Hendrix had all the bases and 'cred' covered.
All that time playing with and being in those pre experience bands, Little Richard, Wilson Pickett (much more).
Worshipping Muddy, Buddy Guy etc and learning from them.
    Then there's the guitar brilliance.
The British guys had MONSTER respect for Hendrix right from the word go.

The timing and precision of him playing that intro is amazing. Was this before or after Monterey? This is the tune opened with there.

Hendrix once asked Cream if he could sit in....Gutsy move wouldn't you say ? Rumors over the years state this was the tune he played that night and Clapton was blown away.....I can see why ...Other worldly !

Absolutely right. Chas Chandler , ahem, told me the story when I interviewed him once for BBC.

Gutsy because he was just a novice at the time.

@@rtee48 He was a novice in the marketplace but he obviously didn't play like one or Ginger Baker would likely have "helped" him off the stage. Lol

@@lifetimes2983Yes, I wanted to make your "gutsy" point. I know he cut his teeth in "The Chitlin Circuit" and the NY club scene. I guess what I was getting at, he was a relative unknown to THEM as an established group with the revered guitar player, Clapton.

    He’s no John Mayer.

I think Jimi might have liked Al DiTo. Just saying.

It would have been something had Jimi lived another 4 or 69 years to see the rock jazz fusion seen open Up !!
