- Roxy Music performs their classic for a Swedish crowd.
Roxy Music is an English art rock band formed in 1971 by Bryan Ferry, who became the group's lead vocalist and chief songwriter, and bassist Graham Simpson. The other members are Phil Manzanera (guitar), Andy Mackay (saxophone and oboe) and Paul Thompson (drums and percussion). Former members include Brian Eno (synthesiser and "treatments"), and Eddie Jobson (synthesiser and violin). Although the band took a break from group activities in 1976 and again in 1983, they reunited for a concert tour in 2001, and have toured together intermittently since that time. Despite a 18-year gap between activity Roxy Music never officially split up. Ferry frequently enlisted many Roxy members as session musicians for his solo releases.

Turn the lights down
Way down low
Turn up the music
Hi as fi can go
All the gang´s here
Everyone you know
It´s a crazy scene
Hey there just look over your shoulder
Get the picture?
No no no no .......(yes)
Walk a tightrope
Your life-sign-line
Such a bright hope
Right place, right time
What´s your number?
Never you mind
Take a powder
But hang on a minute what´s coming round the corner?
Have you a future?
No no no no .......(yes)
Well i´ve been up all night again
Party-time wasting is too much fun
Then I step back thinking
Of life´s inner meaning
And my latest fling
It´s the same old story
All love and glory
It´s a pantomime
If you're looking for love
In a looking glass world
It's pretty hard to find
Oh mother of pearl
I wouldn't trade you
For another girl
Divine intervention
Always my intention
So I take my time
I´ve been looking for something
I've always wanted
But was never mine
But now I've seen that something
Just out of reach - glowing -
Very holy grail
Oh mother of pearl
Lustrous lady
Of a sacred world
Thus: even zarathustra
Another-time-loser
Could believe in you
With every goddess a let down
Every idol a bring down
It gets you down
But the search for perfection
Your own predilection
Goes on and on and on and on
Canadian club love
A place in the country
Everyone's ideal
But you are my favorita
And a place in your heart dear
Makes me feel more real
Oh mother of pearl
I wouldn't change you
For the whole world
You're highbrow, holy
With lots of soul
Melancholy shimmering
Serpentine sleekness
Was always my weakness
Like a simple tune
But no dilettante
Filigree fancy
Beats the plastic you
Career girl cover
Exposed and another
Slips right into-view
Oh looking for love
In a looking glass world
Is pretty hard for you
Few throwaway kisses
The boomerang misses
Spin round and round
Fall on featherbed quilted
Faced with silk
Softly stuffed eider down
Take refuge in pleasure
Just give me your future
We'll forget your past
Oh mother of pearl
Submarine lover
In a shrinking world
Oh lonely dreamer
Your choker provokes
A picture cameo
Oh mother of pearl
So so semi-precious
In your detached world
Oh mother of pearl
I wouldn´t trade you
For another girl Видеоклипы
The BEST at everything. Ferry is extra special.
That singer is a straight up vibe
We would never have had this kind of art without drugs.
And that's the fucking truth
Zep fans have stairway to heaven.. mother of pearl is our stairway to heaven.. brilliant...
Very well put
Queen have BoRap, Purple have Child in Time, The Doors have When the Music’s Over and The End, and then there is this magical, monstrous, mystical masterpiece.
what a fucking artist.. I remember those Bowie & Roxy nights in the nightclubs in my late teens.. Bowie and Roxy all night, but maybe some Buzzcocks and Joy Division thrown in to the mix.. great memories
The rest of your life must have been an anti klimax compared to that.
Man how this song brings back memories....standing by my Honda, parked in a secluded spot down by the Potomac River on a torpid summer's night, watching the stars as the moon reflected off of the river's ebbing tide, pot smoke hanging heavy in the still night's air, mesmerized by the moon's glinting reflection in my girl's eyes. The sheer peacefulness of song and life and love all melding together in a perfect symphony of youth with all it's hopes and dreams.
amazing live take of an amazing song. thanks for posting
Discovered Roxy Music in 1999 at 20 years old. Ever since, I’ve come to realize that you either love Roxy Music or you simply don’t know their music.
As with most my friend.
Pantomime music at a very sophisticated level of compassion and execution.
Cleverly orchestrated with fantastic sounds that make you travel in wonderland.
I got into RM when they happened in the 70s and I was in the 6th form. I took them to Uni and they have been a staple in my life ever since.I was an Art student and their music was pure poetry to me. Strangely it's only now that I realise how gorgeous he was!
First 5 albums magnificent..
Ecactly.
The first album was groundbreaking in several ways, but has some weak moments from budget constraints. Also the sound is not that good. 8.5 out of 10. But what follows then is a row of three 10 out of 10 albums, and one 9 out of 10.
Sentimental fool, get that! You will see both ends burning, discover the heartache of every dream home, and finally know how mother-of-pearl really looks like.
For Your Pleasure.. my first intro to Roxy, and one that's stayed with me since 1973.
Yes mesmerising 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
He's so fine 💓💓💓💓
Art and poetry wrapped in a musical wrapper. His confidence is a wonder.
he actually was very insecure throughout his life, so this is even more impressive
Roxy Music with the great Phil Manzanera at guitar...terrific...
What a band they will always be in my mind.!!
I have all of phil’s solo work amazing stuff!
Blessed to say my brother in law sang backing vocals with Roxy music back in the day. 👍🏴
Incredible performance super sonic 🎵🎶 super cool Bryan,
This is just one of the most mesmerizing songs ever written. Beautiful, sophisticated, spellbinding, deep... Ferry at his best.
Genius. That’s all.
I agree!! Your description is spot on!!!
I agree.
@@mrGoesto11 be silent u little prick
@@mrGoesto11 You're either a troll, or someone so unable to see beauty it's saddening.
Legend has it that Ferry wrote the lyrics in one night and delivered them the next day in the studio in ONE TAKE!!!!!!
I am sure that is the case with Love is the Drug
Andy Mackay wrote "Love is the Drug"
@@letsgobrandon. That's good to know, some of the words are a bit on the nose 😅
@@letsgobrandon. The credit for "Love is the Drug" is Ferry / McKay, which would suggest lyrics by Ferry and music by McKay, although I could be wrong regarding the division of labour.
This song is a two for one masterpiece
This song helped me in my hours of feeling alone unloved and ready to be put in a home. 1976 is when I found this absolute gem.
I'm 63 now and didn't discover it until 2022! How in the World did it take so long. What a song.
Art , music and poetry combined, then add the talent of Roxy Music and what you have is one brilliant groovy peace of music that just drifts into your mind via your ears and gos around your brain and stays there forever …….
Music, just bloody wonderful 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
I can watch this over and over and over...and I have and will continue to do so. Bryan Ferry and Ray Davies have the most beautiful, enticing hands...
Asolutely everything about Bryan is seductive!
"If you're looking for love
in a looking-glass world,
it's pretty hard to find."
The 19-year-old keyboard player funking it up on the clavinet, Eddie Jobson, went on to become one of the top Emerson-level keyboard players in the world!! Went straight from the innovation of Roxy to the brilliance of Zappa and on to UK, one of the greatest prog-rock bands ever. What a career.
They are the greatest. Nice to see folk that like them
ZAPPA WAS GAY AND LOSERY AND AWFUL AND SUPER PRETENTIOUS AND BAD MUSIC
Nice Violin Player as well.
@@wayneelliott7011 with a very pretty polycarb violin
Even with a mustache.......he is lovely......one of England's greatest
Ha, but David didn't rock it like Ferry
Oh what a dreamscape what planet did I land on this time . hahaha What a base line performance Roxy Music casts a very long shadow. Top notch stuff here kiddies 👴🏻
There’s something super special about this song and performance. It leaves in me an indescribable feeling.
Ecstatic
Me too! This song is so poignant
Beyond Freakin' FANTASTIC!!!!!! So damn SUAVE! In all seriousness, this makes me want to time-travel to 1976, and just rock-out live to this Ferry brilliance!!! It never gets old, it never stops making you dance! It is, undoubtedly, MAGICAL!!!! XOXOXOX
"He remembers all the punks and the hippies too...and he remembers Roxy Music back in "72."
Grande Mr. Ferry.
Any one after "How I Met Your Mother"?
In Love with Robin?
Everyone enjoy this one, and youngins better treasure this one, because your generation could never equal this kind of music.!!
best version
Great lyrics, great groove to this song. You don't hear lyrics like these today!!
One of the most hypnotizing, alluring vocals and music I've ever experienced. This is an incredible performance.I was listening to this In Detroit at the time this concert took place. Fortunately, some priceless experiences stay in your consciousness forever.Much like the Summer of "67.Thank you Roxy Music!
To me, this is Roxy Music summed
up into one song... 🍊🐊
Despite being 17 years old, whenever I get married I want this song to play at my wedding.
Don't get married !!
I love that at 17 you have such fine taste! A rarity.
It's like a glorious 2 min. intro - towards the tasty and funky breakdown coda - must be divine intervention...
This song has got the lot, normally it’s the music for me, but the lyrics are so off the wall brilliant.... this will never date
I always loved the lyrics as well. Rhey bounce back n forth covering most things in life
Tz32r23tt23rttrf
I don't know what to say just amazing!!
Earlier live performances of this timeless classic from Roxy Music are my favorite. And this is one. Stunning!
From waiter to airline pilot in a seemless manoeuvre. Nice one Bryan. 😊

This is my favorite rendition of this epic song. Never gets boring to listen to it.
Bryan is so cool‼️❤❤❤❤❤
A legendary pop rock band who inspired, with Bowie, the new wave music of the 80's and the following pop rock years !
Eh don,t foget Marc Bolan-Pretty please
I want this song, my song to be in my life every day when I drive, every special moment until my time to depart from this world comes... I've been so lucky I was loved by a man the way this song explains.
This song is about his addiction to Cocaine

My favorite Roxy tune.
Love this particular performance.
Ferry’s flying higher than Neville Bartos… 👌🏻
I want this song played at my funeral. Beautiful
Fi Handley me too!! yeah
Mother of pearl
Fi Handley not yet hopefully
I am curious about why it seems a coda for the end of your life. (I’m currently picking out music for my own funeral, so I’m thinking about all this.)
Likewise.
Great song! Even better lyrics!
Damn, they are GOOD
Love of mey live. 😅 Noch mehr sexy geht gar nicht. ❤💋💋💋💃💃💃
Ferry nous charme et ondule ..quel sensuel moment merci bryan
Saw them in concert- we wish they would reform this - we've seen Bryan x2 solo & Roxy Music's 50th reunion tour & he didn't perform it. It's our fave!!
I "know" that shirt, I was very proud of finding a sort of that in a charity shop -76 (and I had seen this performance on Swedish TV - I think we were a spoild crowd despite our goverment...
PERFEKT,.,,,
My favourite RM song.😃👍🏾
I first saw Roxy Music in 1971 just before they released Virginia Plain and have followed them ever since. Their music has always been special and individual 😎
Country life was when I got hipped to the beat I was 14.!!!
Uncompromising. Visionary. Literate. that's why i still listen to RM and nothing current.
Outstanding performance of a monster of a well-crafted song.
So underrated... This song is madness! 😁
Underrated? Nonsense.
My late husband always said that this song reminded him of me :/
Roxy Music is underrated
Are you from the US?
No their not!
Years ago I heard this song in a film called SLC.
So loud, just pounding fascinating sounds
A beautiful song like this kind of needs a 70 porno mustache to go with it.
1974 Musikladen, is my all time favorite
Wow ..... i needed this break from....this time in life.
when u realise this performance is 44 years old
Frankly spoken it's 44 years young
update , now it's 46 years old
They were always "ahead of the curve," and still are.

Beautiful.
sound quality is outstanding on this.
Geile Zeiten !! Love this sexy and talented guy.
No wonder many punk bands were Roxy Music fans, they could sound very proto-punk in the early, and wonderful, albums.

Totally incredible!
This band and crack cocaine, got me through some of best moments of my life.!!!

B R I L L I A N T ! ! !
Ha ha, SLC Punk brought me here. Love this song though, and love this performance more than the studio version
That's cool! SLC Punk was a great movie.
+Param Bhattacharyya The funny thing is, I was into punk in to 80's and had this album; although quite different from punk.
+Opacid Krash This is what the early punk adopters listened to before punk + Iggy Pop
I love that song :D
Hehe, Brian Ferry.
