Thank goodness your call-out niggle was the diameter….that popped into my mind from the onset…cheers Peter for presenting this. How great is it for the watch industry to continue to innovate.
Thank you for bringing us this unique timepiece Peter. You open up the watch world to many pieces I wouldn’t otherwise be aware of. I have to agree on all your points both the pluses and minuses. A bit smaller and a bit less pricey and it’s a home run.
You also get better accuracy with the courts as well if that’s what you were wanting. Not sure why people give courts such a bad rap. It’s easier to maintain. It’s more accurate. You can make a thin or watch. I don’t know.
@@shamelessplace11 The SW200 to be fair is also pretty good to keep, fairly common movement and not expensive to service, so if anyone wants to go the Automatic route it's also a good deal but the Quartz version seems to strike a good balance of price and looks.
Very unique . I especially like it with the black band. However if the orange one feels as soft as it looks, I might need to have both. Very nice review ,Peter. As always thanks for showing !
For me I like the Tres 24 a more classic three hander but I can appreciate this variant and the uniqueness Always appreciate and enjoy your professional reviews and photography my friend Be well and Big blessings 👍
Certainly different and in a good way. I like the minimalist style and the hand set is unique too, it’s just too big for my liking. Like you suggested, a 38mm version would be perfect for the wider range of watch enthusiasts, especially when there’s no bezel and it’s all dial. Thanks for sharing brother a pleasure as always 🙏🏻
Outside of my price range but very cool and unique. Pretty easy to do cool, but not so easy to do unique. And if it was a little smaller, I may consider the quartz. Thanks for a great review!
Design uniqueness, the concept of which I certainly don't dislike. Yet, that price is steep, and well-considered the design is clever, but doesn't seem complicated, not necessarily that high grade in its execution. The quartz is arguably expensive for a quartz, but also shows how ambitious the price is for the automatic. The size is just all wrong, making it for all but the largest of wrists a bit of an ostentatious novelty piece, while it has this minimalist potential. Perhaps if it was well-proportioned and actually truly remarkably beautiful thanks to some notable high grade material or crafted execution of its otherwise very simple construction, that price would seem more justified and certainly I would imagine many more people would simply take an interest.
Fantastic looking thing. I've often been out and about and in need a wearable dinner plate to eat my fish and chips. Fully agree about 38. I don't think they'll sell many otherwise.
Visually, I like it. It’s different, I like the orange strap with the gray dial and orange hands. It looks smooth, almost silky. I like the time telling experience it gives, something a bit different. I agree with you that it could be made in a smaller diameter.
Thanks Peter. Probably not for me but nonetheless, hats off to the brand for trying something different. It gives me smart watch vibes upon first glance. I recon the quartz version might be the go here noting the price difference. Cheers.
It's an interesting concept but the hour and minute hands seem too small to me. While I understand the visual focus is supposed to be on the second hand, I just see too much empty black space in the middle of the watch. I could definitely see this in a smaller size with maybe different proportions for the center of the dial and hands.
It is always surprising to see the realization of an idea after it has passed the drawing or prototype stage. And especially when you do not manufacture what others do. With this "CLAVIUS", it is certainly not about innovation. On the other hand, as you rightly pointed out Mr. Peter Kotsa, the craftsmen have succeeded in creating a minimalist dial that gives this timepiece a timeless elegance.
It's an interesting watch and I like it. It reminds me of Bauhause watches with a modern twist. I would go with the quartz version, but I have a 6.4-inch wrist, so it would be a bit large on my wrist.
I would prefer the TRES 24. Because this kind of big black disc in the middle of the dial kills everything for me, The price is due to the quality and low quantity of produced watches. But both versions (automatic and quartz) are outside my price range.
Thanks for uncovering another different execution of a watch Pete, I think you have look twice to differentiate between the minute & hr hands which for me is a turn off. I agree way too big with so much dial real estate. I think this is a quartz watch the price jump to mechanical is too high for what some might consider a “ novelty” watch. Hats off to them for trying something different though.
Not my cup of tea. That said, the seconds displayed in this manner is a clever idea. I would love to see a version where the minutes and hours are also displayed like this.
Agree in every point with you what you said. The watch is beautiful but to expensive and to big. If it were 1k, with 10ATM case and sized down to 42mm would be mine. I have 7.1 too wrist seing it on your wrist I would not buy it at 44mm.
I think they use the auto to lure in sales of the quartz by making it seem to be a good value proposition when in fact you are still paying almost $700USD. Marketing psychology 101.
I disagree completely with you on the sizing. The shape and style of this watch isn’t for a dressy 39-40mm watch. 44mm with no lugs is a great size for a watch with this vibe. I think we should stop this madness of sub 40mm in every single watch design.
As you say, the watch is a little large and they skimped on the lume. At the same time, the pricing makes no sense to me. I don't see why a watch with a simple Sellita SW200 should be more expensive by more than a grand than the quartz version. Sorry, they need to try harder.
Certainly a unique approach, but it does nothing for me. Seems a shame to put an sw200 in and not see the smooth sweep or the date. When I see a long case clock with a dead beat mechanism I find it fascinating, strange how the most expensive and best clocks are dead beat but the cheapest watches are too.
Thank goodness your call-out niggle was the diameter….that popped into my mind from the onset…cheers Peter for presenting this. How great is it for the watch industry to continue to innovate.
Haha yeah the elephant in the room
Thank you for bringing us this unique timepiece Peter. You open up the watch world to many pieces I wouldn’t otherwise be aware of. I have to agree on all your points both the pluses and minuses. A bit smaller and a bit less pricey and it’s a home run.
I like that it’s different, just would have loved a smaller footprint on this one 👌
Quality looks good. It’s not really my cup of tea, but it’s refreshing to see something different.
Enjoyed the review.
A great review, Peter. Another interesting brand to watch. I really love the seconds-hand tick/sweep effect on the dial. Thanks, as always!
My pleasure
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it 🙏
I like it. I fully enjoy when brands do something different. This one is super sharp, at least for me.
iT's a very cool watch but i have to say the Quartz version seems to make more sense, you're not losing anything visually and it's 1/3 the price.
Well said 👍

Thanks for watching Tony 👍
Not my cup of tea, but love seeing interesting designs like this. Love the effect as the second hand passes under the logo.

Agreed 👍

I agree. Great idea, but in certain aspects still seems like a work in progress.
Different colourTritium tubes seem perfect for the minimal exposed hour n minute hands.
I just smile & shake my head! How you find these great watches amazes me. 😊
Haha, sometimes I look for watches that are different and don’t follow mainstream 😊
What an interesting watch! Would be even more appealing if it were a bit smaller though, just as you suggest.
Good review. You should probably try the Quartz version as It's only 40mm according to Botta website.
It is always surprising to see the realization of an idea after it has passed the drawing or prototype stage. And especially when you do not manufacture what others do.

Nicely summarized 👌

I Just checked the Botta site and the Quartz version is only 40mm.
40-41mm would work also, and the price is a bit hard to swallow. Nice watch though I will be keeping an eye on this brand.

Aliexpress sellers had a case with decal on the glass that would produce this effect.
I like it, but don’t feel compelled to order one.
Thanks for revealing it…
It's not for everyone 👍

2:31 Getting your German watch brands confused with your Finnish F1 drivers, Pete? 😉
😋

A good size watch for a change. Interesting.
If this watch will be use tritium tubes on the hands, than it will be my next watch.
I disagree completely with you on the sizing. The shape and style of this watch isn’t for a dressy 39-40mm watch.
44mm with no lugs is a great size for a watch with this vibe.
I think we should stop this madness of sub 40mm in every single watch design.
If it doesnt have a date function, i have no use for it.
Interesting. But not $1800 USD interesting.
exactly my thoughts lol

Lotta empty space in the center, could def be smaller size

Cool watch but just too damn big
