Your close up camera work, showing your idea of what you are hoping to creature, by every cut you do, is very well done and is extremely important to a novice like me. I like hearing you explain why you are cutting because to me, it makes sense. Nigel, your ideas are inspiring and I like how you think. Sorry to hear about Majics car accident. RIP Majic.
Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend “Magic”. Perhaps you can plant a tree of his favorite variety in his name as a remembrance. Great video as usual.
Nice interlude of the work at the Community Garden. You are all making progress with it. And, I agree with the comment from Noles Fan - nice idea to plant a remembrance tree in honor of "Magic". Like the work that you have done on the Schefflera. Thanks for another interesting video.
I agree with the memorial tree suggestions in previous comments, condolences. I was eyeing up these trees at the nursery I brought my Dad to on Sunday for our weekly walk. Was much too cold to walk outside. Today it was -15C most of the day where I was working. The wind was cutting through you. My Dad loves to go see and touch all the plants and flowers, different colours. I will try to bring him to the conservatory next Sunday. He has Alzheimer's. He said the leaves on the Schefflera look like animal footprints. He's too cute! Thanks for the video Nigel :)
A very informative video for me. For a long time I've been thinking about making a bonsai out of a schefflera. However, I was never sure how to cut it. Now I will try it. Thanks Nigel.
@@justaregulargamer7314 Thanks for the tip! Was'nt ment for me, but thanks anyway! Got a sheflera and the trunk are an antenna staigt up, not like Nigels nice tree.
Sorry to here you's lost your friend, I'm sure there will always be great memories at the forest. Great video otherwise, the Chefflera bonsai looks fabulous ! Great to hear your thoughts as you worked on it.
Sensei Saunders, hey its Mister Mangekyo again! I previously commented on your aerial roots video, your advice helped a lot thank you! I am pretty confused on how pruning and ramification work with schefflera bonsai. Such as how it responds to pruning and ramification, in particular: Where to prune (branches, cut angles, leaves, stems, etc), and how to influence direction of growth. Please help!
If you were Obelix, you could pick up that stone with your fingers. :D Vietnamese bonsai is another version of Chinese bonsai, the artistic culture is very different from that of Japan. But there are not many conifers and deciduous trees in Southeast Asia. The art of Vietnamese bonsai focuses more on the creation of miniature landscapes, imitating the landscape of islands in the middle of a lake.
Hi Nigel, what are your thoughts on the straight aerial roots at the base of the large root on the right of the tree? Is the strategy to leave those to help thicken the main one.
The typical bonsai Vietnam style is "Dáng làng". "Dáng làng" describes the shape of a village gate in an old village in Vietnam, along with a thousand years-old tree next to village gate.
Lovely tree, how old is it? Your last ficus video got me thinking, when you remove a thick aerial root could you leave it in the pot and get a new tree?
Those trees are for the First Nations garden, the Tamarack, Birches and Cedar are all sacred to the First Nations people. There will be a healing garden and a sweat lodge. The area is designed to be a beautiful place for ceremonies!
Hello Jim, I let the branch grow, usually until it gets woody, then I prune it back hard. This will cause new branches to from at the tip of the pruned branch.
I wish I had a backyard like yours, but I live in an apartment. Can you give afew example of the tree species that we can grow indoor with a limited sunshine? I meant, 3-4 hrs direct sunshine. Greeting from Turkey.
That's very little light. If you add a little supplemental light you could Probably be okay with a ficus or portulacaria afra. Possibly a schflerra or Brazilian rain tree.
Only if the tree is kept under poor conditions, too little light, too cold a temperature or not enough humidity. You have to be very careful that when the new leaves emerge, they do not get attacked by insects as this can be fatal to the tree also!
With the number of trees in my plant room, the humidity always stays quite high, usually between 40 to 75 percent. I mist at least twice a day, morning and night and usually mid day if the sun is shining. The room is sealed off from the rest of the house, so it doesn't get any forced air heat. I have a radiator style heater in the room and a fan to circulate the air.
I would plant the cuttings as soon as the new spring growth has hardened off. It may take up to a year before the cutting has enough roots to be re potted.
Remember kids these trees don’t like leaf pruning it could get sick n die Meanwhile: clip clip clip clip Hey next time u want to create a bonsai video keep it a bonsai video and not hole digging out in the corn fields

It is a good tree to develop with clip and grow, it's hard to cut them back to stumps, but worth it when the new growth comes in!
@@TheBonsaiZone That it pays to show yes your video. I will follow your instructions and assume that one day I will have a nice bonsai.
Cool ideas for the Schefflera. Looking forward to printing some of your designs in the future! I need some smaller pots !!
The 3D pot making will begin soon, hopefully tomorrow!
I get so excited! Was just watching you work on your cutting of a cutting.
It needs some work on it again soon!

I always loved schefflera... found one abandoned on the side of the road one day when I crashed my bike, not what I expected to find!
A happy ending!
I just took some cuttings from some schefflera growing as landscaping plants I can't wait for them to take root
Hey I love your bonsai plants
Thank you Amanda, it is a fun hobby!
Several nights in southern Alberta have reached minus 20 so far we skipped fall here right into winter it seems
Wow, we had a milder but similar change hear, it went from rain to -10 in one day, kind of a shocker to the system!
Very nice video sir
Thank you!
Did I see a Movember 'stache starting to sprout?
Yes and I hate it, but I'm hoping I can last until Dec 1st!
That’s awesome just finished watching one of your videos that you were working on a dwarf orange tree. August 2016 if I’m not wrong. Great work.

Hi Nigel, what are your thoughts on the straight aerial roots at the base of the large root on the right of the tree? Is the strategy to leave those to help thicken the main one.
At the moment, it's too small to worry about, but it may be removed in the future if it doesn't flow in nicely with the trunk!

It is a cutting off of my larger clump style Schefflera, the planting is about 20 years old and the cutting was separated about 10 years ago.
Anyone know where to get the 3d print designs?
I will be modeling more pots this winter and I'll post them on line. Look for a future video on this!
Nigel, why did I hear about 3 species of tree that are inedible going into an "edible" food forest?
Those trees are for the First Nations garden, the Tamarack, Birches and Cedar are all sacred to the First Nations people. There will be a healing garden and a sweat lodge. The area is designed to be a beautiful place for ceremonies!
When schefflera actinophylla update ?
Soon, it is alive and doing well!
Thanks for the C to F conversation
You are most welcome, most of my viewers are from the US!
Can I start a bonsai tree out a lemon seedling? I started the seedling from a seed in June.
It will take many years but of course you can.
Yes. Yes you can.
Yes, most of my citrus trees were started from seed!
How do you get your Schefflera to branch instead of being a long straight trunk with a bunch of leaves?
Hello Jim, I let the branch grow, usually until it gets woody, then I prune it back hard. This will cause new branches to from at the tip of the pruned branch.
I wish I had a backyard like yours, but I live in an apartment.

What do you do with your maples in winter
They stay outside until the temperature gets down to -10 C at night, then I bring it into the unheated part of the basement for the winter.
One question boss, is defolation danger for the tree during winter?
Only if the tree is kept under poor conditions, too little light, too cold a temperature or not enough humidity. You have to be very careful that when the new leaves emerge, they do not get attacked by insects as this can be fatal to the tree also!
