How to Properly Clean RAM on your Desktop PC

- Is your PC not booting up? Freezing Randomly? Does it live in a dusty and humid environment? Your RAM might be filthy, and could be causing internal connection problems, causing your PC to malfunction. This guide shows you how to clean your RAM properly in the hope of bringing back your PC from the dead.
Please note - if you use a cheap eraser to clean your RAM, it'll leave behind a rubbery film which could cause issues again down the track. It's recommended that you use a microfibre cloth with a dab of isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the pins afterwards to avoid a film being left behind.

@@samsmith182 yeah. An eraser and some alchol and brush. Believe it or not my gaming PC refused to boot... I thought the other Fury X stick was dead... all it needed was some cleaning and behold it booted up! even overclocked it again lol

I have never dared open my computer before. My monitor stopped sensing the computer and one tech website suggested to clean your ram sticks. When I searched for how to do that, your video came up. I cleaned them and put them back but not firmly enough and the computer beeped a code that meant that . I pushed them in more firmly, set everything back up and it worked!!!!!!!

Lifesaving video! Just bought a pc and monitor from Carousell and it got me shook when it wouldn’t turn on. Went to some shop to get an eraser, cleaned it, and it worked! Still unbelievable how some dirt on your ram can cause such a big problem.

I was replacing a cpu cooler and took out my 4 sticks of 8GB RAM to make more room. Put everything back together and then my computer would turn on start to boot up then turn off and start the whole problem again. I eventually narrowed it down to one stick of RAM causing the problem, because when I removed it, the computer would boot up. So it appeared one stick went bad ....... or was it? As I looked at the contacts i noticed a smudge on one of the contacts. I must have accidentally touched one of the contacts when I was removing them from the PC. So small, almost invisible. I cleaned it, reinserted the RAM, and BAM! It worked and the PC booted up fine. Something so simple.

I used some contact cleaner with a soft brush on the RAM gold contacts as well. Same with graphics card. Everything got the same treatment. Changed the 10+ yr old motherboard battery while I had it open. Thanks!!

I was so frustrated I was about to get a sledge hammer and trash this pc. Tried this and voila! I did notice while using the eraser on the ram that the change was visible. I though a simple dry wipedown would do the trick but it took a goddman eraser to bring my pc back to life. Appreciate it.
Thanks, recently got a dell optiplex 790, had quit working the other day trying keyboards and said no signal from computer, and had pulled out the cards and replaced them, but tonight cleaned pins with a cloth and put in a new battery! Working again. Tried a new dell keyboard and monitor, working again! Texas

after pressing the power button I immediately hear 24 fast beeps then 8 fast beeps then 1 long beep, then 4 or 5 short beeps. I then turn my windows 10 desktop Pc off. turn off power at the back, press the power button to release any excess charge and try to turn it on again. I try this process 4 or 5 times to get the computer to boot up. please can you help. thanks

i would spray the brush bristles to keep them wet before getting to the slot; you know, on planet earth, things get pulled down fast,in this case,that liquid/spray
If we go to (run>msconfig>boot>advance and select ram but it goes zero every time and effects my boot time.
After I clean the 5 beeps go away fron ..the computer but the blower

When i lift or shaked my desktop black screen happens i dont know if my brush really clean my ram slots but i removed the ram and clean it with eraser and put it back on it works but sometimes its happening again.
Whole thing was working fine I tried installing a new psu, gave me no screen and two beeps, then change back to original psu and same thing, just tried cleaning the ram and it didn’t work :((((
Maybe it’s the monitors fault. If not I just think you should sell all the parts if you TRULY can’t find the problem and buy a new one

.hi there....can you help...i re-pasted the cpu and back togethere turned power on and pc runs but switches of then comes back on --on its own and it will repeat on and off?...i have took ram out and pc runs no problem..as soon as i replace the ram goes back from on-off on--off...i have took the battery out thats doing no differance..and i have also tried the rubber on ram still no joy...can anyone help as im comfused..thank you so much...ROB....ps the ram is about a month old..thnx.

I did this and now my laptop is not even detecting it... Rubbing with eraser.... but eraser turned black why? and now I cleaned it with Isopropyl alcohol now it's detecting and working properly...

I've been dealing with this 2 long beeps error with Red LED from my HP SFF. I think i really need that contact cleaner since the eraser part wont do the trick anymore. Lastweek the eraser trick fixes my problem but a day after the problem will just go back again.
Use the eraser, brush the residue off, then YES use the contact cleaner then wipe the gold contacts! PC will not boot up with just an eraser since it leaves residue on the ramsticks themselves! The contact cleaner and paper towel removes that residue from the eraser and you are good to go!
This happened to my HyperX twice in a span of like 2-3 years. I’m surprised how filthy ram sticks can get

@@vancanque2213 first use compressed air on the ram slots then gently brush the slots, then use WD-40 SPECIALIST CONTACT CLEANER. Spray it on the ram slots and let it dry for around 30minutes. Should work again unless you have bent pins or burnt ram slots.

1:01 all these 3 problems happened with me yesterday, some were progressive and booting up problem happened suddenly.
I had this problem earlier, that time i cleaned the Ram slot only (with air), Pc started nicely after that, and i didn't touch RAM stick, just to not mess anything.
This time the symptoms were different and they took time to develop and deteriorate. First I thought it was graphics driver problem as most problems i had were with graphics.
Now, I'm glad i found your video, thanks.
