  • We travelled to Bangkok directly from Tokyo under the new Thai Pass test and go scheme.
It was an extremely stressful time selling all of our stuff in Japan and preparing for our move to Thailand, not knowing if everything was going to work out. Fortunately, we made it through immigration without any problems and got negative results on all of our PCR tests. Now we're free to go cycling and bike riding in Thailand :)
The bike riding here in Bangkok though is... something else

Not sure what the Brompton clone scene is like in Thailand but there’s a good store called Tiny Wheels there. Bromptons aren’t cheap in Thailand. That she’s not complaining about being hungry says a lot. Congratulations.

I took a montague urban folding bike to thailand in the winter of 2017 and cycled from Chang Mai to Bangkok. The urban has 700cc wheels not really ideal for cycle touring but a little easier to transport than a normal bike. I had lots of problems with the spokes breaking and had to replace the wheel from a 32 spoke wheel to 36 wheel spoke.

Congratulations on making it to Bangkok safely. Ultimately efficient packaging of the bikes. Small rectangular pieces of hard plastic were glued inside the box of my bike at the locations of the pointy parts. Maybe one or two additional layers of cardboard work too. It looks you're going to have an extended summer in Thailand. I hope your next city will have less traffic and more scenery. Happy and safe biking.

Till now you guys were riding on the roads of Japan. Which I will compare it to heaven for cycle riders. Discipline crowd who follows trafic rules, clean and tidy roads with cool climate for long distance riding. On the contrary South Asian and East Asian countries is totally opposite. Tough crowd, poor maintained roads, hellish climate, no one follows traffic rules and heavy pollution. In short, it's hell for two wheeler rider be it motorbike or just cycle. But people living in these cities have no other option but to commute everyday for their livelihood. I am eagerly looking forward to exploring these cities and countryside with you guys. It's going to be a one hell of a ride. Take care guys. 👍

Wonderful. You both arrived safe and sound and everything is intact. Thank you for showing us your first ride. I have done similar to this in the past, but without the folding bikes just a regular bike and literally rode up to the airport and packed it in the entrance. I wrapped it in a big plastic sheet. Wrapped pipe insulation around the frame and taped it up. The whole thing can be a little stressful, but it was generally easy enough.

Good packaging on the bikes. Keep in mind the strap(s) you put around them become handles for anyone (luggage handlers) handling the bikes while traveling so not surprised one broke and disappeared. Even the handles on top, the bikes probably didn't stay upright so when on their side, your straps are a great handle. (till they beak)

Thankfully you guys made it safely and no damages on the bikes.. As for your first ride well... That's basically what I have to put up with every time I go out riding here in neighbouring Malaysia.. I had buses came so close if I hadn't break in time I would've crashed.. The bus driver just smirked at me when I rode passed him when he stopped at a bus stop... At least in BKK they have a bike lane.. Where I'm from the roads are badly manage with just painted bicycle signs without a lane and cycling path is as hazardous as the road... Recently crash while cycling on the pedestrian shared cycling path...
Anyway, earnestly looking forward to your Chiang Mai video.. I might wanna head up there if it is an awesome place to cycle.. Allez Mr and Mrs Cruise!

Thailand!! Wow, so you two have moved, congratulations. Folders are the way to go, everywhere. Seeing you've come thus far, what about popping over to see us in Cambodia, right next door and plenty of cheap bus connections. I would love to meet you both over here and give you a good tour around Phnom Penh. Basically push bike touring through the center of Cambodia is basically flat as a biscuit. The coast tour in quite hilly through the Cardamon mountains but quite scenic. This is a very friendly foreign bike touring country and quite cheap with plenty of English (and Vietnamese as well) now being spoken country wide. There's heaps of cheap (and clean) guest houses right across the country. Its also a very safe place. Being foreign is even more safe for you.

you had really good luck; you managed to fly out before all this Omicron fuss happened. I miss Bangkok, not gonna lie; all those dishes with a rainbow of spices and the pleasant people. Surprised at the number of bicycles though; back when I was there it was all motorcycles and tuktuks and buses. Here's to better times in Thailand, mask up all the time, and safe rides always!

Glad you made it. Traffic is way better in Bangkok compared to 1989 when they had all those tuk tuk motorbikes spewing fumes. Around 2 a.m. huge logging trucks snuck through the city with their long loads, the only time it was possible to get through.

Perhaps a couple of those folding 2-wheeled trolleys to strap your folding bike-bags when you're next travelling with them?? That'll mean you could roll them vs having to lug them! That'd be what I'd do anyways.. Glad to see you guys safely arrive into BKK!! Brave of you two to attempt riding there too.... Yeeeesh!

to make carrying the dimpa bag more comfortable I stitched some fairly large pieces of foam sleeping mat on the straps. Weigh next to nothing and the straps won't dig in to your shoulders!💙❤

Glad to see you guys doing fine there and that Taro-chan and Kurogoma-chan made it okay too! The 「ベトナム人なのに」 comment at the end did make me laugh ;-). Definitely a different environment to Japan, but am sure your experience as riders will stand to you both on those streets. Good luck on this big adventure!

It somehow is more stressful to watch than what I was expecting, and I was expecting it to be pretty bad. It makes the worst Japanese roads look really bike friendly. Hopefully it’s a lot better in Chiang Mai.

Glad to see you've arrived safely.
Have you thought about getting some Thai subtitles added to your videos? Might get the interest of the locals seeing some foreigners arriving in their country, and your first impressions/learning the language, etc. Pick up some more subs. Just a thought.
Regardless - wishing you the best, and keep up the great content.

Thanks! Good idea, but I don't know much Thai yet to do that.
