    Summary
    Yes I should have confirmed that it was 2002, I pretty much knew it was but was doing 4 other videos yesterday and was mentally fucked :S
    This game was and still is amazing fun, it's pure fun tbh, once you play you can't put it down, not often you see that nowadays. it keeps you in the zone all the time, but at the same time it gives you time to get your shit together, the pacing and level design are just unmatched compared to modern games. When you finish this game you have amazing memories from certain levels, I had so many flashbacks as I was playing this again, it was simply awesome.
    The gun play is sublime, spraying the enemies never gets old and the brutality of the map design makes sure that you nearly always get out gunned and have to fight for your life. Modern games are way more forgiving with their blind enemies and that stupid red bar above your head which tells you that an enemy is looking at you and will see you in 3 or 4 seconds. Then when he sees you he shouts "hey you" and only then he fires :) In MOH it also has a mechanic to let you know an enemy has seen you, it's called a bullet in the face, regardless of how far away they are, it's so realistic in that sense.
    The music and voice are unmached but what do you expect from Stephen Spielberg :)
    Multiplayer though was it's crowning glory, never before have I enjoyed a game more in multiplayer than MOHAA, I am thankful I still have my videos from 2002 even though they are in shitty resolution recorded using a VHS video recorder after broadcasting a signal to a portable TV using a TV card :) I certainly don't miss them days :) But the multiplayer was amazing, I am grabbing a 20 player server this month to see how the old hand eye coordination has suffered over the last 15 years, lots probably.
    And finally am not saying all modern games are shit, they are not, but I just wish they would look at games like this for inspiration and stop treating gamers like morons.

      I left a similar comment. SOF was 2 years older than this, had actual damage feedback (you could shoot limbs/heads off) and had a tilt so you weren't having to peek-a-boo round corners like in this game.
      The only thing about AA better than SOF was the Omaha beach level and the setting. SOF wins for realism, gunplay etc

    There's one thing you forgot to mention, Mack. This game had 2 amazing expansion packs where you definitely got your money's worth ten times over. Each pack added a whole new campaign, new weapons and a bunch of new multiplayer maps. In the current DLC system you will never ever find that amount of content anymore for that price. Now they make you pay 20 bucks for only 4 new multiplayer maps (most which are just reskins). MOHAA Spearhead was probably my favorite FPS ever.

    I'm very happy that someone agrees that this is still a brilliant game. Back in the day it was something amazing.. not just a game but an experience. It has everything you'd want WWII game to have. Ofc it's not too realistic and it's indeed most of the time very linear, but not too often 15+ years old game can stand against new AAA titles. This was THE PC game of my childhood and it makes me very happy that you remind people of this. And I also hope some new players buy this and get the "This is what a good game looks like" feeling.

  • @DevastatingDave
    @DevastatingDave 7 лет назад +2

    MOHAA is GOAT. Cut my online fps teeth in that game. Had some excellent times in clan matches and just pubbing alike. NOTHING in any kind of modern game beats being the last on your team in objective and slowly creeping your way around V2 picking the other team off one by one, or sneakily setting the bomb and sniping them as they come in for the defuse! This game needs a remaster and a healthy community again, I miss it so :'(
    Also, Mack. Have you ever played Darkest Hour? Its a super old mod for the first Red Orchestra thats still being played and updated today. Theres a big update due out next month in fact thats going to add a squad system and suchlike. Although it plays quite differently from MOHAA, and it's not perfect, I think you might appreciate it. As RO is only £6.99 on Steam and DH is free, I'd definitely say its....Worth A Buy ;)

    Call of duty and Medal of honor were both done by the same people

    -Age of Empires 2 (which, again, people still play)

    This is without a doubt one of my all time favorite games. I replay it often. But Mack, you may find this interesting to learn. The guys who created Call of Duty and the studio Infinity Ward, Jason West and Vince Zampella, are the same guys who made this game. They were lead developers at the EA studio that made this. After MOHAA came out, they left EA to form their own studio and then made Call of Duty. The first two Call of Duty games are so similar to this for that reason.

    I really miss the quality of the gameplay in older games, specifically from the early 90's to the mid 2000's. Take a stealth game like Splinter Cell for example, the AI is hard and you really had to know what you were doing. Nowadays many games are hand holdy showing you where to go and what to do, making it casual so that a child or a grandma could play it, and that's what is killing AAA gaming is it's accessibility.

      @Starfals 7 лет назад

      Original. We had teams of 4 players for some of the tournaments. I'm not sure why, but that was the most epic time i ever had in a FPS. Sure, I loved Doom,Quake, Half Life and the first 2 CoD games, but nothing else gave me that strange feeling of being excited to play.
      The only game that almost got close (sometimes even passed) was Battlefield 1942. Do you remember the American Bar weapon? In both BF42 and MoH, they had the same weapon, the same feel and sound. Until DICE nerfed it to the ground because it was far too powerful in BF. You could take down an airplane with a single mag!
      P.s. I doubt we crossed paths. I wish we did, because i met a lot of cool people like you during the matches. Heck, my clan was even called (SAZ), so it could of been funny to see a SAZ vs SAS :)
      Back then, it was all about the big "internet" cafes, locally connected gaming PC's and all. Thats why we had to move from 1 town to another. The net was only good enough to check your email. Its kind of weird to think about the pre good internet/youtube days ;p

    Really wish we had more fps games these days like this. This + Goldeneye had something about them that still make them super-fun to play to this day.

    MOH:AA Original Release date was January 2002 in USA Mack. You were probably looking at the Battlechest release date. MP was so fun for this game back in the day.

    MP demo which consisted of 1 map came out for this late 2001 and it took me most of the evening to download it and i then played it all night.
    Ah christmas 2001......i got RTCW and AVP2 and 1 month later bought this...truly golden days for FPS if not PC gaming.

    I love this game! one of the first I ever played, grew up playing this for many years, have much more vivid memories with this over the first call of duty. Allied assault did come out in 2002, but the released they war chest collection in 2004. Mack I agree with some of the mates down below, you need to play the brothers in arms series. It's a tactical squad based ww2 shooter, with a good story, with locations faithfully recreated from the time. they tried to make it quite authentic, and I think for the most part they did a fantastic job.

    Excellent review!
    Minor correction: Steven Spielberg, unless I'm wrong, was only involved with the original "Medal of Honor" on PS1.

    This was a good game with a criminal difficult end. The winter maps can best be played around Christmas to have that snowy feeling. Also fun that you be a tank for some periods.About the PC remark: indeed PC's back then weren't as good as today's, still there were already beefy dedicated GPU's like the Ti 4600.

    Mack what you don't understand is you can't kill a person with two bullets. Games nowadays require you to use 6-10 bullets per enemy making the game more realistic and immersive.
