Let me see if I've got this straight - the single-player campaign constantly takes control of your character so it can push the horrors of war in your face. The multiplayer then "challenges" you to jealously watch others open lootboxes on those same casualty-strewn beaches so that you can increase your social points and maybe score better loot in your own lootboxes. it could be fun, you just have to have the right expections. for me, fun isn't about switching off my brain, for an easy hand-holding experience, where I literally doesn't have to improve on myself/skills or use my brain to figure something out. as I see it, it's a perfect marketing/product scheme. accessible to anyone (5-6 years olds too) and so dumb, that onlyy those take up server space , who are dumb enough to enjoy it, and here comes the catch, smarter people doesn't really tend to buy lootboxes. overall, I wouldn't even call this a game, becouse mechanics and design vise it's barely an excuse, BUT it's a great platform for selling virtual shit witch you didn't even have to produce :D

I remember MoH Frontline, Normandy Landing as the moment you swam out of the quiet muffled sea onto the beach that had become a war zone and just seeing and hearing hell. Running from point to point, trying to rescue those men that where pinned down, and all around you there a bombs going off, people getting gunned down and you knew you have a job to do, but you couldn't help but pause to look at the slaughter of war and while you were pinned in cover, listening to the NCP tell you your next objective, you couldn't help but turn away to see the the madness that was happening around you. Great Mission, really set the tone of the game.

Can't expect much from CoD as far as accuracy but they, admittedly, make fun multiplayer. As technology increases, developers are gonna increase the amount of cutscenes/cinematic events. Gaming, back in the day was a result of lacking technology so they made up for it with extremely immersive games. Now, it's just not cost effective anymore.
First of all top video. It's very sad to see the state of the two biggest FPS shooters in Battlefield and COD. Both ventured into a historic setting which many had asked for yet they both completely bollocks it up. Why have campaigns suddenly become so neglected? So short? Unhistorical accurate? Full of movie cliche. Why does every WW2 campaign have to follow the Saving Private Ryan structure? Always starting on June 6th 1944 (5 years of war completely ignored) following a small unit of men (Always American) as they go fall rambo across France and Germany usually going on solo focused missions. Why not have full on assaults involving entire regiments or divisions? Why always such small individual based mission? Leave that to assassins creed ffs. So few missions that can be completed in a matter of hours, how does that justify the price tag? At least stretch it out or include several different campaigns. Do it similar to old COD's where there were campaign missions for the British, American and Soviets. And what's with the historical inaccuracy and political correctness that has become so apparent? It's doing a disservice to the actual events that it's trying to portray. What is the point of campaigns anymore...

ACG is maybe honest, but he often fails to address the most important stuff, like immersion, and that the game plays all the fun parts for you and abrupts your play so you loose the feeling of achievements and engagement.

The scene with the jeep derailing the train had me laughing on the floor in complete and utter agony. Carriages flying off of the tracks, crashing through any building where they can show off some hollywood destruction, one almost crushes you just after a carriage with a gas tank explodes for no reason, then another carriage comes out of nowhere soaring through the air like a bald fucking eagle and just obliterates a watch tower.
Why are devs still doing the forced stealth missions? It's a well known fact by now that 99.99999% of gamers HATE these missions. When people say they want variety in the SP campaign, they don't mean they want shit mixed in with the good stuff...
I've gotta say... I loved COD 4's Prypiat stealth mission. Crawling around in a ghilie suit, i thought it was great. Although rarely are those types of missions done right
With COD4's mission if you messed up you got punished and you couldn't just run through like a headless chicken. Also the setting is great and not some generic European building.

Same here! COD first 2 games were great but then on they just look more or less the same, made in the same way with some different graphics, jumps and packs, whatever... I had my suspicions that this would be a flop as well, at least to me! Sure, I had fun playing most COD’s but felt I had the same game as before with new scenarios and a different story. Great to see the series back to WW2 but I had hopes for the old multiplayer style with 60/80 players in total mayhem instead of small maps with fast closed action! No go! So I won’t buy this one as well, didn’t buy the remastered COD’s so this is the third cod I will pass! ;) I also hate cutscenes, why stop me from having fun playing the game and watch a small movie I don’t really care for? Many games have this nowadays! Disappointed as well... :( Thanks as always for a great review and advise, I share some of his rants about gaming these days, wonderful work in CGI, ofc, but sh*tty games in the end! You meant a late Panzer IV, with the long 75mm gun. (It looks like it has add-on spaced armor on the front hull plate too, can't be good for a already strained suspension system. The combination of 80mm of frontal hull armor and the long 75mm gun was already putting a lot of weight on a tank design that wasn't originally intended for anti-tank work in the first place.) xD I actually watched someone play a mission on RUclips where you have to escort and protect Sherman tanks and I was cringing. They had some nonexistent abomination turret between a T23 turret and the typical bubble turret that 75mm and 105mm Shermans have. 76mm gun, with a T23 mantlet (Gun shield.) and a bubble turret middle and back. Jesus fuck, can it even DEPRESS that gun at all???? lol I cannot believe even the most bare basics of historical research was completely lost on the people who made this game. xD

For a long time now Activision has been designing COD games to appeal to the 9-12 years old out there. Which is sort of ironic being that this is a game that is supposed to be aimed at a more mature audience. So as a result COD has become this very simplistic run and gun type of game which gives every possible advantage to the weakest players.
This has to be the most honest review of this game I have come across. Its shocking how bad each successive version of Call of Duty [Insert version name] has become, when compared to what most consider the best version released back in 2004 Call of Duty: United Offensive.
The worst part about having the control of my players "head" taken away from me during scripted sequences is its so shaky and "cinematic" that it makes me want to spew... I turn off head bob for a reason. Instantly breaks immersion and makes me not care about whats going on. And omg the FOV and textures look horrid!!! I'm willing to bet they spend more on ads than game development and it shows.
When i was playing on consoles, i had no choice but to buy ALL the so called 'aaa' games because there were simply hardly any releases. Even if the game was horrible i still played it with friends. Now on steam i have hundreds of games bought at a fraction of the price and i will never have to depend on these big companies.

I would not attempt to build your own unless you know what you are doing, it's not too hard but you can mess it up especially mounting the CPU if you get a difficult board clip. Alienware is overpriced, try Cyberpower.
estasak13 My opinion differs a bit from Mack's. I was in the same situation as you were a few years ago. Knew very little about computers. Honestly I say build it yourself, and never buy premade, as you'll overpay 90% of the times. There are so many tutorials on youtube that can guide you through PC building, and a bunch of PC builds to help you find what you need for your build and money. Do your research, and you wont screw it up, and feel accomplished when you're done building that sweet, sweet master race powerhouse!
I knew nothing about building a PC when I first built mine 3 years ago. 1. Research channels like Jayz2Cents, Bitwit, and Pauls Hardware....they do full builds from start to finish. 2. PC part picker is great for making aure your parts are compatable. 3. If you do build then do your first one with a friend. I wouldnt buy a PC premade unless you have no intentions on upgrading it in the future. I knew nothing about PC building...now I can install, upgrade, and troubleshoot with my eyes closed.
I highly recommend you check out a guy on RUclips called Tech Deals. He makes some of, if not, the best PC hardware/components videos. Explains everything very well and has many videos and how to build you first PC e.t.c, everything explained over an hour long video. Tech Deals is the name.
It's not a game I will being buying if at all TBH just dont like the fact that sadly for PC owners there are too many cheaters & hackers out there to take the fun away from these types of games :(

Thanks for the review! I do disagree with it which feels strange to say. For campaign: I enjoyed it a lot. I thought the characters were well done and the story had that somewhat grounded in reality feel with the typical call of duty grandiose feel. No, it wasn't perfect but I enjoyed it miles more than AW, BO3, and IW. When you said that they are basically interactive movies, you're right, but in all honesty, that's what Call of Duty campaigns have always been. Missions that lead you to grand set pieces. Yes, they have certain things they want you to see, that's how a story driven game works. The re-addition of the health bar in campaign has alleviated the grenade fest. Before with regen health, it was only super challenging on veteran because you were swimming in grenades, whereas now, you have to be a lot more careful than before. There are an abundance of health packs though but its still fun. It reminded me of the Medal of Honor series in that regard. For Multiplayer: 6v6 is Call of Duty. 24v24 or more is a battlefield thing in my opinion. If Call of Duty went for huge player counts in battle, it would feel so much like Battlefield and would be ripped in to for "copying Battlefield". I enjoy games with high player counts, but that isn't what Call of Duty is and I didn't purchase it expecting it to be that. Yes its 2017, but player counts alone don't make a good game. I do miss ground war though. For Zombies: Its great. Seems to be pretty universally enjoyed. "Greatest thing since sliced bread on console"..always have to dig at console users. I do have a PC and play Company of Heroes, Day of Infamy, Siege, BF1, PUBG, and DayZ, and iRacing and love my PC, but why do PC players have to constantly shit on console only users? Its like that annoying vegan kid in class that has to tell everyone he's vegan every ten seconds. Anyway, if you read this far, thank you for taking the time!

Can people realistically say this is worth the asking price when you can easily buy two fantastic games for £20 each and still have some money left? He always tried to convince me, that he was captured because he couldn't run because his gear was heavy as a brick. But one night when he was drunk he told me the true story. He was captured while he was laying a brick. He still had the oak leaves he used to wipe his arse in his hands, when all of a sudden a British commando of hrm 1st wallpaper guards stormed his bunker.

What's even worse is the microtransactions. I seen a video of how Activision recommend players to buy crates, supply drops etc by matchmaking the average person who plays the game a couple hours at night and doesn't buy them, compared to the guy who perhaps plays 10 hours a day and does buy them. During death replays online, Activision wants you to see what weapons that other player was using when they killed you so you might be tempted to give them a few quid.
Like Mac, I too laughed at the soldiers building brick walls. I mean, imagine seeing that during ww2, you're shooting a German and suddenly you see him building a brick in front of you. You would literally laugh out loud.
Going back to cutscenes bringing you out of immersion, this happens in REAL LIFE too! I went with a friend to a 'WWII reenactment' weekend, and it too, was TOTAL shite. Yes we were using real guns with blanks, but when your 'group leader' decided that you all needed to do a 'suicide charge' and die, you had to do it! I didn't want to do it, so a 'dead soldier' on my unit grabbed my leg, tripped me, and I broke my glasses. Total shite! No cutscene needed for that!

The game mechanics are crisp and enjoyable. The developers don’t portray the game as historically accurate, so they aren’t manipulating you.
it could be fun, you just have to have the right expections. for me, fun isn't about switching off my brain, for an easy hand-holding experience, where I literally doesn't have to improve on myself/skills or use my brain to figure something out. as I see it, it's a perfect marketing/product scheme. accessible to anyone (5-6 years olds too) and so dumb, that onlyy those take up server space , who are dumb enough to enjoy it, and here comes the catch, smarter people doesn't really tend to buy lootboxes. overall, I wouldn't even call this a game, becouse mechanics and design vise it's barely an excuse, BUT it's a great platform for selling virtual shit witch you didn't even have to produce :D

I remember MoH Frontline, Normandy Landing as the moment you swam out of the quiet muffled sea onto the beach that had become a war zone and just seeing and hearing hell. Running from point to point, trying to rescue those men that where pinned down, and all around you there a bombs going off, people getting gunned down and you knew you have a job to do, but you couldn't help but pause to look at the slaughter of war and while you were pinned in cover, listening to the NCP tell you your next objective, you couldn't help but turn away to see the the madness that was happening around you. Great Mission, really set the tone of the game.

Can't expect much from CoD as far as accuracy but they, admittedly, make fun multiplayer. As technology increases, developers are gonna increase the amount of cutscenes/cinematic events. Gaming, back in the day was a result of lacking technology so they made up for it with extremely immersive games. Now, it's just not cost effective anymore.

First of all top video. It's very sad to see the state of the two biggest FPS shooters in Battlefield and COD. Both ventured into a historic setting which many had asked for yet they both completely bollocks it up. Why have campaigns suddenly become so neglected? So short? Unhistorical accurate? Full of movie cliche. Why does every WW2 campaign have to follow the Saving Private Ryan structure? Always starting on June 6th 1944 (5 years of war completely ignored) following a small unit of men (Always American) as they go fall rambo across France and Germany usually going on solo focused missions. Why not have full on assaults involving entire regiments or divisions? Why always such small individual based mission? Leave that to assassins creed ffs. So few missions that can be completed in a matter of hours, how does that justify the price tag? At least stretch it out or include several different campaigns. Do it similar to old COD's where there were campaign missions for the British, American and Soviets. And what's with the historical inaccuracy and political correctness that has become so apparent? It's doing a disservice to the actual events that it's trying to portray. What is the point of campaigns anymore...

The scene with the jeep derailing the train had me laughing on the floor in complete and utter agony.
Carriages flying off of the tracks, crashing through any building where they can show off some hollywood destruction, one almost crushes you just after a carriage with a gas tank explodes for no reason, then another carriage comes out of nowhere soaring through the air like a bald fucking eagle and just obliterates a watch tower.
Why are devs still doing the forced stealth missions? It's a well known fact by now that 99.99999% of gamers HATE these missions. When people say they want variety in the SP campaign, they don't mean they want shit mixed in with the good stuff...
Well tbh the stealth missions in this game are a joke, you get a silenced pistol on one of them and can just blast through it.
I've gotta say... I loved COD 4's Prypiat stealth mission. Crawling around in a ghilie suit, i thought it was great.

With COD4's mission if you messed up you got punished and you couldn't just run through like a headless chicken. Also the setting is great and not some generic European building.

Same here! COD first 2 games were great but then on they just look more or less the same, made in the same way with some different graphics, jumps and packs, whatever... I had my suspicions that this would be a flop as well, at least to me! Sure, I had fun playing most COD’s but felt I had the same game as before with new scenarios and a different story.
Great to see the series back to WW2 but I had hopes for the old multiplayer style with 60/80 players in total mayhem instead of small maps with fast closed action! No go! So I won’t buy this one as well, didn’t buy the remastered COD’s so this is the third cod I will pass! ;) I also hate cutscenes, why stop me from having fun playing the game and watch a small movie I don’t really care for? Many games have this nowadays! Disappointed as well... :(

You meant a late Panzer IV, with the long 75mm gun. (It looks like it has add-on spaced armor on the front hull plate too, can't be good for a already strained suspension system. The combination of 80mm of frontal hull armor and the long 75mm gun was already putting a lot of weight on a tank design that wasn't originally intended for anti-tank work in the first place.) xD
I actually watched someone play a mission on RUclips where you have to escort and protect Sherman tanks and I was cringing. They had some nonexistent abomination turret between a T23 turret and the typical bubble turret that 75mm and 105mm Shermans have. 76mm gun, with a T23 mantlet (Gun shield.) and a bubble turret middle and back. Jesus fuck, can it even DEPRESS that gun at all???? lol

For a long time now Activision has been designing COD games to appeal to the 9-12 years old out there. Which is sort of ironic being that this is a game that is supposed to be aimed at a more mature audience. This has to be the most honest review of this game I have come across. Its shocking how bad each successive version of Call of Duty [Insert version name] has become, when compared to what most consider the best version released back in 2004 Call of Duty: United Offensive.
The worst part about having the control of my players "head" taken away from me during scripted sequences is its so shaky and "cinematic" that it makes me want to spew... I turn off head bob for a reason. Instantly breaks immersion and makes me not care about whats going on. And omg the FOV and textures look horrid!!! I'm willing to bet they spend more on ads than game development and it shows.
When i was playing on consoles, i had no choice but to buy ALL the so called 'aaa' games because there were simply hardly any releases. Even if the game was horrible i still played it with friends. Now on steam i have hundreds of games bought at a fraction of the price and i will never have to depend on these big companies.

I would not attempt to build your own unless you know what you are doing, it's not too hard but you can mess it up especially mounting the CPU if you get a difficult board clip. Alienware is overpriced, try Cyberpower.
estasak13 My opinion differs a bit from Mack's. I was in the same situation as you were a few years ago. Knew very little about computers. Honestly I say build it yourself, and never buy premade, as you'll overpay 90% of the times.
There are so many tutorials on youtube that can guide you through PC building, and a bunch of PC builds to help you find what you need for your build and money. Do your research, and you wont screw it up, and feel accomplished when you're done building that sweet, sweet master race powerhouse!
I knew nothing about building a PC when I first built mine 3 years ago.
1. Research channels like Jayz2Cents, Bitwit, and Pauls Hardware....they do full builds from start to finish.
2. PC part picker is great for making aure your parts are compatable.
3. If you do build then do your first one with a friend.
I wouldnt buy a PC premade unless you have no intentions on upgrading it in the future. I knew nothing about PC building...now I can install, upgrade, and troubleshoot with my eyes closed.

For campaign: I enjoyed it a lot. I thought the characters were well done and the story had that somewhat grounded in reality feel with the typical call of duty grandiose feel. No, it wasn't perfect but I enjoyed it miles more than AW, BO3, and IW. When you said that they are basically interactive movies, you're right, but in all honesty, that's what Call of Duty campaigns have always been. Missions that lead you to grand set pieces. Yes, they have certain things they want you to see, that's how a story driven game works. The re-addition of the health bar in campaign has alleviated the grenade fest. Before with regen health, it was only super challenging on veteran because you were swimming in grenades, whereas now, you have to be a lot more careful than before. There are an abundance of health packs though but its still fun. It reminded me of the Medal of Honor series in that regard.
For Multiplayer: 6v6 is Call of Duty. 24v24 or more is a battlefield thing in my opinion. If Call of Duty went for huge player counts in battle, it would feel so much like Battlefield and would be ripped in to for "copying Battlefield". I enjoy games with high player counts, but that isn't what Call of Duty is and I didn't purchase it expecting it to be that. Yes its 2017, but player counts alone don't make a good game. I do miss ground war though.
For Zombies: Its great. Seems to be pretty universally enjoyed.

I do have a PC and play Company of Heroes, Day of Infamy, Siege, BF1, PUBG, and DayZ, and iRacing and love my PC, but why do PC players have to constantly shit on console only users? Based on what I've seeing in the video, don't you think you went a bit easy on it? :O When it interrupted you mere seconds after hitting the beach, I couldn't believe it. What.. how.. in a game this big how many people had to sign off on that interruption? How many fucking people had to think that's a good idea? How can so many people with no fucking clue that they are doing end up with jobs making games?!
Then, the rest of the footage.. just QTE after QTE after QTE after QTE. How is there anybody left in the industry that thinks QTE's are in any way fun or engaging? Did the people that made this game get to the end of Far Cry 3 and think, "fuck ya, best boss fight ever!"??
I wasn't expecting much, but I didn't think a game could be fucked up so badly even if they tried.

Loved the Brick Wall
I'm German and my grandpa served in the 21st imperial brick engineer corps. He didn't see much of the war though. He was a pov right from the start. He always tried to convince me, that he was captured because he couldn't run because his gear was heavy as a brick. But one night when he was drunk he told me the true story. He was captured while he was laying a brick. He still had the oak leaves he used to wipe his arse in his hands, when all of a sudden a British commando of hrm 1st wallpaper guards stormed his bunker.
I honestly don't get how people enjoy games like this.

its good to see someone who obviously plays single player campaigns, give this games campaign the thrashing it deserves. Multiplayer focused players may think its an interesting diversion, but you hit the nail on the head with your analogy of how this franchise functions
I won't go anywhere near a game if I know its a Cutscene driven pile of wank. I hate games that try to be movies. If I want to watch a Movie, I'll watch a frikken Movie! Not play a game! Games are supposed to have "Gameplay" and lots of it.

They turned back in time to WW2 because Battlefeild did WW1, its just another lame excuse to make another yearly COD, they knew the last Cod sucked big time, so this was their last try in barrel´, i hope they get wrecked after this game´. As for Activision and their PC ports, they never gave a shit about pc´, and theyre sure as heck not going to start giving a shit now

The historical inaccuracies are so bad I made a 2 page list.
What's even worse is the microtransactions. I seen a video of how Activision recommend players to buy crates, supply drops etc by matchmaking the average person who plays the game a couple hours at night and doesn't buy them, compared to the guy who perhaps plays 10 hours a day and does buy them. During death replays online, Activision wants you to see what weapons that other player was using when they killed you so you might be tempted to give them a few quid.

Like Mac, I too laughed at the soldiers building brick walls. I mean, imagine seeing that during ww2, you're shooting a German and suddenly you see him building a brick in front of you. You would literally laugh out loud.
Call of Duty advanced re skin war 2 is not worth a buy.
Going back to cutscenes bringing you out of immersion, this happens in REAL LIFE too! I went with a friend to a 'WWII reenactment' weekend, and it too, was TOTAL shite. Yes we were using real guns with blanks, but when your 'group leader' decided that you all needed to do a 'suicide charge' and die, you had to do it! I didn't want to do it, so a 'dead soldier' on my unit grabbed my leg, tripped me, and I broke my glasses. Total shite! No cutscene needed for that!
Game on rails thats all.
I recommend playing on veteran or hardened its a great game on those settingz
