This gives me nostalgia. In High school, I used to be in marching band, and one time at a band festival there was a bad storm that had rolled in half way through the day during the field shows. Everyone had to go below the stadium seats under the concrete structure, so there were probably 1,000 kids with some adults scattered around, all stuck together during a bad storm. Eventually, we all just started singing songs we all knew, and this video pretty much sums up wat it looked like. Easily my favorite childhood memory.
We did the exact same thing when I was in highschool 😂 I play saxophone and for some reason our saxophone section decided it was a good time to sing a bunch of songs that we had played on the bus while going to this competition. Then put low brass heard us and joined in and then some other random kids from 8 other bands joined in and then the rest of their bands had joined In and it was all just a lot of fun. It was about the same for us about 100-150 kids per band and parents included. The money i would pay to go back to those days. We need more of this in the world today... music brings everyone together...
I’d do anything to live a day like that
We did the exact same thing when I was in highschool 😂 I play saxophone and for some reason our saxophone section decided it was a good time to sing a bunch of songs that we had played on the bus while going to this competition. Then put low brass heard us and joined in and then some other random kids from 8 other bands joined in and then the rest of their bands had joined In and it was all just a lot of fun. It was about the same for us about 100-150 kids per band and parents included. The money i would pay to go back to those days. I just realized I’m really being a saxophone player by over explaining everything 🤣
Lucky you...
rain or shine I had to march and carry my giant ass Baritone Sax, in uniform, out on the field for the national anthem.
What an awesome memory! Your story brought a smile to my face. ❤️
This 1 time, at band camp... 😁

Its weird when people sing all together it sounded like 1 person singing
Harmonization
@@SugarSkullSmile harmonization is kinda the opposite... you would hear a lot of different voices different tones and different pitch... soprano, alto, tenor, etc... but i guess its hard to do that in a crowd this big
Actually singing in tune for once
Trick of the mind.
It didn’t.
Amazing! For just a few moments, strangers singing together as one! That warms my heart ❤️
I forgot for a second that there was a time when people didn’t have to wear a mask so when I first saw this video I was wondering where everyone’s mask was
That's ganna be a thing for years to come
I've gotten nervous about no masks while watching MOVIES produced in the damn 90s lol
Then I go oh damn I'm an idiot
@@ariwoodward same! I keep saying this but our generation is scared in this way
Only if you let it and only if you make it the topic for conversation
I was like why are they so close together! LOL. I got worried before realizing this was many years ago😂
One of those rare moments when everyone realizes we’re all in this together. This could be a scene from a movie
What my music teacher thought the audience was gonna be doing when we were doing our Christmas play:
My chorus teacher in 4th grade had us sing the song before spring break and there was a part where she was just like "now your turn!😀" and pointed at the crowd/parents..nobody sang anything besides some 3 to 5 parents 💀
@@zumiii_ rip lmao

There's a special kind of beauty in seeing moments like these candidly.
*I find it amazing that one may not be gifted with pleasant vocal cords, but when singing in sync with a large group it sounds like a perfect harmony - also, where is this and what are they doing?*
this is in washington dc!!! it was everyone lining up to try and watch obamas inauguration lol :))!
@@azra-ik4op Incredible that a nation who voted in Obama and gave everyone hope could then also vote in a total clown like Trump and have millions not even recognise what a total arsewipe the bloke is. This Trump actually congratulated Putin on his invasion of Ukraine......Can you imagine how fcuked up this world would be today if that clown was still President of the USA? 🙄
Harmonized sustains are what get me. No backing track and everyone just knows
Ultimately this is a characterisation of randomness. Everyone tries to hit a certain node with random deviation from it. The flaws cancel out and what stays is the correct intonation.
Yeah same as what Rollmops explained. Even if we say only 50% of them are singing in tune, the other 50% are all out of tune but hitting different random other notes, so the melody prevails as it has the highest number of people singing those specific notes
Watching this in the middle of a pandemic... made me burst out in tears instantly seeing so many people singing together!!

Wow, ... That crowed but all of them singing did help them. A moment they don't need "somebody to lean on" but need they need to sing. God bless you all.
When this many people could get stuck in a tunnel back in the day
Imagine:
Somebody has crowd anxiety, and the way they calm themselves down is by singing this song, and all of a sudden everybody in the tunnel is supporting them, and nobody even knows it.

Hands down one of the best collective singing covers ever
I first watched this about two years ago and it touched my heart then and it still touches my heart now. Just want to send love and hope out to everybody suffering for any reason right now, including the pandemic. Stay safe!!!
Bill Withers is just a legend. You can sometimes hear his music somewhere and don't even know its from him. His songs are just wonderful like he was
You just need a single person panicking and you have literally a national tragedy on your hands.
But this was 2 years before the Love parade disaster.
Something like that wouldn't be allowed anymore.
I think that is why that one absolute legend started singing, to cheer the crowd up. People like this are so important because of situations like these. Cant have only the negative thinkers and pessimists
Soooo beautiful!!! Nothing like music to bring people together! ❤️
12 years ago this would’ve been a nightmare, now it’s a dream. Look at all those faces.
I don't mind saying that after the shitty few days I've had, this made me cry in the best way. Thank you for sharing!!
You can gradually hear how the singing starts way up front and then comes down the line like sunlight. This might be the best video on RUclips. I’m talking too much. I should have just said “I love this.”
