I think you’re forgetting just how magical the opening sequence of Philosophers Stone is, plus then we have one of the most ICONIC scenes in the movie with all the letters bursting through every possible space, Dudley ending up behind the glass of the snake enclosure and then ending with a huge giant bursting through a door to tell Harry he’s a wizard.
That first episode is absolutely PACKED and an awesome premiere.

One big thing to remember is that the series will have more of an opportunity to expand on the bits that were only descriptive paragraphs in the book. There are numerous bits where events are just mentioned in passing, such as mishaps during lessons or various students getting up to antics. Those can fully be shown in the series.
Also, if you want to have a teaser for the second season, maybe instead of blatantly showing the diary, since there will be new viewers who don' t know the mystery, instead perhaps have a scene where only the silhouette of a figure enters a certain hidden room under their sitting room (Lucius) and moving to a bookshelf upon which sits a small, black box with only a very Death Eater looking skull on it, a gloved hand reaching for it before turning to black. Don't let those who aren't in the know yet realize it's Lucius or the diary just yet, but you know that something is afoot.

I agree. I remember in the third book Harry says something to the affect of “in no time at all Lupin’s classes had become their favourite and something about Snape seeming resentful” that’s a great opportunity to show this on screen. Show all those little moments in the first book. Like showing all the magical things Harry did as a kid. Showing us Vernon’s day at work with the random wizards. Making it so that the wizarding characters actually wear robes will be essential.

I think the key will be to flesh out some additional scenes which are briefly mentioned in the books or shown in the films. For example, with the new the last airbender show i loved the fact it starts with the battle at the air temple which is never shown in the original. Doing a similar thing showing Voldemort at his strength and going into godrics hollow would be a banger of a first episode.

Yeah I want us to see more in the past, possibly the whole 1st episode. Why people are scared to say his name, show how young lilly & James are, how much they care for Harry and doing the right thing to give him a better future, but it gets them killed. Then everything with the Dursley's, including their reaction to Harry as a good juxtaposition.
Then in second episode his reaction to them though, all his accidental magic not just at the zoo, as well as Mrs Fig, how he's supposed to be with her like always. Maybe have it that she thinks Harry chooses to come to her (like how people say kids nowadays like to just sit at home and watch stuff instead of going out) and how he's not neglected, he just doesn't have an appetite, he's not abused, he's just clumsy.

@@music2012pinkTHIS! It might be boring for some people but I literally don’t think we need to find out Harry’s a wizard until end of episode 2 if it’s done right. The wizarding world can be introduced with the celebrations of Voldemort being gone and the conversations between everyone behind the scenes with super subtle foreshadowing to POA. Vernon knows something is afoot and we end the episode with dumbledore leaving him on their doorstep. 2nd episode can be his childhood up until his 11th birthday. After that I think it’s probably pretty easy to split up episodes 3-8. This series should be 100% as much fanfare as possible while still keeping the mystery in tact for new viewers.

I think that the fact the show can expand visually on things in the book that were short descriptions would give more than enough content. Also you could just release the first couple episodes as a double release. I personally think they could make at least 8 (if not more) hour long episodes for books 1-3 and then make the seasons longer for 4-7. As long as they stayed true to the books and characters it could never be to much content.

I think that the first half of the season would be more interesting if they showed what Hermione and Ron are up to, like I'd like to see Sprout or some other teacher poorly disguised as a muggle as they explain to Hermione's parents magic is real and their kid's a witch. Imagine Sprout dressed in an 80's neon clubbing outfit knocking on their doorstep to tell them that she's a professor at a very prestigious school and she's taking their daughter up to Scotland for 7 years. Maybe we can see a Weasley scene where Arthur and the boys run into Hagrid at the owl shop as they're buying an owl for Percy because he's a prefect now and Ron gets jealous because he never has anything new. Ginny and Molly could be doing something else and they run into Hermione and her parents who are beeing scammed by a street vendor so they interfere, this could show how some wizards are towards muggleborns and how gryffindors are chivalrous and righteous, plus I'd love it if Molly casts the bat bogey hex on someone who calls Hermione a mudblood, like they wouldn't know what it means but would get it's a slur and make Hermione feel insecure about fitting in in the wizzaring world

I commented this first on your overall seasons video but I like how much our seasons match up!
    Philosopher’s stone roughly plotted out
    1. Vernon’s “normal” day, the zoo, the letters, end when Hagrid arrives at the hut on the rock
    2. Diagon alley, Hogwarts express, the sorting
    3. Potions class, tea with Hagrid, broom flying, midnight duel
    4. Troll at Halloween, quidditch, end with the Nicholas Flamel name drop
    5. Christmas/cloak/mirror of erised, finding Flamel on the card
    6. Quidditch 2, Norbert
    7. Detention in the Forrest, exams/Hagrid/Dumbledore leaves, end with Fuffy and going through the trapdoor
    8. Devil’s snare/keys/chess/potions riddle, fight with Quirrel and the mirror, hospital wing and house cup
That could probably be done with 30 minutes each at most so 4 hours total, they don’t need to stretch every season out to 10 hours of content, especially books 1-3, it can be more detailed and include more from the books than the films did without unnecessary padding

I think the issue with the Harry Potter books as a series, as compared to something like Percy Jackson, is that the books are structured like a movie, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd acts, with a big climax. Something like Percy Jackson has a series of adventures throughout the books so they can be evenly split into episodes. I think the fun of the Harry Potter series would be to see just the normal school stuff, but it does run into the problem of making individual episodes exciting for those watching this story for the first time. Because its essentially all build up. That's why I think GOF and DH will be the two best seasons, because both those books have something constantly happening throughout the story.

There are a lot of opportunity for adding scenes that don't involve Harry at all. I know the source material pretty much just follows Harry's perspective and what he's doing at any given moment. But let's see other characters interactions that don't involve Harry at all. Let's see Hermione meeting Parvarti and Lavender Brown in the girls dorm and not getting along with them. I think it'd be cool to add some Easter eggs that hint at future things too. We know Fred and George had the Marauders Map at the time of Harry's first year and were using it to sneak around using hidden passages to pull pranks. You could have a scene where Filch is chasing after them after they pull a prank on him. They turn the corner in a hallway and boom, they dissappear as Filch looks around confused. It could be like, 20 seconds, but it'd be a nice little mystery for people that don't know the story. Like, how were they able to get away like that.

    • @Alexander-vl1lg
      @Alexander-vl1lg 3 месяца назад +24

At the end of Chamber of Secrets I think it'd be cool to add a scene of Lockhart getting admitted into St. Mungos. He gets placed into his room and then the cameras pan over to the next room and you see two people, a man and a woman with the names "Frank and Alice Longbottom" on the door. That would be such a good way to end it I think. To just show that Nevilles Parents are in a ward for insane people but leave the audience guessing as to why until season 4.

I don't think I wan't any major side tangents concerning the side characters in these shows, but I agree they should put some effort into showing the main stay side characters throughout. Do some actual casting and stick to it, even if it's more expensive than calling in extras, so they classes always consists of the same people, and cast someone to be Luna starting year 2 and have her appear in some scenes, especially with Ginny, to show that Ginny is always nice to her when the Gryffindors and Ravenclaws have classes together, cast someone to be McLaggen from the start and maybe show him trying to talk to Wood some time or commenting on how the team plays so when he comes to tryout in Half-Blood everyone will be "this f-ing guy". The books can be like "Oh yeah, they are not in class together or the same house, of course they haven't seen that much of each other in the first few years" and then spend a couple of sentences telling you some of the characteristics of these new characters, but with all the material in hand this is where the show can really step up and play the long game and show us rather than telling us. Only, I don't want a whole episode focusing in "500 excellent saves by McLaggen" or "Whimsy wanderings around the castle with Luna", just small moments where it makes sense we might come across them in the periphery while still keeping focus on the golden trio.

    • @Blixthand
      @Blixthand 3 месяца назад

@@nathaniel04 TBH I forgot that they were making one. I've felt pretty dissociated with the franchise the last handfull of years. I loved the N64, Game Cube and Game Boy games, and also like Zelda 2 quite a lot, but I was underwhelmed by Skyward Sword, as many were, and I didn't really like Breath of the Wild and I didn't even finish the story of Tears of the Kingdom. I got a bit excited for the new one where you play as Zelda, feels like it could be more the the older ones, but I'm not on the edge of my seat or anything.
As for a movie I'm casually optimistic, with the right people I think they can do something good, but I'm not quite sure how they will manage to make something that does the world and the core concept of the games justice without it being too silly for the big screen or to repetitive. But we are in a pretty good age of video games becoming movies or shows, so maybe they'll pull it off. I did once a couple of years ago write an outline for how I would handle a movie (and just like with HP I don't think I'm the right person to turn it into a movie, I just have some thoughts). I think it was on a Spawn Wave video I left that comment, but I have it saved elsewhere if anyone is interested (Warning, it's quite long)
Link is a young man living in a village somewhere in Hyrule. He is in his upper teen or lower twenties and he has an adventuring mind. He spends his days in the woods talking to fairies, who don't shy him as they do other humans. He don't really have any friends, but a man who used to be a knight before he moved with his wife to the village has taught him the way of the sword.
One day when Link is out near the edge of the woods he hears a call for help and he rushes to the aid of a woman, old, but full of fight, and a young man, attacked by bokoblins. A guard of knights already lie dead around them, but Link don't hesitate to jump the creatures and save the two still alive. They introduce themselves as royal messengers, Impa and Shiek (and I mean that Sheik should actually be magiced into a boy, not just dressed as one, even if all of the target audience already know who s/he is). They were ambushed as they were running an errand for the king and back in the village they tell of the most disturbing news. Hyrule is under siege from the dessert lands to the west, an army of twisted men, fierce warrior ladies and monsters, all under the leadership of a man called Ganondorf. Now they beg any abled men to come the kings aid as he is suffering the siege at Hyrule Castle.
Later that day/night Sheik treis to sneak away, but Link catches him. Seeing as Link was the one to save him, Sheik confides in him that he think the situation can't be won by numbers in battle alone, and that he is seeking a fabled mystical force that will grant the finder special powers. He has heard that the Sheika-tribe had more information about this force, but the sheika temple is at Kakariko Village, which is also under siege, and the only way to get in is by using the secret waterways of the Zora to travel from Lake Hylia to Zoras domain, from where they can travel through the goron tunnels to Kakariko. Link insists on accompanying him and together with one of Link's special fairy friends they make their way through the forest towards Lake Hylia. Along the way I think we should introduce someone to be Ganondorf's right hand. A Naboru type character, but evil, that Link and Sheik will have several run-ins with throughout the story.
Something might happen along the way, but either way, they make it to Lake Hyla, where the Zora are bussy arranging their own defense against the invading forces. They meet with the Zora princess or queen that is herself part of the battles, and she is not convinced that Link and Shiek are to be trusted to their secret waterways, but is thankful for all the help she can get. We get some fight scenes, some monsters, and just as the fight seems over and won, Dark Naboru shows up and stabs the Zora queen fatally. Link fights DN off, but can't kill her before she escapes, and Sheik tries to heal queen Zora with the help of the fairy, but is ultimately unsuccessful. Finally trusting them, the queens final order is that they should get safe passage to Zoras Domain, and Link and Shiek travel with the funeral boat to the Domain and Link starts having doubts about his abilities and his place in all this.
They travel from the Domain to Death Mountain, through some tunnels where some cool shit could happen, and reach Goron City, where all the warriors has already dispatched, either to go help Kakariko Village, or to fight of the monsters coming over the mountains. They learn here that Kakariko is the last base for the resistance in northern/eastern Hyrule and that Ganondorf has taken hyrule Castle and holds the king captive, or maybe has killed him already, though no public execution has been held and they think he wants to wait until he has a firmer grip on the lands nearest to the castle. Dark Naboru shows up again and she is pissed Link managed to drive her on the run last time. Since then she's been back with Ganondorf and gotten a powerboost and she has now awoken a giant Dodongo to siege the Goron City with. Link and Shiek join the fight, Link somewhat reluctantly, because he is still insecure and he knows he hardly defeated Naboru last time and don't think he can do it this time. But links fairy friend remembers a hidden fairy spring near Goron city, if they can just find it in time. Some puzzle solving later and we meet the/a great fairy, who gives them the power to defeat the Dodongo and gives Link the pep talk of the century to boost his confidence and this time he truly defeats Dark Naboru.
Now eager to continue the search for the mystical power Sheik's been talking about the entire movie, Link takes the lead to Kakariko, where a temporary calm has settled after the defeat of Dark Naboru. They head into the old Sheika tempel and here we get the full tempel experience, until we reach the end where... no, this can't be right. It's just a secret passageway to the tempel of time. What a waste. Sheik is ruined, he could have entered the tempel any time, he had the keys, but there is nothing there except the master sword, and they can't use it, they don't have the power. He now reveals who he truly is and tells the story of the Master Sword and the Triforce. But before they can decide what to do now, Ganondorf's henchmen come bursting in. He felt the magic when Sheik changed back to Zelda and now they've come to take her away. A nice double royal execution in the morning to subdue the last resistance, and a piece of the Triforce for him as a bonus. Link tries to fight them off, but they are too many. having slain a dozen or more Ganondorf's servant finally manage to lock him in the tempel of time, wounded and with his sword broken. His fairy friend uses the last of her powers to heal his wounds, and in the dying light of her magic body he reaches for the Master Sword. As he does the room fills with light and the sword comes loose from it's piedestal. All he has done, fought alongside men, zora and goron and making the journey throrugh the Sheika tempel has made him worthy to wield the Triforce of courage and the Master Sword. He is now the lonely hero, chosen by the gods, but he is now prepared to be.
He heads back to Kakariko through the tempel and rallies every last resistance fighter for a counter siege on the castle, a last epic battle, during which Link makes his way to Ganondorf's tower, whit a smaller and smaller force behind him, until everyone else is fighting elsewhere and he stands alone against the king of Evil. One epic battle later he slays Ganondorf and saves Zelda, or so it would seem, but the dark spirits of Ganondorf take new shape, but just as Link was given the Master Sword, Zelda too was given a gift from the gods, the magical Light Arrows, and their power combined with the Master Swords is enough to finally seal the spirits away.

Show Luna getting sorted, students hiding her things and her walking around barefoot, interacting with thestrals earlier and just being in the background from CoS to GoF so that by the time OoP starts we are wondering what is that quirky Ravenclaw's background. I feel like the series will fill in the gaps that the movies left out, and a bit more. Like, if JKR is truly on board, maybe she could put stuff in that she wished she could've done with the books and movies. Or maybe she could think new stuff up that wouldn't directly impact the books or movies main plot.

Yeah, I hope the show just fills in the blanks from the films rather than remake them. They’re perfect films, and I think the show could follow an anthology format where it follows different characters or each episode is a chapter that was cut from the films. This way the films and shows can be complementary.

Well, books 1 to 3 not being ideal for TV show is something we well have to deal with as they cannot start from book 4. And there's plenty of day to day things that are only alluded to in the books but could help with fleshing out the world and characters. I was raised on TV shows with 22+ episodes and I am convinced that filler episodes were important to building a rapport with the characters. We have to care about them, not just the bigger mistery. Those first seasons could be instrumental in creating the world we care about in later seasons when there is too much going on to have fillers. Making books 1 and 2 into season 1 could work too if the first half would air in the autumn and second half in the spring (holiday episodes do not have to line up). And for season 2 they could make a Ginny POV episode that would air after the main mystery is solved - in place of or in conjunction with Dumbledore's full explanation. Like, they end one episode with them leaving CoS and the next episode starts with Ginny POV, and we follow her until the present point, after which she goes to the hospital wing and Albus fills in the gaps for Harry. And for book 3 they could include Marauder flashbacks that come as we find out more from the canon - but they can be both interesting from character perspective and vague enough to not spoil the ending. And we can see flashbacks of scenes as they are being told. And they can stop and start as the story unfolds. We can see James and Sirius together while leaving open the option that Sirius is a traitor until we see Sirius arrive in Godric's Hollow and lend Hagrid his bike (going full circle with the beginning of season 1/book 1). Confrontation of Peter and Sirius can be shown in both versions, etc.
I can also see them expanding Draco Malfoy to show the other side of the coin and make us care more when he's desperate because we see how he got there.

They slowed it down to a snails pace and the amount of times that his pen turned into a sword off screen with just some sound effects actually made the budget issues way more painfully obvious than just bad CGI. I hope this reboot doesn't make the same mistakes just to give us more unwatchable episodes we don't want.

100% what I was thinking. She was even cast as executive producer (the only one who should be, as it's her stories. Shut up, the "Rowling is evil/a bigot" mob). She knows all the details (even stuff she left out) and can add little stuff to help flesh out the world. Though, I hope she doesn't include the "Black Hermione" or the Harmione shipping stuff. She was said (and shown on the cover art) to be white in the books (it was mentioned, Rowling). And the Harry/Hermione thing speaks for itself, Romione & Hinny are canon (and 10x better than any other pairings IMO).
We need to be 100% faithful to all aspects of the books, that's what we've wanted for years.

You make many good points, but I think the format of the first two seasons will be fewer episodes with shorter runtimes. 6×30-40 min episodes is more likely, I think. Maybe 7 episodes (as it is the most powerful magical number).
Ep. 1 - Everything up until "Yer a wizard"
Ep. 2 - Diagon Alley to arrival at Hogwarts and sorting
Ep. 3 - First lessons, troll in the dungeons and quidditch (the match is really hard to place, but I think they will want Christmas as its own episode)
Ep. 4 - Christmas and Erised
Ep. 5 - Quidditch against Hufflepuff and Norbert
Ep. 6 - The Forbidden Forest until decision to go after Snape
Ep. 7 - Trials for the stone and ending. No post credit scene. The plot won't draw anyone into season 2, only the quality of the show.
I think they must be prepared for scathing reviews of the first three seasons, as critics hate seeing something they've seen before, and they'll just be doing the same thing with inferior actors. If they're not prepared to push through until Goblet of Fire without minding the critics and fan backlash, then the show will be cancelled before reaching the interesting bits.

The good thing about modern series productions, is that they don`t have to think about "only 22 or 42 minutes chapters, with minicliffhanger for the comercial brakes in 13 or 24 chapter seasons". No, they can do a first season of 6 chapters around 25 minutes each season, and end with one hour or more in each one 18 chapters in the final season.
So, they have the freedom to do a adecuate season for each book.
Saying this, I think you forgot to tell that the first chapters have to have driplets of information important to the mystery that is developtment behind the scene.
I`m more about give us scenes that could happen in the books but JK could`nt show us. Make something new, but logical, to the fans that know so well the story that, to me, must be the mayority of the audience.

I left a comment on your rating seasons video on how I might break up book 1 into 8. I'll just copy paste that here, as it seems to fit better. I've also never written for TV and think it will be very stretched and might not work in all places, but just as a base for how I would expect it to be broken up in they are not adding or changing too much. Also, I'm probably in the minority, but the movies kinda burned their ties with me as the series goes on. I've only watched all 8 movies a handfull of times in the almsot 15 years since they've all been out, I think the last time I watched them all was like 2020 or 2021, I'm just not very invested in them or nostalgic for them, so I am very interested in see them change things up, get new cast, get a new look and all that, as long as they stay true to the books.
Anyway, here is my season 1, it seems we've been thinking quite similar
Episode one: The Boy who Lived or The Vanishg Glass - Going from the begging until either the moment Hagrid starts banning the door, or more likely, when they go to sleep after Hagrid tells him he's a Wizard.
Episode two: Dragon Alley - Showing everything Dragon Alley and the train Ride and the sorting, ending as Harry falls asleep his first night at Hogwarts.
Episode three: Hogwarts - Showing Harrys early time at Hogwarts, exploring lessons and introducing flying and Quidditch, but also putting emphasis on Harry and Ron visiting Hagrid and finding out about the Grongotts break in, so we feel something is driving the story along.
Episode four: Midnight Duel or Halloween - Showing Malfoy tricking Harry and Ron out of bed and that whole adventure, including Fluffy, and going all the way to Halloween, ending with them beating the troll and making friends with Hermione.
(note not in my original comment: I was thinking about having the midnight duel in episode 3 like you did in your breakdown, but ultimately I though them defeating the troll was too good of an episode ender to have it be the middle of an episode followed by Quidditch, so my episode 3 became very stretched so that I could have the midnight duel and the troll fight in the same episode, and in stead start the next one with quidditch, as the troll will definitely not fill an entire episode itself).
Episode five: Nicolas Flamel or The Mirror of Erised - Showing the first Quidditch game and the kids finding out about Nicolas Flamel and Everything that happens around Christmas including the mirror.
Episode six: Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback - Showing everything to do with the dragon and getting rid of him. Also the second Quidditch game with Snape refereeing and Snape and Quirell talking afterwards.
Episode seven: The Forbidden Forest - Showing the aftermath of Harry being caught out of bed and everything in the forest and maybe showing them going down the trap door. It's a hard one, I don't think the Forest will fill a whole episode by it self, but also don't think the everything from going down the trap door to the end will take more than 1 episode.
Episode eight: Through the trap door or The Man with 2 faces - Everything from leaving off until the end.
I'm not sure any of these epodes would fill a whole hour, if we assume hour length episodes, and this is already stretching it pretty far to get 8 full episodes, but I could see a similar breakdown to this might work. You might get away with shifting some event around showing some things that happen later in the book earlier or vice verse, for a better flow, but you can't do too much of that.

I would love this as an opening scene for the pilot -
The camera tracks an owl as it ducks and weaves through storm cloud, a scroll clamped in its feet. Upon the scroll is a wax stamp embellished with Ministry of Magic's logo.
The owl swoops down towards the silhouette of Hogwarts and into the owlery. An employee of Hogwarts (perhaps Filch?) takes the scroll and races through the halls of Hogwarts to Dumbledore's office. Dumbledore reads it, hands gripping the parchment. He tells Filch to wake McGonnogal and Hagrid.
We cut to Filch knocking on Minerva's door in the faculty tower, then on the door of the grounds keeper's cabin. Dumbledore, Minerva and Hagrid meet in the entrance courtyard. He gives them instructions in hushed whispers. Behind them Snape appears, watching the conversation. We see him hold onto a stone ledge for support as the realisation hits him: Lily's dead.
Hagrid and McGonagall disband. It cuts to Minerva exiting the school gates and turning into a cat, Hagrid shooting off on his motorbike. Dumbledore turns to Snape, says something cryptic like - "The Dark Lord has fallen. Only the boy has survived." Snape nods, stoic, trying to hide his emotions.
Dumbledore strolls back into the castle, muttering that there is still work to do. Snape collapses onto a bench. The camera pans out of the courtyard, away from Hogwarts into the clouds. Hagrid whizzes by on Sirius's bike, before cutting to the opening credits.
That way we get a sense of magic, mystery and anticipation before meeting the Durlseys and seeing Vernon's work day unfold. Paired with mysterious, magical music - chef's kiss.

    • @buchbummelant8980
      @buchbummelant8980 Месяц назад +1

There are two problems with your idea of an opening scene. McGonagall was waiting for Dumbledore at Privet Drive because she wanted to talk to him (so she hadn't prior to finding out about James and Lily, because she re-calls all the rumors she heard and which she needed to verify by speaking to Dumbledore), and Snape isn't at Hogwarts yet. They talk in Dumbledore's office about their deaths and to me it seems like Dumbledore already had a look at Harry's scar and knew something was up. So after Snape found out, he entered Hogwarts to confront Dumbledore.
So: I'd actually like to have the first episode from McGonagalls perspective. Her finding out about all those rumors, trying to talk to Dumbledore, but him not being there. Finally getting an idea where he might be headed (how did she know about the Dursleys?) and then waiting there, introducing the Dursleys, following them, until they go to bed and we return to McGonagall and finally - meeting Dumbledore and finding out what really happened. That way we won't get any spoilers, even though they should already film the ones we need (like Snape's whole backstory, every single scene that's necessary for the flashbacks).
I'd also like to have more transitions between scenes and different characters. Harry finally getting the letter by Hagrid and finding out that he's a wizard. Cut to Hermione who just found out the same thing, and all the questions she and her parents have. Another glimpse to the letter, then we meet Ron who gets his letter, and we get the chaos of the Burrow during the summer and a "typcial" magical family and how easy it is for them. We return to Harry and Hagrid, who start their journey to Diagon Alley and there we cut to all the Weasleys doing their shopping, stumpling upon the Granger's, then the owls, cut back to Hagrid bringing Harry Hedwig. We could follow all of them, making it a whole experience without the need to spoil the mysteries.

Before watching this, my idea for making this a more fit for TV story is to explore some other storylines. Nothing too crazy, but getting to see more of the general Wizarding World would be great. Especially early on. Fred and George are probably the simplest option. Just following them a bit and seeing them get up to their antics. But you could also explore Ginny, Luna, Neville, and some of the other characters more than the books do. You could also explore Dumbledore more. I'm a big proponent of the idea that Dumbledore is way more involved in Harry's experience at school than is ever explicitly stated. Seeing what hes getting up to behind the scenes would be amazing. That would also make sense later on, as Dumbledore and eventually the Order of the Phoenix become more intertwined with Harry's life.
Another option would be a simple one. Make the first seasons shorter. I know that typically seasons stay around 8 to 12 episodes, but a Harry Potter show should be given the leeway to tweak season lengths. Make seasons 1 2 and 3 only like 5 episodes each. Each season gets longer as the books get longer.

Why do avid readers not understand that books are a MEDIUM just like movies and TV shows? I hope the series is NOT like the book or movie. If it is just going to be the book and movie then why do it? If the producers are smart, they’ll lean into the strengths of storytelling that can only be done with TV shows…. And that may require expanding the plot or characters in a way that is NOT in the book or movie. For example, maybe we spend time with Hermione or Ron before Hogwarts and learn about what motivates them to form a relationship with Harry. Maybe we get a glimpse of Dumbledore being in a relationship with someone… or dare I suggest that perhaps characters in OTHER books get introduced early like Dolores Umbridge doing a quick (school inspection) for an episode. The worst thing for the imagination is to NOT THINK OUTSIDE A BOX.

Meeting Ron and Hermione in episode 2 and then then going from disliking Hermione in episode 3 to becoming friends by episode 4 would feel rushed imo.

I think the show would do good in earlier seasons if they fleshed out the backgrounds of characters. they don’t necessarily have to do this with one singular episode, I’d say more like the flashbacks in lost

I think one interesting idea would be to intersperse each season with flashbacks to the current DADA teacher's past. But it would have to be done very creatively, revealing only things that can be revealed at that point and foreshadowing upcoming plot twists. I already have some ideas for Quirrel's flashbacks but... I'm not the writer, alas

If the TV series don't expand on the books, it's completely pointless.
First episode must be a prequel to the story, ENDING with Harry being delivery. It must be about the Wizarding War and Voldemort's downfall at the Potter's.

They shouldn't because we are supposed to discover along the way in our joruney (as harry did) that there was a Wizarding war long ago. Showing this upfront would defeat the purpose of Hagrid telling his tales to Harry.....and it would render Hagrid's stories as redundant as we already seen and discovered this in the first scene.
There are other things they can do to draw it out yet not ruin our journey of surprise...strech out Harrys abuse by Dursleys.....elaborate on Petunias disdain for Harrys parents. Show flashbacks in an effort to expand - of what transpired only when Hagrid begins retelling history to Harry.

Personally I’d make the first episode follow James and Lily in hiding, maybe show Sirius too and a little bit of Peter. Then have Peter tell Voldemort the location of where they’re hiding, but don’t show it to be Peter, make it ambiguous, then have the attack on the Potter’s, Lily’s sacrifice, and then Voldemort trying to kill Harry but the spell backfiring. Then have Harry be discovered by Hagrid. Have Hagrid being Harry to Privet drive and end the episode with him being left of the door step. Ep 2 picks up 11 years later.

Bathilda Bagshot coming by to visit the young Potters, Harry's first Christmas with Lily writing, and sending, the letter to Sirius, and James annoyed at Dumbledore for having the cloak & not being able to leave the house...a lot of material that was mentioned in throughout the books, specifically Deathly Hallows, can be shown in episode one and come full circle later on. Like Bathilda was briefly mentioned in the movies as the Histoy of Magic book author prior to her scene in Deathly Hallows, but the build up to her appearance wasn't great. The TV series can flesh out from episode one that she is important to Godrics Hallow and every one who lived there (like the Dumbledores).

Harry learning that Sirius and James were friends isn’t that major of a twist, as it comes about mid way through the season. You don’t even have to mention that he’s Harry’s godfather if you want to keep that aspect of things. Other than that it’s all just basic information that you find out in the first book

Like how does Harry taking Draco's original wand make Harry the master of the Elder wand?

I definately believe that even in the earlier books, there’s more than enough source material for full 8-10 episode seasons. In TV-shows they don’t necessarily need to significantly advance the actual plot in every episode but can rather use few episodes here and there to just build characters and their relationships.

    Here's my breakdown:
    - Ep 1 (Introduction + Inciting Incident) -- The Boy Who Lived; The Vanishing Glass; The Letters from No One -- End with Hagrid knocking on the hut door.
    - Ep 2 (End of Act 1) -- The Keeper of the Keys; Diagon Alley; The Journey from Platform Nine and Three-Quarters -- End with them arriving at Hogwarts, seeing the castle for the first time.
    - Ep 3 (Raising Action) -- The Sorting Hat; The Potions Master -- Life at Hogwarts, lessons, etc.
    - Ep 4 (Raising Action + Complication) -- Midnight Duel; Hallowe'en -- The midpoint.
    - Ep 5 (Raising Action) -- Quidditch; The Mirror of Erised
    - Ep 6 (Raising Action) -- Nicholas Flamel; Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback
    - Ep 7 (Raising Action + Climax) -- The Forbidden Forest; Through the Trapdoor -- End with the revelation that Quirrell is the one after the stone
    - Ep 8 (Denoumont) -- The Man with the Two Faces -- The confrontation, aftermath, end of the year, etc.
Note: This is a rough breakdown. The idea is to keep the main story beats (3/5 act story structure) aligned with the episodes, while giving the key episodes a cliffhanger/hook for the next episode. This is also the same sort of structure I would keep throughout the series.

Open with voldemort killing Harry's parents cut to an establishing pan shot of the castle that then hones through a window into the tower where the quill and book are kept show Harry's name being written then title sequence and carry on as you described. This establishes the villain, shows the castle and creates a sense of intrigue whilst pulling on canon (the book and quill) that's never been shown in a visual medium outside of HL. Also incorporates magic earlier on via the killing curse and lovecrux

My personal ideas for episodes (for season 1) (Will edit it to include more later)
    S1E1: The Boy Who Lived
The episode begins with a mysterious flashing green light. (Revealed to be the Voldemort murder flashback later on in the season)
The rest of the episode is basically just the entirety of the first chapter with Vernon's day, though occasionally he notices many strange wizard stuff.
Later, he heads home and informs Petunia of the wizards who were about The Potters. They have their normal discussion.
Vernon and Petunia goes up the stairs to put Dudley to bed, while the camera zooms out through the window, to show the street sign.
A mysterious man approaches, being revealed to be Dumbledore.
The scene goes on as usual.
The camera zooms in on Harry, then out into the sky, playing the iconic theme song.
S2E2: The Letters from no one
Covers the book until The Keeper of The Keys.
Towards the end, Harry writes his birthday cake in the extreme dust of the room, when the dust is suddenly blown away by the noise of someone (Hagrid) attempting to break down the door. The camera focuses on the door. Eventually, the door collapses, the lightning outside strikes down and shows the sillhouette of Hagrid, and the episode ends.
    S1E3: The Keeper of Keys
basically entire book until Chapter 6. the boat scene is extended.
    S1E4: The Hogwarts express
One month later, Harry goes to kings cross.
Harry boarding the Hogwarts Express, Inviting Ron to his cart, and the camera shows the outside of the express as it drives through the scottish highlands.
Entire episode is focused on the train ride.
The Episode ends as it zooms out of the train and shows the train approaching Hogwarts. An orchestral version of the main theme plays.
These episodes would release at the same time as a season premiere.
    (more later)

It is not important how long the season is, if the philosopher stone takes 4-6 episodes to complete then do that. And if goblet of fire takes 18 episodes it does not really matter. The show is to include everything from the books. To start to add a lot of new plot holes and show us what quirrel, barty crouch and voldemort is doing is just ruining the plot. We are not supposed to know because we see the show from harry’s perspective.

I think it would be better for the first and second seasons to be short seasons, not only to keep just the book events and not add extra stuff just to fill stuff, but also to save money for the future seasons. That way, future seasons could get longer or get more episodes, and also have more money for the cooler stuff that happens in the latter books so they don't cut much stuff out of the latter of the story for budget reasons.

One thing I would hope they do in this, is to add more nuance between the houses. Slytherins are not *all* bad, and Gryffindors can be real a-holes sometimes. Maybe make it so that Gryffs and Slyths are on opposite sides and Puffs and Claws are on opposite sides, kinda like fire vs water and air vs earth.
Though, to be fair this would be more towards book 3-7, when it "gets complicated".
Also, yeah, some quick scenes with the Weasleys and Grangers pre-express would be *really* nice, as well as an earlier introduction of Luna (though to be fair, she and neville doesn't have time to shine until earliest book 4 - Neville, however, could get a bit more screen time to make up for that later, kinda like that third friend that always make you feel great but you feel bad you can't hang around with more?)

I'll die on this hill: a TV series should be animated. It'd be so cool!
And they can make them half hour or 40 minute episodes.
Anime is the way to go! And it'll make it different than live action movies, get a variety of talent to join, and make it easier to "recast" if needed.
Besdies that, I do love your plot and episode ideas!

Another interesting idea is since the actors for the main cast are gonna be so young and JK wanted the books to grow with the audience is if they took the first 2 seasons and made them half hour episodes for the younger audience, that way you don’t run into pacing problems and in the third season break into the 1 hour episode time point.

About hooking the audience for the next season. I believe what the first book is for many people is an introduction to the world, characters, vibe, aesthetic etc. and that it should be enough for people to want to watch what happens with the characters and how they will continue developing in the next year. I mean, the first book didn’t have a major cliffhanger but people still loved it and wanted to read more because of a fascinating world and so on. Instead of surrendering/adapting it to the standard/cliche “Netflix series” cliffhanger setup/structure.

But also, the episodes don’t HAVE to be an hour long. Looking at Last Of Us, the episodes ranged from around 40 to 80 minutes. Those were outliers, sure, but if HBO is going to give that sort of creative control to the showrunners, the epsiodes could be paced to exactly as long as they need to be

    In my opinion:
    1) A two-episodes premiere, with ep1 as you described and ep2 ends with Harry already started his Hogwarts life (plus a brie scene to tease the stone being the main plot)
    2) Then an episode for Hogwarts life, Quidditch, Halloween, Forbidden forest, finale…..that’s already way beyond 6 episodes. And I believe I have still left out something.
    3) No need for post credit scene for s1-2 if the stories are not required to have one. People will come back for the Harry Potter IP alone.
    4) For post credits in later scenes, some ideas:
season 3- ends with Worm tail finding Voldemort in a forest
season 4- Snape shows up for Voldemort after his rebirth, this will help solidify audience mistrust of him in later seasons. as did Harry throughout book 5 and 6.
