- Join Sinead, a tour guide with Free Tours by Foot, as she takes you on a walk through Notting Hill, specifically along Portobello Road through the Portobello Road Market. MORE LONDON WALKS - • Walking around London .
Our tour begins from the Notting Hill Gate Underground Station, which is located just to the north and west of Kensington Gardens. There are a few turns here and there but for the most part, we will be walking along Portobello Road for the duration of the tour.
Along the way, we will see quaint restaurants, vintage clothing, and music shops, and beautifully colored row homes. We’ll also see landmarks from some of the most beloved films based in London, such as Notting Hill and Paddington the Bear.
The Portobello Road Market stalls are mostly absent today but we will show you how crazy the streets can get. There’s a lot to see

Sinead, I LOVE how you take us to places off the beaten path, non touristy as well as the usual haunts. You're incredible!
Thanks again for watching, Vivian! If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
Hi I love this channel. Could we here about more murder stories in london during 1800s to present. But not jack the ripper or riddlington place. As most of us know the history on those. Look forward to seeing murderous stories. Much love Lisa xx ❤️ 😘
We will be mixing in some ghost, execution, and related videos for sure.
You’re gorgeous, and you do the very best tours!! I love this!!
Glad that you are enjoying the videos and the presenter :). If you haven't done so already, hopefully, you can check out our other virtual tours of London ruclips.net/user/FreeToursbyFootLondonvideos. There is more of Sinead there.
We used to travel from West to the Grove..they had late night shoobeens..
Lot of coke round there lol
Where's all the Portoello artwork?..
Crib food is much better than Italian..and cheaper too
I have lived in there, and guess what? I had Joe Strummer as a neighbour, we had a pint together with Mick Jones as well, on a pub on a corner of Portobello Road. Ahhhh!!!!! these where the days. I also got mugged by a Jamaican, by getting ash that was liquorice, I did spotted, but the guy pulled out a knife and pointed out on my throat, still, all experiences.
This is epic would love to meet up for chats
Thanks for watching
Sinead
I have to say i have been watching your tours from Canada. You are wonderful! Thank you so much for doing this!
You are so welcome Rachael! Thanks for watching! If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
Hello from Italy .. I support you my friend 👍+🔔🔔
Hi Sinead. I just saw the part where you were walking through the Portobello road market more up by the food and you had mentioned the Green Bay Packers. I live exactly 1 hour away from Green Bay Wisconsin. So now I have to say I am as if I wasn't before already I am thoroughly a lifelong fan of yours now
I could lose myself so easily in here for hours on end. The clothing, atmosphere, food & drink with amazingly friendly people. I only wish you could buy the clothing. Thank you ever so much Lass for the gorgeous Tour of Notting Hill & Portobello Market. Stay well, as always see you again on another of your fabulous Tours. Love from across the Pond in Ottawa 🇨🇦 cheers to the best Tour Guide hands down 💚😊
The first time I've ever heard of Portobello Road was in the movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks when I was a kid. It's where Miss Price, Professor Browne and the children go to find the missing part of the book of spells from the correspondence school for witchcraft.
Lots of love to all of your videos in ur channel!! They are all great!! Congrat!
JUST found out about this channel (and the other sister channels) and am absolutely adoring these videos. So grateful to live in an age where I can still experience this without the hassle of travel.
Keep up the great work!!!
Thank you, thank you. We will do our best. And thank you for subscribing.
I used to live in Nottinghill Gate!A lot has changed but Portabella hasn't
I lived in this area in the 60s at Sutherland Place. I went to a catholic school nearby.
18:10 didn't even thank you, how rude some people are. 😔
I believe Courtney Love lives around there now...
Hey Sinead, i really enjoyed your tour on Jack the Ripper. I want you to know how much i appreciate these videos. Im from California, and want to get out to the UK one day!
Thanks for watching, Michael! We appreciate you and we are happy that these videos are bringing value to so many. If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
I could live in this neighborhood I really dig vintage too and antiques, as always a great video from a great lady!
Good luck. For a half decent flat / apartment (one bedroom and small) you need around £2,500 (around $3,500) a month plus all the usual bills.
Interesting….I’m from Southern California and find this area to look rather “beachy” like our local beach front communities..which is also very pricy real estate. The shops look kinda junky and too touristy for me…..sorry I’m not really impressed.
Thanks for sharing! It's not for everyone. Have you watched the Mayfair video yet? ruclips.net/video/_zbylE75uhQ/видео.html
Love and understand you look at women's fashion/accessories, however could you do a tour including Menswear please.
I know you did Saville Row, however it is a little $$.
Planing to visit in August '23, so money will be tight.
Good idea! We will add it to the list. :)
Thank you for taking me on such a fun adventure!!!
i lived there for a year just around the corner from tube in 1989
I am also a huge Prince fan, and collect his vinyl! Nice to know I have counterparts across the pond!
Only one criticism! Might the presenter not address viewers so much as “You guys”? Maybe she doesn’t realize how frequently she does it.
Oh, she does. A few people have commented on it but many more seem to like it and have asked her not to change.
Very much like Old City, Queen Village and South Philadelphia in Philadelphia!!
Must visit some day Lawrie
You missed the pasta and melted cheese wheel. Love the food court by the overpass. Can spend hours just sampling the food.
The melted cheese wheel is the stuff of dreams! There's one in Borough Market, too.
Another great tour. You passed the top of Ladbrook Road where I used to live. Apart from Portobello Road and it’s shops and the associated street life it was also a great area for restaurants and pubs. Many parts were being rebuilt after WW2 damage. Life was never dull. Looking back it was during my time when access to the District and Central lines at Notting Hill Gate tube station became integrated.. Portobello Road however looks just the same. Your walks make up for my current old age lack of mobility. It’s so good to be able to see these once familiar places again. Thank you.
We are glad that we helped spark some wonderful memories.
This is exactly what I think of when I hear portobello road! My favorite song from bedknobs and broomsticks movie. Portobello road where the riches of ages are stowed.
:)
The red tea pot is featured in introduction to the minder series ,probably the best series ever made.
Didn’t know that
Thank you
My fave is Federer too, Sinead!
Can you do a King's Road / Sex Pistols tour please?
Oh, Sinead is definitley going to do a Sex Pistols video, or at least include on another video. She left them mostly out of her first London music tour video ruclips.net/video/ZsOPlWPuTGs/видео.html.
wow all that food im starving just watching good one
Thank you. Glad that you enjoyed it.
Great video, amazing place, sinead you do a great job, xx
So interesting to note the general age group of the people along Portobello Road. Everyone looks to be under 30. The uniform architecture of the buildings is also interesting. What a "cool" place to explore. Thank you again Sinead.
The queen's sister was a regular visitor in the 60s and 70s buying antiques etc I've seen many famous faces in portabello rd looking in the antique and vintage shops it's a great place to visit but as you said does get quite crowded
Hi , i last visited london about 6 years ago. My favourite street markets is portebello market because i can find a lot of my interest ie military collectables and miniatures. I enjoyed your tour and will follow u. 💖💖from 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
Glad that you enjoyed the video, Amior. If you haven't done so already, hopefully, you can check out our back catalogue of virtual London tours ruclips.net/user/FreeToursbyFootLondonvideos. There is more of Sinead where this came from.
@@ToursbyFootLondon i have checked. Nice tours and narratives. Many informative and educative history too. 👍👍
I always think of that song portabella road from bedknobs and broomsticks
I'll bet you aren't the only one to think this. Here's a link for those interested. ruclips.net/video/tr6oHPmdNbg/видео.html
NO it was NOT the Gate cinema, it was the Coronet next door and I watched the movie when it first came out in the Coronet, enjoying with the rest of the local residents recognising our mates working on their family run fruit and veg stalls or just wandering around. We all cheered when we recognised a local, ''Oy there's Lenny'' etc. You are such a fake.
It takes a certain kind of person to film in public and not run into trouble all the time. Thanks Sinead. Subscribed, and hopefully heading up to London next spring for a Portabello tour - we can even play your videos and listen to them on a walkabout. You are a great guide 👍
Thanks for subscribing, Elliott!
I discovered you two or three days ago and I can‘t stop watching your tours, Sinead. I love your Irish accent.
Will you a video of Diagon Alley? It was the shopping mall of Hogwarts wizards and witches
I hate that I never got to Portobello Road when I was in London...oh well, that's the excuse to come back, I suppose!
I know this isn’t‘ your normal tour, and it was really great, but you missed the famous blue door from the film Notting Hill.
Did you do a tour of the Globe theatre area near the Tate and Blackfriar's Bridge?
The Globe is on the list, Carol! :)
@@ToursbyFootLondon Oh, Thank you, will have to look for it again! Thank you for providing these tours. i have visited London a few times in the past, and marvel at the changes that have taken place in the past 15 years, but am dismayed that they are removing some of those old beloved timeless structures and replacing them s with glass and stainless monstrosities
Very interesting but sorry to say that your text on the screen blocks out pictures. Any advice on how to remove texts. Thanks.
Love this area. I used to live near Kensal Green and would walk through this area on my Sunday wandering. I used to buy olives mixed with chilies from there!
Very cool! Thanks again for watching, Nicola.
Decent shops , markets ,gorgeous houses & trees, goodness how I miss all this
Thank you for transporting me back home for a while this evening 💕
Those scooters are popular here in Colorado too. I sometimes let my evil internal voice suggest that my car needs a new hood ornament! (I virtuously ignore the voice, of course)
This was fab Sinead :) I really want to visit Notting Hill and Portabello Road now! x
Thanks for watching and for subscribing, Peg! We hope you get out to Notting Hill at some point. If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
Portobello road isnt what it used to be, antique stores also have less more interesting things nowadays.🤔 😒
Love this vibe!!! This would be my area!♥️♥️ Thanks!!
Of no interest to me at all - but I guess one needs to know where NOT to go as well as where TO go - each to their own.
We can’t wait for the next one and the next one and the next one…..so informative and entertaining, Thank you!
Thanks for being a subscriber, Don. If you haven't done so already, hopefully, you can check out our other virtual tours of London ruclips.net/user/FreeToursbyFootLondonvideos. We have a back catalogue of videos that you don't need to wait for :).
How many days would a first timer need to explore the most famous landmarks and cool places in London
The balcony behind alices was seen in the italian job when micheal caines girlfrind catches him with some other women you see them running down the street half dressed as she stands on the balcony throwning their clothes at them
Back in 69 I moved to the Fulham Road and lived there for a few years as an adolescent. Used to take the bus go to Noting Hill and down the Portobello Road every saturday and sunday. Noting Hill Gate and Portobello Road were fantastic then, busting with people, movement, colour and people with smiles, same in most of London town. I new most places in London, learnt by walkig almos every where. As there were no buses, me and my best mate used to walk down from Notinghilgate to Clapham un South London, to see our girlfriends safe to their respective houses, after leaving the youngsters dancing club where we used to meet every sunday. Its sad to see all the changes that have taken place . Most places have suffered tha same. But they are great memories. I studied at to Buckingham Gate (girls&boys school) for a while, then Henry Compton in Fuilham and finally Chelsea Secondary. "All my love 🥰 to old London and real londoners".
What a wonderful comment
Thank you for sharing
Sinead
I'm so glad I clicked play on this one! I just finished watching your Portobello Road/Brick Lane shopping video and was thinking that I wanted to see Portobello but the crowds were crazy on a Saturday. This video just assured me that there will be plenty to experience on a Sunday in a much smaller crowd. I'll be there in August 2023! Can't wait to take a couple of your tours while I'm there.
So glad you enjoyed it, Kelly! And we can't wait to meet you in person :)
It's where you can buy any old shitz!!!!
Portobello road, Portobello road
Street where the riches of ages are stowed.
This is a great little walkthrough..shows most of the interesting places in the area👍
But you stopped too early..you should have continued a little bit further and turned right onto the Golborne Road, where there are many more interesting shops and restaurants....Moroccan, French, Portuguese....The famous "Lisboa Patisserie" has the best selection if Portuguese cakes and pastries to be found in London😋
Next time we shoot there, we will. Thanks for the suggestion.
This is the second video of yours I have watch, the first being the "Jack The Ripper Tour" This video is the total opposite. Please don't get me wrong this is also a great watch. Your voice is so friendly and inviting. Looks like this was quite the walk. Stay safe Stay strong
We are glad that you like this one too, Mike. We have a new video coming out soon that deals somewhat with executions.
lovely. lots of shopping and eating😘👍 thanks travel with you virtually. no travelling right now.
Glad you enjoyed.
Thank you Sinead x

Nice to see the real Portobello Road. I only know about it from Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
Glad that you enjoyed the video, Caitlin. If you haven't done so already, you can hopefully check out our back catalogue of virtual London tours ruclips.net/user/FreeToursbyFootLondonvideos.

Welcome to the channel, Sammy!
Sinead could you maybe do a famous writer tour, where they live worked and spent their days? Please!
Was toying with the idea certainly
Oscar Wilde’s London perhaps ?
Thanks for watching
Sinead
I got engaged outside the Secret Garden in Notting Hill. The first travel book shop is in the film the 2nd one was the inspiration
That's amazing, Jayne!
Brilliant vibe…. not been there since the 60s!
Hi could you please use less ads in your upcoming videos? I watch all your videos but it's hard to watch when they are swamped by Ada
Hi Joshua. We'll look into it. RUclips now makes ads mandatory. We don't have direct control over it anymore. We can only request that certain types of ads are not used. They base their decisions on the types of people watching a video.
I personally use RUclips premium and haven't seen an ad for ages now.
Lol at your Morrissey faux pas Sinead x
Hi Sinead another lovely video I love your banter with the locals
I work in the area in a well known bar
I just wanted to say don't let the kind of people who count how often you say something get to you You do a great job with your live narration ❤
Thank you for your support and kind words, David!
I will be on portobello road next year on our visit to London England!! I look forward to it and I enjoyed this vlog.
We have a post that could help you plan your trip there freetoursbyfoot.com/portobello-road-market/.
Fab video today you lovely lady! One of our best destinations in London. Happy times.
It really is! Thanks for watching and for subscribing, Greg.
Another wonderful tour. Definitely a place to go, but not on Saturday. Saw places to stop in and puruse.
You are right about Saturdays, Cynthia! It's like running the gauntlet.

These stores being so close together remind me of mobile, Alabama when I was growing up. Downtown stores were close together at that time
Thank you for sharing, and the continued support, Rowena!
As always loved every minute of it .
I love what you do! In the worst of times you give us the best of times. ❤️
Thank you Maria for such a fabulous compliment

Sinead

My hippie soul would LOVE to visit here!! Another awesome and informative video! ❤️ in Tennessee
We hope you make it here soon. Hopefully, you can take a tour with us.
It's not hippy - nor vintage/bohemian - a few coloured houses and lots of commercial stalls does not Bohemia make - didn't see any 'Bohemians' on the streets and quite a bit of graffiti/vandalism which you will only see in certain down at heel parts of London. I was there in the 60s and 70s when Portobello was a proper antiques market - lots of Dell Boys there now by the look of it. In hippy days it was Kings Road (loved Biba) and Carnaby Street was where hipsters hung out and Hyde Park for concerts and 'happenings' of course.
Loved to see you chatting with locals!! What fun!
We are glad you're enjoying the videos!
Another magnificent video. Thanks 😊
So nice of you.
Vinyl is King and will never die.
So colourful. This video is amazing 🖤
Our pleasure as always, Tracy.
You missed the early Bsnsky piece “Made you Look “ as scrabble board . Tut tut
Sara
Gutted have to confess I had no idea
That’s the one area I don’t guide graffiti
Guess I’ll have to make a trip back ( any excuse )
Thanks for watching
Sinead
We hope you enjoyed the video, Sara. If you haven't already done so, hopefully, you can check out our other virtual tours of New Orleans ruclips.net/p/PLpNEdLF6RWV3oDPK7SD9GOttlhvaGBsh2.

During my trips to London I always stayed in the west end, seems I missed a lot by not visiting the various Boroughs.
❤❤❤💕
