the events of Deathly Hallows Part 2, or we wait till the 2040s and 2050s for a reboot, the movies haven’t aged that much yet.

The problem with black hermione is that she just isn't. Hermione is not black and that's okay.
If hermione was written as a black girl, there would be no issue because of course a black girl should be casted to protray her but that's not the case. It just feels like virtue signaling when people do this to a beloved character.
I bet anything we will hate the new cast at first and re-learn to love them! Especially us fans that grew up with the original trio we won’t let go so easily. This could be a major success or major flop, really depends how well they portray the books.
The films were wildly successful even though they missed alot of important book events. I believe the show could “better” where the movies fell short. We want to see a different adaption.
I like Ron and Hermione. Very lukewarm, edging on not enjoying the choice for Harry…he seems like a good actor, I just imagine Harry’s looks differently and I have a hard time moving past that.
Personally I would be in favour of another take on the saga; along with changes there was a lot cut from the films (Goblet of Fire has an entire page of omissions on TV Tropes) and the longer runtime of a TV season over a film allows them to keep a lot more, and possibly expand the story, for example chamber of secrets could show us the other houses reacting to the attacks, which would be a good way to include more from characters like Luna and Cedric. With Cedric in particular his death would hit a lot harder if we'd had 4 years to get to know him.
While it's unlikely that they'll go this route, but personally I would prefer a rebooted Harry Potter series to be animated, for one thing there are certain limitations live action has, particularly on a TV budget, for another, it allows them to side step the risk that, with the time it takes to film the entire show, the cast end up looking older than their characters are meant to be, the eternal risk of child actors in live action, and for a third thing an animated series has a better chance of standing on it's own as separate from the films, in comparison to a live action series.
I STRONGLY disagree that we don’t need this. As iconic as the movies were, they left a lot out and a better more in depth story can and should be told.
If they were remaking the movies i would agree. As a series… each book gets a whole season… as long as they don’t screw it up, it has potential to be GREAT!

In a sense, If the Reboot is a web series that can delve into the Harry Potter world and the right the wrongs the movies has done to certain characters it can work.

As a Harry Potter fan I don’t know if you’ve done this but I think it would be cool to include a casting video of characters in the Harry Potter books that aren’t in the movies like in the goblet of fire winky I know wasn’t in the movie and I don’t believe peeves was in the movies either I’m not sure on the answer to weather or not peeves was in the movies I don’t remember much of the movies I just read the books

Obama is a real life person. Hermione is a fictional witch from a children’s book. She never existed. She can be white or black to whomever is reading. It depends on your imagination.

They probably would. It would extremely jarring to have different actors between seasons. That’s why I think they’ll likely pick total unknowns and make them sign contracts. It would not work otherwise

Of course you are totally entitled to your own vision. But... let's look at Ron. Yes, ginger, it's important, but you can dye the hair and draw freckles. Ron is lanky, tall. Open the books and count how many times it is mentioned there. It's his definitive feature, yet, no makeup artist will make an actor tall and lanky. That has to be sought when casting. Harry... green eyes and untamed and unruly hair. Will we ever see that? It seems that your Ron and Harry are two versions of Percy, really. Don't they have to be just a bit less boring and more fun? Hermione is OK, no objection, yet the darker girl seems to be too pretty. And I hope so much, that we finally see that breathtaking Ginny we read about but haven't seen yet.
If the don't have good writing, if they don't have young actors with charisma, if they don't have a director who likes the material and good sets this will fail.
Agree that it's completely unnecessary, and honestly who actually wants it at this point?
The only way I would want a reboot of the HP series is if it was animated.
- The characters would all look entirely book accurate, without the actors needing to be.
- Ages of actors would be less noticeable as it's just their voices, and if any need replacing the character seen will still look the same.
- It can go more surreal. An example in the book is Hagrid tying a knot in Vernon's gun, whereas the film he just bends it. It would look rather ridiculous if a live action version did it like in the book. Magic can look more humorous and entertaining with an animated style as opposed to horrifying, like Dudley eating the ton-tongue toffee, or 'the bat-bogey hex' both sensibly not in the films.
- There would be a greater consistency from film to film, or season to season, as the Castle would geographically stay the same throughout utilising the same model. Whereas in live action certain access to locations might change or other reasons which mean whole areas look different.
- A new live action version is highly unlikely to use as many physical locations, sets, props and effects as the original and I reckon its effects will not blend as well knowing what modern production time and cost is like (look at Marvel when they don't give the time and money to creators), so a fully animated version would look more complete.
And of course as an overall effect it would just stand out on its own. Whether it goes for a 2D style, CG 3D, stop motion, motion capture etc, it can really have its own design not limited with what looks the most realistic. Imagine if it's CG, but for scenes in the pensieve it's animated in 2D, reflecting how it's just a memory.
I had the same thought with the Percy Jackson series, might work better animated.
Agreed. Actually even a long anime series would be the best. Japanese usually don't force western political agenda in their works.

You typed all of this for nothing. The animated series is not happening. That’s not the direction they want. They want MODERN direction for the new generation.
I just can't see the boys as Harry and Ron. They don't look right to me. If we are going to have another HP live action adaptation, I think it is the chance to have actors who look exactly like the description of the book, and these boys don't look like Harry and Ron to me. The girls, on the other hand, would be great as Hermione.
While I don't think that we really need a TV show as a reebot of the series, I do think that it should stick to the books description of the characters and it should be more accurate to the original story since it would have more time to really go into the character stuff and flesh them out better.
A reboot is needed because the movies didn't do the books justice, and tbh messed up a lot about the books.

I feel like I’m the only one crazily excited for this! The movies were incredibly inadequate adaptations of the books. Allowing for more depth in the story lines and character development through a TV show with at least 4x more air time per book, if not more, is exactly what the series needs. Can’t wait!

Violet McGraw as Hermione, I mean if you have seen M3GAN you can see how Violet is really good at playing the know-it-all card that Hermione's character identifies with. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Draco Malfoy (I mean he would be perfect acting sly after watching haunting of bly manor right?)

I’d like to see the adventures of the children of Harry, Harmonie, and Ron. This would be interesting to see what outcomes will be along with what events changed due to new developments from the Ministry of Magic. There are so many story lines the author can share of these creations!!

I’ve always wondered why not just create new characters in the same universe as the original films and explore a different school considering there are many schools like Hogwarts.
I have no problem with ethnic/female lead characters but I can't stand gender/race/orientation swapping. Hermione was white in the books, she was white in the original movies so she should be white in the remakes.
I'd like to see your Hogwarts Legacy casting. As the children there are older it would be easier to cast them as well
