- Meet; The Next Generation - Germany Leopard 2A8 Main Battle Tank. Equipped with a new engine and active protection system, the Leopard 2A8 will be developed based on the Hungarian Leopard 2A7.

Hello. My country Norway have ordered some of these. I was wondering, how does the Israelian protection system work? Does it detect and fire automatically, or do you have someone monitoring rocket threats?
for memory is uses radar (those large pods on the side and front of the turret) that track incoming projectiles. If one is moving towards the tank, it automatically acquires, locks on and fires a fragmentation round. This destroys chemical (HE and HEAT) warheads but also often causes kinetic penetrators to fracture and warp, degrading their penetrating power.
TLDR. radar shoots thingy, and blows it up or cuts it in bits
It fires automatically. Radar will detect incoming missiles or some and trophy deploys it's round.

@@Ehhwas if you're a keen modelmaker at 1/35 the 2A8 is guaranteed to enter service but the panther is an unconfirmed prototype.....the Abrams X looks real but i'm not sure about the Challenger 3 either...... there's the S.Korean K2 as well
