Around ‘94 (yeah I’m f*%cking old), I was “studying” abroad in Australia and holed up in Avalon north of Sydney for a couple of weeks scoring fun waves. One afternoon, this guy in a green long sleeve spring suit with really long hair paddles by me just cruising on an average beach break day. It was Brad. Suffice to say he was the best surfer in the lineup by a mile (err kilometre). Huge backhand fins free snaps making the crappy waves look super fun and ripable (like most pro level surfers annoyingly do). He kept it super low profile though. Saw him out the next day as well. Surfing like he did in the Stubbies Pro in SoCal in ‘88 I think to take down Curren in the Final. It was a pretty cool moment watching him completely rip at maybe 70-80% of his abilities. Style for miles. Cheers 🍻
