My husband just bought me this exact machine. I just made my first project on it and I am in love! This machine is a huge game changer for making bags. Huge difference from my old machine to this one.
I initially started looking into juki because of your recommendation. I opted for the TL-2010q only for the speed control because I’m reckless. I couldn’t be happier. Worth every cent!
@@lindalee9177 mine did come with the extension table and just the free motion foot, zipper foot and 1/4 inch foot. I think the 2000 comes with the extension table too but I’m not positive.
I ordered this machine soon after seeing this video... it arrived today. Can't wait to straighten up by sewing area and start having fun sewing again!! Thanks for your help.
I have the same exact machine. Love it. I couldn’t get the thread cutter on the pedal to work the right way. Since you showed it in the video now I understand it better. Also you used the needle threader so easy. I tried for a half hour and still could do it. I’ll have to try it again. Thanks again for another great tutorial!!
I just brought this model. Thank you for the first video that explains some of the features. Even though I have the manual it’s good to actually see it done!
I appreciate one comment specifically. I would of never quessed that you used a home machine to quilt your quilts. Im stunned by that! I have a very old 30 years singer machine that does nearly everything. But I never quilted on it. Maybe I have too many layers if fill in my quilts. In 6 months I will be buying a new machine. I will keep this in mind. Tfs.
What a great review! I love my Juki TL too, and learned a few new things from you today, like taking off the entire bottom. I struggled at first with oiling mine because there were so many holes, so I labeled the correct ones with stickers. I used the GEasy ruler stickers for mine. Thank you for all you do. I love the quilt behind you, and of course it’s always fun to see Jax “helping” you!
Thank you! Thank you! I bought this wonderful machine a month ago because I loved all the comments from you about it. I have been a bit intimidated and haven't touched it. I'm going to this weekend. Yay! Thank you!
I've had this machine for a few months. Thank you SO much for this video. I've struggled to use the needle threader & have just been threading it by hand.
I purchased this Juki because I saw you using it. I do not regret doing it as I love mine. However I paid more and didn’t get the free motion foot. Thanks for the review
I picked up one of these machines at a yard sale with a bunch of extra attachments. Seems I am missing the free motion quilting attachments. But I haven't gotten around to making a quilt yet with any machine. More a tote bag and other type of bag maker. Thank you for showing how to thread the machine and clean it out. This will be helpful for me getting to clean, oil, and thread my machine when I have time to play this week.
I bought the Juki Haruka and I totally love it! I can mend my boys' jeans with no worries and go through many layers, no problem! I think I have been putting too much oil in though-I get oil everywhere! I don't get too much lint using Gutermann thread. Wonderful machine:)
Thank You for showing this video. Everything was clearly explained. I learned how to take the machine apart to give it a good cleaning. So appreciated your “How To’.
Great video you have shared things that i havent seen before..im considering this machine so ive been searching what i can these past couple years ..your video was very helpful thank you....💕
I’m so glad I came across your video about this machine. I have been doing some research on it as I’m considering buying it!! Thanks for the video! I love your channel!
Thank you for this great review and tutorial. I am looking at this model to purchase. I've decided this is the one for me. I am new to quilting, and my HD Singer doesn't have enough throat space to do move around. I just subscribed to your channel.
Girl! Thank you. I have a Brother that has tons of fancy stitches but no automatic thread cutter and a smallish throat area. I was wondering if Juki had a basic quilting type machine. You answered my question!
Excellent video. I'm really considering this machine as my dedicated quilter to pair with my recently purchased tabletop frame. I always like to watch how to videos and reviews before purchasing machines. This was very informative and now I feel more confident when I go to speak with a dealer. Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing. I have an old used home sewing and want to up grade. I am a beginner. I wanted to know if tl 2010Q and a serger would be an adequate replacement? For making quilts and clothing for me and the kids' zippers and buttons included. Thank you❤🎉
Sweet review. In our aviation shop we use the Juki but slightly different model. The 180Q. This machine is a workhorse for light industrial. Better than the cheap machines.
Thanks for your tutorial, I really like the machine, it looks great, and so easy to use, think I'll have to save up for one. And straight stitch is fine, I have another machine I can use if I need zigzag, overcasting, buttonholes etc, and I mainly do quilts, so use mainly straight stitch anyway. Great that you get a walking foot with it, often you have to buy them separately, and they are NOT cheap! I use a walking foot quite a bit. Ok I'm saving up. Thanks and God bless 😊
FYI, the standard foot that comes with the machine sews at a scant 1/4 inch and the hinged quarter inch sews at a true quarter inch. You can get feet with guides but I happen to dislike them pressing into my fabric when I'm trying to sew on flat fabric, such as diagonally across an HST. I spent hours researching scant quarter feet that did not have guides and very few machines have one, in fact I think this is the only one that does. The nice thing on both the scant and the quarter inch foot is that if you're sewing for instance a quarter of an inch to each side of a line down a square piece of fabric, you don't have to turn the fabric around to sew the other side just move your fabric to the right or left as you need. And, best of all unlike as in the case of my other machines you don't have to try and position the needle at a scant or a quarter inch and write down your measurements, you just stick the foot on and you're ready to go. I really like that feature. I tried all these things out at my sewing store today and measured the seam widths, and the site that I went to called Juki Junkies is absolutely accurate about what they say about the scant and quarter inch. You wouldn't believe the amount of time I put into my research. Even the Juki Company didn't know that they had a scant 1/4 in foot. My quilting leader on a QAL sent me a picture of hers and nobody could tell me that one actually existed and where to find it, because.. it was the standard presser foot that came with the machine! I found it annoying to have to keep my foot suspended in the air to press the pedal without putting my heel down and cutting the thread. There's an accessory you can get that locks under the heel so that you eliminate that problem. If I buy this machine I will use that. I didn't really see the advantage of the knee lever because it has only one function to lift and lower the presser foot. If you want to look at a video on how to measure the width of seams go to the Featherweight Shop site, or call Baby Lock. Baby Lock asked me for the link to the Featherweight Shop site so that they could watch the video! Your measurement must include the seam line. There is scientific reasoning behind using a scant quarter inch, that involves the folding back of the fabric when you press a seam open, and achieving the width you actually want, allowing for the fold and allowing for the seam line. It's important to note that on the 2000 there isn't a speed slider. I had some trouble controlling the speed just with the foot pedal, going from very slow to really really fast. After I practiced a few times this was easier. You just have to get used to the pedal and the pressure you need to achieve your speed. I will probably wait a while before buying this machine. I just started learning to quilt last September and unless I get really dedicated to it, I don't need a machine that shows at 1500 or sew a king size quilt. One additional thought, I've come across a lot of sewing feet that claim to be a quarter of an inch and actually sew a 3/8" seam. Makes me wonder if any of these sewing machine manufacturers have ever tried selling.
Thank you so much for this detailed review. I am looking into the TL 2010. I have one question… Have you really done all your quilting on this machine? Even your twin and queen size? I like the large throat space. I am planning to use this to machine quilt and wanted to know what size quilts it would accommodate. I want to learn free motion quilting. I am working on teaching myself. I have watched several of your other videos. You are an amazing teacher! Thank you.
I only want this machine because years ago I came across your quilt video showing how to bind a quilt and you were awesome and it was very easy to follow you. Now I just purchased the cutie frame and I need a larger throat machine...and I was looking at this machine and your video popped up and I turned my head, but heard your voice and I said that voice sounds familiar and I looked up and it was YOU!! LOL! I'm sorry I'm long winded, NOW I KNOW I WILL PURCHASE THIS SEWING MACHINE, LOL...I have questions, is this a high or low shank machine (2) can I use rulers for free motion, because I can't free motion to save my life (3) and if I can use rulers, do I need a ruler motion foot... Thanks Erica for an awesome video!
Just got a Juki TL and I’m looking for recommendations for threads to use for garment sewing and also for some heavier bag making projects with denim and upholstery fabric. Suggestions? I would like to use large cones to save $$
I’m undecided between this machine and the 2010 because I’m not sure if I can control my speed without the speed control option on the 2010. How sensitive is the pedal in the 2000?
The bobbin case on my Juki all of a sudden felt too tight for the bobbins. One bobbin will not even turn at all and I had a difficult time getting it out. I don't know why this happened or what to do about it. I've had the machine for several years and really love it. Any suggestions for me? thank you, Gail Matthews
I Love this review. I am a fan of all your tutorials. I have been looking at this machine for some time and I have been hesitant due to the cost. I have read many reviews and one thing that I have read a few times is that you can only use Organ Needles. Is this the case? If not what do you or others use.
You are my lifesaver today!!! I purchased this same machine today so I could take it with me on our travels…I spent an hour trying to read the instructions on how to thread it…to no avail. Thank you so much for the clear demo. Watched it once and got it right the first time! So thank you thank you thank you. Now to make sure I have the tension dialed in. I was surprised how heavy this unit is. But size wise, I can store it easily. I love stopping in at all the fabric stores on the way down to Moab and see what they have…thanks again Miss Erica! I’m off and running. Wahoo. 🤗🤗
Thank you for this video. I’m afraid of the tension knob though. Is there a certain number you turn it too? Or is it a guess. I really want to purchase this.
Hi, I keep mine around 1.5, but you'll want to adjust your machine when you get it as it can vary from machine to machine, or the thickness of your fabric, and fabric type as well.
I just bought this machine .when setting the tension do you use the setting when the presser foot in raised or lowered ? I noticed it changes when raising & lowering the foot.
Hi, I set mine with the presser foot lowered. When you raise it, it releases the tension on the thread, so that's why you see the knob adjust a little.
Thank you, thank you. I'm a freelance fashion designer in New York. I need a new sewing machine and I love the way I have the French provincial décor in my apartment I don't want that big machine with that. Ugly table, which is a eye sore for people to see. This sewing machine is so perfect because when I'm not using it. I can put it in the closet. I can always sit it on top of my dining room. Table or my folds up table. When I need to do work for others, thank you. I'm buying this machine as always. No disrespect intended New York City USA 🇺🇲
I just bought my first Juki TL-2000QI. I absolutely love it! But I have never had so many issues with my top thread breaking and coming out of the thread holder. I’ve tried everything to fix this issue. Do you have any tips to keep this from happening?
Great video. What's the thickest amount of denim or canvas anyone has gone through with this machine? I need to sew through five layers of 10oz canvas. I am sure this will be fine but just wanted some feedback. Thanks in advance for any help.
Please, what are these machines that only can do the straight stitching designed for? What kind of products do you sew on a machine that v cannot make zigzag stitches? Thank you for your answer.
Hi, this is a quilting machine, you use it to piece quilt tops. You can also do basic sewing with it as well. But if you plan to do mainly home-sewing you'll want to get a machine with at least a straight and zig-zag stitch.
Thanks so much for this video! I just bought the machine and I’m so excited to use it. What are your tips for free motion quilting on this machine? I watching your video on FMQ but you were using a different machine in that one. Anything specific to know about the Juki when FMQ? Thanks!!!
I like this machine, thanks for your review! I sew clothes (from silk clothes to wool coats) and do not need quilting but I like the idea of this machine. I just love straight stitch. Would you say it's worth?
My husband bought this model for me back in 2018. I absolutely love it! However, it does not have stitch control. After see the TL models that DO have stitch control, I'm thinking about trading mine in.
Thank you for another great video. What needles do you use on your machine? I have heard organ needles are good, thought I would ask you since your my go to person for all things quilting and homeschool, thanks for all you do.
Hi Erica I am looking for a new machine. Right now I have a brother quilting machine thats 3 years old. In addition to quilting, I also started making purses and bags (I bought two of your patterns) and I need a heavy duty machine for the extra bulky materials and that can be used every day. Please let me know. Thanks!
I really like this Juki for heavy fabrics like canvas, lots of layers, even leather! I do use a denim needle when I know I'm going through thicker material but it works like a dream!! That said, it is just a straight stitch machine, so something to keep in mind. I have another Juki G-210 Excite for when I need a zig-zag or specialty stitch.
Hi Erica, I just watched your video above. Do you know what the difference is between the TL2000Qi (your machine) and the Juki TL-2010Q (which is more expensive on Amazon).
Is it hard to keep the speed consistent when free motion quilting with this model?I know the other tl have speed control. Saw a video saying it’s not ideal for beginners
My machine actually does great with thicknesses. I do recommend using a denim needle for it and going slow, but I think my Juki could handle it. If not, you might need to look at a more industrial type machine. But it's gone through everything I've tried so far including leather.
Thank you so much for the video. I have learned so much. I didn’t know there is another place to clean it at the bottom. I have a Juki TL but different model. I love it. I am very allergic to dust. I have been thinking buying a mini vacuum, would you recommend it?
I've thought about using a mini vacuum, I think that would be handy! Just make sure you don't vacuum up any parts. I once tried that on my Juki and accidentally vacuumed up one of the face plate screws! I had to order a new one through a local sewing shop which took almost two weeks. So in desperation, I ended up taking the vacuum bag apart to find it. After about an hour of going through the bag contents, I finally found the screw, it was literally embedded into the bag lining! So needless to say, I won't do that again LOL!
Can you link your oil, please? The bottle of oil that came with my Juki Haruka has a large spout and I’d much prefer the thin needle type spout like on you oil container. Thank you! Also, please update us on your sew along. I’m anxious to see what you have planned!
My husband just bought me this exact machine. I just made my first project on it and I am in love! This machine is a huge game changer for making bags. Huge difference from my old machine to this one.

I Love this review. I am a fan of all your tutorials. I have been looking at this machine for some time and I have been hesitant due to the cost. I have read many reviews and one thing that I have read a few times is that you can only use Organ Needles. Is this the case? If not what do you or others use.
Hi, my machine does best with Organ needles, that said I use Schmetz as well :)
@@erica_arndt Thank you, I just ordered my machine, I am excited.
Wahoo. 🤗🤗
Yay! Hope you love it!
@@erica_arndt I ordered it and it arrives tomorrow!!!! I’m so excited. Thank you for all the information 🥰
I’m sold! Why is it that your videos have made me buy a spinning wheel, drum carder, and now sewing machine lol
Thanks!!!
Can you show us how to oil and grease this machine. Thank you.
I like this machine, thanks for your review! I sew clothes (from silk clothes to wool coats) and do not need quilting but I like the idea of this machine. I just love straight stitch. Would you say it's worth?
Thank you! I am considering buying this machine
Could you free motion quilt a queen size on this machine? Thanks
Yep, I've FMQ a king size on it as well :)
I like the measuring tape
Hi Erica I am looking for a new machine. Right now I have a brother quilting machine thats 3 years old. In addition to quilting, I also started making purses and bags (I bought two of your patterns) and I need a heavy duty machine for the extra bulky materials and that can be used every day. Please let me know. Thanks!
I really like this Juki for heavy fabrics like canvas, lots of layers, even leather! I do use a denim needle when I know I'm going through thicker material but it works like a dream!! That said, it is just a straight stitch machine, so something to keep in mind. I have another Juki G-210 Excite for when I need a zig-zag or specialty stitch.
what size needle do you use when piecing? I just got this machine two days ago btw because of your videos 💕 and I love it
I usually use a 90/14 Schmetz Chrome for piecing
Thanks so much Erica. That is the machine I have been looking at.
Hi Erica, I just watched your video above. Do you know what the difference is between the TL2000Qi (your machine) and the Juki TL-2010Q (which is more expensive on Amazon).
Hi, do you have any problems with not having a speed control?
Thanks for the thorough review! Could you share information about your large cutting mat? I can’t seem to find anything larger than 24x36.
I was on that a-named site last night. Clicked on the sewing recommendations. There were two large mats: 40 x 60 ($180) and 40 x 80 ($200).
Hi Sure, it's from bigmatrotarycuttingsurface.com/index.html
Just got a larger mat but I eye up all the even bigger ones and pink ones and purple ones lol
Hey, thanks for the video! You mentioned it was an industrial strength machine....could this machine be used for bag making as well?! Thanks!
I use it frequently to make bags! Works like a dream!
Oh yes, this is what I sew all of my bags on!
Nice job. Thanks for the video! I have the Juki Haruka. Very similar.
Is it hard to keep the speed consistent when free motion quilting with this model?I know the other tl have speed control. Saw a video saying it’s not ideal for beginners
Yes, it's a bit hard to be consistent with speed, but you get better with practice! If you would like a speed control I suggest the TL2010 :)
Great video. I didn’t see the link for the oil.
Hi, sorry I just updated the description: amzn.to/3eat1Xm
What machine do you recommend for sewing 6-8 layers of denim or canvas? Thank you
My machine actually does great with thicknesses. I do recommend using a denim needle for it and going slow, but I think my Juki could handle it. If not, you might need to look at a more industrial type machine. But it's gone through everything I've tried so far including leather.
A great walk through. I can’t wait to get to get up to 1500 stitches!
Excellent review! Thanks
@@erica_arndt Keeping it real, confessions of an experienced sewist
Can you link your oil, please? The bottle of oil that came with my Juki Haruka has a large spout and I’d much prefer the thin needle type spout like on you oil container. Thank you!
Also, please update us on your sew along. I’m anxious to see what you have planned!
Sure, I like this one: amzn.to/3eat1Xm
