I remember back when Tiffany released her version of this, I completely thought it was her song and my grandma loved it so much and then said the original was better😳😳😳
I was blown away when she busted out this vinyl and played it for me. It was my “rabbit hole” journey that took me to a whole new world of music to me!!! RIP to my wonderful grandmother. I MISS YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!😭😭😭😭
My grandma was pretty cool but not that cool!
When I first heard this, it was on a classic rock station on a stereo that didn't tell you info about the song or the band. Heard again recently in passing(also like 10 years ago in the movie Ted) and looked it up. Got the Tiffany version first and thought it was good, but not what I remembered. Next on RUclips results was a solo cover by the lead singer of Green Day, and immediately knew this wasn't the version, mostly because Green Day didn't exist when I had first heard it. So third in the results is this, original, version, that I was looking for all along for a very specific reason....the heartbeat. When the music and lyrics completely cut out for the deep heartbeat sound, it distinguishes itself from, even more than the already great singing and instrumentals, the covers and comes out on top, imo.
@@ArrowArchitect Exactly how I felt when my grandmother played this for me. It was unbelievable that such a hit was made way before my time that was even better than Tiffany’s cover. Tiffany’s cover was like a prime example of what the 80s represents but then when you go back and listen to this original, 😳😳😳😳 MIND BLOWING how far ahead they were in song writing!!!! It reminds of Marty McFly’s cover of “Johnny be Good” from Back to the Future! How he was playing music from a future generation. This is what this song did to me.
Vega: Welcome to the Sixties ‼️‼️👍👍✔💯💯
@@joline2730 Thank you for having me!!!🙏🙏🙏
My late husband listened to this when he was in Viet Nam. Want to talk about good music the 60's was the best!
Hello, how are you doing it's nice meeting you here.
Braw - bless you both!
Summer of 67...between jr high and high school... running wild thru the neighborhood in the hot evenings with our friends, listening to this song on the transistor.... life was simple and fun back then.
Saw them in 1972 was great.
lm
like;looo
Did you have a 6 or 8 xistor radio back then as this is important? ; I had an 8 and lots of friends:)
Transport me back too then "any" entity's are welcome to contact/contract me for this.
@Rick Schwartz, you nailed it. Different times.
You too! My time exactly between jr. hi and hi school. I fell in love with my first lady. There was a field behind her house that we would run through. My o my, take me back.
Blowing the doors off our muscle cars and blasting the best music ever. The generation of love.
Yup them were good times back then 66 now lot memories from back then
Hubby also introduced this beautiful song to me in 1978....soo makes me think of our early days together...we married 46 years this month God is good...❤❤
Congrats to you both. Best time to grow up. No cell phones no computers and the best music ever.
I've got to tell the story I'm 64 year's old at the time this song came out I was 7 8 years old fast forward to the age of 14 year's old I met a girl name Lee Ann I fell head over heals for her, but for some reason something about both of us wanted each other but something kept that from happening. Through out 50 years every single time I heard this song she was the first thing that came to my mind EVERY TIME. The year is 2023 on October 8th 2023 I looked up Lee Ann and found her. I've fallen absolutely deep in love with her and she has fallen in love with me. I've told her on many occasions this was in the making it was supposed of happened and I believe that 100% in my heart it happened for that reason and that reason only... I love you Lee Ann ❤️..... forever ❤️....
We who were teenagers at that time were so fortunate, to have had this music, sweetening our lives, we were blessed!
If you only knew how honest your bless highs go beyond and above your truth that a fortunate one once in lifetime! Beautiful Music!
Beutiful you one
Damn right y'all was! Had no idea this was live until I looked at the title! The sixties produced some legendary music
@@michellemybelle2716 it sure did
I WAS 9 YEARS OLD AND I LOVED THIS SONG
A pity that this generation does not know that this is the original song and the best. More views for this video😀🎸
I'm 53 yrs old I just find it out just now,,
My grandmother who is 67 didn't know that these guys made it
you are so right i have two kids dad what is this you guys are old.
This generation doesn’t even know this song. For those of us who grew up in the 80’s, the Tiffany version is better. I’m glad these guys wrote it though, because there’s no way she could have come up with it herself.
@@courtneya1705 I love the 80s like I love them a lot but the original is the best.
The guy on the acoustic guitar is having so much fun he is just a riot.
Looks like he's on something psychedelic.
I noticed that too. 🎉❤
They were upset the producers made them mime to their original song being played on air he was trying to be obvious that he is definitely not playing what you are hearing or singing in the background vocals etcetera
@@MrBigShotFancyPants yeah, a guitar without strings kinda almost gave it away
blissful youth---so entertaining
I've played this a million times, I finally looked at the screen and saw the guitarist lol what a vibe 😂😂😂
The guitarist sitting on the piano sort of resembles Howard on Big Bang Theory lol
“Tommy James and the Shondells” took the music to the next level in the music industry. He molded, our hearts and souls into the next “Level” of what was to be an even better, greater, next level of music”. Thankyou Tommy and your “iconic” band for taking us to the next level.
This is THE song that perfectly describes my senior year of high school with my girlfriend and how we had to “hide what we’re doing” because what would our parents say “if they only knew”. We spent many Friday and Saturday nights after games alone together where “the beating of our hearts was the only sound”. We eventually were married and together for nearly 20 years and had 2 amazing sons before we divorced. (Like so many of our generation). She was recently killed in a tragic gun incident and and I find myself remembering those amazing high school years, the great music, and just how very special those years were for us. We were the class of ‘69. RIP, S. You are missed!
Class of 72.....married my high school sweetheart....25 years together until cancer got him at 45 years young
Heart is with you Davey ~
Class of 1972 married My high school sweetheart also been married for 47 years. We went to a Tommy James concert in 1971 or 72 they were great just getting going Crimson And Clover just became a hit.
@@jackirodriguez8673 That’s so sad , sorry for your loss and that emptiness you feel...I am still with my sweetheart 44 yrs , we are one of the lucky ones to still be going
@@donr5593 Class of 71... had to travel 8,000 miles from home with the Navy to find my Filipina sweetheart. But all my classmates immediately know who she is at the class reunions. And at her 50th reunion I certainly stood out in the pictures like some random white guy accidently wandering thru the events. 😍
I 16, she was 15, she was special to me, every chance we got we would try to find a special place to be alone, it's a memory that will never leave me.
The original and still the absolute best. Tommy James and Shondells forever!
I still love Tiffany since 1987 didn't know till now it not her own original im only 47
Christi o fed cross
agree...... were it not for Ratcat's killer version

Still the original rocks
There is nothing wrong with Tiffany's version
@@robertw2930 iv always known it wasn't her song and I'm 40
Man, it's 2022 & I this is still a "feel good" song!! 🎵
An eternal groove.
TJ & the Shondel's rocked!
Billie Joe Armstrong of "Green Day" did a cover of this song, With his son's if you are bored.. "Check it out"! It's like a Basement pandemic Cover. 😀
superb
i od'd to it
OMG , my teen years. Who couldn’t love this
I think every kid that grew up in the 60s can relate to this song. That's what it was like to be in love in those days.
This is still a songwriting masterpiece.
This as well as Mirage both written by Richie Cordell.............
13,000+ likes and only 358 dislikes? I graduated high school in 1966 and college in 1970. Can you imagine a time when the radio was filled with stations all playing this sort of music? The music back then literally defined our lives, especially when I was in the Army. When I hear a song of some artist back in those days, I'll immediately have a flashback of somewhere or something I was doing at that time. Truly remarkable times. In our teens and early twenties, we hadn't the maturity or age to understand how fortunate we were. Only with 20/20 hindsight of 55+ years can I look and listen back and truly value what we had.
You hear the song and YOU do remember what you were doing when you first heard yhe song
If we only knew then what we know now!!!
Thanks for ruining the world because you didn't understand how fortunate you were :)

Bob Seger might beg to differ.
The original and the best! Great band, love it.
Hello Vianela, How are you doing?
The years 1966, 67, 68 and 69 : the more I see , listen to songs in those years I ask : how could have people heard so big an enormous quantity of wonderful songs ? I guess there were more good songs than people to enjoy them, more talented people than listeners... Thanks for the golden moment.
I was a teen in the sixties and was amazed at the string of new songs to hear. So many were fantastic, like this one .
1967........my last year in high school and before I went to college. Madly in love with a girl. Best summer a kid could have in high school. We meet nearly 50 years later. Great time reminiscing of what went on in 1967.
You can see how much they loved performing this song!
Best music ever made growing up and my kids introduced their kids to it and all love it!!
My Dad was gracious enough to let his 16 year old son take his Oldsmobile 98 on a date... it had a factory 8-track player and this was one of many. Those were the days my friend!
Tommy settled in Clifton, New Jersey. Ironically, my wife and i moved to northern New Jersey. We knew friends whose kids would "trick or treat" at Halloween at his house in Clifton. Again, total gentleman. If asked, would show his gold or platinum records on the wall. Not preening , simply showing them.
The man achieved early success, rode it, dealt with very strange business issues, (like Mob!), and is a Christian believer.
Back when Tiffany released her version, my parents wouldn't buy me her tape so I took my dad's Tommy James and the Shondells tape and blasted it in my room with my windows open. I heard it for the first time in forever on the radio this morning and it made me so happy.
The thing about Tommy's hit songs is they could come out today and still be hits. You cannot say that about most most 55 year old pop songs. He ROCKS!
Facts
Sorry, no way. they'd be laughed and sneered at. Todays kids have no soul and no sense of romance, it's all just out there for them to jump on and ignore the subtle things.
@@davidschmidt6013 Mostly, but Kate Bush’s 1978 tune Running Up That Hill sure got a lot of attention from the young crowd last year after it was featured on Stranger Things. My kids were shocked I knew the lyrics!
One of the very few songs that church organ music was an acceptable R&R instrument. Sweet Cherry wine, Crimson & Clover, Chrystal Blue Persuasion……..they really bring you back!
Comencé a escucharla en 1971.....pero fue un éxito cuando salió 1967...ALTO VOLTAJE
Loved this song since it first came out. Always loved Tommy James version the best. Saw them in concert at the Universal Amphitheater. They still sounded great live. ❤👍🎸🎼We were so blessed to be surrounded by so much great music as “baby boomers”❣
One of the world's most covered song's it's incredible.
My sister listed to this on her transistor radio, 1969 was a great year. The summer was exciting and the music was great. I was 8 that summer, a distant memory.
I grew up in the 60s and 70s and the music shaped who I am my brother was older so I tuned in to the later60s always makes me cry it’s the best
hello, how are you doing it is nice meeting you here..
I love the how the look on the face of the guitarist behind Tommy, the faces he pulls are wonederful
Grew up in the 60's and 70's and this was one of my favorite songs.
I turned 12 years old in 67 What a great time to be a kid.
It sure was
This is an awesome tune . I honestly don't know how they remember all the twists and turns that occur within this track. Definitely one of the most complicated songs you will ever hear , should have been a HUGE hit.
The first concert I ever saw....It was an awesome experience. What happened to this wonderful music. I guess I live in the past but it was such good times. 👍
The most underrated and underappreciated bands of all times...they were monsters...so many amazing songs. And perhaps tops 3 hair...the total package.i hope they got paid well for that atrocity that Tiffany spawned
Tommy is a really nice guy too. I'm good friends with his cousin. Got to meet and hangout with Tommy and the band. That was about 20 years ago and he still has it going on!!!!
*God was the music great and you thought the times would last forever.*
Used to really dig the Tiffany version until I discovered this original. Now this one's my fave, seems more joyful somehow.
The original and still the best!
I remember hearing this on the radio when my parents would go to work in the morning. I am 35 and just broke up with my gf off 4 years. This song gives me emotions I didn't think I had. I've had it on repeat for 30min.
First time I seen Tommy James live was in 1975 in a small Rual town at the Playland dance hall. That place was so packed a mouse could not sneak in. Was a great concert, but you could see the mafia drugs effecting him in a bad way then. So glad he found God and his power in the end. He looks better today than he did in 1975.
Wow
17 years old and spending the summer in the Haight what a groove, wanna go back please
I hear you ! Me as well.
I graduated in 1994 my friends and I all wished we grew up in that time. I remember when Forest Gump came out and Woodstock 94... We all wanted to be hippies sooo bad. We all dressed in tie dies and flannels (lots of color) good times!! but it didn't last long, we had to get jobs.
Me took
@@Joe_Gunn it was more a state of mind than dress we just all dressed how we felt good
Love this song. Thank you, Tommy James!
Wow, I am back in grade school, the music didn't get any cooler than this. ❤❤❤❤ Love ya' TJ!!
This man has not received nearly the recognition he deserves. I hope the world catches on soon
And people go ape over the crap being played today.
Truth Indeed
65 yrs old in 2 months. And my friends and i can all say best times to have grown up in small town USA!!!
Hello Karen, How are you doing?
This song brings me back to my youth. I love it.😄🚀
Such a great pop song perfectly rendered with harmony, melody, rhythm, beat, etc musically it all works so well! Imo Tommy James has McCartney/Lennon level smash hit song writing skills!
Maybe it's just his eyes but, he sure looks high as fck in that video.
I was 7 when this came out & my friends big sister had this 45. Man we were so cool 😎 😅
I grew up in the 90’s, but the oldies were on in the car all the time, and this song reminds me I’m glad they were 🎶 🔥
Those were the days, I remember listening to this on the radio in the car, of course AM only!😅
How did we go from 1967 to 2022 so fast!?😢
Life is like a puff of smoke in the wind...comes - goes very quickly
the time is rough only short the rearview mirror
Time just flew on by
I think about that all the time. Where did the time go?
AM is all my Mustang had until I got an 8 track.
Amazing, along with Crimson and Clover, two of my all time favorites. Great memories with these songs.
Oh my God this song sure brings back lots of memories for me. I sure think of my high school boyfriend Steve oh how I miss him. Since 1970 he was lost in a car crash so yes this song has so many memories.
hello, how are you doing it is nice meeting you here….
I was thirteen years old when this song came out on radio. I loved it. ♥It made me feel very happy always. Tommy's voice and face are beautiful. And this awesome song is just over two minutes long!
This song is iconic of youth and innocence and discovery 👍😊🥰 it's a beautiful piece of music art👍
Tommy James...such a talent!! So overlooked musical genius!!

Ontario in another crazy lockdown. Listening to the best music ever made. Bringing me back to my childhood. Simplier, happier times and when we had nothing and were grateful for everything!! Jesus come quick,
I don’t think I’ve heard this song in 4 decades and I still sang along to every word! (In my head 😉)
Haha !
This was my pick when my grandaughter & I
sang karaoke ! Got all D's !
Born '54
Sing it out loud! Who cares! Sing like no one’s listening!
I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Fortunate enough to hear the original and Tiffany's version. What teenage boy didn't have a Tiffany crush. She was amazingly close to the original but I still love the classics
Omg...my dad bought my sister her record player and this was the album. Love it xooxo
I was 13 in 1967, best years to be living in, still got the 68 mustang I drove around in
Love the songs I grew up with. Brings happy memories to hear them. Not rape or killing , just a few hurt feelings . Thanks for the memories!
What a great song - perfectly communicating the teenage journey from innocence to experience , bringing vividly into the present feelings of time and place from our teenage years, artistically and flawlessly performed by the band and singer.
Grew up listening to them. Sounds just as good to me today as back then!
One of my favorite songs. A big hit back then. It went to #4 on the charts in April 1967, should have been #1.
It was one of the best songs of the year.
Almost 70andstill one of my favorite
My #1 rebellious song at age 14!!!❤
Super clásico que nunca pasarán de moda gracias por compartir este gran ejemplar video.
I just discovered them after helping them at the airport. They were pleasant and treated me with dignity and respect
I got to see them perform LIVE at a 60’s festival, them the turtles the animals the monkeys, The Beach Boys and others it was my first concert ever😂 … Thks DAD HAD A BLAST AT LIKE 14 years old, 😅
The 45 of this song is one of the first records I bought with my own money.
I graduated from High School in 1964 remember this song and how fun it was to be a teenager
I was in HS in '67 and recall the song (obviously) but hadn't paid much attention to it in the past 50 years, until it was featured in the Sci Fi thriller "10 Cloverfield Lane" ..... and man oh man - the contrast between the feel good TJ strains, and the tension you could cut with a knife, was AMAZING
I loved TJ. My favorite Crystal Blue Persuasion
Quintessential pop and rock song of all time. Tommy James...Shondells. Johnny Rivers...Boston. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is an embarrassing joke for keeping these great rock performers out. Isaac Hays basically had one hit and is in the Hall of Fame. These other three have had incredible lists of several hits and they are not in the Hall of Fame. Hall of Fame is not real or even worthy of anyone's attention. Without Tommy James and the Shondells, rock and pop music is incomplete and missing its soul.
The hall is a joke. Public Enemy is in the Hall. Jethro Tull isn't. R U fucking kidding me!!!!!
I was a middle schooler at this time but our music was the best!! Love Tommy James
The more to the Shondells I listen tge more impressed I become. Their contribution/influence is underrated, but I know…I know.
read his autobiography, one of the best and honest biographies ever written and I have read many. He really is honest, a real guy!
I remember when I first heard this one the radio. Asked mom to let me listen to the full song ,and she did. This was my next 45 purchase. I’d save all week to go to the record store. We had the best music back in the day. Thankfully it’s still there for me.
Hi gorgeous how are you doing today?
Perfect song for us when dating, we're married over 50 yrs a go ! Still our perfect car song !
Tommy James and the Shondells are quintessential of my coming of age music. Lots of great memories and they never get old. Tiffany is only a wannabe.
Yes these songs told the stories of our lives and our love in the late 60’s and 70’s. They were almost hypnotic
Hello Sandy, How are you doing?
I had to read down this thread to learn that someone else covered this song. Tommy James was so great. The entire album “Crimson and Clover” is one of my all time favs. Every song is nearly perfect and totally captured the spirit of he 60s
Lena Lovich's version is great
Made junior high unforgettable! So many memories! And even more at the skating rink on Saturday night!
I miss those times 💔 too much fighting anymore, so distressing, can we start over? i'm not so sure with this admin
I agree-the album is often overlooked when albums are ranked.
This song was covered in the 80's by a lady called Tiffany
Makes me remember my husband, we were dating. He turned me onto them. Great times and great music. 💕
I just LUV this song! Timeless! Tommy James is one cool dude! At first I thought he was British when this first came out in the 60s
Beautiful, sweet, decent, lovely, I'm thankful for having been there!!!
hello, how are you doing it is nice meeting you here..
This group was a bunch of Christians. They didn't preach, but tried to spread Gods message to everyone, in their songs.
A timeless masterpiece for a bygone epoch with rebellion, imagination and fantasy.Nothing can bring back memories better, than a song which he was once connected with.

Must gotta admit, I love this version as well after coming across it.
Nice to see over a million views on this one. I used to cover it years ago. The song never ages.
