      I AGREE with you that BMWs really do have a FUN, SPORTY, & STYLISH look that make them hard to settle for the other "reliable" cars, such as Toyotas!! Don't get me wrong, I do agree that some of the cars that are called "reliable" are that, yet they are just not as fun & comfortable to drive. I think doing regular maintenance (before the manufacturers required miles, such as doing oil changes before 10k miles) is one of the ways to ensure one's BMW lasts. And it doesn't have expensive repair costs due to going too long without maintenance!!

  • @ericgilchrist
    @ericgilchrist Год назад +20

    I have a 2006 330i with over 200k miles on it and it runs perfectly! I haven't done much more maintenance than you'd have to do on a Honda of that age and mileage. (I've owned several Hondas.) Just take care of it! I also have a 2011 535i and every time I drive it I can't believe how fortunate I am too drive such a fun vehicle! Marvelous automobiles!
    But I'm grateful for all the people talking crap about BMW because it keeps the used car prices way down! Thank you!!!

    • @-gordon3817
      @-gordon3817 Месяц назад

      @@romeoromero808What have you done for maintenance that made your car go over 200k miles? It's fantastic to know that BMWs can go above 100k miles without major issues, as people like this RUclipsr have a tendency of claiming that they're unreliable. And they can't go above 100k or 200k without major issues on a regular basis.
      I still think it's about how you care for the car, esp. by doing your oil changes sooner than the 10k miles promoted by the dealer. Just like the Japanese cars, I do my oil changes at 6k to 7k miles to ensure the car's engine stays healthy. I think that's the biggest factor for most BMWs having issues. It's like taking care of our bodies, as one wouldn't wait 10 days to shower, etc. So, it's unwise to wait 10k miles to do an oil change when all kinds of junk is going to build up & hurt the car!

    I owned 3 BMWS and 2 Camrys and I learned that the German engineering is you have to do and follow the all manufacture requirements like doing certain maintenance at certain mileage or replace certain part at certain time no matter how expensive it is you have to do all that no matter how expensive it is unlike Japanese engineering it’s designed to benefit the public and how the car still runs in it’s worst conditions ever because you might not be close to home or a repair shop near … but the ride and the performance in bmw is a lot better than Toyota by a lot but of course everything comes with a price .

Valve cover gasket leak, vacuum line, plus new brake pads and rotors (carbon ceramic brakes need both at the same time) were absolutely not cheap. The staggered tires won't be cheap to replace either, and it drinks premium fuel faster than I thought it would. Fortunately my car is a 2015 so it doesn't have timing chain issues, and the previous owner (my dad) properly maintained it. I've spent more on maintenance and operation than any other car. If it wasn't a convertible with amazing handling, I would have gotten something like a Honda or Toyota. It's just too fun to drive.

    I recently drove it down to Lanzarote Canary Islands 🇮🇨 from Ireland 🇮🇪. 4 days it took . Two overnight cruise ferries. 12 hrs driving . It was crammed with luggage and equipment . Full roof box. Myself my fiancé and my dog .
    We spent 9 weeks down there . I did my PADI Divemaster course . Then before we journeyed back to Ireland I had it serviced and checked on the island - €125 including a diagnostic . The drive home was great and I’m still driving it . One of the injectors was a little bit growly when cold so I added some injector cleaner fluid to a full tank of petrol . Much better . 115,000 km on the clock . It still has a lot of power and sticks to the roads . If you don’t like BMW - don’t buy one . But stop wining like little bitches about them please ! It’s embarrassing. 😂

    I had a made-to-order 2013 335i convertible.
    During its manufacturer’s warranty period, it set back BMW $26,000 according to my service department.
    I bought a 3-year extended warranty after that for $3300. Within 6 months the roof jammed halfway up. The cost to BMW insurance? Over $6000.
    In the ensuing years I forked over thousands in unforeseen failures. A good example is that when the front passenger seat’s seatbelt indicator failed, it required a major repair costing $1200 to replace the sensor. A new seat panel was required.
    (Before this car I had a MINI S, a BMW product that was similarly problematic.)

    Typical BMW. In reality, a money pit. People buy that junk for a status symbol. Buffy and Skip don't care about money, it's more important to keep up with the Joneses down the hill. My brother had one and it ended up with a busted piston. Fortunately for him he's mechanically inclined, and able to do the labor himself. Still, the parts were costly. Heaven help my brother if he had to take it to a mechanic! He sold it after it was fixed, and ended up buying a Toyota truck instead. LOL!
