I’m just watching this now, a year after you made the video. I am on vacation and had painted some printer paper to scrunchie while driving. It wasn’t getting soft enough so I came to RUclips to see what I was missing. I’m so glad I found your video because it gave me so many great tips! I need to dig through my suitcase so I can add hand lotion to my paper. Thanks for your video… I subscribed so I can keep up with your other creative ideas. Here’s to more scrunching!!
Thank you so much for your Momigami instruction video. I did as you said and got a piece of paper and did my first Momigami right along with you. I am going right now and find a lovely magazine page and do the same thing. So happy to have found and subscribed to your channel.
Just found your channel, I have done this with brown packaging paper to use for junk journals. Didn't know it had a name. I used mink oil, my husband had for his bots. Love the texture and outcome. Never tried with printed paper, will definitely give it a try. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Tori: I love the Momigami technique. Have made faux leather journal covers using it. I tried oils, glycerine and hair conditioner and prefer the latter. I’m anxious to see what creative projects you’ll be showing us. Thank you for your inspiration! 💜😎🇺🇸
I'm watching phone in the dark, so I'm not doing it, but this tge first time I've seen it. My mate would say this is perfect for me because he claims people in my family always wad up napkins we eat. This is great!
Momigami is new to me, and I'm over the moon after listening and giving it a try with my tea & coffee dyed papers. T♡Y, I'm your newest fan. [Was up until the wee hours, crumpling paper, and watching your other inspiring videos] 🌅
I’ve learned something new today! Never heard of this Japanese Momigami technique to alter the feel and look of the paper. Will definitely try it! Thank you so much for sharing!
I love this so much. I hadn't heard of this technique until this video. Now I am already on my second piece and thinking of all the lovely slow stitching I will be able to do on top of it.
this is fab. I tried tissue paper, craft paper and water colour paper. all worked out great except the watercolour paper which I'd painted on previously and it fell apart quite quickly, though tried agsin with lotion (karma cream from lush, so it smells divine) and it didnt fall apart. completely hooked 😊. Will use it to wrap up some little presents.
It’s a lovely way to make up some paper for collage too and also to stitch into - I’m so pleased it worked out for you. Present wrapping is a great idea! 🥰❤️
Oooh I was waiting for you to do this video Tori - thank you so much, I feel really inspired and better still, a use for all those handcreams I have stockpiled. Love this technique! :)
@@KoolKookyKreatures Thanks for your response. Yeah, I will try and use one that keeps well. I just know most oils expire to some degree, so I wondered.
Ive been making momigami ffor awhile now but what i like is how you have tried so many different papers and show how it turned out. Nice to know that lovely scented hair oil will work nicely to add softness. Good evercise for the fingers to keep them soft and supple for crafing. Yes, i want to see how you make the collage with stiching...therefore Im a new subscriber❤ thank you for this video
So I needed some hand lotion about a month ago and my cousin gave me the one he uses. I used it once and I put it in my bedroom. I'm watching your video and I go to see if I have any hand lotion, and I pull out of O'Keefe's working hands, the same exact time you showed it on the video. How cool was that? 😂😅
Hi there - not sure about how archival it would be with oil. Anyone else have an idea on this? I would test a piece of it with acrylic gel before sticking. I tend to use Nori paste for this which is a starch based glue. ❤️
I love this look. I've tried it with olive oil, but even after 10 hours it smelled like the oil and felt a little oily. Do you think I used to heavy of an oil? and I am assuming it won't dry so it will end up rancid? what about using coconut oil...will that get rancid smelling?
Have you tried gluing down a piece of this paper (the kind made using oil)? I’m concerned that the oil will prevent the glue from sticking. What’s your experience with it? Thanks.
Grazie per tutti i consigli che ci hai dato in questo tutorial.Ora so cosa poter fare delle creme scadute😂...una domanda:il gel per capelli può andare anche bene?oppure c'è un altro modo per usarlo?❤
I haven’t used hair gel but my thought is that it would be too sticky? It depends upon the gel I suppose. I’d be tempted to give it a try though - you never know, it could work :) 🥰
Konjac is what miracle noodles are made from. Those gluten-free squeaky noodles when you fry them.😂😂😂😂 they remind me of purple reddish Calla lilies, and it’s the “corn” the stamen looking part in the middle of the flower that makes the starch.
Mine didn't work 🤔 I have tried this before somewhere on here, don't think I was impressed with my efforts last time either 🤦♀️I tried some coconut hair conditioner spray and hand cream. Ended up with holes, and it wasn't soft like yours, maybe I'll have another try when I am not rushing lol 🥰💗
I love momigami paper, but if it’s an inkjet print the ink smears, so I’m going to try an 11x14 sheet momigami the clean paper then try and print on it. In my mind I keep thinking the printer would flatten it back out🤷♀️
I would worry that the printer would get jammed . I tend to use painted papers - either brushed on or gelli printed. Or even pre printed journalling pages would work too - I’m going to try that :) 🥰
I'm sitting here trying while I watch you. It was going real good until i added the lotion. I think i might have added too much. I'm gonna try again without the lotion and see what happens. 😊😊
Each year we are sent calendars, one from the local nuclear power station (!) and the other from the company we rent a holiday home from. I don't have a place to hang them and it always seems a wast to throw them away. Now I am wondering about the possibilities!
I tried this last night with a sheet of glossy paper from a magazine. I didn't use anything like oil, lotion, etc. I wound up with a grey piece of paper and a ton of dusty residue on my desk, which I presume was the ink or gloss that came off the paper. It was pretty awful and disappointing. No one seems to mention this - and perhaps using oil minimizes that result?
I tend to use matte papers for this not the glossy ones. I look for brochures and leaflets and even maps that tourist information centres give out. I’ll have to try with a glossy paper and see what happens with it 😊
I always end up with a nice result using glossy paper . And the lotion/ oil thing is always part of the process . Never heard of monogamy not using some oil/ starch 🤗
Wouldnt recommend olive oil. It has a strong smell ;) Wouldnt recommend paper with to thick of an ink/glossy layer on it For fake leather people use glycerin thats why lotions do also work a bit.

@@KoolKookyKreatures no problem, I enjoyed it 🥰
So if you use oil wont it get oil on anything that touches it
It is worked into the fibres of the paper. You don’t need too much oil for that :) 🥰
I love this technique. Something I have been wondering though is does the oil go rancid and the paper smell bad or deteriorate with time?
I have had mine for quite some time and no it hasn’t got a bad smell but I suppose it depends upon the oil used. :)
@@KoolKookyKreatures Thanks for your response. Yeah, I will try and use one that keeps well. I just know most oils expire to some degree, so I wondered.

Hi Linda - I will be revisiting the Momigami and collage later this month :)
I love this! Could I use card stock paper?🌺
You could always try some and see how it works Delilah. As long as it is foldable easily then it’s worth a go :) ❤️
Would regular laundry starch, or corn starch work
Again - I haven’t tried them but I know that the traditional Konnyaku starch works so perhaps :)
Does the oil not interfere with acrylic paints or glues?

Coconut oil is good but have you also considered hand lotion? That worked really well for me. 🥰❤️
Will hair conditioner work, also scrapbook paper? Does it need dry time before using it? How much dry time if it is necessary?
I haven’t tried it so I couldn’t say - and almost any paper will work. Drying time is preferred but not necessary. A couple of days should be fine.
I've used hair conditioner and it works fantastic!!!
Ooh thanks for that :) ❤️
