I just bought the 800 lumen Firefly and new glass lens. Wow, it's bright. It brought new life to my 35 year old 3D mag! I'll actually use this flashlight now!

I don't think I've ever done this before but here goes. I think your videos are some of the best, most concise, informative and well presented videos I've seen. They are always a pleasure to watch. Your parts and kits are extremely well engineered, the best I've seen and I have a LOT of lights in my collection, including a couple of yours. Maglite should license and sell your products. There, the most complementary comment I've ever left and I stand by it.

Love your product! Because of you I left my very 1st maglite stock as an OEM, end up buying two new maglite. Planning on converting them both to a higher output flashlight with your upgrade kits.

Been keeping up with your channel for a while. Love the information and love vicariously nerding out on lights through your content. I just caved and bought the Imalent ms18! It's so amazing! Alas I live in a very humid climate and the light is so bright the humidity obscures things I'm trying to see at a distance. But even with that I'm blow away every time I kick it on!

Now I get it....sorta. Can you come over and help me with my tons of lights? I live on The Gig Island in Hawaii. We can go in a lava tibe when we get my lights figured out. I don't have electricity since my tenants stopped paying rent, I need some quick and easy and inexpensive tricks to light up my nights. I have a four D battery and a 5D battery Maglite, the rest are Chinese cheapos. I use my solar light stakes from the yard

Matt, thanks for this video. As simple as it seemed when I got my replacement...LED 1000 LUMIN for a Maglite. if you do not know what to do, it is never as simple as it seems or rather as people say. I had the incandescent bulb retaining collar and didn't know what to do with it... yeah, now I know it wasn't needed once the old bulb was removed. Cheers again.

012322/0303h PST 🇺🇸. Mat, good morning and thank you. As promised, you delivered the instructions on how to incorporate 800L emitter on type C MAGLITE. I was waiting for over 6 plus months for that design to come by. I am placing order for one 800Lm drop-in emitter for type C (21700 Li-Ion) and one 800Lm for 1D cell MAGLITE, that you modified, with 21700 li-Ion Cell. FYI 21700 works well with no noticeable loss in Lm.
Thanks and appreciate your educational video. Stay safe and good Lux. 73s…

Do you have an idea of what exactly would happen if you use 8D batteries in a 6D rated bulb ?
If I'm not using the light all the time for very long periods of time, could it really be that big of a problem ?
I'm fine not using this extension I've ordered, but I sure would love to have a cool extra long 8D maglite.

Hey boss, I’m in law enforcement and still use my streamlight sl20x halogen. Terralux use to make a drop in 600 lumen led conversion but no longer make it. There is little to no info on the interwebs on how to make a powerful and efficient conversion with the sl20x chassis. I love this light and it’s been with me for years. Can’t you make do a build on this? I’m sure there are others out there like me.

    • @4Sandrix
      @4Sandrix 7 месяцев назад

For those who're interested, I did eventually find a single led 800 lumen kit by lumencraft that fits(Mike didn't bother to answer me but oh well), but it is definitely not worth the money (around $60). The build quality is not bad, but the beam pattern it produces on the other hand is pretty much garbage. The reflector produces a very rough hotspot with a huge bleed around it and you can't adjust that. The hotspot is not a perfect circle either. It's a mess. So overall for $60 it is definitely not worth it. You can buy far superior high quality flashlights the price. Also the reflective surface is just a mirror polished aluminum without ceramic coating. It get's scratched even with microfiber cloth.

    Hi mate
I got your 3500 lumens upgrade for the incandescent Maglite.
I'm in the UK so it took a while to deliver here but it was well worth the wait! I'm using it in a 6D Maglite but one day I want to use it in my 2D Maglite with the battery conversion. You *shouldn't* use it in the 2D Maglite with normal D batteries, correct?
By the way I couldn't find your 5000 lumen version. Is it no longer being manufactured? Not that 3500 is too dim haha

I have the 5000-lumen head that I have installed on a 6-C Maglite. I tried it with alkaline batteries and laughed at the results, it really was funny how fast they dropped off. Since I have switched to using 18650s instead of Cs, I made several adapters that convert from 3 Cs to 1 18650. My 6 cell light works fine with 2 of these but I can do better. I will be making a 6-C adapter that will use 4 185650s in 2 parallel circuits. That's 7.2 volts, 7 Amp capacity, with a 10 AMP discharge rate using my current 3500mAh HDC batteries. I'm curious to see what my actual burn time will be with this setup.

  • @driftracing08

I think being above 1000 lumens is way over board that the maglite ml300l can throw up to 406 meters being 625 lumes and the warrior x turbo is 1000 lumes and it can throw up to 1000 meters and that the reflector is longer but 1000 lumens is to bright for close up things and it is all just for the bright light enthusiast because I tried a 700 lumen 3 c cell flashlight at night and it worked perfectly fine with enough light that I can see all around and I have the seeker 3 but I hardly use it because 4000 lumens makes to much heat and drain the battery way faster when a 1000 lumen or below flashlight can run cooler and longer like the maglite l300l on d batteries

@@rifraf1970 "IF" the ells in that pack are truly 4400ma then that pack would also have a higher capacity than the 3500ma pack I linked. That would mean you got more runtime out of it. They possibly could be, or they could be the same cells just marked as higher, or lower capacity cells marked that way. I purchased sets of regular D cell NIMH batteries and both sets claimed 10,000ma. One set of cells were truly 10k capacity, the other set fell flat on its face and was only like 6000ma or so...

At least with the lights ive encountered the maglights with the deeper head had the old style switch which use a threaded retaining ring and a allen head screw and come out the top of the light vs coming out the tail end and have a snap ring and torx set screw holding it in place. These 2 lights were a 4 c cell from 94, 3 d cell from 93 (also had thicker body). The rest of my mags are d cells from 97 98 99 and 2016 amd those are 2 2d cells, one 3 cell and a 6 cell long boi. Cant say thats the way they all are but thats the way mine are. All the dates were confirmed manufacturers date from emailing maglight my serial numbers as i bought most of these 2nd hand since they are older than i am.

Hi, Can you tell me if the 2000lm work in a 6d cell maglite, ?

To use the 2000 in a 6D you would need to put 3x Dummy D cells in the body to get the voltage down. Probly better to use either the 800 lumen or the 5000.

Matt, i have an old style 3 d cell. How many lumens could i expect from the 800 lumen upgrade. I am going off that leds are voltage and amperage sensitive i suppose. And would regular alkaline for a total of 3 work with the 800

@@frankcrawford416 You would get pretty close to full output on 3 cells with the 800 lumen, I would say worst case in al old light with possibly worn contacts using alkaline cells etc you should expect 650+.

Do D cells fit into Mag Charger? My cradle simply died so I cant recharge anymore, mine is halogen so I wonder if I could use Alkaline batteries

Yep this is my deal right here. Can you set me up with a link to the 2 lithium batteries and the 5000 lumen light head? I'll need all the sleeves and dummy cells and whatnot for a 6D mag. You can email me.

Maglite Is ovepriced dinosaur. There are tons of better flashlights on the market. Just a few, armytek, olight, jetbeam, solarforce, nitecore, Fenix, rovyvon, Wuben, Sofirn, Fireflies etc.
