  • Want to leave low stakes poker behind? Join our 28 Day Bootcamp here: www.hungryhors...
If you're new to our channel, we are Marc Goone (the guy in the videos) and Gethen Jacobs (the guy who doesn't enjoy being in videos), and we are the co-founders of Hungry Horse Poker. Here's our background:
Marc began playing live poker in 2015 and built his initial bankroll playing $1/2 live. In 2017 he began playing full time in LA, where he quickly climbed stakes to the biggest publicly accessible games ($10/20/40). He began commentating for Live at the Bike and Hustler Casino Live, which allowed him to play as big as $200/400.
Gethen began playing online poker over a decade ago where he worked his way up from $7 Sit 'N Go's to $5k Turbos. During the pandemic he mostly played 1k and 2knl cash games online and won north of 8bb/100. He also began to play some of the largest private games in LA, where he regularly played as big as $400/800.
Gethen and Marc met in 2021, and quickly bonded over a shared approach to the game. In late 2022, they began offering 28 Day Bootcamps to help serious players climb to high stakes just like them, and Hungry Horse was born.
Why do we give away all this sauce for FREE on RUclips? We want beginner and intermediate players to learn from these videos and start winning NOW, so when they are ready to climb to high stakes they come to Hungry Horse to take the next step.

1000 hrs is about a third of a small sample.
Not bashing or saying you aren’t crushing the field, but to even infer a win rate off of ~25000 hands is pretty tenuous. Plus breaks…etc, we’re probably looking at 20/22000 hands.

@ I played an average of 20 hours a week which is quite a bit. And this is just my 2024 stats if you could read you would have known that. I made about $57 an hour in 2023 and about $70 an hour in 2022. Before that I wasn’t keeping track bc I was only playing about 300 hours a year or so before that. Not a full time thing at all for me either.

Watched your videos and learned a lot about low stakes cash game poker play. As a mostly fast-structure tournament player myself, I am interested in playing more cash games. Unfortunately tho, I live nowhere close to a casino. But yesterday was my birthday and I decided to make the long 5 hour drive both ways to play a low stakes cash game at a casino. I’m ecstatic to say I played 4.25 hours and profited $435 at a $1/3 game! I did it! $100 an hour!! And that was with an insane $9/hand casino rake! I know I wouldn’t be able to keep up that kind of profit over hundreds of hours, but for my first time playing at a casino cash game, I couldn’t have been happier with the result. And I owe a lot of my success to you sir.👍 Thanks for the content!

A lot of people are putting too much equity in suited cards and non-suited junk aces hoping to get lucky on the flop. They don’t take into account that on a full table, half of the deck is depleted at the flop. They will continue to play like they still have all the outs for their junk draws. If half the people at a table play like this.. it ’s tough to play low stakes.

From what I am seeing, 3betting is happening, and in some cases can be polar, but in general they are not squeezing k5s 100%, but do it sometimes, and they usually show it when they do it, because it is a pretty rare site. I think it is still better to call 55, and let the blinds enter, but if I see squeezes happening all the time, it might change ny mind. Great video as always

    Love Marc, but…
Where these low stakes (1/3 in my case) games where ppl open to 3X.
I swear, the average open in these deeper 1/3’s around here are to 12/15, and I feel odd raising to 10 in unopened pits, but I still do. Ppl open to like 13, get a caller and I’m in the SB with KQo, and I guess I’m supposed to make it 65 or something?Thats over 20% of my 100BB stack and when I’m called there is basically no maneuverability very often.
That isn’t to say the strategies here aren’t useful, they are, but preflop just plays so much bigger relative to what I see Marc analyzing.
Still, his thoughts are brilliant and tremendously helpful in many ways.
    Thanks!

You are right that it's should be in the teens in a 10% rake live cash game, esp against 3 and 4x opens, and obv people do defend too wide, but online population is not defending as wide as you make it seem.

I wanna know how (and maybe why) they add the cool "snow" to the slides, emulating film. I wonder if there's research that shows that people pay more attention because there's a sense of motion. Because that would be very much their M.O. to say "Oh hey, we get X% more retention through the video if we add that filmy snowy stuff to the text slides."

Taking your hourly which is roughly 54bb/100 (~90/hr) and your sample size is ~10k hands. You could have a run of 2200bb (11k) won over that span and/or 8,550bb (42k) over that same span.
If your hourly was 33bb/100 (~55$/hr) you could have a stretch of being up 960bb (~5,000 per 300 hrs ~$20/hr) to 7,000bb over the same amount of hands (~$115/hr over 300 hrs)
Heck, there is a simulation where at 24bb/100 winrate (~$40/hour) you can run up 5,800bb over 300 hours and/or be breaking even after 300 hours.
Of course straddles and bomb pots skew this way out of the equation. What can one infer from 300 hours? Probably not a lot.
This is a very good video on the insights of the current stage of poker at 2/5-5/5.

It depends highly on the player's game and variance. You can't accurately apply a variance model to his play without far mote information than he shared.
Just about any 300 hour stretch of my game is highly representative of thousands of hours averaged. Occasionally there is an exception for 100 hours, but I know it easily when I'm in it. This is with aggressive play and high win rate, so 300 is at the threshold of being statistically relevant, but the point is 300 hours can be quite meaningful.

Yo Marc! Nice results! Just out of curiosity - what was the reason you didnt play more than 900 ish hours back in 2017? You played full time right? I have no idea whats right or wrong regarding to volume (there prolly is no right or wrong), just eager to hear you elaborate on the volume question.

The squeeze comment is actually wrong. You squeeze the top of your range + good blockers/playability that plays well HU. You want to call more of the hands that dominate. So squeezing a hand like K9s, way outperform KT,KJ, as they like to play MW. unless your from SB and dont have a calling range, then u are linear. I think you actually have a very good understanding of live poker, but everything you are explaining is essentially how we arrive at preflop equilirbrium strat. We dont want to raise folds hands like KJs, so we pick K6s for example. Now is there better ways to attack live scenarios, maybe and depends on the pool. But everything you arriving at,is just pseudo GTO. The rest of the video i agree with. In terms of when players have more aggressive cbets we can just click our entire continuing range, and we just shove the shit back to them.

You have results for 2025? That's a neat trick I'd like to see how you did that.
Also while it does make it a little more tricky when people will defend a wider range of hands it's a good thing thsg they'll play trash that they shouldn't play. They're not Tom Dwan. They're probably not going to be able to tell when they can bluff you when they have air.
