Watching this got me nostalgic. I lost my best friend recently and we grew up as teenagers drinking Meister Brau and Bud Dry religiously. I miss him, I miss the beer, I miss the good times
My great grandfather was head brewmaster at Schlitz In the 1930s
I remember Brown Derby for 88 cents a 6 pack. Thinking early 1970's. PBR was about $1.15 a 6 pack.
My dad drank a beer called Herman Joseph's that was brewed by Coors when I was a kid. He wore a Herman Joseph's hat as well.
Celis White (killed by Miller), Miller Red, Red Dog, Brew 102, Utica Club, Miller Clear
When you're out of Bud, tough Schlitz.
I remember schlitz, my dad worked for them in central NY in the late '70's
When I was a kid, Old Milwaukie beer had a commercial that said the slogan " The beer that made Milwaukie Famous"
After seeing my Dad stagger a few times thanks to Old Milwaukie.....My 4 year old brain thought it said
"The beer that made ME WALK famous" ....My parents found that HILARIOUS! 🤣🤣
As a beer can collector way back in the day this brought back memories. Bonus cans with these brands was the “tall boy”
Biggest Anime Betrayal, the President's Brother hating the Beer he Sponsored.
Grain Belt, Hamm's, Schmidt (as in the originals), Minnesota misses you.
Schmidt was the can with the different animals , we used to call it the hunters beer. It was good quality and good price.
They still sell Hamms in Illinois.
Can still get Hamms in California. Just drank some the other day.
Grain Belt brewed by August Schell in Minnesota.
I was looking for Carling Black Label.
"Hey, Mabel. Black Label. It's a premium brew at a popular price." TV commercial jingle.
Also i was looking for iconic Anchor Steam.
Wasn’t a case of Black Lab called a kennel?
I loved Falstaff beer. Wish they still made it.
I remember still being able to purchase Falstaff as late as 2002, but obviously can`t find it anymore
Surprised Löwenbräu didn't make the list!
Steak and Lowenbrau
Certain beers are still sold in certain states
Miller built a brewery for lite, in Trenton Ohio. It started construction in 1981 It wasn't far from my home.
Well, ain't that the Schlitz !! 😂
They ruined Shlitz , which was my fave
Agreed
My friend's Father sold the grain to Schlitz for brewing. Schlitz, to save money, switched to a less expensive liquid malt which led to their downfall. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
My dad loved Reingold Beer I remember Schaefer Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Was Rheingold a malt liquor,,like Ballantine
@@jorgeb9715 as far as I know it was just a beer.
You have special taste to no end
My dad talked about drinking Schlitz beer warm in a steel can on a Pacific Island in WW2.
Get off the table Mabel.....the nickel's for the beer!
I got one for ya I bet damned few people have ever drank it much less heard of it.
Oertel's 92
That was my Great Aunt and Uncles Brewery. I can't tell you the times I had as young boy growing up on that estate on Ky. 22 in Louisville. When the Old man who founded the brewery in 1892 built the house in the 1920's he stopped count at $250,000. The house is still there although it has been modified since.
My teenage years were spent drinking Olympia beer we called it deer piss! How about Reingold and balintine ale?
We drank a lot of Olympia very early in my drinking years. The 7oz bottles was perfect to slam when good and cold. And was cheap where I was from
It was cheap.
ShawShank Redemption... tarring the roof.
Billy Beer quickly landed in the sale beer display in competition with Red, White, and Blue as the weekly 99cent six pack. In 1977 a case of Busch Beer in long-neck returnable bottles was $3.99.
most beers today are 9 or $10 a 6 pack
im surprised that michelob light wasnt on the list..that was my favorite beer and now they have a disgusting ultra light
Because Miller light still exists
You can't even find a regular Michelob anymore.
The Michelob brand was elimated 5 years ago, the Brewery is focused on Michelob Ultra for the Golf fans
Does anyone remember Griesedieck Bros. Beer - St. Louis?
Was a little young to remember Griesedieck but the old timers used to talk about it.
I grew up a couple hours from st Louis and don’t remember it (class of 1986) but heard a lot of people talk about it. As kids we chuckled at the name
@@farrellmorgan4916 I have a bottle opener and a can opener from Greisedieck Bros. beer - Sr Louis.
Back in the early 70"s, could buy 2 quarts of Falstaff for 59 cents!
I’m old enough to remember Brown Derby.
My dad worked for Safeway and had it in the house all the time.
A beer we no longer see, here in San Antonio, TX. is "Buckhorn Beer." Inspired by the Buckhorn Saloon, in San Antonio, Buckhorn Beer was bought by another Texas beer company, "Pearl Beer." Buckhorn and Pearl beers then became a subsidiary of "Olympia Beer" of Washington state.
People here in Michigan drink Shiner products from Shiner Texas
Joe Don Baker drank Schlitz Beer in Mitchell(1975).
"You guys watch Jim Don Baker movies?"
Haha, IYKYK
I was looking for Strohs beer. My dad, my brother's and my husband drank this back in the day.
Still sell it here in Michigan
CARLING BLACK LABEL BEER | C. 1970. Made in Natick, Massachusetts. It was real cheap to buy. It was located on the shores of Lake Cochituate off Route 9 West. Their Red Cap Ale and Black Label brands were moderately popular. The plants' runoff killed all of the fish in the lake. The fish were floating onto the shores for miles.
BS. I drank Meister Brau in college, in NY, in 1987.
That was a rehash that Miller Brewing company came out with in the 80's
Meisterbrau was the poor man's beer
So many good microbrewies in WNY
And that's what you picked ???
Olympia and Schlitz are still made.
That,s what I was going to say.Schlitz, Miller, Pabst are all made in Milwaukee and still around..
PBR discontinued Olympia a couple years ago
@@edgein3299 Olympia is now brewed by Canadian brewery Great Western Brewing Company
But they are not as big as they used to be. I remember when they were constantly advertising on tv and radio.
Dizzy Dean advertised Falstaff on tv when I was a kid when he was a broadcaster for baseball on cbs.
What about black label and little kings
I like stories like this. I was a fan of Magnum because it was cheap and had a punch.
BEST 40 OUT THERE!!!🍺🍺🍺
A punch indeed 😂
Shotgun Wedding beer is pretty good
Loved Meister brau
We used to get pitchers of Schlitz dark in the early 70's....Bud had a malt liquor back then too that was great!
Schlitz - when did they put the 'L' in the name?
Back in the very early 70's my father would buy a different brand of beer every week until he found one that my brother and myself would not drink. That brand was Schlitz, I'll never forget it, we were sitting at the kitchen table and my brother grabbed two beer's from the fridge and a church key from the junk drawer and said look's like were going to try Schlitz this week. Well, rite after the first mouthful we dumped both can's in the sink, I have never tasted beer like that in my life, in fact it felt like I was drinking milk, there was no carbonation at all. Long story short, that was the beer our father started to buy every week.
You used a church key opener to open two cans of beer.
Lmao
😂😂😂😂😂
I loved Bud Dry. I'd still drink it if they still made it. Bud Ice tastes like dirt. Oh well.
I remember all the Ice brands.
I remember Red Dog and Löwenbräu .
My Dad had those JR beer still have empty cans in the basement .
Schliz and Miller were very popular with Budweiser long necks being the best. What made American ales drinkable was burying them in ice to make drinkable. Colt 45 was a malt liquor I drank occasionally with my Dad driving home after work. I'm glad Rolling Rock, who came out with the first pony (small) bottles is still around. Check out the need for "church keys" before pop tops became common.
Or Falstaff beer.
It`s my understanding that Schlitz went back to its original formula around 15 years ago
Strohs....got arrested 1st time drinking Strohs.
In the early 1970s a popular song named "Red Necks, White Socks, and Blue Ribbon Beer" became a hit. This was during the popularlity of the Hippie Movement. Hippies were anti Red Neck and abandoned Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, which was devastating to the brand. Thankfully, Pabst has made somewhat of a comeback. At one time, my Grandfather was a Pabst distributor.
Used to drink PRB. It was very affordable.
I remember when my best friend and I moved out of town to go to college. We became room mates and the first thing we did was to go to the stand buy a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Those were the days.
Sad Fact: Billy Carter died in 1988 at only 51.
In a divorce, I lost my 6 pack of Billy Beer that I had been saving. My Methodist minister soon to be ex brother-in-law was the culprit.
@@ghw7192why didn't you get it back from him stating that since he's a minister and JUST STOLE from someone that he's not going to go to hell like he's preaches😤
@@kleine.5438 I didn't realize it until long after I had moved to another state.
You missed Lucky Logger Beer. Had a plant in Vancouver,WA. Sold the guts to China in the 70s.
Falstaff
Schlitz was blamed for being made of Detroit River water and people stopped drinking it.
Honey brown
: Rainer Ale/Pink Champale
Watched grandpa hand out cold tall cans Schlitz malt liquor on his porch every day..?
Meister brow was a really good beer and I am sadly disappointed that it is no longer available
What about Special Export or Schmitt Bear. When I was in highschool we drank Miller shortys and BEER a geneneric brand with a white can and big bold letters BEER
Yes u remember the generic BEER. Would would pack a cooler for the drive in and buy a 6 pack of that to lay on top. (Was like :$1:39/6) the beer mooches that couldn’t find a buyer would come by wanting to bum a beer. We would say sure, help yourself. They would open the cooler and see that and we never seen them the rest of the night. Sometimes could use the same 6 BEERs for the whole summer
1970 witnessed the demise of Standard Rochester Brewing Co. ( Rochester NY.) Great beers and ales were the order of the day back then. To be honest I don't know why they ceased operating .
There is human tank in beer
Loved the Hamm’s bear
Forgot Blatz
Lol yes I remember blatz, it would give ya the 💩
how about FrothNslosh?
Old Frothingslosh! I'm originally from Polish Hill! Right across the bridge from Iron City Brewery!
😎🍻
@@robertkroberjr.157 wow, that's cool. My friend and I would buy if at the end of the year.
That's faults you can still get schlitz I have proof of that my dad has 4 cases of 16 Oz cans and brand new bottles that a friend gave my dad you have to go a little ways out of Ohio to get it.
I wish I knew where.
@@garymckee63 don't know but somewhere in Ohio to get schlitz and it's back to the 60s recap.
@caseysasmr9210 Yes, I used to buy the Schlitz in the bottle in Tennessee, and the first place l bought it was in St Louis. I don't drink that much anymore, but l still miss the taste of a cold Schlitz.
l might have to go to Ohio for work
Thanks for letting me know.
@@garymckee63 lol yeah no problem my dad has the bottles and cans too 12 and ponders. Your welcome bud!
I miss Schlitz.
It was the first beer I drank.
Stole it from the fridge in our kitchen.
Lmao
Got caught though.
Dad knew he had just bought that 6 pack and hadn’t drank any yet.
I had no brothers or sisters to blame it on. All I had was my baby sister who was still pissing her diaper.
Lmao
Billy Bear did its job of getting you drunk and nothing else.....then there's Old English 800 (Barf)
Grand Prize "GP for me naturally"
Pabst blue Ribbon ,Black Label ,Red/white/ blue,Falstaff
DixieBeer
As bad as Pearl beer.
Don't see Bud Dry & Miller Genuine Draft anymore either!
Red White and Blue 99 cents a six pack, or maybe Hamm's at $5.00 a case. And who can forget Schitz's beer the morning after.
Hamms beer was some nasty beer
Have always loved drinking beer unless it was Coors.
Working in the Beer Industry for many years ,most today young folks don't drink straight beer anymore , I see a lot of craft beer, fruity drinks ,energy drinks and seltzers being sold, now welches(the company that sells juices )is making acholic flavored drinks. Acholic straight up beer is is not popular with todays generation like we did, just glad i can drink a Colt 45 😎😎
Ok
My father loved Hamms, but on occasion he'd have some Falstaff. Or Schlitz. His good buddy drank a hell of a lot of Old Style. And I had a buddy the swam in Red White & Blue. Cheap crap! 🤮 Just give me a Coors Lite.
HWPR is coming back. Miller bought them. Trust me.
I'm that case I'll drink whatever beer is available. I'm not picky about what beer I drink. To me, beer is beer.
Pfeiffer GIQ... Where have you gone? 1968 was a very good year! 🍺
Rite Aid sold Schlitz,,for a budget beer taste greeaattt! That Pabst Blue. Ribbon tastes like Foster's
Meister Brau. Was. Renamed. Miller Light so. Technically. Not. Discontinued 😂
Loved Meister Brau when it was produced by Peter Hand brewery I think out fo Chicago,. After it was sold to Miller,my opinion, it was .no good 😢
My favorite beer was Schlitz
Surprise; bud dry and ice were 6% and just preceded the 6-8% vodka drinks in a can. See the progress?
Stroh's
I loved Stroh's beer
Valley Forge, National Premium, Rheingold, Olde Frothingslosh..
Wrong, Schlitz is still around.
I'M STILL MISSING ORIGINAL "MOLSON"??
Strohs, Michlob before tha Marines then Miller High life, and Schlitz. Schlitz, because of the tall boys...50 cents. 2 bucks from the E club. 1 in each trouser pocket and one in each side of the shirt besides the one in each hand. I ain't drunk!, I'm just drinkin'!
Three Stooges Beer. Panther Brewing Company in PA.
Yeah most of the craft beer scene was made up of crappy ass IPAs. People need to stop pretending IPAs taste good. That crap is awful.
I love IpAs. Some of them taste great
Firestone and Laganita iPAs are incredible especially with ice.
@@chomar97 on ice 😂 you don't put ice in beer what the f***
@jetman80pops 💯.
You forgot Red Dog!!!
I don't drink beer anymore but when I did, the first beer I ever drank was Schlitz. I started drinking beer when I was about six years old. My dad always had the fridge loaded with quart bottles of Schlitz. I'm talking about the early 60's. When they changed the recipe & Schlitz became Shitz my dad switched to Pabst Blue Ribbon ever since!!! Pabst was always a great tasting beer & on tap I couldn't stop drinking it!!! I tried other beers also. I tried German beers also like Hacker Schorr, Beck's,&:St. Pauli Girl!!! They were very good tasting beers but they had a bitter aftertaste because of too much hops!!! The worst tasting American beer,I thought was Blatz. It was too malty & tasted like carbonated plum juice. Most American beers taste OK but some are a little flat!!!
Babble time yall 👍🏾 👍🏾👍🏾
Bot
Stroh’s the original 30 pack
I was born in Hobart, IN. I remember a lot of these beers. Schlitz beer we used to call it shits beer lol. I actually loved Bud Ice. Pabst beer was horrible. Does anyone remember Hamm's beer?
From the land of sky blue water!
What about Ballantine Beer?
I once saw a six pack of Naked beer showing scantily clad women on the bottles
Truly Naked was a top flight beer we'd get in Canada.
@@WNYXeb777 the six pack I saw had to be skunk
How about a Billy!
Kirin Japanese Beer
ANYBODY REMEMBER "BLATTS"?
