- Samoa’s prime minister, Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, has exclusively told the BBC that the international community must come together to tackle the impact of climate change, as it has to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
As part of the BBC 100 Women season, the BBC has been to the Pacific Islands to see the impact climate change is already having.

So if the richest countries are penalized for sending their (outsourcing) work to polluting countries and the richer countries then have to pay a climate price penalty, who exactly will receive these benefits and why? So if the money goes to other "more?" affected countries, and the money is used to help them develop, are they developing more infrastucture that will only pollute more, or industry that will only pollute more or to individuals are given funds that we must trust the governments to 'control'? Well let's do the math, INDUSTRY has produced the pollution and the governments of the richest countries are going to dole out funds, are the industries then going to be fined, taxed, or penalized in any way? This is the dumbest equation that the taxpayers fund the unruly industrial behaviour that the governments allowed so that they can make profits, but the taxpayers are expected to have guilt and pay more money out to bail out the Industries? This is nuts.

Uh. I mean, severe flooding and erosion is a much more pertinent issue across the island nations. So social reform might not be the biggest issue, nor is there extreme capital as in other nations to generate extreme wealth inequality. So unlikely. But even then to prescribe these as misery to a population of self determining people's would be a little presumptuous.

@@guff9567 not even gonna lie, this is genuinely the worst argument I've ever heard. That's honesty, nothing rude. In terms of large scale corrosion, obesity will have literally no impact. This is entirely climate and ocean science (with pacific history entirely relevant too with extreme nuclear testing and mining of islands in the 20th century). Even then, international trade is by far the greatest contributor to obesity in the islands. Access to quality healthy food is entirely limited to native land resources (often what is left postcolonisation) while many nations (predominantly US, Australia and New Zealand) only provide the most meager and nonnutritional foodstuffs in trade with our pacific islands. Genuinely the rest of the world is what is hurting the pacific and her people.
