I was walking down Edenbridge Dr in Etobicoke Ont a C.H.U.M radio car drove by I had a C.H.U.M Button on and won Sweets album Desolation Blvd. I think 1974 or 75. I was smoking really good Nepalese Hash then. It was a good day.
In Germany they were not underrated at all. In the early 70's they have been one of the most successful bands at all... and the permanent competition with the Bay City Rollers was one of the biggest subjects in teenagers world of music.

Music coursing through his veins, always upbeat, ready to smile -- and always, always appreciated his fans. Terrific stories that continue to surface about how just "regular" folks met him and how genuine and approachable Brian always was. Speaks volumes for his character.
But if you think about it, even with Brian's fantastic voice, this song would have been dead in the water if it were not for the talent behind him. Andy and Steve on strings, Mick on the drums. The four of them weer beyond amazing.

Underrated in what way? They had great success. Loads of hit singles. Unless you think they should have been some boring stodgy old rockers in faded denim.
I had the pleasure of working with these guys back in 1974 at Hull University in the UK, just 8 days after this video was recorded on the 6th Dec, even better than meeting them all I had the very enjoyable pleasure to stand stage side with Brian, Andy & Steve whilst Mick did his drum solo which seemed to go on for ever during "Man with the Golden Arms" it is remembered by me as one of the best memories of my past, God bless Steve, Mick & Brian the worlds missing some decent guys.
Mick Tucker, Ian Paice, John Bonham, Carl Palmer, Cozy Powell and Roger Taylor were the best 70's Drummer's! All British! They influenced all of the American rock bands!
What's really something is there was that much good music in the '70s that this band had to have a glam rock look just to get noticed when nowadays nobody could hold a candle to their music.

Brian can't sing now, because he is dead. In the mid-1970's, he was beaten up on the street and kicked in the throat. This affected his vocal cords & the alcohol did the rest. This was before all that. This was Sweet at its peak.

Every now and then I have the urge to watch a few Sweet videos. 9 when this one came out, I clearly had awesome taste even then and wow were they heavy.
I started playing drums at 12 in 1976. I am so thankful that I was able to learn from Mick Tucker. There harmonys were absolutely out of this world. You've got a band who every one of them could sing. A drummer who i.m.o. was the most underrated drummer in the history of rock. A lead singer who was pure gold, and songs that were arranged so well. The Sweet is one of the greatest bands to ever form. They almost sounded like Queen when the all sang together. I loved them then, and I still love listening to them now. Unfortunately someone, somehow mismanaged their contracts. They should have been multi millionaires after they sold so many records. Somebody got very wealthy, but it wasn't them. Not for as many albums they sold. Love you Sweet! Rest in Peace. Brian, Sfeve, and Mick. You are sorely missed brothers!

Another child of the 70s here, I was lucky enough to see the band in their prime. Confession time, I went expecting an average night of pop, boy was I wrong, they really rocked, I came away converted. Rest in Peace you three, forever missed.

Another child of the 70s here, I was lucky enough to see the band in their prime. Confession time, I went expecting an average night of pop, boy was I wrong, they really rocked, I came away converted. Rest in Peace you three, forever missed.

Still are. Andy is still going, and they still sound great. Although, they're not actually Sweet anymore, considering Andy is the only original member still living.
@@AFloridaSon I remember the cancelled Dunmow Festival around 2003 had Sweet on the billing. When I phoned up to ask which version, they told me it was BC Sweet! I couldn't believe how low some people will stoop for a buck.
I saw them back in the 1970s and still love their music. Pitty there not around today
