  • Upgrading my D Cell Maglite was an easy and relatively inexpensive job and has breathed some new life into my 20+ year old flashlight.

    Hello Bobby, thank you for posting. If your torch is like mine, unscrew the other end, remove the spring and the foam (underneath the spring) and you will find a replacement bulb. Replace that bulb with a newer LED bulb just in case the other stops working. Best regards!

    I didn't know there was a conversion for the Maglites. I too have had a 4 cell Maglite forever so I would rather spend the money to convert. Thanks for posting!

    That's a big improvement. A small modern torch is probably better and cheaper, but it can't also be used as an effective weapon.

    Personally, I've always found that D cell Maglites are the perfect tool with which to perform cunning stunts.

    I recently bought a new LED torch from China, flashy thing...lol...aircraft-grade ally, light meter, 5 settings etc...the Cree LED packed up after 30 seconds! I have another, identical, less wattage and it has an electrical fault.
    My Maglite that I've had for over 20 years still works fine.

      Made in USA is hard to find these days. Retrofitting a 4D Mag I found in my dads tool box.

      @@rubenrebenz1000 Forgot to say I dropped an LED upgrade into the Maglite. The original bulb that I swapped out for the LED wasn't very bright about 14 lumens I think. Anyway, great to breathe new life into an old dog.

      @@TheGeezzer We thought we were hot shit back in the 90's if we had a Maglight flashlight but they sucked, lol.

    I got a 4 pack of LED bulbs on Amazon for about $15 US. Made a big difference, bu admitedly, some of these cheap LED lights are much brighter. I like my big Mag Lites, though. Good for self-defense also. I do keep a couple smaller cheap LEDs in my glovebox, and kitchen drawers, though. My big 3D Maglite sits in my trucks door pocket, at the ready if I need to beat the hell out of someone trying to steal my truck, or something. I may try some of the better Cree bulbs, and see how they compare to these cheapies. I think a glass lens also helps.

    Does the beam focus work with the led?

    • @bobby2292
      @bobby2292  2 года назад +2

      On a test from approx 3 metres, when the focus is in I get a bright spot 230mm (8in) in diameter. When focusing out the LED does not spread light to the outside of the point you're aiming at as well as the original bulb. With the LED, the torch works well as a spot light but not as well if you wanted to light up a larger area. The focus does work. Better when focusing in but not as good when focusing out.

      I'm not sure that I can give any advice. The MagLite in my video is an old model, over 30 years old. I don't know what a newer model looks like and I believe that MagLite produce LED models nowadays. The only advice I can give is to search the web for someone who has done a conversion to a newer MagLite.

    You dont change the old réflecteur aloso ?

    • @bobby2292
      @bobby2292  2 года назад

      You don't change the reflector it stays in the torch. You only replace the bulb.
      There are kits to replace the reflector also but they cost way too much.

      I bought my LED bulb from an Australian seller on ebay. I searched for "magnate d cell led conversion". If you are not located in Australia, a similar Ebay search will hopefully get you a result.
      The link to the seller I used is - www.ebay.com.au/itm/324338853322?hash=item4b841a25ca:g:NnUAAOSwhodfk2Vc

    You need a microphone clipped on your clothes. The sound on this video made you sound as if you were in an echo chamber. I presume your microphone was on the device you used to record the video.
