Soke Kubota is a national phenom. He is a creative genius, and far ahead of his time. His ideas, techniques, and contributions to martial arts are legendary. He is a maverick, an icon, and a relentless leader who has laid the ground work for all martial artists, and can never be replaced.

Japan style is very disciplined in it's approach. There is almost a military feel to it.. Classes are more rigid. Okinawan styles tend to have a more relaxed approach.

Pleased to meet you! And that's why I said that Gosoku Ryu is "much like" Kyokushin and not "exactly like." I know that Soke Kubota and Mas Oyama had different approaches to their styles, both of which are hybrids, and I like them both, and appreciate both Japanese and Okinawan methods. I also know that James Caan is a long-time Gosoku practioner and had Soke Kubota appear in his film, 'The Killer Elite.' Have a good day!

Tak Kubota's conditioning is amazing. That's STEEL he's striking. His body conditioning is insane.

I trained with him for 10 years. He used to take down 3 people 3 times the size of him at the same time. one light punch each...he would never go full force as they would never wake up again. That pole he is punching in the vid has his fist impression in it from punching it. Absolutely amassing athlete, he can teach you to be a killer and a peace maker at the same time. I miss training with him, i should go back and get my black belt!!!

Kancho Okuyama (IKA) is my Master, he graded me to Nidan in 2003, and I have done many Kubotan Seminars with him. I would love to take a Seminar/Class with Soke Kubota.

I have trained directly under Soke Kubota for 36 years. Gosoku Ryu uses Shotokan basics for strength, and contains elements of Goju, Aikido, Gyaku Te Jutsu and others, but it is a unique style with a unique approach all its own. I've studied Kyokushin. They concentrate on few techniques and employ full contact. The techniques are indentical. The approaches are different. Gosoku Ryu is taught Japan Style, not Okinawan, even though it contains Okinawan elements.

It's a hybrid. Gosoku Ryu is a combination of Japanese Shotokan and Okinawan Goju Ryu, much like Kyokushin.

Ranks have always been up to 10 th Dan, only in the bujinkan has Mr Hatsumi preferred to create a sensation of a 15th dan.

slow pacing does wonder, he allows his bones to naturally deal with the many micro fractures that he endures on a daily basis from hardening , that alongside a form of medicine or traditional remedies over a long period of time allows ur body to naturally adapt over any hardship and in a way evolve to accommodate itself to this newly introduced harsher stimulation......but then again it must be practiced slowly with patience over a long period of time ( otherwise it backfires badly)

A good idea. I've no doubt that you CAN train correctly to achieve hard fists like he has... but you better know the correct methods for the conditioning, as well as rest and recovery. Otherwise, you can seriously destroy your hands.

I cast no aspersions on his ability to kick the ass of many other 10th dans, I am more questioning the long arduous paths many are forced to take in the uchideshi system to learn "secrets" ,when talented people such as Kubota and oyama (and many in tai ji, xing i, shaolinq, etc legends) quite clearly learned greatly by copying , and at quite a young age too. Perhaps they need to embellish their history a little to get their foot in the door of credibility - I just wish they didn't.
