"One of them would be dead... and that's against the law". Ha Ha so many great lines in this classic, and Bronson delivered them brilliantly."Probably one of Corey's new tricks" is another.
Met Tak Kubota in 1983 at the LAPD Academy soon after I graduated. He showed me a few techniques. He was short with a solid build. His hands were like 2 hammers. Very nice man.
I like fights like that. No stupid sound effects, people jumping 50 feet in the air, or twirling like a football to the ground when they get hit. This looks realistic.
i agree. every movie fight in the last 45 years has that "WHOOOOSH, SPLAT" sound with EVERY punch, kick, jab etc. sooooo fucking FAKE!
I trained under a student of Kubota Soke in college and it looks like a legit sparring session (60-80% energy, no hits with real intention) with that guy, who is also probably a legit black belt they used for this scene.
The moral is don't disrespect the old school because you'll lose. In any area of life.
I just saw this on the tv during the day only the end and went crazy. Loved it.
Old guy was a beast.
Tak Kubota. Founded his own style of Karate.
@@stridelighter Gosoku-Ryu Karate 😊
chinese boxing can defeat any of his barbaric tricks!!
Still is.
the hits to the plexus (the zone a little above the abdominal area) are in my opinion the hardest if not brutally damaging hits that you can receive from a fighter/bully etc. , especially if you're not paying attention during the conflict! Am I right?
A spinning back kick to the liver will drop people in an efficient manner.
Imagine Tak Kubota fighting Toru Tanaka , with the winner fighting Bolo Yeung.
This is very realistic because Kubota Soke could easily kill you with one arm.
I saw this on TV when I was a kid and my dad was channel surfing. I’ve always remembered it but have never known what movie it was from. Now I know! Thanks!
"Never EVER under-estimate your opponent" (from Power Punching Secrets)
I agree!!!! O hope 14 years layernu are doing ok!!
This is the scene I remember from this movie.
Charles B and JMV looking like father and son
The awesome old guy always wins...end of story.
I guess Yomoto was Miyagi Dojo, but when the other guy disobeyed the Rules- He became Cobra Kai and Showed no Mercy to his Opponent.
he didn't secret drum technique. if do right, no can defend! bitch,
I was there! I studied under Tak Kubota the time this film was made, and ate the film-crew's food while they were shooting it.
I was there as well. Front row at 2 second mark. Far right. Purple belt at the time. :)
Love this version of the mechanic. The reboot is garbage
blindjustice316 EXACTLY
Very rarely does a reboot ever stack up to the original.
you are so right my friend, amazing! i was thinking the same thing as i was watching this scene for ,like, the 50th time.
Of course, in real life : this 'Kori' character wouldn't be able to even get near the Japanese master !
Soke Takayuki Kubota ~ 10th Dan ~ the founder of the Gosoku-ryu style of karate, and the founder and president of the International Karate Association ~ and He also held black belt degrees in judo, aikido, kendo, and iaido.
One of my favorite movies. I would love to see a remake but I'm afraid they would ruin it.
They remade it AND THE RUINED IT.
LOL… so true
this your place pettibone?
@WastedChildhood
that was one of the key shots that old-school boxers & bare knuckle boxers shoot for. That's one of the main reasons for their different stances. They throw jab & then really drop bombs to solar plexus and try to hit the liver and spleen when they can.
I wish the full movie was about this. I wish someone would make a karate or Taekwondo type movie only about this kind of stuff.
The Karate Kid
Kuro Obi (Japanese, but with English subtitles)
i love this movie....punk.
I sparred for 8 years .And the sparring looked typical to what i did .Only thing i can fault is when sensei put 2 of us together to spar like tbat and whole class sat down , he drummed it into us that once we knocked a guy down we did not stand up and wait for him to get up , we kept on attacking the other guy untill he shouted yame ( stop ) and even then we used to get so hyped up he sometimes had to drag us apart .
My point is once he knocked him down he stood back and let him get up .
This film has a great soundtrack by Jerry Fielding
jerry fielding SUCKS!
Bruce lee was alive back then.
When you think about it, the end of the movie had the same result as this scene (well not exactly the same result).
@dukeofkbs Agreed, especially the opening scene with Bronson getting out of his car.
Too bad JMV had to kill CB at the end of the movie they made a good Buddy team and could have gone on to make many more films together.
Totally agree!
Gosoku Ryu, the style of James Caan.
He was a long time student of Tak Kubota.
Back when karate clubs didn't give black belts to ten year olds, teach a lot of watered down rubbish that had no use on the streets, and when senseis were the real deal. I attended an English version of a Macdojo in the nineties and I'd have been better off learning line dancing.
@Barbupecheur Yeah, it's meant to look like a controlled fight where they don't hit each other, at least until Cory "sucker punched" him (or "sucker chopped him" :-) ).
please answer me what the name of the ball that Arthur Bishop is tightening and that it is made
Don't know the brand name. Try looking up "stress ball".
No name ... it's a ball of wax.
"Sometimes you have to hold the mark."
Stallone is thinking about doing one soon...what do you think?
"He beat his ass 'til times got better!"
They hit each other- how are they still alive?
Coy was an asshole. You don't fuck with guys like Yamotto!!! 1:48 Steve: You haven't said anything since the match. He literally murdered that guy! Yes what he meant was he got the shit beat out of him.
he had new tricks, PUNK!! and his helmet hair protected him!! yammommoto was an old bitch!! DAMN YOU!!
So today's remakes contain new scenes, that are sort of an insult to the old CLASSICS...
Maybe sucker punching an Old Master wasn’t the best use of his ‘ new techniques’
Great show. The remake is just as good!
video games seem to have disproved that last part.
Possibly the worst choreography in history...but still my favorite movie!
The best hitman movie
@ncblkking252, anybody breaks your arm, doesn't matter if their blue, you'd probably kick the crap out of them too. LOL
So did Yamato kill Korie?
Doubt it. He probably spent a longgggg time in the hospital though...
Is that Robert Wall?
Hank Hamilton.
bronson was wearing a judo jacket
The thick-style uwagi is also the norm in Aikido, jujutsu, some schools of kenjutsu, etc. One of my karate teachers used to wear one when the weather was cold. (We had a heater in the dojo, but he rarely turned it on.)
@@seikibrian8641 I think a judogi would be more durable for sparring involving clinching, I had a few sleeves ripped on my karate gi back in the day.
No mats, just throwing bodies down on the hardwood floor?
My mind misses training on hardwood floors, but my knees say _"hell no"_ gives us some nice tatami mats to train on.
Wait a minute! Are you telling me that Takyuki Kubota is 38 yrears old in this scene?
Yes, but his hair was greyed to make him look older.
Did Cory die?
No, but the actor, Hank Hamilton, needed medical care after the fight scene.
Rebel Patriot really? What for? He actually got hit for real?
I'm sure he felt like it.
@@stridelighter it's so lame that the remake didn't have this kind of scene in it.
@@MaharlikaAWA True that. If it did, Jet Li would not be as intimidating as the old master in this movie.
HHmmm...might be ok.
yamoto is a mofo!
This is the real thing. I found that I always had to explain to Main Land Americans thar real Karate is not what you see in the movies. Most times it is ugly and quick. Some styles in Japan and Okinawa have grabbing techniques in their style and wear a Judo Gi top and Karate pants for both practice and competition,
I totally agree with you sir..
please answer me what the name of the ball that Arthur Bishop is tightening and that it is made
Shinja Okinawa yes I understand that most people don't ...
@@victorsoller4143 It's a ball of wax that he squeezes to strengthen is grip.
As I agreed with someone else already in a different chat, we lost the real path of karate and got used to the point fighting system. Mr Kubota's style is very fast and deadly. Something totally different to sports karate...
That's a stereotype
so is yo mammy, bitch.
Well of course they'd ruin it, name one hollywood remake in the past few years that was better than the original. I'm dreading the release of 'Speed Racer' - boy, does that look corny.
I had to see this again. This was the worse fight scene I have seen in years. It was phony beyond belief. The tall guy especially. He was unbalanced, slow, and lacked power. God bless the old guy. His style left a lot to be desired, the japanses forms are inferior to the korean. I'm just a lil old 5th dan TKD. the white guy, at best would be a yellow belt in the schools i taught at.
