Loved the blue watering can and I enjoyed the video!!!
🌟Thanks Nigel! The watering can needed some love. 🤣
Sometimes a good watering will stabilize the tree in the pot before pruning. Water will add weight to the mix, thus, keeping it steady. Great pruning and a terrific looking Xin Schef you received.
🌟Thanks Tom! Yes, that is a good tip. 👍👏
Looks great Jay! I think we both posted our Schefflera reports at the same time 🌳🌝
🌟Great minds think alike Mike! But really it should be LARCH MARCH! 🤣
Always satisfying to see such healthy roots on a cutting! Cheers jay, excellent carnage as usual.
🌟Thanks Colin! Can’t wait for some chops from you now that spring is rapidly approaching… 👍
Loved the sound effects. I think I'm going to have to try MYKE I've never tried it. Great video Jay and James.
🌟Sound effects? Your trees don’t make those sounds?? 🤣 Ha, ha. Thanks Carol! I think I will buy shares in the company. 😄
Well done James , covering the branches came in very handy for the pruning decisions.
🌟Thanks Derrick! Sometime James has to stop me from chopping everything off! 🤣
One species I've never been fond of but you may have changed my mind Jay!
🌟Thanks Kale! Free is always good… I didn’t root any cutting but I will so you can have one. 👍
Pop lol. Lovely schefflera
🌟Your trees don’t make that sound Denise? 🤣
It's informative and inspiring, Jay. Thanks. I also like the way you present the process.
🌟Thanks Jack! I’m glad you liked it. 🙏
Nice video Jay! Very enjoyable.
🌟Thank you Raymond! 👍
Knock knock,, who's there?. Spring, there is work to do🐦🌱 love the video Jay 👍🏼
🌟Thanks Jesse! Ha ha, it keeps knocking then running away here! 🤣
@@BlueJayBonsai yes, in the Netherlands as well. But slowly it gets warmer ☀️
Daaaang Dumpsterdori! ! I have so much to learn from you! Xin Ficus has a nice ring to it 🤔Also that pot is a perfect match for the Schefflera. Good Show!
🌟Thanks Patricia! Yes, I learned a new term as well… and I like it!
Sometimes a dowl rod through the bottom hole also helps to remove a plant from the pot.
Hi Jay, I was just thinking if Nigel’s channel hadn’t been hacked I wouldn’t have contacted you n would’ve missed out on your gr8 music, hilarious sound effects n lovely bonsais! Every cloud...etc. God bless you ✌️🇺🇦🌻
🌟Thanks Gaye! I never thought of it that way.. great point! So glad you’re here! 🐦💙
Thanku Jay, I’ve just bought a half price Thuja occidentalis ‘Teddy’( ready named, phew!) seems to be a mass of rooted cuttings, I’m thinking some sort of forest or clump, depending on how many I get out of it. God bless you 🙏✝️ ✌️🇺🇦🌻
Beautiful gift! Me wanty a set.
🌟No kidding!
Cool Schef from the dumpster. Free is always good when developing bonsai. What a great find.
🌟Thanks Tom! Yes, Joseph has access to lot of good finds working for the city.. even digging them out sometimes for work, and keeping them.
Loved the gift from lets do bonsai, i won the set last year and i have to say i use it alot but i removed 2 of the 5 teath on the rake
🌟Thanks Anders! I forgot you were the winner! So cool, so tool! 🤣
I see the schefflera is in good hands! They seem to grow roots at a fast rate
🌟Thanks Xin! Another star is born from your gifts! 😀
Random gifts in the mail. I like that!!!!
🌟Thanks Stefan! Wait - it’s not from you?!? 🤣
They will get pot bound quick. Easy and fun little trees.
🌟Thanks! Yes, I’m just figuring that out… guess I need a series of bigger and bigger pots for it as it grows! 👍
Awesome video jay
🌟Thanks Vishal! I really appreciate that! 👍
Left handed shears for left handers are always out there. Since you are right handed, better to switch hands. Nice pruning of the roots.
🌟Thanks Tom… it’s just one of those RUclips video issues… not an issue in real life. 😄
Nice vid Jay. I have some schefflera growing for future bonsai projects. I guess its getting to that time Ill check on the roots. Your root system seems to be behaving well for future nebari. 😀👍
🌟Thanks Magnus! Yes, a nice nebari in the making indeed!
Hadir kawan, Salam silaturahmi dari 🇮🇩 Indonesia, I like ❤️bonsai🙏🙏🙏
🌟Thank you my friend! 🙏
@@BlueJayBonsai 🙏🙏
Very good thank you video so nice
🌟Thank you my friend! 🙏
Awesome, Jay!! That's a lot of MYKE !! But itdefinitely worth !! Your watering can, and brass tools are adorable.
Have a great weekend!!
Cheers Jason and Colleen ☕️🌝🌱
🌟Thanks Jason & Colleen! I could make quite a dent in your garden with my little rake and shovels. I am aiming for a MYKE sponsorship!
Nice one Jay. Any bonsai video is exciting cuz people who love bonsai also enjoy the process involved.😊
🌟Thank you TheTwistedTree!
Nice job Jay! Looking good!
Like your new mini gardening tools. :)
🌟Thanks Stefan! ⚒️⛏
Another great video 👍🏻
🌟Thank you my friend! 🙏
Oh wow.. Thats a lot of roots! Should be happy in teh new pretty pot, lots of room. Maybe a new PA for the blue pot? 😅
I should be repotting my schefflera cutting this spring too, the roots are already showing on top of the soil.. Maybe soon 😊
🌟Thanks Aija! I already put a too little ficus benjamina in it.. if it lives I’ll show it on the channel… it was off camera and a bit of a rescue operation.. 😀
Really amazing video
🌟Thank you my friend! 🙏
Great work Jay. I like the new pot, both the colour & room for the root base to radiate nicely ! 👍👍
🌟Thanks Guy! I really appreciate that from you. 🙏
Luar biasa Bonsainya bosquh
🌟Thank you my friend! 🙏
I love the little blue watering can. I'll have to get one soon and put it in one of my episodes. Bonsai on my friend!
🌟Thanks Dave! I thought it would just be a cute prop in the background, but it’s really handy for the tropicals. Plus the water comes out so gentle it doesn’t even disturb perlite. 👍
Good job video friend
🌟Thank you my friend! 🙏
Nice video Jay! Good to see those healthy roots.
🌟Thanks Thomas!
Very interesting video
🌟Thank you Dave!
Great little video you two! Perhaps a dollar store plastic serving tray to catch the water would help the mess. I used their small boot trays on my workstation. Large ones on my floors and shelves. Dumpsterdori! HA!!
Thanks Marysol. Watering is not a real world problem.. it’s only a RUclips video problem. 🤣 Dumpsterdori is the word of the month!
@@BlueJayBonsai Agreed, and agreed!😄
Good. A few suggestions:
Water the plant before you start.
Place extra wires through the drainage holes for tying the roots.
When the roots are there, but the top soil is not, tie the roots firmly in place. Nigel likes to put rocks there instead, because these root ties will damage the roots in the long run. However, one can always do an operation to remove the ties before they cut in, and rocks do a mediocre job at securing the roots . At any rate, wire or rocks, secure the roots.
When all new soil is in, water the plant.
After watering I like to press on the soil with the back end of a chopstick, or 2-3 chopsticks glued together to compact it and get rid of extra water.
The pruning you do is pretty massive. Schefflera is a real survivor, so it won't affect it. But more delicate plants would be damaged. I suggest not combining rootwork and pruning (except for very minor pruning), but making sure roots establish themselves, new leaf buds appear, and only then pruning the tree.
🌟Thank you @Kurtlane!🐦💙
@@BlueJayBonsai You're very welcome.
Great video! You got a nice looking little shefflera on it's way ! 👍
🌟Thanks Angry Bonsai! It’s a work in progress.
I miss you!! Hope you are doing well after all the medical issues.
Cool Jay. Already getting a woody trunk on Rhirhi! thanks for sharing!
🌟Thanks Bradley! I think I need a little 3d umbrella for the pot. 😀
Wonderful plants 🪴 Thank you for good sharing 😊 Like it ❤ Stay connected ❤
🌟Thank you Big Tomato! 👍
Good job bro
🌟Thank you my friend! 🙏
Bow Ties. Cool. Some call them Mickey Mouse ears.
🌟ha, I like that! I also call them butterflies…
Lol, looks like I need to work on my dumpsterdori and keep the trend going, or at least so I can send you some pics
🌟Thanks King of Dumpsterdori! Ha ha. Yes, more pics… or video on your channel.. 😄
Your Xin schefflera is off to a great start. That species is fun and easy to grow as bonsai. I tried to send a picture of my schefflera to you but it keeps getting bounced back. Thanks, keep growing
🌟Thanks Matt! I just got some subscriber pics today.. so seems to be working?!?! Can you try an email with no pic? Blue jay bonsai vlog @ Gmail . Com = bluejaybonsaivlog@gmail.com
Jay, your carnage cam didn’t show the roots you pruned and you did a lot of root pruning. The root base looks really good. Well done.
🌟Ahhh you’re right Derrick! I had already cleaned off all the soil/roots. Good catch.. I have to remember for next time. 👍
I’ve got a dwarf Schefflera. But it’s the variegated kind. It grows so painfully slow. I’ve had it for 3 years. I really want to do stuff with it but.🤷♂️ I’ve trimmed it once so far.😂
🌟Hi Dan! Yes, all variegated grow slow. They look cool.. but grow slow. If you have the patience, it pays off in the long run. I don’t have that patience yet.🤣
Very good point, I’d kinda forgotten. I’ve been hankering after a little group of variegated Dizygothicas but at 68 I haven’t got the time let alone patience! Now having said that out loud, as it were, I’m jolly well gonna get em! They’ll look lovely as they are! ✌️🇺🇦🌻
Great job on that root plain, BJ!
Real full, all 360 degree around.
I sure am envious of 3 handed pruning sessions! And I don’t think I fully understand the Rihanna reference, can you break it down for me? I’m a little slow.
🌟Thanks Bald Yeti! The pop star Rihanna has a famous song called "under my umbrella". Having teenage kids helps keep me in the loop. 🤣
@@BlueJayBonsai ha! Showing my arse. Mine are into a certain little mouse’s club house, and shaking their wiggles out.
@@baldyeti I remember those days. I like Mickey, but not the Wiggles…. Hang in there 🤣
Джей, можешь рассказать как заставить шефлеру выпускать новые ветки?
awesome of you for sharing! question! Why do you cut the roots? I have mine and its outgrowing its pot and I want to repot it.
🌟Thanks Victor. In bonsai we are trying to get a nice radial and flat root base. We also try to balance the roots and cut back the fattest and most vigorous so the others can catch up and even out in size. 🐦💙
@@BlueJayBonsai awesome! Thanks for responding to me 💚
I have been seeing brown spots on some of the leaves on this variety. What does it mean? To much water?? And if it is can I save it
🌟Hi Becky. It’s hard to diagnose without pictures, but it can be overwatering, insects or fungal infection. You can save it from all 3 I’m sure. Do a search on Schefflera brown spots and there are quite a few pages with tips. Good luck.🍀🐦💙
