If employees are talking about how dirty the equipment is why the hell don't they do their damn job and clean it. Also where the hell is the health inspector.
I’ll tell you this: I believe some of these stories are either outright lies, the ppl telling them are exaggerating or these ppl work in fast food restaurants that are located in and around large cities. Because I worked in fast food when I was in high school and another year after I graduated and we had a nighttime, janitorial/maintenance (subcontracted) crew that was contracted to all the franchises in our area. They cleaned the shake machine/ice cream machine, the fryers, the soda dispensers (inside and out), ice machines and the rest of the appliances.
I used to work at BK in highschool. can tell you that the pop machines, burger grills, even the fryers were cleaned every day before going home. heck we even had this snitch coworker who would take pictures on his phone of any areas we "missed" and reported it to the manager the next day probably expecting a cookie as a reward. (disney's recess reference). I'm sure you have already guessed, that guy was not liked... xD
Me too. The milkshake machine we cleaned once a day after we closed but it really wasn't so bad (just time consuming which is why we did it at closing). I think some of these are examples are the exception and not the rule.
The Arby’s that I worked at during the 90’s removed the soda nozzles off every night an they were put a sanitizer solution over night until the opener put them back on .
One of my friends use to work at mcdonald's and she said that whenever the ice cream machines are down it's usually because they've gotten so gross it's time to clean them, but finding an employee to clean them out willingly is difficult so it'll just sit there turned off getting even more nasty until management complains and forces an employee to clean it. They're also incredibly difficult to clean and have a lot of removable parts that have to be sanitized.
Your friend lied. They go down.because they have faulty programming that sends them into sanitizing mode at random times when it's supposed to happen at 11pm. The same guy who cleans the fryers is responsible for cleaning rhe ice cream machine.

I used to work overnights cleaning a McDonald’s. I cleaned the taps on the pop machines, and the whole Ice Cream machine literally every single night. So not only was the ice cream machine clean, it was NEVER “broken.” I also cleaned the fry vats, the chicken vats the fish vat, and the grease traps, the grill, the vents over the grill, the fry station, the coffee maker, the ovens, toaster, heating drawers, the microwave, everything. The place was literally spotless every morning. Your welcome to anyone who ate there. It was also one of the highest rated McDonald’s for service and cleanliness in Canada at the time.
Coolatta's from Dunkin Donuts in Oklahoma. I was training/helping manage multiple stores as I was awaiting the grand opening of the store I would have worked in full time. All of the Dunkins here was owned by a single family, every time I went to a new store to help out/buy time for the store I was going to launch there was a common theme. "This person on this shift cleans the Coolatta machine". Each store I went to I had treated it like the store I'd be a manager for, that meant ensuring everything was properly cleaned and sanitized. The Coolatta machine always had a "dedicated cleaner", but when I had took it apart and inspected each part there was nasty moldy film somewhere. I had convinced one store to clean it nightly because the girls working there liked the Coolatta's and they saw what I had to clean out it, they almost threw up when I showed them the equipment from the machine the first time.

Not where I worked. We had to break down the soda machine every night. Soak the parts in a weak solution of bleach and water until the morning shift came in to rinse them and reattach them. We had to clean the ice machine periodically, too. This is why I didn't mind consuming the ice and soda.
Not all McDonald’s are managed the same... the one I worked at had a coked out owner and his useless son was the supervisor of the two locations they owned. I’ve seen the green gloop and worse in the machines I cleaned for them They refused to upgrade to the newer smoothie blender that was easier to clean and no one knew how to “properly” clean it and I swear to god when I looked I’m pretty sure the mouldy mass of yogurt and smoothie mix winked at me

We had to use hot water and bleach on the floors, rinse with water hot enough to boil a chicken in no time, squeegee it down the drain, then sweep up any bits that were left and rinse it. It was so clean you could eat off of it. 😁 It was hard work but worth it. We got a 98 on the score card.
@@EIuxi I had ordered a mocha frappe at McD's once. I took some sips. But, then I noticed something that looked like a blueberry. I pushed it with my straw. It was rubbery but didn't pop. I eventually got it out and rinsed it off. It was a huge iridescent looking fly. I was so grossed out because I had already taken a few sips. 🤢 Needless to say, I never ordered anything with ice cream again. I haven't ordered from McD's in a long time. I prefer cooking and eating at home anyway. I know I keep a very clean kitchen.
When I worked for Burger King back in 2015-2016, our ice cream machine didn't get cleaned and I was ordered to say it was broken because no one wanted to make them. When i said it was working my coworkers always yelled at me because they had to make it. The person who made it had been texting before I got asked. Happened all the time.
The soda machines are easy to clean and are required by the corporate policies of every major chain to be cleaned every night, including the nozzles. I have been a GM, and spent 20 years managing restaurants, and I have fired people for refusing to take the 10 minutes required to clean them each night. The further I get into this list, the more people I find that I would fire very quickly. If you are doing these things, it is guaranteed you are violating policies.
So funny story Five Guys was built and opens some days ago in Hammond Louisiana and today I decided to go eat there considering I’m a 12 with a debit card no one asked any questions so I ordered Bacon Burger No Cheese 2 patties “Large Fry” So I got a large fry right? So basically when I got my food and looked in the bag there was a tall cup of French fries and inside the bag was a mountain of fries and my burger was buried underneath the mountain of fries Yes I ate all the fries because I absolutely LOVE French fries Moral of the story: If you really LOVE French fries get the large fry at Five Guys it’s cheap delicious and a lot. Years ago I worked the 3rd shift at Sheetz. Sheetz is a convenience/fast food/gas station store located in just a few states in the northeast. Was 3rd shifts job to do all the cleaning, soda fountain, steam table, deli case scrub floors, empty trash cans, sweep the parking lot, etc. All between customers. Sheetz is open 24/7. This was before there were super sheetz and we had less fast food items already made up, but still had a few and we did do "made to order" deli sandwiches on the spot if ppl were wise to the fact that we did that at all, but mostly it was hot dogs, meatball subs, burgers, soups. Anyway it was at sheetz I learned that mold will indeed grow in high temperatures. I always thought it died at certain temps. The chilli sauce that was used for hot dogs came into the store in 1 gallon tubs and we were trained to just dump a tub of sauce in the existing sauce in the steam table pan before it ran out. One night I was going about my duties and kept smelling this sour smell. I started lifting lids on the steam table thinking maybe the sauerkraut was going bad cause we used it for hot dogs too if someone wanted it. Wasn't the kraut, turns out it was the chilli sauce. It had a film of green growning across the top. I about puked, dumped it all into the trash. Had I got caught I would have been fired. While our manager was a stickler for cleanliness she was also a greedy tightwad. Food losses went against her bonuses. I'd rather have been fired for throwing out moldy sauce, than stir it in and top someones dogs with it and give them food poisoning or possibly kill them if they had other health conditions that would be aggravated to the point of death. From that point on anytime I started my shift and ANYTHING in that steam table that was running low got pitched out and replaced with fresh. I refused to just keep adding to any of it. That was disgusting. I wasn't about to serve something I wouldn't eat myself. Also our soda fountain was properly disinfected every night I worked. Now, I cannot speak for my days off, I'd guess they weren't even wiped down let alone removed and soaked in the solution as required since when I went back to work on Monday nights I always had trouble getting the nozzles off cause that sugary syrup basically glued them to the machine. I think no matter where you eat out, it "can be" a risk. Obviously not every place is bad, especially when employees care and take pride in the job they do even if it is just flipping a frozen burger. It's when the establishment is just looking to make $$$ hand over fist and employees don't care the trouble begins. When you're hungry. The safest place to eat is in your own home, with food you've prepared yourself. Then you know what's going in your body.

One day after visiting a thrift store, while I was parked in a fast foods parking lot, I decided to try the food. Upon entering, I was confronted by an L. A. County Health Dept worker. He told me that they closed down the eatery. I asked him why did they close the eatery. He said because the soda machine spouts were dirty black with soot in the nozzles. Later on that evening, I was at a restaurant in Downey. I told the manager about the eatery, health department, and the soda fountain nozzles, that the health dept. closed the eatery because of the nozzles, being full of soot. The manager took off a nozzle spout and showed it to me. It was covered in soot. He thanked me, bought me dinner, and had all of the soda spouts washed in the dish washer!

When my family would visit an all-you-can-eat restaurant (or "smorgasbord") they would always say "here's our complimentary baked potato", which was usually rugby-ball-sized. My parents said it was a scam to get you full on the cheapest thing ever, so we would eat the good stuff and then my Mom would sneak home the potatoes in her bag to be reheated later. HAHA! The McDonalds on roosevelt blvd (I know this because I used to work there)they always make things fresh and if sits in the warming cabinet until it's time is up they always make fresh.i had mangers that made sure not only there was fresh food in the cabinets,they also made sure the store was cleaned.it always seems the ice cream machine was down.

I often wonder why these episodes are made knowing that these ruin restaurants for people. Like, we go to fast food places to grab a quick and easy meal but these videos just ruin restaurants for people. Like, what is gained from making these?

As someone who has worked at Burger King and spent the day cleaning everything even breaking down the soda machine to properly clean the caked on grime and germs and helping them break down the ice cream machine to clean it, hearing it generalized because one disgruntled employee said their McDonald's is nasty doesn't mean they all are.

My first job was at a movie theater and we did the hotdog bit. Saved them for the next day. They looked like rotting fingers. Absolutely disgusting, but that's what the manager made us do.
The thumbnail pic of that nasty substance is not fake I’ve cleaned a couple McDonald’s ice cream machines after they’ve been neglected when I used to work for them... if the machine isn’t cleaned “properly” for more than a month you get that nice science project Edit: not to mention that’s an overflow catch basin, meaning if it goes on for longer, which I’ve seen too (as in years, yes some McDonald’s locations are that bad). That mouldy sludge tends to drip down the inside of the machine caking it in a mixture of calcified ice cream mix, machine lube and mould. Which then needs to be scraped off with a paint scraper
The chicken sandwiches is very true with BURGER KING everytime I order you can tell it's been there for awhile by dry and luke warm patty this why I have pretty much quit ordering from BURGER KING

Honestly just sounds like a bunch of people that work at really shity stores. I mean I worked in bad stores before but they always adhere to basic cleanliness, sure sometimes you don't care and people get stale food but most of the time. We did our job so that we didn't have to interact with any customer longer than we wanted to.

Later on that evening, I was at a restaurant in Downey. I told the manager about the eatery, health department, and the soda fountain nozzles, that the health dept. closed the eatery because of the nozzles, being full of soot.
The manager took off a nozzle spout and showed it to me. It was covered in soot.
He thanked me, bought me dinner, and had all of the soda spouts washed in the dish washer!

When my family would visit an all-you-can-eat restaurant (or "smorgasbord") they would always say "here's our complimentary baked potato", which was usually rugby-ball-sized. My parents said it was a scam to get you full on the cheapest thing ever, so we would eat the good stuff and then my Mom would sneak home the potatoes in her bag to be reheated later. HAHA! My family 1, smorgasbord 0.

With knowing that soda and ice cream machines are barely cleaned, I dont think I'll be able to enjoy soda and ice cream unless I work at a fast food place and clean the machines myself.

The McDonalds on roosevelt blvd (I know this because I used to work there)they always make things fresh and if sits in the warming cabinet until it's time is up they always make fresh.i had mangers that made sure not only there was fresh food in the cabinets,they also made sure the store was cleaned.it always seems the ice cream machine was down.

As someone who has worked at Burger King and spent the day cleaning everything even breaking down the soda machine to properly clean the caked on grime and germs and helping them break down the ice cream machine to clean it, hearing it generalized because one disgruntled employee said their McDonald's is nasty doesn't mean they all are.

The thumbnail pic of that nasty substance is not fake I’ve cleaned a couple McDonald’s ice cream machines after they’ve been neglected when I used to work for them... if the machine isn’t cleaned “properly” for more than a month you get that nice science project
Edit: not to mention that’s an overflow catch basin, meaning if it goes on for longer, which I’ve seen too (as in years, yes some McDonald’s locations are that bad). That mouldy sludge tends to drip down the inside of the machine caking it in a mixture of calcified ice cream mix, machine lube and mould. Which then needs to be scraped off with a paint scraper

Honestly just sounds like a bunch of people that work at really shity stores. I mean I worked in bad stores before but they always adhere to basic cleanliness, sure sometimes you don't care and people get stale food but most of the time. We did our job so that we didn't have to interact with any customer longer than we wanted to.
