I have this hope they will cast Jared Harris as Dumbledore. He's a son of Richard Harris, who played the role in first two movies and he definitely has everything for the role. Just look at his role of professor Legasov in Chernobyl. He can pull the wise, calm, old man, who has incredible strength in him as well as painful, tragic past. He's 62, so mabye a little younger, but it doesn't matter since we're talking about TV show that is planned to run for 7 years at least and considering he will have to act out all the fights/duels/action scenes.
🤯 OMG I never put the connection that he’s Richard Harris’ son!!! You just blew my mind. I’ve seen him in tons of things he’s an amazing actor. Aww he’s now my number one choice.
Oh that would be cool!!! It would be a mistake to drop a whole season at once, like some streaming series. Spacing it out and matching it up, when possible, would be smart and fun
Also, the first episode of each season has to drop on September 1. I know the stuff with the Dursleys happens throughout the summers, but everyone knows Hogwarts starts September 1, it’s only appropriate the shows start then, too. Unless it would conflict with holiday episodes, then they can drop slightly earlier, but the King’s Cross/Hogwarts Express episodes have to drop September 1.
Based on her performance in GOT, I could see Michelle Fairley being a fantastic McGonagall too! She's just a little older than McGonagall's canon age; has the right severe, prim and proper look; and she can portray a good mix of sternness and warmth.
Agreed! She could totally pull off McGonagall, plus it would be like a fan service or Easter egg having her come back. She had the small role of being Hermione’s mom in Deathly Hallows.
Dumbledore: Iain Glen McGonagall: Emma Thompson Snape: Adam Driver Hagrid: Mark Addy Quirrell: Joseph Quinn Sirius: James McAvoy Lupin: Andrew Garfield Lucius: Tom Hiddleston James: Freddie Highmore Lily: Sophie Turner Peter Petigrew: Paul Dano Voldemort: Bill Skasgard Bellatrix: Lena Headey Moody: Rory McCan Lockhart: Sam Claflin Barty Crouch Jr: Iwan Rheon Arthur W: Simon Pegg Molly W: Catherine Tate Vernon: James Corden Petunia: Katherine Ryan Umbridge: Jane Horrocks
For me Robert Sheehan would play a perfect Sirius Black he also has the right age. I love the idea of Robert Carlyle as Filch. I would love Stephen Merchant as Arthur Weasley in the books he is described as tall and gangly. I would also LOVE to see Miranda Hart as a Harry Potter character many one of the professors or maybe Madam Pomfrey she played a nure before.
My personal favourites (not using the British only rule) Albus Dumbledore - Jude Law Minerva McGonagall - Emma Thompson Severus Snape - Adam Driver Vernon Dursley - James Corden Petunia Dursley - Cate Blanchett Lucius Malfoy - Tom Felton Narcissa Malfoy - Alison Sudol Voldemort - Jamie Campbell-Bower Arthur Weasley - Rupert Grint Molly Weasley - Catherine Tate Remus Lupin - Matthew Lewis Sirius Black - Dev Patel Rubeus Hagrid - Brendan Gleeson Horace Slughorn - Steven Fry Bellatrix Lestrange - Margot Robbie Dora Tonks - Kaya Scodelario Rita Skeeter - Rosamund Pike James Potter - Daniel Radcliffe Lily Potter - Bonnie Wright Barty Crouch Jr - Taylor Lautner Barty Crouch - David Tennant Dolores Umbridge - Rosie O’Donnell Rufus Scrimgeour - Benedict Cumberbatch Kingsley Shacklebolt - Idris Elba John Major (muggle Prime Minister) - Dan Stevens Cornelius Fudge - Colin Firth Professor Trelawney - Emma Stone Rowan Atkinson - Peeves
Snape- Either Adam Driver or Rufus Sewell Hagrid- Andy Serkis James Potter- Freddie Highmore Dumbledore- James Cromwell for old- Kenneth Branagh for young Umbridge- Kathy Bates (she would bring the scary) Lupin- Micheal Keaton Peeves- Mr Bean! Voldemort- Cumberbatch would be insane in all the right ways
I think they need to cast a bit younger for James and Lily. They were only 21 when they were killed by Voldemort. Severus, Remus, Sirius and Peter should be cast in the early 30s range
For James.... I was thinking Richard Madden, although I'm not sure he'd sign for a role that small. As for Lupin, Black, and Wormtail, Tom Hiddleston for Lupin, Paul Dano for Wormtail, and Ben Barnes for Sirius Black.
Also, if he wasn't already a young Grindelwald, Jamie Campbell Bower would be perfect for both Tom Riddle and Voldemort. I mean after watch him as Vecna in Stranger Things, and seeing how he pulled off the part as a young adult, they can try the same and make him look youthful as Tom, but then horrifying as Voldemort when he becomes less human, due to the Horcruxes.
I just hope they stay true to the characters in the books and don't race-swap half the cast just for some stupid forced inclusivity, that has destroyed countless TV Shows already. Just look at Percy Jackson. That show was a disaster for a myriad of reasons, but the thing a lot of people were upset about was that most, if not all, of the cast did not even look like the characters they were portraying from the books. The original Harry Potter movies at least had actors that had some of the traits of the book counterparts. They don't have to have all of them, but as close as possible. After the Percy Jackson disaster, I'm skeptical but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, for now.
Given that the books and the film are a tad whitewashed for a supposedly national British (& Irish) school I hope they at least make the nonwhite cast more visible and prominent.
He was so good in the Fantastic Beasts series! I just heard that’s he’s going to be on a Marvel TV series, so sadly that might tie him up for a while if the series does well. I mean good for him of course but I would have loved him to come back to the Wizarding World.
Even though I might not agree with a lot of things opinions you have here, I still really appreciate the effort put into this video. 😝 I think it was really well done, especially for somebody with as few subscribers as you have. Take another one. Looking forward to more of your content.
Thank you!! I really appreciate it! Hopefully I’ll continue to improve, but I’m having a lot of fun making videos and being apart of a community that also loves Harry Potter.
So, I agree with most of your casting choices for different characters. However, I feel that Adam Driver would also be a great choice for Severus Snape. Driver played Kylo Ren in the most recent Star Wars trilogy and has the darkness, depth and versatility that I feel would be perfect for a character like Snape. Also, he appears to be near or around the right age to play Snape. Around his thirties or forties.
I totally agree that Adam Driver would be amazing in the role. His looks and acting ability would be great for Snape. Ever since they announced the show he’s name has been talked about, so I wanted to think a little out of the box for him in this video, but yeah I agree he would a top choice.
The thing is- Adam already said no so he is out of the equation. I will expect nothing less than perfection from whoever is going to play my favorite character in the books.
@@mitchellbooth8435 How is that matter? He didn't want the part anyway. Besides there are not many British actors as far as I know of. Rowling should give up on British cast only this is nonsense attitude.
@@eranshachar9954 If you want it to fail dramatically then sure get loads of Americans to butcher the English/British accents. Film the entire thing in the US, get details like the climate wrong and historical buildings, why not go a little further and start putting American flags in Hogwarts? the point is it is a piece of English literature and it deserves to have the source material respected. Americans cannot do British accents and have a tendency to stereotype which would kill it for the British audience.
She didn’t even mention his cgi work for Smaug!!! He was fully suited up and familiar with sinister roles!!! I would take the mark too if he was cast 😊
It's going to be so tough to cast the roles mentioned all are great actors but I don't like butler after his 2004 phantom of the opera. The two roles where they have to cast right is Albus and Snape, it has to be perfect the two best adult characters .
Yes! Those are sooo important! Not only will it be tough to cast those roles, but also finding someone who will give up potential other projects for the next 9-10 years as they film.
They just announced the open auditions for Harry, Ron, and Hermione. The new actors need to be between 9 and 11 years old. Sadly I think Alisha Weir is too old, but still an amazing actress.
I don't like reusing of actors from the original- movies at all, with a reboot it's supposed to have new actors for new interpretations. Dumbledore needs an old grand man for an example like Charles Dance or Michael Caine. I prefer Bryan Seekers recasting rather than these ones
Jared Harris: Dumbledore Nick Frost: Hagrid Richard Brake: Lord Voldemort Michelle Gomez: McGonagall Tom Blyth: Snape Ewan Mitchell: Lupin Aaron Taylor Johnson: Sirius Thomas Turgoose: Wormtail Emily Watson: Umbridge Sean Pertwee: Mad-Eye Moody Ruby Stokes: Tonks David Oyelowo: Kingsley Sam Claflin: Lockhart Stephen Fry: Slughorn Burn Gorman: Peeves Eva Green: Bellatrix Dan Stevens: Lucius Annabelle Wallis: Narcissa George Mackay: Barty Crouch Jr Sally Hawkins: Trelawney Tim Roth: Filch Toby Jones: Fudge/Dobby Lucy Punch: Rita Lucy Davis: Molly Stephen Merchant: Arthur

If they do cast Karen Gillan as Bellatrix, then they should bring back David Tennant to play Barty Crouch Junior a second time ( it wouldn’t be the first time he played two iterations of the same character, after all), just so that all the Whovians in the audience can squee at Amy Pond sharing a scene with The 10th Doctor during the flashback to the two of them getting sent to Azkaban.
@@ericturner6286 Yeah, but they already aged him up a good 15 years in the original film, plus the audience is just supposed to ignore that he doesn’t look any older in the present day (although in all fairness, David Tennant didn’t look that much older in real life 14 years after filming GOF.) All they’d have to do is cast an older actor to play Crouch Sr, which would work perfectly well given that there are cast members in the original films aged 60-70 who are playing characters aged over 100, and establish that Crouch Jr joined the death eaters later in life. For reference, Alan Rickman was roughly the same age during the filming of GOF as David Tennant will likely be at the point that season 4 of the show will be filmed, and was several years older than that when he filmed the flashbacks in DH Part 2 which are meant to take place 17 years prior, and few people have an issue the the implication that Snape joined the death eaters much later in life than his book counterpart.
@@ChrisWilson-bu5qm That’s actually an excellent idea. With that in mind, here’s another idea, they could cast Ty Tennant as Crouch Jr so that a father and son were playing a father and son. There’s precedent for real life relatives acting together in The Potterverse, with Tom Felton’s partner playing Draco’s wife in the epilogue, Ralph Fiennes’ nephew playing Voldemort’s younger self in the pensieve flashback, and of course James and Oliver Phelps playing the Weasley twins (contrary to their claim in an interview that they first met during the audition), plus it would be a neat little reference to Ty Tennant’s recent role in Good Omens, where his father was played by his grandfather.
I think Stephen Fry I think would make a great Slughorn as well. I think Brendan Gleeson would make a better Hagrit. Also Nick Frost would be very good as Hagrit. I think McGonagall needs to be Birith and I think Michelle Gomez would be perfect.
Probably true. The movies got lucky with how many big names they got back then. I wish we could get a teaser of who they are narrowing down on. They must be holding auditions if the projection is to air in 2026.
True, but I’m sure WB and HBO are going to throw buckets of money with this project. But yeah you can’t really stack all the money in casting, then the CGI would wouldn’t be as good, or it will take way more time to do.
I still firmly hope it’s an all British cast. Americans seem to have been problematic in this franchise (see fantastic beasts) This list had good ideas - but actors from the original playing other prominent characters in the series is such a weird choice and jarring. Whether they’re amazing or not
@@SandraS1397 is that the general consensus from the community? Or are you just stating that? I get it would be joyous to see an old Potter actor back in the reboot because it will play on the throwback and nostalgia strings but when it actually comes to it, I don't think any of you are really gonna be sold on Tom Felton who play Draco Malfoy years ago now coming back to play his own dad in a reboot in which the characters have similar characteristics and visuals anyway. Face it, it'll just be stick out reminder you're watching an actor. You're looking at Tom Felton the actor.
It’s just for fun, that’s why it’s a mix of new and old. There’s been some great suggestions in the comments. I would love to hear your thoughts on different choices too.
I am so impressed with your choices!!! I have a few more actors that I could see as some characters but I don’t think I would be unhappy with the choices you made…. Bravo !! Well done !!
Michelle Fairley as McGonagall, Cillian Murphy as Voldemort and Barry Keoghan as Severus Snape. Also JKR said that only UK and Ireland citizens will be considered.
I would definately choose David Thewlis to play Dumbledore. And yes, Emma Thompson would be the perfect McGonagall. maybe Matthew Lewis as Lupin? Oh, and Natalia Tena as Trelawney!
Emma Thompson - would be the one I am hoping for (or Kate Winslet or Helen Mirren) Also... Jason Isaacs could make a great Dumbledore But Kenneth Branagh would be great (although this would probably rule Emma Thompson out) I am hoping for Matthew Lewis as Remus Lupin, I think he would be amazing! as for Snape I would LOVE daniel Radclik as Severus Snape (yeah not happening) but I really love your choice of Harry Melling Voldemort What about Ralph Fiennes? he is more to the age of Voldemort now. Benedict Cumberbatch would also be great! For Peeves - Simon Farnaby Rowan Atkinson as Filch
I have a vague memory of an interview where Ralph Fiennes said he would play the role again, but I can’t remember if that was real or just a thought I had. And I would LOVE Matthew Lewis in any role, but he would be a good Lupin
Mad eye Moody is MUCH older than the actors you picked. Pick an older British actor. 😉 Arthur Weasley is tall, thin, and balding. Colin Furth seems more like Dumbledore to me. 😊 Snape...Adrien Brody or DJ Qualls are much more physically Professor Snape.
It’s pretty easy to age up actors for film, especially for Dumbledore, but Hagrid is suppose to be 63 when Harry starts at Hogwarts. Fry and Gleeson are only 5/6 years older than that. It’s weird saying Hagrids age… feels wrong, doesn’t seem right, but it is. He’s young at heart!
I really like your recasts here really I only have one I don't really agree with I think Cumberbatch is just too obvious one person I thought of before when playing the recast game with friends is Robert Carlyle from Once upon a time he can definitely pull it off and is comfortable being in a bunch of makeup I can't name someone who would make a better Filch off the top of my head.
They probably won’t and that’s probably for the best if they don’t, it’s just for fun. There will probably be at least one fan service casting though. Maybe it will be someone smaller like Ludo Bagman. To be honest though it was hard to picture other actors than the originals so their faces kept popping in my head. There are some amazing suggestions in the comments though. I wish some of those names came to me when I was thinking of my list.
I just want the adults to be more age accurate. Remember James and Lilly were like 21-22 when they were killed, so they would be 31-32 at the Philosophers stone start.
I really dont want Toby Jones to play Slughorn i love slughorn and I don't mean it as anything against Toby but something about him brings up incredibly uncomfortable feeling from childhood and I don't want that to taint slughorn for me. almost everything I have seen him in he plays someone slimy and for that specifically I think he would make a better Peter but he is older. Sean Bean is more fit for Mad eye but I hate to see him get another roll were he yet again is killed off. I know its become some kind of joke about his rolls always dying OMG I feel so dumb, you said Filch was in 7 of the 8 films and my brain instantly went to fight you on that.... and then I realized he wasn't in DH p1 cause they never truly went to Hogwarts. wait did I miss it or did you not even mention Rupert Grint for a roll, him and Tom Felton are 2 of the previous cast that are dying to go back to Hogwarts.
Toby Jones oddly does get a lot of those ‘I wanna hate you’ roles. But one role EVERYONE fell in love with was Dobby 💙 How I forgot to mention that he voiced Dobby in the video I just don’t know. LOL Poor Sean Bean. He does get pretty unlucky with that. 😬 I didn’t put Rupert in the video. I thought he might be too far of a stretch for WB to pick him, even Tom Felton probably is, but I still put him in. I’m not sure who I would like to see him as either. I feel like Arthur would be an easy answer, but I’ll have to think on it.
@@CassandraMars yeah Rupert is on record saying he will take any roll in HP world but he does have an Arthor quality to him which is very hilarious. Tom has also been stating he wants back into HP. I found a page of fan story rewrites and there was at least one Tom read over 2 or 3 videos. There is always a couple child actors that just feel like the first thing they were in long term they are begging to go back to what ever world it was. unlike some actors like Maggie Smith I've heard she hates being asked HP questions in interviews and with how amazing she was it kinda hurts my little HP heart to hear that.
Ooh I’m going to have to look up those videos of Tom Felton! Don’t think too hard on Maggie Smith, she’s an acting legend who just wants to be remembered for more than HP. I’ve seen interviews where she was so excited about being apart of it all, she was even battling cancer and getting treatment during filming and still showed up to keep the magic alive.
1. Kenneth Branagh as Dumbledore 2. Stephen Fry as Hagrid (And he already had the voice down!) 3. Benedict Cumberbatch as Voldy, but really...he would be much better as Snape. He has the depth to carry off the complexity of the Snape. 4. Emma Thompson as McGonagall 5. Harry Melling as Snape 9:57. Good grief, he looks like Snape right there!!!! 6. Matthew Lewis as Lupin (my own submission) 7. Sam Claflin as Sirius 8. James Buckley as Pettigrew 9. Umbridge....gonna out on a limb here, but after viewing the recent Dr Who.....Jinxx Monsoon (but maybe scale it back a bit). Both of your choices are much too pretty to play Umbridge. Other than those......breaking the rule.....Rosie O'Donnell. She already looks like a toad and a pretty darned good actress. She can learn the accent. 10. Gerald Butler as Moody 11. No idea for Tonks, but both of your choices are a bit too pretty for the role. 12. Idris Elba as Kingsley....but I like Albert as well 13. Tom Hiddleston as Lockhart 14. Toby Jones as Slughorn 15. Rowan Atkinson as Peeves 16. Natalie Dormer as Bella 17. Tom Felton as Lucius 18. Emilia Clarke as Narcissa 19. O'Donohugh as Crouch Jr 20. Emily Blunt as Trelawney 21. David Bradley as Filch 22. Colin Firth as Fudge 23. Rebecca Mader as Skeeter 24. Katherine Parkinson as Molly 25. Gleason is an easy choice for Arthur
Emma Thompson would never agree to play McGonagall if Branagh is playing Dumbledore (and vice versa). She only agreed to play Trelawny if she never had to be on set with either him or Helena Bonham Carter. If nobody knows, Thompson and Branagh were married and he had an affair with Carter and left her to be with Carter. So if your putting Branagh as Dumbledore there's no way Thompson would ever sign up to play McGonagall
Some of these are good (Harry Melling as Snape, Jude Law as Dumbledore…but he’s a bit young) and some are SO BAD. Rachel Weisz as Unbridge. Kristin Bauer (the beautiful AMERICAN vampire from true blood) as McGonagall?! Wtffff Some of this was just poorly written or spoken too, which takes away credibility. “A force to not be reckoned with,” it’s a force to reckoned with. Ralph Fiennes is pronounced RAFE. Animagus has a hard G. I’m not even halfway through the video… Edit…Florence Pugh is in her 20s. She’s too young to be someone who was a professor (trelawney) before Harry was born. Pugh would be a little too young for Bellatrix, but she would be better suited for her. Also, Michelle Dockery for Bellatrix would be epic
Thanks for watching the video despite my sometime odd(or bad) choices. When I got to my editing phase I kicked myself for how I pronounced things. I spent soo much time putting it together I thought it would be too hard to go back and try to edit in the correct words. It’s only my 3rd video on the channel and I’m doing it all from a phone. I really got to get a program for my computer to make things easier. If you have any other actor suggestions I’d love to hear. There are so many amazing choices already in the comments by viewers. Tons I wish that would have popped into my head before making this videos.
Where did you hear that lupin became a werewolf by choice?? He was attacked as a child by fenrir greyback, who sought to attack young children & turn as many as possible.
😬 I think you misheard me say child as choice. I stumble on my words a lot, sorry about that. But yes he was bitten as a child by Fenrir as an act of revenge against his father Lyall Lupin.
@TheRoomOfRequirement I interpreted what you said as Lupin getting bitte to rebel against his own father, not as Fenrir attacking lupin to exact revenge against lupins dad. Thanks for clearing that up
Possibly, but the original movies had some HUGE names in it. They might be some willing to do it, which would probably means they are fans of the story. Fingers crossed who ever they hire takes the roles seriously.
I heard that! He’d be really good at the hidden emotions Snape has too. I didn’t put him in the video though since he was talked about before, I tried to pick ones a little different, but he would be really good as Snape.
@@Lupinemancer87 probability that Hermione will be black? (based on an infamous discussion where J. K. Rowling said that Hermione can be black “if we want” or something).
I think they should pick much younger actors than the characters but age them appropriately with makeup. If their character lasts ten years, they can "age up" to the character without looking odd.
Tomato, Tomato 🤷♀️ sorry I pronounce things differently or wrong sometimes. I get quite nervous recording so I may stumble on my words, forget to say a certain detail (like when I mentioned Toby Jones I forgot to say he was the voice of Dobby), and I might pronounce things differently. I’m only human, but yes it’s with an OR not A.
I wouldn’t hate Tom Huddleston for Snape. He’s a bit older but could still pull off mid-30s, and he can play dark characters. The only issue is that he’d likely fall into an Alan Rickman impression, which isn’t the point of the series (though could be a great homage to Rickman).
@@osmanyousif7849 I agree, he could be great as Lupin. I feel like he’d also make a great Sirius, but that turn feels a little too close to Loki (the whole bad guy turning/actually being good guy thing). But not going to lie, I’d love to see him as Snape just for the chance that we can get the Rickman impression. I miss Alan Rickman.
For YEARS Audible only had the Jim Dale version in the US. (Which I love and have listened to countless times) I was SOOOO excited when they finally released the Stephen Fry edition recently to US customers. I immediately got all 7 books and started listening.
@joly6598 I jumped the moment I heard about it! They are also making a full cast version (with new voices) probably coming out in 2025 but they are casting it now. That will be a fun listen.
Very few of the characters have a defined ethnicity in the books (and the one that have are depicted in an unfortunately stereotypical manner), thus opening majority of the roles to British actors and actresses of any background.
Nope! I am very glad Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe are not returning; their disrespect of J.K. is unacceptable to this fan. I hope the new actors do such a great job, that they're given awards for their wonderful work.
I bet the new actors will be big fans of the story. If they pick actors that are the same age as the adult characters in the book, they will be the perfect age to have grown up with when the books were first released. I really hope too that they will be great. It’s too good of a story to not put everything they have into the role.
@@CassandraMars. I think your choice of Harry Melling for Snape is inspired. He could really smash that role. He has been working with some top quality actors in several movies. In fact, of all the young/child actors from the Potter movies Melling has (with the exception of Pattinson) been the most successful. He is an actor who will win an Oscar one day.
Why wouldn't they make an animated series of it? And make the animated version more accurate to the books. Then they would only need the voices. Argus Filch doesn't hate magic, he hates that these kids can do magic and he can't. It's a hate out of jealousy. He works at Hogwarts, because he always wanted to go there as a student, but couldn't because he's a squib. This way he's a part of the magic world.
That’s where the beauty of the makeup department comes in, but by the time the show starts filming he would only be about 7-8 years younger than Michael Gambon was in 2000. Add another 10 years for Richard Harris, but Law and Gambon not that big of an age gap.
1. Kenneth Brannagh..maybe 2. Brendan Gleeson 3. ? 4. Emma Thompson 5. Melling possibly 6. Either 7. First one 8. ? 9. Without heavy makeup both too good looking..even Imelda was. 10. ? 11. ? 12. Elba 13. ? 14. Peeves - Atkinson Bellatrix - ? Lucius - Tom Felton Narcissa ? Barty Crouch Jr. - either Trelawney - ? Filch - Roth Fudge - either Skeeter - Mader Molly - ? Arthur - ?
Thompson would never agree to play a role alongside Branagh. They had a very nasty divorce and one of the stipulations she had during the original films was that she would never be on set or film with Bonham-Carter or Branagh. Branagh and Thompson went through a very nasty divorce after Branagh had and affair with Bonham-Carter and dated for a few years afterwards. The 3 of them absolutely hate each other.
I'm really not trying to be that guy, but there are so many mispronounced names of characters and actors in this video. Please do your research before presenting, it's very distracting.
I’m not great at speeches. I get nervous and stumble and mispronounce things. If there’s a typo in my writing, I’m reading it ( Gerard not Gerald ) I’m very new at all of this and appreciate the honest feedback.
Ah never say never. HBO and WB won’t want to break the illusion of creating a new world with already seen faces, BUT it’s been done it before with other remakes and reboots so there is always that hopeful wishing feeling it could happen.
I love SuperCarlinBrothers theory on that! One day I hope to grow this channel to the point where maybe I can collaborate a video with them. Maybe in a few years I’ll look at this comment and say I finally did it 😁

Simon Pegg should continue to be Phineas Nigellus Black considering he already voices the character for Hogwarts Legacy and it would be the brand synergy that WB loves. Tom Ellis of Lucifer fame IMHO should be Lockhart. All the charm and an idiot thru and thru. Aside? You have a LOT of OUAT actors. I am a Oncer as much as the next person but only one maybe two are at that level for HBO's tastes.

My personal favourites (not using the British only rule)
Albus Dumbledore - Jude Law
Minerva McGonagall - Emma Thompson
Severus Snape - Adam Driver
Vernon Dursley - James Corden
Petunia Dursley - Cate Blanchett
Lucius Malfoy - Tom Felton
Narcissa Malfoy - Alison Sudol
Voldemort - Jamie Campbell-Bower
Arthur Weasley - Rupert Grint
Molly Weasley - Catherine Tate
Remus Lupin - Matthew Lewis
Sirius Black - Dev Patel
Rubeus Hagrid - Brendan Gleeson
Horace Slughorn - Steven Fry
Bellatrix Lestrange - Margot Robbie
Dora Tonks - Kaya Scodelario
Rita Skeeter - Rosamund Pike
James Potter - Daniel Radcliffe
Lily Potter - Bonnie Wright
Barty Crouch Jr - Taylor Lautner
Barty Crouch - David Tennant
Dolores Umbridge - Rosie O’Donnell
Rufus Scrimgeour - Benedict Cumberbatch
Kingsley Shacklebolt - Idris Elba
John Major (muggle Prime Minister) - Dan Stevens
Cornelius Fudge - Colin Firth
Professor Trelawney - Emma Stone
Rowan Atkinson - Peeves
Ooohhh those are some good choices! And having Bonnie Wright as Lily would be so sweet.
@@CassandraMars I just thought David Tennant would be perfect for Barty Crouch Sr since he’d already played Jr

Snape- Either Adam Driver or Rufus Sewell
Hagrid- Andy Serkis
James Potter- Freddie Highmore
Dumbledore- James Cromwell for old- Kenneth Branagh for young
Umbridge- Kathy Bates (she would bring the scary)
Lupin- Micheal Keaton
Peeves- Mr Bean!
Voldemort- Cumberbatch would be insane in all the right ways
Nice choices! You’re right about Kathy Bates, she’s good at bringing the scary.
Snape - Adam Driver, first choice by a mile.
Hagrid - Mark Addy
Madame Maxine - Gwendolyn Christie
James Potter - Dan Radcliffe
Ooh yeah she would be good as Madame Maxine
I think they need to cast a bit younger for James and Lily. They were only 21 when they were killed by Voldemort. Severus, Remus, Sirius and Peter should be cast in the early 30s range
For James.... I was thinking Richard Madden, although I'm not sure he'd sign for a role that small. As for Lupin, Black, and Wormtail, Tom Hiddleston for Lupin, Paul Dano for Wormtail, and Ben Barnes for Sirius Black.
Someone watched GOT too much
Arthur Weasley Martin freeman.
The dude who played pennywise would be a good Voldemort
Ohhhh yeah Bill Skarsgard! He’d be good. He could totally pull off the Voldemort vibe.
@@CassandraMarsmight need a vocal coach though for the accent
Also, if he wasn't already a young Grindelwald, Jamie Campbell Bower would be perfect for both Tom Riddle and Voldemort. I mean after watch him as Vecna in Stranger Things, and seeing how he pulled off the part as a young adult, they can try the same and make him look youthful as Tom, but then horrifying as Voldemort when he becomes less human, due to the Horcruxes.
Tim Curry - who is excellent in anything he does
Not British so no.
I’d like to see Colin Morgan from Merlin in some role in the Harry Potter Universe
I think he could even pull off a good Snape.
I would love Jude Law to be Dumbledore again. I think he really captured the written personality.
It should be an animated series.
He is not British so no
@@mitchellbooth8435 How is that matter? He didn't want the part anyway. Besides there are not many British actors as far as I know of. Rowling should give up on British cast only this is nonsense attitude.
@@eranshachar9954 If you want it to fail dramatically then sure get loads of Americans to butcher the English/British accents. Film the entire thing in the US, get details like the climate wrong and historical buildings, why not go a little further and start putting American flags in Hogwarts? the point is it is a piece of English literature and it deserves to have the source material respected. Americans cannot do British accents and have a tendency to stereotype which would kill it for the British audience.
I LOVE Natalie Dormer for Bellatrix! And I want Gary Oldman to do Dumbledore
Right?! She would play her so well.
What about Eva Green?
I'd personally prefer Katie McGrath
if benedict plays voldemort, I'm gonna be a death eater!
Imagine they de-aged Tim for Tom Riddle too.
She didn’t even mention his cgi work for Smaug!!! He was fully suited up and familiar with sinister roles!!! I would take the mark too if he was cast 😊
time to finally get gandalf for dumbledore
an 84 year old would not survive the run time sadly
It's going to be so tough to cast the roles mentioned all are great actors but I don't like butler after his 2004 phantom of the opera. The two roles where they have to cast right is Albus and Snape, it has to be perfect the two best adult characters .
Yes! Those are sooo important! Not only will it be tough to cast those roles, but also finding someone who will give up potential other projects for the next 9-10 years as they film.
Alisha Weir MUST be Hermonie ❤ She has the look, personality and acting chops. If theres a God he will make this happen 🙏🏻
They just announced the open auditions for Harry, Ron, and Hermione. The new actors need to be between 9 and 11 years old. Sadly I think Alisha Weir is too old, but still an amazing actress.
I doubt Emma Thompson would be ok to work with Kenneth Branagh. Bit of history there.
I always wondered if they became okay enough to work on a project together. I know Emma and Helena made “peace” with each other.
I don't like reusing of actors from the original- movies at all, with a reboot it's supposed to have new actors for new interpretations. Dumbledore needs an old grand man for an example like Charles Dance or Michael Caine. I prefer Bryan Seekers recasting rather than these ones
I don’t care who they cast as long as they look like the characters described in the books and that they are decent actors.
Jared Harris: Dumbledore
Nick Frost: Hagrid
Richard Brake: Lord Voldemort
Michelle Gomez: McGonagall
Tom Blyth: Snape

Love it! Makes me want to make a part two.
That wouldn't work though, as during their trial, Barty Crouch Jr was a young man. Almost a kid.
@@ericturner6286 Yeah, but they already aged him up a good 15 years in the original film, plus the audience is just supposed to ignore that he doesn’t look any older in the present day (although in all fairness, David Tennant didn’t look that much older in real life 14 years after filming GOF.)
All they’d have to do is cast an older actor to play Crouch Sr, which would work perfectly well given that there are cast members in the original films aged 60-70 who are playing characters aged over 100, and establish that Crouch Jr joined the death eaters later in life.
Just have him play Barty sr
I hope they cast Danny Devito as Harry 🤞🤞🤞
😂
I think Stephen Fry I think would make a great Slughorn as well. I think Brendan Gleeson would make a better Hagrit. Also Nick Frost would be very good as Hagrit.
I think McGonagall needs to be Birith and I think Michelle Gomez would be perfect.
This was a very insightful video!!!
Thank you so much!! It was fun to think about and put together.
I thought of Michelle Dockery as McGonagall. She worked with Maggie smith on Downton abbey so may have some ideas on how to capture that role
I’m one of those rare birds that’s never seen Downton Abbey, I’ll have to look her up.
@@CassandraMarstry at least season 1
Great actress, but I believe McGonagall should at least be in her in her late 50s.
Great choice but I think she is young to play McGonagall.
Hopefully they cast decent, loyal people who don't publicly join the mob against Queen Jo.
These are all lovely, but this cast would cost a small fortune, and I have a feeling that they're going to run with a lot more unknown names/faces.
Probably true. The movies got lucky with how many big names they got back then. I wish we could get a teaser of who they are narrowing down on. They must be holding auditions if the projection is to air in 2026.
Most of these picks are A or B listers who would collectively skyrocket the cast budget.
True, but I’m sure WB and HBO are going to throw buckets of money with this project. But yeah you can’t really stack all the money in casting, then the CGI would wouldn’t be as good, or it will take way more time to do.
I sip Rowan Atkinson playing Peeves, it should be fun !
I still firmly hope it’s an all British cast. Americans seem to have been problematic in this franchise (see fantastic beasts)
This list had good ideas - but actors from the original playing other prominent characters in the series is such a weird choice and jarring. Whether they’re amazing or not
Felton for Lucia's and Gleason for Arthur I think are the exception to that
Felton has already come out and said he'd love to be considered for Lucious. The Fandom would love to see this.
You're looking at Tom Felton the actor.
for the love of god can people stop picking actors already seen in the movies. be fucking original for once.
Thank you!!!
Michelle Fairley as McGonagall, Cillian Murphy as Voldemort and Barry Keoghan as Severus Snape. Also JKR said that only UK and Ireland citizens will be considered.
Oohh I love those!! I’m glad they are sticking with UK and Ireland, it’s too distracting with actors faking an accent.
For severus snape the actor that played dumbledores nephew in the fantastic beast series will more that fit the role.
Benedict could also be a choice for snape.
it was supposed to drop yesterday on hbo max,but i have seen 0 info about it
Ooh something new on HP? That would be cool. The show probably won’t be around until 2026. I heard there’s a HP cooking competition show coming out.
I would definately choose David Thewlis to play Dumbledore. And yes, Emma Thompson would be the perfect McGonagall. maybe Matthew Lewis as Lupin?
Oh, and Natalia Tena as Trelawney!
I would all of that! Natalia Tena as Trelawney would be so much fun
Emma Thompson - would be the one I am hoping for (or Kate Winslet or Helen Mirren)
Also... Jason Isaacs could make a great Dumbledore
But Kenneth Branagh would be great (although this would probably rule Emma Thompson out)
I am hoping for Matthew Lewis as Remus Lupin, I think he would be amazing!
as for Snape
I would LOVE daniel Radclik as Severus Snape (yeah not happening)
but I really love your choice of Harry Melling
Voldemort
What about Ralph Fiennes?
he is more to the age of Voldemort now.
Benedict Cumberbatch would also be great!
For Peeves - Simon Farnaby
Rowan Atkinson as Filch
I have a vague memory of an interview where Ralph Fiennes said he would play the role again, but I can’t remember if that was real or just a thought I had.
And I would LOVE Matthew Lewis in any role, but he would be a good Lupin

Mad eye Moody is MUCH older than the actors you picked.
Pick an older British actor. 😉
Arthur Weasley is tall, thin, and balding.
Colin Furth seems more like Dumbledore to me. 😊
Snape...Adrien Brody or DJ Qualls are much more physically Professor Snape.
The ages are all off. Hagrid actors too old, dumbledore actors too young
Find a 112 year old actor to play Dumbledore
How about the late Sir Richard Harris son Jared Harris as Albus Dumbledore.
Catherine Tate as Molly Weasley
Sophie Turner as Lily Potter
I really like your recasts here really I only have one I don't really agree with I think Cumberbatch is just too obvious one person I thought of before when playing the recast game with friends is Robert Carlyle from Once upon a time he can definitely pull it off and is comfortable being in a bunch of makeup I can't name someone who would make a better Filch off the top of my head.
why did you include so many actors who were part of the films? i dont think theyre gonna do that
They probably won’t and that’s probably for the best if they don’t, it’s just for fun.
Jared Harris should be Albvs Dumbledore
I just want the adults to be more age accurate. Remember James and Lilly were like 21-22 when they were killed, so they would be 31-32 at the Philosophers stone start.
Jude Law as Dumbledore
It's unlikely Jude Law will be Albus Dumbledore in the tv show.
You’re probably right, but one can dream 🙂
I really dont want Toby Jones to play Slughorn i love slughorn and I don't mean it as anything against Toby but something about him brings up incredibly uncomfortable feeling from childhood and I don't want that to taint slughorn for me. almost everything I have seen him in he plays someone slimy and for that specifically I think he would make a better Peter but he is older.
Sean Bean is more fit for Mad eye but I hate to see him get another roll were he yet again is killed off. I know its become some kind of joke about his rolls always dying
OMG I feel so dumb, you said Filch was in 7 of the 8 films and my brain instantly went to fight you on that.... and then I realized he wasn't in DH p1 cause they never truly went to Hogwarts.
wait did I miss it or did you not even mention Rupert Grint for a roll, him and Tom Felton are 2 of the previous cast that are dying to go back to Hogwarts.
1. Kenneth Branagh as Dumbledore
2. Stephen Fry as Hagrid (And he already had the voice down!)
3. Benedict Cumberbatch as Voldy, but really...he would be much better as Snape. He has the depth to carry off the complexity of the Snape.

5. Harry Melling as Snape 9:57. Good grief, he looks like Snape right there!!!!
6. Matthew Lewis as Lupin (my own submission)
7. Sam Claflin as Sirius
8. James Buckley as Pettigrew
10. Gerald Butler as Moody
11. No idea for Tonks, but both of your choices are a bit too pretty for the role.

They just need Diego Luna as snape
Some of these are good (Harry Melling as Snape, Jude Law as Dumbledore…but he’s a bit young) and some are SO BAD. Rachel Weisz as Unbridge. Kristin Bauer (the beautiful AMERICAN vampire from true blood) as McGonagall?!
Wtffff
Some of this was just poorly written or spoken too, which takes away credibility. “A force to not be reckoned with,” it’s a force to reckoned with. Ralph Fiennes is pronounced RAFE. Animagus has a hard G. I’m not even halfway through the video…
Edit…Florence Pugh is in her 20s.
The only right answers for Sirius Black and Remus Lupin are Ben Barnes and Andrew Garfield
Thanks for clearing that up
PLEASE JUDE LAW AS DUMBLEDORE. I won't rest until I see him as Dumbledore again.
He was so good as him in Fantastic Beasts! He’d be my top choice for Dumbledore.
Like with the Percy Jackson series, I don’t think they’ll hire any well-known names given the time commitment required for this show.
Possibly, but the original movies had some HUGE names in it. They might be some willing to do it, which would probably means they are fans of the story. Fingers crossed who ever they hire takes the roles seriously.
@@CassandraMars this was many months ago but apparently Adam Driver was a favourite for Snape. Looks-wise, he’d definitely work.
I heard that! He’d be really good at the hidden emotions Snape has too. I didn’t put him in the video though since he was talked about before, I tried to pick ones a little different, but he would be really good as Snape.
That, and I'm sure they'll race-swap characters, and force inclusivity which would be a disaster for the Show.

I think they should pick much younger actors than the characters but age them appropriately with makeup. If their character lasts ten years, they can "age up" to the character without looking odd.
Magical police are aurors, not auras.

I wouldn’t hate Tom Huddleston for Snape. He’s a bit older but could still pull off mid-30s, and he can play dark characters. The only issue is that he’d likely fall into an Alan Rickman impression, which isn’t the point of the series (though could be a great homage to Rickman).
Great choice but I think Hiddleston has been trying to avoid typecast as antagonists. Honestly I think he'd be great for Lupin.
@@osmanyousif7849 I agree, he could be great as Lupin.
I think the best actor for Snape is without question Adam Driver.
I think Matvey Lykov looks like the perfect Snape and he is around the same age and has played antagonists before but unfortunately he isn’t British.
Adam Driver as Snape
Why recast so many Harry Potter actors in new roles?!?!
Just for fun. Odds are there won’t be any recast in new roles. MAYBE one or two might be cast in a small role as an Easter Egg.
@@CassandraMars. I think your choice of Harry Melling for Snape is inspired. He could really smash that role. He has been working with some top quality actors in several movies. What about Nick Frost, with a bit of CG to make him taller?

@@SandraS1397 I know but I would still love to see her as McGonagall.
@@SandraS1397 I said maybe about Brannagh for the first one because I'm not sure I can see him in that role.
Slighorn needs to look like the book describes him. Kinda like a frog.
Daniel Radcliffe should guest star as james potter. How's it??
I'm really not trying to be that guy, but there are so many mispronounced names of characters and actors in this video. Please do your research before presenting, it's very distracting.
I’m not great at speeches. I get nervous and stumble and mispronounce things. If there’s a typo in my writing, I’m reading it ( Gerard not Gerald ) I’m very new at all of this and appreciate the honest feedback.
I think it was an official news that old actors from the films wouldn't come back to the series tho
Ah never say never. HBO and WB won’t want to break the illusion of creating a new world with already seen faces, BUT it’s been done it before with other remakes and reboots so there is always that hopeful wishing feeling it could happen.
Which is good. Screw Rupert, Emma and Daniel. Disloyal little shits
I need Henry Cavill as Lucius Malfoy
Ooohhhh yes please!
435. Points. Julie. 😊🎉❤gryffindor. Hogwarts house.
There's a theory that Filch s a poltergeist that is the opposite of Peeves.
I love SuperCarlinBrothers theory on that! One day I hope to grow this channel to the point where maybe I can collaborate a video with them. Maybe in a few years I’ll look at this comment and say I finally did it 😁
I wonder if their gonna use new set pieces?
I had the same thought. It would make sense to use the same because it’s still kinda set up for tours, but if they do change will the studio tour be taken down
@@CassandraMars i actually went last week for a second time, was amazing
@sonicfreak04 I’m so jealous, I hope one day to visit there
@@CassandraMars I'm sure you will, I went because they were doing a celebration for the twentieth anniversary of prisoner of azkaban and they included some new set pieces and costumes from that movie.
@sonicfreak04 I just got to get over my fear of flying first lol then one day hopefully I’ll make it there
After an already perfectly successful eight film series that's grossed well over a billion dollars . . . SOOOOOOOO many other fantasy books out there. Is this truly getting sad.
I wish they would have finished the Fantastic Beasts Series.
I am a Oncer as much as the next person but only one maybe two are at that level for HBO's tastes.
lol I was wondering if someone would notice all the characters from OUAT. I didn’t even mean to do that, they just popped into my head. It’s been years since I’ve seen the show too. Rose Reynolds’s is the only one that I’ve only seen in OUAT, the others I’ve seen in several movies or shows so even I didn’t notice until I was making a list of acting credits to mention 😂
4:26 i want him as Moody again.
He was so good in that role!
@@CassandraMars Yup, it's interesting you haven't mentioned in the video Judi Dench as an actress in the movies, I can see her as Molly Weasley or as Minerva McGonagall
She would be a great McGonagall but I think she’s retired from acting due to her health.
@@CassandraMars really? I never heard about it ☹
Ohh, I like the idea of Harry Melling as Snape.
Most of thise are film actors. Will they do T.V.?
A lot have done TV at some point, but I think there’s a big shift in to TV and streaming services. Many actors are now willing for the time, commitment, and money earned from it. Plus for many characters it’s a guaranteed paycheck for 10ish years.
Do you want us to crush on Lockhart?
😂
