- Few Hollywood stars are as iconic and with such a successful, long, and storied career in film and television as the irreplaceable Elizabeth Taylor. She first made a name for herself as a charismatic young horse rider on National Velvet. She was only 12 years old. From there, Taylor went on to become one of America’s most memorable sirens, as well as a highly accomplished, award-winning actor. In the 1940s and 1950s, she starred in blockbuster productions like Cleopatra and A Place in the Sun. Not only that, she managed to accumulate an impressive collection of eight husbands, had four children, and was the face of numerous charitable organizations.

But Elizabeth Taylor’s life wasn’t all sunshine and roses. Behind the scenes, she was plagued by health concerns. She was born with scoliosis, a debilitating disease that causes curvature of the spine. This was the cause of her lifelong back pain. And remember how her eyelashes always looked so incredibly lush? This was because Taylor had a rare genetic disease that caused her to grow an extra set of lashes. Sadly, the condition leads to ingrown hairs, and she had to undergo numerous surgeries to remove them. She fell off a horse during the filming of National Velvet and had to have spinal surgery. And when just a young woman, Taylor was almost left blind when a rusty splinter became embedded in her eye.
The enigmatic star was prone to respiratory infections, which at least three times in her life developed into life-threatening pneumonia. In the most severe case, in 1990, Elizabeth Taylor was hospitalized for weeks and had to be put on a ventilator to keep her breathing. Taylor has actually had over one hundred surgeries during her almost eight decades on this planet, including brain tumor removal and hip replacements. She even ended up in the Betty Ford Clinic a few times, where she was treated for drug and alcohol addiction. In fact, that’s where she met her seventh husband, construction worker Larry Fortensky.

The Devastating Health Issues That Killed Elizabeth Taylor
It’s hard to believe this beautiful talent has left us. My older brother was very lucky to meet her in person, and get her autograph. This was during the time she was having lunch with Richard Burton at a cafe in New Mexico. They were both friendly, and happily signed an autograph for my brother. According to my brother, Elizabeth Taylor was the most beautiful woman he has ever seen, and her violet eyes were especially captivating.
I never liked her before. Now I love her. She is an inspiration for my many health issues. She’s been operated on 100 times. I’m only at 12, but I’m looking to catch up a little this year. I can sum her up in one word: Backbone.
She had an amazing career considering her numerous medical problems. She should have remained drug and alcohol free after her first time in the Betty Ford Clinic. She will be remembered for her perfume, her beauty, her ability to keep coming back, and of course her great talent as an actress! May she rest peacefully in God's Kingdom.
She was a stunning British actor, I never knew she had so many health issues, she certainly had a colourful life regardless.
RIP Liz. 👍🏴
She wasn't really British. She was born to two USA citizens in London, and she was of Swiss descent.
She was American born in England.
Beauty,Brains & Fortitude! Liz Taylor was always my favorite film star- National Velvet /Cleopatra were my fav films!
Suddenly, Last Summer never more beautiful and top performance…. Oscar worthy
Interesting fact. Jane Russel who was also an American actress from around the same time period also died that year 23 days earlier at 89. Taylor was 79
Wow, poor lady.... RIP Elizabeth 🙏⚰... love u 4ever...❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏😔😊🌹🌹🌹
She was a beautiful soul , and a gorgeous women . Life can be harsh . my deepest sympathies .
'The Taming Of The Shrew...'..
She was magnificent n inspiring...
NATIONAL VELVET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a beautiful Woman! Just love her and her Films!!!!!
Wow she just couldn’t catch a break when it came to her health 😢
Favorite liz Taylor role was wife of rancher Bic Benedict (Rock Hudson) in Giant. Love the movie and Liz going from hopeful happy bride of 20 to a graceful smart woman in her 50s. Think the movie is a classic epic that covers an amazing period of American history between to 20s and the 1950s.. Have watched it many times and will again. Movie also starred Rock Hudson, James Dean, Mercedes Mc Cambridge.
Wow changed my whole view of her for the better!
Hello Kathy
She's such a great actress I loved her "father of the bride", "who's afraid of Virginia Wolf" and "national velvet"
A Place in the sun was my favourite movie. I also loved Montgomery Cliff. 😍
Thanks for watching, Maria!
Sandy
My favorite movie of hers was National Velvet. I was in grade school and would pretend to be sick (to stay home) to watch that movie. We didn't have "recoders" then. We only had a weekly TV guide and I would look for movies I wanted to see ahead of time.
Yeah I guess I shouldn’t complain about my bald spot.
Cleopatra was one of my FAVORITE and the sandpiper ⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘
I read around the time of her death that she sufferered from Lupus. We share symilar names and the challenges of living with this disease. When younger I had ingrowning eye lashes. Numerous surgeries, damage to my different body parts, difficulty staying pregnant & nearly dying at my first and last baby's biths. Pneumonia, chronic fatigue, rashes, and the list goes on. I admired the fact that she fought it and managed to continue her career even though it risked her life. Because of her wealth she was listened to by the medical community something that a lot of Lupus surferes in lower economic brackets, could not get. Even now it can be a hard struggle to be taken seriously. She was beautiful & talented, and a great fighter, to survive so many attacks to her body by her body.
The Taming of the Shrew. She made Shakespeare sound like conversation. She more than held her own with veteran stage actor Burton. I think she smoked everyone on screen with her performance. She was funny and touching and brilliant. ❤️
I 💘 Elizabeth Taylor forever she is our Queen 👸💖💕💓💗❤👸💖💕💓💗❤👸💖💕💓💗❤👸💖💕💓💗❤👸💖💕she will never in our Book she will remain I. Our hearts forever and ever
Glad to know that you're a fan of Elizabeth. Which of her roles appealed to you the most?
Rest in peace,Liz. She was a beautiful soul!
“Tyler’s warped spine”??? Have we already forgotten the subject of our video? We’re less than 2 minutes in! Sad.
I loved her and Burton in 'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?'. I'm almost certain it was art imitating life for them.
Richard burton turned the tables on Elizabeth Taylor and left her for a much younger woman.
Hello
A beautiful woman and great actress, thank you for the information of all her aliments and surgeries, I thought my 10 surgeries are a lot, I know now I'm BLESSED!!!
Poor woman. She went through so much

@@taylorsmith3066 I am doing okay 😊👍 hope everything going good for you!!
@@graciesaccardo9363 Glad hearing you're doing good, I'm doing great nice meeting you here!!
Where are you chatting from if I may ask 🤔?
You left out her eating disorder (referred to as her diet practice in her book). Her health likely suffered due to the torture she put herself through with trying to stay thin. It’s amazing she lived as long as she did with the mental torture she endured. Rip.
A Place In The Sun was hands down her best movie.
Raymond Burr who played Perry Mason, played a prosecutor in the movie.
@@harperstacey9604 ::
He was a brilliant actor. He stole the movie. His was the only character who was terrifyingly. His talent was wasted in _Perry Mason_ & _Ironside._
Cleopatra was my favourite movie
She was mind blowing in Virginia Wolff!
There is not one movie, from 1942 and beyond that I haven't loved her in! She made the movies famous in which she played in Jane Eyre, Lassie, National Velvet......etc. her beauty and her talent is so apparent!
In Jane Eyre her entrance, walking down a staircase, is pretty memorable. You literally do not care about Peggy Ann Garner, after that.
NationL velvet..my favorite..
I could say that her life is glitters and glamour but it was also sad in many ways..
The greatest actress ever. May she R I.P. Bless her family, I grew up with Elizabeth and her family.
We agree! Thank you for watching our content. Be on the lookout for our next video!
She had some life.... And my favorite is Suddenly last summer
I’d like to see how nine doctors attend to a childbirth.
Probably related to her scoliosis.
Down a shot each time you hear "fell off a horse" and "national velvet".
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? - she and Burton were perfection! Suddenly, Last Summer really showcased her talent! Love that movie - all the actors in that movie were great. And Butterfield 8 was devine! Ok, I could go on and on! 😊
Hello, will you have a platform to communicate? I am interested in collaborating with you
A place in the sun and Ivanhoe 🥰 my faves
They're so good, Angel Fish!
I met her in the mid to late 70s when she was married to the Governor of Virginia where I lived. She was in a wheelchair.
Suddenly last summer tied with cat on a hot tin roof
All of her movies were great. I enjoyed a place in the sun.
I loved her in cleaopater and was and still am big fan of her jewellery collection wow
Thank you for sharing your favorite roles of Elizabeth. What other types of video would you like to see?
The poor woman only became addicted to pain meds because of her back. I also think that when she got pneumonia once, it became easier for her to contract it. The same thing happened to my stepdad. He caught a flu on a plane and then became full blown pneumonia. All his colds and flus turn into pneumonia. I think the same thing happened to Taylor.
cat on a hot tin roof
Butterfield 8 was and is my favorite.
My Female Friend Daughter 16 years old is very thin and has Scoliosis so, seems like that she will have lots of health issues when older...I hope not, seems to be very painful.
Damn. I thought I had it bad with body wide daily bouts of chronic pain.
I'd say my favorite is Giant
I would do anything for a young Elizabeth Taylor lookalike
specific year?
@@RomyElizabeth 1865
Cleopatra best movie ever she did,RIP 🙏 😢 😔 💔 😪.
While making this movie, she dumped Eddie Fisher for Richard Burton.
I can't believe this women live almost 80 years with so much illness
Her mother lived to over 90. But her dad, whom she took after in coloring, died in his 60s.
How awful for but she is the perfect example that nobody lives the perfect life
Sad loved her youth, wow poor think wow ouch; she saved one actors life
