*bmw e61 2005 525d* I just got my steering wheel locked ( couple small stucks before it locked dead) on the road, thanks God it was a straight line, i’ve stopped, removed panel, and was a bit surprised that my lock mechanism is not plugged in, i removed security bolts drilling them a bit ( they were loose) took the motor board out and finally wheel at least could be turned like ON/OFF switch, with much force applied lock teeth could by passed by steering shaft, and then i spent 4 hours trying to drill out/grind down the locking pin that locks the teeth ( jesus how this mechanism even works)
Not related to this. This is ignition lock. You will find a 2 wire connector on steering gear near exhaust heatshield - they usually suffer broken wires. 613D refers to active steering rack (AL = Aktiv Lenksrad)
@EddieAvalos-vw9gt The lock comes off the E90. The new lock can be bolted back on then you need to do CAS - DME/DDE matching and the new lock will be coded. The problem with these locks usually is the motor wears out. If you can find a motor try it. Occasionally the ribbon from CAS to ELV wears too so remove it and check it. The ribbon is not expensive. If this helps you can leave me a superthanks which I will buy a coffee with 😉
@EddieAvalos-vw9gt Plug and play. You would remove the ELV lock and throw in the bin. You must understand you will then have no steering lock locking wheel any longer
Always good to see how these intricate parts work. good work mate 👍
Thanks Gerard 🙂
