Omg. Lol. That lady in the background during the slingshot ride.... "HELL NO!!"
Alfred E Newman was Mad Magazine's mascot. It dates from the 50s, long before Mad TV in the 90s.
That's new jersey for you. It's a weird place unto its own.
Happy 4th of July everyone who is seeing this, stay safe using fireworks! ❤🤍💙🎉
I hate fireworks (not a fan of the noise), and I'm unfortunately stuck at home alone, but I hope you have a good one!
Anyone who celebrates the 4* of July should be given life in prison along with every RepubliKlan and conservative in existence
Thanks for the tour! I'm so happy the AC Ripley's is preserved in this video, it brought back so many memories and now that it is closed it is nice to have this for posterity.
Come up to Asbury Park! There's a pinball museum and The Stone Pony
Don't forget the paranormal bookstore
I love Silverball so much
@@docnecrotic good call!
Yes!! He’s gotta see the board walk and try some betty’s ice cream!
Welcome to my hometown! I love how our traffic and gas stations confuse you 😂😂😂
Some parts of PA are like that too with the no left turns. You always gotta go right to go left.
I lived 20 mins from this museum for 25 years and never went inside. Thank u for showing me now I don’t have to go in lol
Lol I thought I was the only one to think that! NJ traffic is extremely weird and the gas stations are weird too hahaha! It was so weird having someone come up to us. I was locking my car doors until he said I’m here to pump your gas😳 Maybe I’ve watched too many crime shows but I was definitely thrown off
23:16 Oh my golly gosh! I know all about Vlad the Impaler!
Nobody pumps my gas but me or my passenger!
Its not that bad. You dont have to get out when its cold and it helps keeps gas stations safer. I live in NJ and have my whole life. Its a nice way to provide jobs and most places aren't THAT strict about you pumping it yourselves.
My gas tank level was broken and would shut the pump off all the time. I had to go out and stand there and pump my own gas. I've never been harassed or bothered. But I do talk to them and give them my card and they put in my amount for me.
Its nice on cold days. You dont have to get out of the car. And sometimes they will wash your windows for you. But thats rare these days. Usually thats the smaller local stations.
New Jersey native here! I always go straight to the right lane when I’m making a left on a major highway- it’s how I learned to drive lol! Also, I have no clue how to pump my own gas, and I really appreciate the gas pumpers when winter hits lol- I never have to leave the car! I’m also on the coast, so I’m glad you got to see the shore! Of course you can’t see the most beautiful parts in the tourist places, but the dingy beaches from Atlantic City through seaside heights give you the most “jersey shore” experience. Hope you got some fried Oreos or zepoles while you were there- super tasty!! This state is super wacky but was super fun to grow up in- I wouldn’t trade that for the world!
3:14 Heh, welcome to NJ! This is a "normal Tuesday" for me. 🙂
early bird catches carpetbagger's new video
He said Monique is a singer, I’m dead😂☠️
I was waiting for someone else to mention it. Lmao
ugh!!! Right. Like, Dude. If you don't know who someone is... say that.
Cop sirens the minute you arrive lol. Yep, you're in Atlantic City, alright!
Hahahaha im used to it from living here my whole life. We dont pump our own Gas and we have Jug handles!! I wish i could of met u while u were here, we have some very gorgeous areas of NJ,.North Jersey is absolutely beautiful.
I love how around 7:27 u hear people say hell no the u hear there ain't no way.then I'm dying just watching this 😂🤣🎢🎡🎠🍦
I have been going to Atlantic city for over 9 years and i have walked pass this place many times. I love going to Bally's.
Their Wolpertinger is absolutely adorable!
I want one
I rode a double decker carousel on the Kemah boardwalk in Texas. It was really cool being that far up. Especially with the checkerboard floor on the boardwalk itself.
Welcome to my home town!
Raleigh's head was embalmed and sent to his wife. His body was entombed at St. Margret's Church in Winchester, England. She carried his head in a velvet bag most of the time until she died. After her death they interred the head at St. Margret's. The capital of the state that both Jacob and I live is, of course, Raleigh NC.
I don’t know why more ppl don’t do that
@@judethaddeus9856 How do you know they don't? (Insert evil laugh)
@@RedneckTaZ LOL…. I was hoping to be the one to bring it back into fashion
I live in NJ and can confirm the traffic is bizarre. Have you gone through a traffic circle yet? 😉 good luck when you do. FYI we do have left turns…..just not all the time, and U-turns are prohibited. I was always told the gas attendant law was to protect gas station jobs🤷🏻♀️
I live 45 minutes north of A/C and go every few months but I have never been to Ripley"s.
When I lived in New Jersey, all retail (in my town) was closed on Sundays by law.
I live about 20 minutes from AC! I went in here a very long time ago though! Have you been in the Hard Rock Casino to view the memorabilia and celeb's belongings yet? Under the escalator you'll see one of MJ's Billie Jean gloves, John Lennon's Self Portrait drawing, Beatles collarless suits, Elvis Presley car, etc.
Back in the day, that’s the way they used to pump your gas. An attendant did it for you. They also cleaned your windshield, and checked your oil.
10:01 "Hooks are good in some situations, like if you're in a fight or trying to catch a marlin..." 😂
I haven't been there since the late 90's. Would love to go back someday.
I actually said that statute looked like Alfred E. Newman right before you said it. I got too excited. Hahaha!
Having full service gas stations provides jobs and they check fluids and windows and air in tires..I think it’s awesome..
i love this kind of shit.
You know what'd be funny. With the "photo interruption" gag if they actually were taking photos and then posted them somewhere on a screen. So they'd have this display of pictures of guests in various states of surprise thinking they're interrupting someone's photo taking.
Mama said, "life is like a box of shrunken heads".
"Space peanut". I spit my coffee across the room on that one, Jacob. Well done, sir....well done!
What a great life to be able to travel. I envy you Jacob. Thanks for allowing us, that never get anywhere, a chance to see other parts of the country.
I think the whole reason why you need someone to pump your gas in Jersey is to create more jobs lol that’s my opinion at least or what I think that’s the reason.
Yea its a union thing
@@lolmock25 What gas station has unions in NJ? None that I know of for the gas pumpers.
@@lolmock25 try again.
Its actually do to the Retail Gas Dispensing and Safety Act of 1949. Basically they thought that gas stations should be in control of highly flammable gasoline, not motorists.
Its not only for safety cause its a chemicals we trusting ppl with, but it also gives more jobs so I guess its a plus. I've lived here 9 years and honestly its nice to have someone else do it when its to cold out
Yep that’s exactly it
Jersey is brimming over with cool weird stuff! Please do more New Jersey! I’m sure you know about the magazines, Weird NJ. And don’t be weirded out by the gas!:) You enjoy going out to eat, but you could make food yourself; think about it like that. As a mom, I’ve loved that I don’t have to leave my kid in the car. I have a tendency to lock myself out!
loved weird nj show
I have the book Weird New Jersey.. also have Weird USA and Weird Maryland.. Maryland is the best, not just because I live here but because it’s a a fact
Don't forget to visit Lucy the elephant. 🐘🐘🐘
Jughandle‘s keeps the traffic moving love my state❤️
Im from right outside of Atlantic City!! So happy you came to our area of New Jersey! :)
Oh I've been there...years ago but damn that place gave me nightmares. Couldn't sleep when we got back to our hotel room
this was fun!
Love the Ripley's attractions
I live about 5 minutes from Mr Bills ! Happy 4th!
Jersey is a world of there own!
Dang I didn’t know that Oregon and New Jersey had the same law 😅 Oregon did it because the mayor got gas on him before a meeting and thought that someone else should be paid to have gas spill on them instead of on someone else’s nice clothes 🤷🏼♀️ on top of that it provides more jobs for people, also resulting in prices being a little bit more expensive tho.
NJ did it because of the 1949 Retail Gas Dispensing Act and Regulations, believing that highly flammable gasoline should be under the control of the gas stations, not motorists.
I was going to point out Oregon's similar law. Always assumed it was to pad employment as well as pad the gas retail price. Here in WA state, they do it with extreme gas taxes. They're going to part you from your $ one way or the other...
That service would not make gas more money.. gas stations already employee ppl to work, this is just one more task they will have, employees are not paid for every single tasks they do
To prevent crooks from installing card readers.
Here in Jersey, we're too awesome to pump our own gas.
I was at this Ripley's museum in August/September 2022
That Michael Jordan statue is nightmare fuel.
There’s some left turns here 😂 welcome back sir
Yay you are in my home State!!!
I love not having to pump my own gas when it’s 95 degrees out or when it’s snowing with a negative 5 windchill 😬
As a 9 year local in New Jersey, the idea of the gas station is to not only make it safer but to give more jobs to those who need them. I mean, yes its stupid that its illegal but also you stay cool/warm in your car depending on the season. I hate it here too don't worry but I'm a little mad I missed you. I'm legit all the way down at the bottom.
The gas pumping deal in Jersey is a law for safety reasons, the attendants have training to be certified. But yeah, I had the exact same experience you did, long ago my first time fueling there 😂
The muffler guy lost his muffler lol
Your videos are so cool and unique! 😃
nice one!!
Thats a cool Ripleys, its still got that old school look. Those miniatures are amazing.
Oregon has the gas rule too. Freaked me out when a guy in rural Oregon ran out screaming at me to put the nozzle down. I’m told it’s some sort of insurance issue.
Don’t feel bad Jacob this happened to me also in Jersey. 😂😂👍
We have people who pump our gas in Oregon too. I think we’re one of the two states that still do, lol. Growing up here, it took me a long time to figure out how to do it. But they tell us that it helps create jobs, so that’s why we do it (at least, that’s as far as I know)
Hey Jacob! Are you in Atlantic City? I'm there now!!😂😂😂
Atlantic City Back in the 80s had a law preventing the serving of sunny side up eggs. I don’t know if they still have it.
I live in Winslow township, shame I missed you at Mr. Bills, hope you got some food there.
I don't get what the fuss about the gas thing is, but I'm from Oregon where we're not allowed to pump our own gas, either. Thanks for another super-fun video, Jacob!
A.C. kinda looking like Camden with a boardwalk anymore.
ripleys builders: you want us to do what?
As a lifelong Jersey resident I have heard that the reason we keep full service gas is to keep prices lower and for more jobs! I refuse to apologize for jughandles though, they feel so much more intuitive to me!
Wcome back to my neck o the woods CB!
I want a Ripley’s Aquarium in Ocean City, Maryland as well as one in Atlantic City, New Jersey! I don’t want some Ripley’s Odd-itoriums, I want Ripley’s Aquariums!
Looks so much fun
Just watched the Ocean city video, as I said, I was there last month did AC too. Parked in the same parking lot as you.
I don’t want Ripley’s, I want the boardwalk!
We have one of those muffler man statutes here in Liverpool, NY at a Honda dealership.
This is actually the first Ripley's museum I ever went to, it's soo strange seeing all the exhibits I saw in person on your show! The entire time I'm watching I'm just like: "I've been there! I remember seeing that!"
Happy 4th of July carpetbagger hope you're safe and enjoying life :)
Popcorn time
I miss my home state brings back memories thanks for visiting it Jacob❤️❤️❤️
You were so close. you have to go to Vineland New Jersey and visit the palace of depression.
Welcome back to Jersey.
I rode the slingshot in Daytona 😊
That hook could come in handy if your name already happens to be Captain Hook.
I guess it ended before you were born, but for most of the 20th century gas stations all had attendants that would serve to fill your tank, check/change your oil, and clean your car windows. You did not need to get out of your vehicle and there were no mini-marts included.
Fabulous look around, thank you so much Carpetbagger 👍😊💖
haha they have a slingshot where i’m from (jolly roger at the pier in ocean city maryland) and i think this may be the year that i finally go on it with my boyfriend!!
Happy 4th Of July Jacob!
Jacob is referring to the Jug Handles on the road.
Nice video. Heading to AC tomorrow and can't wait.
wow so coolplace look like its all opening there too belive or nit too so cool ty for video happy 4th july 4 today
Keep it up jacob
thats near me!
As a New Jersey native, I can honestly say we never get used to the annoying road system.
Been here 9 years, I agree. Cause what the actual fuck are the roads
I know you don’t like NJ as you made similar comments about NJ in your prior visits to here, my home state I’ve always lived in. To me, it’s rare to have to pump gas. I’m completely comfortable letting a gas station attendant do the job for me while I rest in my car. I wish you would accept us and explore more of my wonderful most densely-populated state between NY and PA!! There are wonderful museums, parks, small and large towns and cities, and other attractions to visit.
This is so great to me. I just started watching Boardwalk Empire. I’m also a native of New Jersey too.
"OHH HELLLLL NO! NOOOOOO! AIN"T NO WAY!!" Hahahaha 😂 7:26
I’m so glad you stopped in Winslow!! I pass that place all the time but I’ve never gotten a chance to stop there. So happy to see you back in South Jersey!
NJ & Oregon are the only 2 states that you can't pump your own gas. I miss living in NJ, hate pumping gas in the cold!!
I have heard that Oregon now allows self serve gas.
I was just in Portland & they did not but maybe other parts of the state do.
It's called full-service Jacob, I didn't know they still had them, if you look on Back to the Future where Marty went to a gas station you see all these guys filling up your gas checking the oil I think they stopped doing that back in the late 70s
