We love our Old Spot Pigs! A 400lb pig got out because we hadn’t put a charge on our fence for a month or so. He finally figured it out. He fallowed me back to the pen with no problem. I get in their pen all the time without fear. He is a write up I did when I was selling the piglets last month: Gentle Giant of Heritage Piglets Parents: The male (Lord Snork) is a registered Gloucestershire Old Spot and the female (Lady Hamlet) is a purebred Gloucestershire old spot. Gloucestershire Old Spot Pigs are the oldest pedigreed spotted pig in the world. They were first mentioned in English literature in the 1790s. Eating primarily forage and graze, the hardy hogs can develop quickly on farm leftovers such as dairy and orchard byproducts. They are also fantastic pastured pigs. If a windfall of agricultural byproducts aren’t available, Old spots can reach 200 lb in 6 months on just non-GMO hog feed. With a little more patience, they could be 400 lb in 8 months. The yield to effort for a freezer full of food is amazing with these floppy eared, spotted pigs. Along with meat and bone broth, a gallon or more of lard could be rendered. Their usefulness is amazing enough, but their gentleness is the star of the show. Nobody needs a 400 or 500 lb pig that has an attitude problem. Even to strangers they are nonchalant about people in their pen. The guineas take every advantage of this when the pigs are fed. The guineas keep the ticks and fleas away, and the pigs share their food. It seems like an unlikely collaboration, but it works out for both parties.😂
deathwheel Cutting Disk ProTip: Make a groove along the cutting path, and keep working it from the top down, along the entire length (or reasonable sections). Your disks (and battery) will live much longer. They're most efficient at cutting on the edge of the disk. don't try to use them like a bandsaw.
I was laughing so hard with Ashley! Also, watching the girls practice on their horses was so much fun, and the shot of Cloud with the mountains behind during sunset was spectacular and so peaceful! This was such a great video!
Greetings from 🇨🇦.I just LOVE how you involve the whole family in this HUGE endeavour…even the animals are such an integral part of each video you produce. The fun you also have is infectious and I find myself laughing out loud! Thank you for these healing videos..I am sure its a big deal to produce them so consistently, and I for one, as an 82 year old am very grateful you give so much of your lives!🙏🌻🙏
Ok…that WAS priceless….thanks for letting us share that laugh with you, Ashley 🤣🤣🤣 The girls looked so relaxed and beautiful putting the horses thru their paces. I grew up with horses, so it triggered some great memories for me. Thank you for sharing their practice! ❤️❤️ A friend up in northern Arizona used to have a HUGE pig named Melissa. Occasionally, she would escape her pen and she would go down to the nearby Parks Store where she would plant herself in front of the one and only gas pump for that ‘middle of nowhere’ community. It was quite hilarious to see the store owner out there trying to coax/pry Melissa from her favorite resting place. Your video made my day! ❤️❤️❤️
You are right to be careful. Aggressive pigs CAN hurt you. But my uncle had many pigs, and he buildt 🐷 troughs that were half on the inside and half on the outside of the fence. This way you can feed them yet stay outside of their enclosure. To save labour, put in the dry feed (e.g. grain meal) first and then hydrate it with a water hose. That method is much easier on the back, the water is heavy. You could plant an oak or fruit tree for the pigs as well. Acorns 🌰 and other fruits are favorite foods. They love searching and digging for treats themselves. It is good for their mood. Pigs are intelligent and want something to do.
I didn't know you had 2 big white herding dogs. 😊😊 Ashley...the look on your face... hilarious 😂 You didn't waste your time, you all lived and learned ❤ I so enjoy watching your channel 🥰 Blessings sent to all 🙌
love this video..watched ashley's wonderful giggle fest like so many times...the girls on the horses was awesome too...but that giggle is the best...made my day..thanks
Trying to explain water pressure test lol watching you blush. Apologizing to your parents was funny. Jax’s was having fun throwing rocks. Your sunsets are beautiful on the mountains. Can’t wait to see how the girls do in horse riding. Love their haircuts..
Not a wasted day. Things break, repairs must happen. It's just part of the homesteading process. The metal pipe thing is disappointing, but not everything works. So much fun watching the girls on their horses! It is so wonderful that they have this opportunity. Ashley's giggles...definitely made the video worth a second watch. Love how Trona is so eager to romp with the Doodles, but greets Snow right away. And how the old man regally watches the pups. Lots of little things that can add up to good memories.
So fun watching this one! You guys crack me up!! And your girls are EVENTERS!!!! What fun! My daughter has been eventing since she was 10 and she’s 35 and now a coach and trainer as well in Virginia! What a fun life we’ve had with her in the eventing world!! A lot cheaper than rehab we’ve always said!! Lol. Go jump all the stuff!!!
Oh Ashley, you had me laughing out loud!!! With the “blow up thing” The pigs - I’ve heard about them being aggressive. I had a work colleague that had some sort of smaller pig breed thinking they would be more manageable, but he’d go in and they would slam up against him or try to pinch him up against the fence. He used to make weekly trips to the Orowheat factory outlet and get expired breads and pastries - filled his trunk - to supplement their regular feed and he shared some of the meat with us. My gosh- absolutely the best tasting we’ve ever had!!
You know what guys, I'm so amazed, at how much you fit into 12 hours aday. It's perfect timing and wonderfully sound. Great to see how far all personally come. Its awesome to watch your steps, if I was wealthy I'd bless you well, however, all i offer , is light and loving prayers for you all xxx
You guys are doing great. I love the channel and I love what you're doing. Please try to buy a face shield and a guard for that grinder. I've seen many discs break apart and I have seen them end up in people's body parts where they don't want them. Including through a pair of safety glasses
Love the mountain shots. Beautiful!!! I cracked up when you two were trying so hard to explain the testing of the drain lines. Too funny. Oh and by the way....I cook for my dogs as well. They get leftovers along with their dry. I warm the leftovers up with some water and mix it in. Yes, they are spoiled. I don't care...lol. Thank you for bringing us all along with you. It's always fun to watch your videos.
Joahathan - If you have more of the casings to cut, I find my wheel lasts longer by going back and forth -Cut line cutting a short depth. Then back and forth end to end in the line.
I love Ashley's sense of humor 😂 I used to love raising and riding horses when I was younger❤ Those AZ sunsets are always spectacular ❤🙏🏼 God truly is amazing 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I adore you guys for being so real, even on days when it's a challenge and the inner 12 year olds come out. My family is at the looking-at-land while trying to plan ahead stage and we find a lot of inspiration, encouragement, and faith in humanity from you!
I know that you would like to see faster progress but I'm blown away by all that you guys have done mostly on your own!!! You are documentary worthy!!!
Ashley you were cracking me up 😂😂😂 also we enjoy the errand days as much as the build days 🙂👍 You said when you were done you were going to “get back” to work - all of the support work and errands are still work you know 😄 Also the girls looked like they’d been riding horses their whole lives 🐎 Good work, Longneckers! 🤩
Life is busy! I imagine it is wise to ensure the plumbing is 100% ok before continuing with the next phase of your build. Nice seeing your family working together!
OMG Ashley I laughed so hard with you were talking big inflatable pipe toy 😂 My mind was in the gutter for sure. When I was trying to tell my hubby what I was laughing about I became hysterical which made him laugh. 30 mins of laughter and I made him watch this and we laughed all over again ❤
for the two inch pipe domes... just weld some angle iron down each side to give it a larger surface area to rest on. There has to be someone in the community that has and knows how to use a welder.
For future reference, you'll save a lot on both cutting disks and batteries by working your way down the whole length with light cuts, going deeper and deeper over a number of cuts, rather than trying to cut the entire thickness at once like a saw. It might take just a little longer, but it's much less stress on the grinder and the disks.
Glad you feed your dogs so well. The girls are doing so well with the horses. So fun with the water checking apparatus 😂 Thanks for the video update. I know it's a strain for you but I love daily videos ❤🥰🌞
That's great that you're cutting the drill casing to cover the 2" pipe that goes under the wall too! That looks like a huge challenge! Too bad that Wilcox Sand and Gravel can't bring the gravel out to you today. I'm so impressed about how wonderful the plumbing looks! Yay, you got it cut in half! Isn't it fun when you can ask your kids to drive and do errands! Last practice before the "big event" so thanks for showing this to us. So fun to see! The roadrunner was cool! Nice upgrade of the pump from the original pump house while you needed to replace the battery too! That drain plug looks a little phallic to me! Blushing Ashley was so cute! Wow, checking for leaks is a big job! Good idea to stop filling it up on a brand new battery and no sun to charge it up. Your dogs are so cute! Wow, those mountains are gorgeous! None of your goats look underfed! Those feeder pigs will fill up your freezer really well. With our feeder pigs I could always scratch their backs and they would fall over with delight! Too bad yours are aggressive. Cooked eggs are really good for the dogs! That's so nice of you Ashley! Maybe leave the water in while you fill it back in because then the plumbing won't move because the weight of the water is holding it steady. Thanks for this video Longnecker family!
If u out a 2x4 piece on each side if the pipe to rest the edge on it will dig into the gravel. You can even connect the 2 prices of wood with plumbers tape so they don’t slip.
Great video, it's so much fun to see the progress you've made. I'm excited for the girls to participate in the horse show too. Ashley, you are hilarious!😂
Love how you all take everything in stride. Thank you for filming those sunsets!!! I use to live in the desert and I miss those awesome sunsets❤ Yes, you have to be careful about pigs. I don't eat pig, but I had a great uncle who fell into the pig pen and when they found him the pigs had eaten half of him. Sorry I know that might be TMI but people don't realize how dangerous they can be. And I'm just a worry wart, but hope you all are using sunscreen. In particular on those ears! Those ball cap hats really leave your ears at max exposure and I can tell you, it can come back and bite you down the road. Sorry, just concerned. Your channel and really your family are such a delight! Thanks for sharing all that you do with us❤
You could try placing two strips of 1/2" or 1/4" thick plywood (or even metal) that are approx. 3" wide X 12" long... along both sides of the PVC pipes to rest your steel half-pipe on top of to protect the PVC plumbing pipe. That should effectively keep the half-pipe from digging/sinking into the ground from the weight of the hyper-adobe bags. Take care. sincerely, Dean O. :-I
I agree my dog gets fed better than I do. But they’re Ashley’s extra kids, that’s why she’ll take really good care of them. So happy to see you guys have so much fun with plumbing.
Just as an FYI, one can get carbide tipped skills aw blades especially made to cut metal I used one to cut pretty thick metal siding. It’s not an abrasive product like we used to use. I believe Diablo makes one that you can get at any decent building supply place… good luck!
I think you guys could use a dump trailer... not that you need the expense, but they sure come in handy. Outdoors with the Morgans shows a few of them. i don't know if they get a discount or something for showing them on their channel or testing them or something... but something like that would really help increase productivity... cut down on costs with fewer trips to the gravel yard... and once you have one you find a gazillion more uses for them. Just a thought....
Check out Ossabaw Island pigs. They’re a heritage breed and mostly very friendly. I met quite a few the summer I spent working the Loggerhead turtle conservation back when Sandy Torrey West still owned the island. Sandy bottle raised orphan piglets and they were as friendly as dogs!
Classic! The way of all improvement projects. 1) You go to upgrade the pump and instantly it's size is an issue. 2) Then the switch and possibly the relay are too small. 3) Then the new battery is going to be too small. 4) Then the Solar panel is going to be too small (Especially in the shade for half the day.) 5) The flexible hose feeding the pump is definitely WAY TOO SMALL. It will be causing pump damaging cavitation and probably continued lack of supply issues. That size tubing is good for about 2.9GPM.
Binge watching from tropical far north Queensland, Australia. You guys motivate me to get off my ass for sure haha! I'm Starting a small, residential garden/mini hobby farm. I love seeing all of the different ways to do things!! I am currently in a tiny home..2bedroom transportable situation with solar. I need to get one of those teal and black trucker hats though!! House should definitely be called 'The Falcon' 😂 if you were Australian it would just be 'The Falcs' 😅 also...can confirm..no rinos in Australia...except zoos 😂 you're all so cute!! Much love xoxo
LOVE your show!! Very impressive work and to see the kids working as hard as they do… wow!!! I am curious is y’all are wearing sunblock? Have to protect the skin! Keep up the GREAT work and videos!!!
oxy / acetylene cutting torch...oh my the laughing stint was hilarious.... please stop handle the pipe plug, lol!😂😂, Try a duroc pig breed they are know to be docile medium sized- mostly used for F.F.A kids to show & sold for Meat.
bonjour la famille. what a nice déviation: the girl's on horseback. my oh my, the ride well. they 'post' quite well. seem very confident whilst they ride. as the black bladder in the drain pipe, MC Hammer, said it best: "my, my, can't touch this !' we'll see, if it holds or not. the best part of the vidéo was the remark Ashley gave about the aggressive pigs, 'they're going to FREEZER CAMP !' i almost fell off my chair laughing. Excellent Ashley, now that's a fine tee shirt in the offing. no worries, we'll be back tomorrow, same time, same bladder station.
If not too late, you pipe idea can work. Just slide a wider piece of flat scrap under the pipe for the arch to rest on. In my experience all picks whether nice or not try to eat you if you stand still long enough. This is why I don’t mind eating pork.
Very lucky. I have seen some videos and luckily the blade to cut that steel held thru. Be sure to wear proper face protection and if your blade has some type of shield just in case.
A high current dc circuit works better with a relay rather than new switches. The existing switch switches the relay, as in your car for fans, headlights, etc.
😂 I was wondering how, the pipe balloon was going to be used. Some leave it in when back filling so the water stays in the lines and if they get broken it will show. Plus that's alot of water tied up in testing probably almost 800 gallons. Have a good day and count your blessings amen.
The only concern I have with your metal 1/2 pipe is the settling it will do, in the years to come, it is all looking good and you folks, three cheers to you all!!
Well I need to do some catching up. I thought I would have more time since I retired but NOOOOO LOL. I spotted Lizzy the Lizard at 6:13. I hope i didn't miss him through out the video. Need to really look harder. lol. Loving the videos. Its' so exciting to see this process and learn some things as well.
FYI. The couple on Living Traditions Homestead pours their pig food over their electrified fence into a trough (held in place by concrete blocks) rather than go inside the pen. Justin Rhodes, in turn, pours his pig’s food into a large feeding dish and launches it through a gap in their gate like a frisbee.
hi.. i suggest you take a piece of plywood in the sice of the trench unter the small pipe, and set the metall upon it as a roof. should be given more stability all the way so the pipe cannot bend.
@@TinyShinyHome yes thats clear. but after the beginning the earthbag structure will hold itself an there is no danger of giving way. its only for the first rounds of earthbag. you could also take the one half under the pipe and the second half over. as it moves it will itself adjusting to the diameter of the pipe? i still find it a good idea to support the pipe at least in the beginning.
Love watching you guys. Still bing watching liking and sharing when I can. However I have a question. Do you ever prune trees and feed the branches to your gotes and pigs and use the twigs as mulch by chipping them or use as kindeling?
Sand bags are the way to go for support. We use them all the time to protect and support pipe runs and pipe crossovers. Just fill them with a non sharp sand and put them in place, wet 'em up and then place with a sledge hammer as a tamper. They are amazing. I was taught the trick by an Irish sewerage pipe contractor.
I had a couple of pigs last year that looks like the same breed and they were extremely calm. I could put my hand in their mouth. So maybe it depends and you just weren't lucky. But I'f they're to sweet you won't want to send them to freezer camp 😊
😂😂 Oh man! I had such a laugh at the part where you had to insert the thing into the pipe. I will have to rewartch it to see if it has a name. But that was hilarious
We love our Old Spot Pigs! A 400lb pig got out because we hadn’t put a charge on our fence for a month or so. He finally figured it out. He fallowed me back to the pen with no problem. I get in their pen all the time without fear. He is a write up I did when I was selling the piglets last month: Gentle Giant of Heritage Piglets
Parents: The male (Lord Snork) is a registered Gloucestershire Old Spot and the female (Lady Hamlet) is a purebred Gloucestershire old spot.

Try red wattle hogs. Very friendly and grow well!
Great day! Lots of energy! Always working!!
15:00 Ashley, get your mind out of the gutter…or the septic piping…😂🤣 Also, #Dewalt PLEASE SPONSOR THEM!!! 😩😘❤️😂
WOW thank you for those shots of the mountains at sunset!! Beautiful! I know what you mean about the phone camera not doing justice...still gorgeous.
Ashley, I was laughing with you,I told you to have fun.and you are, awesome job you guys. 🎉😂❤
Wow, Ashley! You bought a BIG one!
Enjoy your daily videos. You guys are amazing.
Weld flat irons to the bottom sides of the half cuts of round steel to help as feet maybe
LOVE your show!! Very impressive work and to see the kids working as hard as they do… wow!!! I am curious is y’all are wearing sunblock? Have to protect the skin! Keep up the GREAT work and videos!!!
You are such a joy to watch not just your hard work but your happiness and fun in everything you do
Yep .. a little bit of wee came .. when you pulled the big black boy.. asked myself, "Am I on the right channel!". ..Ashley, you looked the same way!!
OMG so cute - the dogs!
LOL! Growing up we had cats named Eenie, Meanie and Miney and there ain't no mo.🤣 Great names for pigs too!
Wow Ashley, that's big! Good luck!
oxy / acetylene cutting torch...oh my the laughing stint was hilarious.... please stop handle the pipe plug, lol!😂😂, Try a duroc pig breed they are know to be docile medium sized- mostly used for F.F.A kids to show & sold for Meat.
I'm so enjoying the daily videos. Thanks guy's.
Wow, the mountains are beautiful.
bonjour la famille. what a nice déviation: the girl's on horseback. my oh my, the ride well. they 'post' quite well. seem very confident whilst they ride. as the black bladder in the drain pipe, MC Hammer, said it best: "my, my, can't touch this !' we'll see, if it holds or not. the best part of the vidéo was the remark Ashley gave about the aggressive pigs, 'they're going to FREEZER CAMP !' i almost fell off my chair laughing. Excellent Ashley, now that's a fine tee shirt in the offing. no worries, we'll be back tomorrow, same time, same bladder station.
You guys are so bad. I was roaring with laughter. Thanks, I needed that.
Ashley's presentation of the 'test ball' (?) = priceless 😂
Your mountains are so beautiful at sunset
Watching your sun set snd my sun rise simultaneously 🌞
If not too late, you pipe idea can work. Just slide a wider piece of flat scrap under the pipe for the arch to rest on.
In my experience all picks whether nice or not try to eat you if you stand still long enough. This is why I don’t mind eating pork.
Actually surprised you didn't burn up that grinder, the cordless ones, regardless of brand, just aren't great for heavy use like that
Very lucky. I have seen some videos and luckily the blade to cut that steel held thru. Be sure to wear proper face protection and if your blade has some type of shield just in case.
Stop! Mike's laughing so hard he's crying! 😂
Lots of extra water runs for sure...
The only concern I have with your metal 1/2 pipe is the settling it will do, in the years to come, it is all looking good and you folks, three cheers to you all!!
You guys are so sweet!
Double entendres make us laugh like middle schoolers!
@23:15 "Freezer Camp?!?? LoL! almost made me spit my coffee! hahahaa
“It’s gonna take all day!”
- that’s what she said
-Is that how you guys have so many kids?
Couldn’t decide which one made me giggle more
Any wood is just going to break down over time underground. Especially plywood.
Loved the testing of the water lines. LOL🤣😂
this is funny that Ocho's favorite treat is cleanex. My aussie's favorite is ice cubes.
Brava, Ashley. You get major kudos for explaining that. lol
Why not use wood strips with a groove for the sharp edges? Would be stable. And added peace of mind.
The girls look so good!!👏👏👏 See ya tomorrow👋👋👋
When you cut casing pipe in half, can you set the half-pipe atop a stone or cinder block so that its edges don't sink into the ground?
Call it what it is Ashley. It’s a test Weeneey. Well… that’s what plumbers and construction workers call it. 😂
I had a couple of pigs last year that looks like the same breed and they were extremely calm. I could put my hand in their mouth. So maybe it depends and you just weren't lucky. But I'f they're to sweet you won't want to send them to freezer camp 😊
Saw the Land has cony conys and he really likes how dosel easy they are. Also The Hollers pave tried out several pig types. Get in tough.
😂😂 Oh man! I had such a laugh at the part where you had to insert the thing into the pipe. I will have to rewartch it to see if it has a name. But that was hilarious
