  • My quick demo/review of the 625 lumen Maglite ML300LX (3x D cell version). Including comparisons with the previous Maglite LED model, and my current pocket sized power-house, the Fenix PD36R.
    This is an unpaid, unsponsored review with a Maglite purchased with my own money.
    UPDATE: Since I made this video, it appears that Maglite has upgraded this flashlight with a higher output (750 lumens?) while keeping the same model number, which is causing some confusion online. The specs I quote during this video are still correct for the flashlight I received (see my photo of the packaging at 1:05 in the video). Please bear this in mind before commenting that I've got my specs wrong or I don't know what I'm reviewing.

    If Maglite brought out a Maglite but with a 21700 cell or 26650 cell then we would be on for a winner. Equally in Neutral white or warm white colour

      Yes. I think it's the older traditional types of batteries holding them back.
      Or perhaps a Fenix LR35R with just an extended handle for some added dead weight.

      @@WildStuffhaha I love my LR35R. I literally just came inside from shining it around my property. I had my PD35R and C7 in my pocket. I love Fenix and I actually really like this Maglite. The 3C LX would be my choice.

    Mag has increased the output of the ML300LX to 746 lumens. ML300LX LED 3-Cell D Flashlight - Maglite. I have a ML300LX and C cell ML50LX. Both are incredible. Had custom made glare coated glass lenses made for them. Oh yeah the ML50LX 3 cell output has also gone up to 706 lumens. These new 3 rd gen Mags are all a home run.

    You are the master of torches. Excellent comparison. I guess the decision gets down to how much you need the ability to crack someone's skull. Personally, I prefer the tiny size of the Fenix which frees me up for a whole host of other offensive weapons.

    Maglite still has a place, but a few design upgrades certainly wouldn't hurt them. I'd like to see a few flat surfaces to prevent rolling, some higher water resistance and a lanyard hole near the end of every light.

      Yup. it's called Fenix PD35R or PD36R PRO. If you want 3K lumens, single switch function, small and light weight, plus rechargeable, definitely check the C7 out. Phenomenal lights

    Probably your old version of maglite 3d is 131 lumens and 31000 cd ( i have ML300l camo and 3d led 131 lumens ) Fenix is solution ( like other chinese flashlights ) of marketing it has very much lumens and short runtime at the turbo mode... Maglite designed for walkig in the forrest during the all night, fenix is pocket flashlight for 3-5 minutes of efficient runtime to view something then allow flashlight to chill...

  • @joshakaoger69
    @joshakaoger69 3 года назад +2

    I don't like turbo lights it's only for short period maglite you get full lumens whole 16 hours

    • @WildStuff
      @WildStuff  3 года назад

      That's impressive! What sort of batteries are you using to get constant output for 16 hours?

    • @bobdelair02
      @bobdelair02 3 года назад +1

      The run times presented by Maglite are according ANSI standard which means untill 10% off the initial light output, certainly no 16 hours of full output.

    • @joshakaoger69

      😂🤷 either way it's not a few minutes bs and that description is wrong it's 32 hours btw

    Can’t beat the size and portability of the Fenix. My LD30 would blow the mag lite out of the water in every category.

    Hi do you experience a gradual loss of lumens on high mode? I tried mine and did a lot of night hiking in the woods using my 3d ml300l and at most part i only used the low mode and used high mode occasionally. I noticed that high mode is not as bright anymore when batteries were fresh. Only slightly brighter than low mode. I thought when they say 16 hrs on high means 16 hrs of constant 625 lumens. And when I tried new batteries, then high mode became brighter again. What is your experience? How often do you change batteries?

    • @WildStuff
      @WildStuff  3 года назад

      My maglites just live at home for when I am investigating strange noises outside at night or taking out the trash, so they only get used in short bursts, and I'm still on the first set of batteries. I can't really offer an opinion on how they go with prolonged usage. I take smaller LED headlamps and pocket-sized torches on my hiking adventures (eg. my Fenix PD36R).
      However, I would expect it to gradually dim over time as the battery diminishes - disposable alkaline batteries are not able to maintain a consistent current for their lifespan. If you can find some NiMH rechargeable batteries (not very common in D cells) then you should expect a much longer and more consistent output, but it still won't be perfect.

    Maglite is for people who have access to alkaline D, C, AA cells and never heard of 18650, 21700 or 26650 cells.
    You can't compare alkaline powered flashlight with Lithium powered one.

    I'm confused why everywhere on the internet the specifications for this flashlight is different to the one on Maglite official website? Either those, who review do not know completely what they are reviewing or there is a mistake on the official website. Now... ML300LX 3D run time 32/112/298 with high output at 746 lumens. ML300L(NOT LX) run time 16/77/117 with high output at 625 lumens. If those on the internet think that the difference is not significant and it's not important to mention, then please don't review the flashlights. The run time before a battery needs to be replaced or charged is VERY important for a flashlight. If there is a mistake on the official website, then my apologies.

      Hi Igor, thanks for the comment. I'm sure what you meant to write was :
      "Hi, great video, but I'm confused by the Maglite website - can you confirm you've got the right specs for this model?"
      At least that's how I interpreted your comment after I trimmed away all the attitude and entitlement.
      To answer your question, take a look at my photo of the packaging (at 1:05 in the video). It says ML300LX, 625 lumens, 16/77/117 run-times. Seems legit to me. It's what was advertised on Amazon Australia when I ordered it, and exactly what I received.
      Maybe there's a typo on their website. Maybe they've upgraded this model since I bought mine (April 2020). Who knows. But the info provided in this video is correct for the light that I purchased.
      Apology accepted.
