The seven dwarves aren't stupid savages living in a cave. They are hard working guys who mine treasures, have fun personalities and live in a lovely cottage.
Peter Dinklage seemed to forget that the dwarves weren’t people with dwarfism but rather the mythological dwarf species. Which by the way was how Peter Dinklage got his first major role as the main dwarf from The Narnia film Prince Caspian
Precisely. My oh my, how quickly he forgot where he started. He may be small in physical stature, but I wonder how he squeezes his overblown cranium through ordinary doorways.
What’s mind blowing to me is they put one dwarf in there lol. So seven dwarves is bad, but one is OK supposedly. Disney has lost their freaking woke minds.
So Dinklage climbed the hollywood ladder playing dwarf roles, and once he rose to stardom, he kicked down the ladder for other aspiring actors. So brave, so stunning.
In Florida there is an entire wrestling promotion made up of little people that put on live events. I wonder how many of those performers would have liked the opportunity to be one of the "Seven Dwarfs" in this film. Imagine the non CGI acrobatics that could have been done. But Disney steered clear due to his comments. Sigh.
Peter Dinklage seems to have conveniently forgotten the ‘fairytale’ part of the film. The dwarves in the original film weren’t just short people living in a cave, they were the mythological variant of dwarves that mined treasure, had warm hearts and actually lived in a nice house.
This was Walt Disney's baby. It was the first full length animated film to be released. Walt Disney was very involved in the process. He even voiced some of the characters and brought them to life during the storyboarding sessions. He even won a special Oscar for this film. It's what put his studio on the map and allowed Disney to become a major studio and allowed animation to be taken seriously as a film medium and an art form. Without snow white, Disney would not exist. I feel like Walt Disney would be rolling in his grave to see what his company and this movie has become
why would the spoiled children running disney care at all about what walt disney would want? They probably dont even know anything you just said. to them this was a vhs in a cupboard and all they care about is how they can dissect it for the sake of activism.
Especially they were considered legendary! In every fantasy they are depicted as hard fighters, hard workers, with a society. Disney is losing it... they are not freaks.😅❤ Anyway as European I start to find outrageous this USA APPROPRIATION of my culture.🤔
somthings whrong and dousent add up he was always about opertunity for all what happened to the speech he gave i dont get its almost as if this whole thing is more that they couldent find anyone due to dwarvs dying everyday cus desease there imune systems cant handel it and lack of cgi for whatever reason
The film is a giant middle finger to Walt Disney himself. He never wanted anyone to mess with Snow White. He even fired staff for making a sequel behind his back! Iger and his crew hate Walt like how Amazon hated Tolkien: “Screw you! WE’RE telling the story now!”
Disney had the chance to give 7 actors with dwarfism the role of their lifetime, but instead decided to take the soul out of one more classic and give the role to a bunch of people who have nothing to do with the story or culture. Truly inclusive.
It's evident why they did this - Inclusion for roles doesn't make everything all rosy and good. As an example, say a character who was black in history was played by a white person, that's bad, but vice versa it's the other way around. But then, you give the role to a character of an average height to a person with dwarfism (which I still think is fine) - but you then have to do the opposite and give people of average height the roles of "dwarfs".. Summary: If a black person can play a white person and a white person can play a black person and a dwarf can play a tall person, then a tall person can play a dwarf and that's why that yes, acting shouldn't be about your size (as it is acting and whomever is best at the role should be suitable for it) but it's a hard reality. Case in point, The Wonka film with people that have dwarfism being offended that Hugh Grant played an Umpa Lumpa.
But why they would set midgets as dwarfs? Dwarfs are fictional race and they have nothing to do with midgets the only thing they have in common is their height look at the hobbit or world of warcraft these dwarfs dont look like midgets why maybe becouse they are not midgets Some people find word midget offensive so Im writing this to them why I use this word 1 idc about your feelings 2 this word describes you 3 how would you distinguish dwarf from midget 4 english is not my mother language and I heard this word when I saw a midget so for me midget is a midget and dwarf is dwarf your language sucks
I blame Peter Dinklage for this , at least in part. When this was still in production, he made some waves, saying that it was ?racist, ?sizist? to continue to do Snow White with Dwarf characters. Disney capitulated, and went woke, as they often do. There are now Dwarf actors saying yo Peter, why did you screw things up for us?
They did this because they don't want to pay the writers what their worth, so in doing so, they have to recopy their classics and beat it to death thinking they don't need writers.
*The Seven Dwarfs:* • Are diligent/hard-working. • Are talented craftsmen capable of making anything from cottages to finely cut gems to glass coffins. (Yes, they live in a cottage. Not a cave. A cottage.) • Are friendly and can get along with each other despite their differences in personality. • Understand the values of teamwork, cooperation, strength in unity and safety in numbers. • Are compassionate enough to take in a homeless stranger, hide her from someone who wishes her harm and offer her aid and protection as she needs them. • Are possessed of gratitude when that woman compliments them graciously and covers their shortcomings in cleanliness and housekeeping. • Aren't afraid to sing in unison. • Are brave enough to avenge their new friend by pursuing the villainess who succeeded in harming her through deceit and treachery, even though that villainess is physically larger than they are and possessed of magic powers. • Are steadfast enough to stand watch over their fallen friend until help arrives. *Peter Dinklage:* "That's insulting!" Really, now.... 🤨
@@DC-nw3uc That could be, yeah. Warwick Davis needs to come down and thwap Peter Dinklage across the head. Good replies all around here. And I used to think Dinklage was a good guy back in the Game of Thrones years. But that sentiment's gone now. 🤔
The dwarves were hardworking, loving, loyal, brave and compassionate. It shouldn't be an insult to play these characters. They opened their home and their hearts to a stranger in need and did their best to protect her... that seems like good representation to me.
The best rebuttal that I have seen is from former WWE wrestler Hornswoggle, who is also a little person. He said Dinklage does not speak for all of them, and that most little people would be honored to be able to play as one of the seven dwarfs, and it would be excellent exposure for them.
Your right, they are iconic to the Disney franchise and if anything growing up i saw them as the heroes and positive role models for helping Snow White and asking her for little in return.
Another Dwarf that came out against what Dinklage said was Dylan Postl also know as Hornswoggle in wrestling. he went on Piers Morgan's show and made a good point that not only is Disney taking away seven roles from Dwarf actors, but also stunt work for people in the Dwarf community.
Peter Dinklage knew what he was doing. He was threatened by the idea of potential competitors in Hollywood. This film would've been an opportunity for a Dwarf to display some great character moments and create a name for themselves, potentially taking an already rare role and opportunity from him.
But that begs the question why couldn't he be the lead Dwarf? Like he was the unofficial leader of the seven? He could still get the recognition he so craves and also alow others to climb that ladder of fame
For real, its not like Peter was the 1st successful dwarf actor. There have been a handful of people who came before him that have done way more work than him, but because he's the one who became so popular he decided to hoard it for himself instead of sharing it and being inclusive towards his own people.
The dwarves in Snow White are never depicted as savage or stupid. They go mining for diamonds and gold, they’re shown as hard workers who watch out for one another and take in a woman who needs a home, welcoming her as one of their own. Plus, the dwarves in the folklore and the movie are magical creatures, not really human dwarves. And even if they were, making a live-action film would allow for real dwarves the chance to be cast in those roles. All Dinklage is doing is taking away the chance for others to shine bright like he has.
@@trekadouble757 When I said, "the chance shine bright", I meant that anyone of them could stand out among the rest. And even though they are secondary characters, actors and actresses in the past have been noticed for their talent for just minor roles. It depends on the person they cast.
@@trekadouble757 hollywood works on exposure. you wont get roles unless you've already got rolls. and a movie like this would be a great starting point. its not like a whole lot of movies have dwarves in them.
Not to mention that they're brave and selfless! They raced home to try to save Snow White from the Evil Queen and chased the Queen to fight/capture her despite knowing that she's a witch. And with broken hearts, they continued revering Snow White by guarding her body day and night until her prince came.
I'm a dwarf, and I'm not happy about this at all. I've commented on this situation a lot, I've known about it for awhile now, and the irritation just continues to grow. At first I was just angry at the fact that they were taking jobs from 7-14 little people, I say -14 people because they might have body doubles? I'm not aware if someone who is popular in Hollywood is aware of this but for regular little people, getting a job isn't that easy, most things in this world are built for the average person, which in the country where I live, the average height is 5'4" for a woman and 5'9"-5'10" I'm 4'0" and while there are ways to adapt, it's not that easy. Not only am I much shorter than people around me, I'm also slower and weaker, and the worst part is, it's much worse for other people with different types of dwarfism that makes working more difficult for them than mine does. I'm not trying to say that people can't do normal work, or make excuses, I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation, and a lot of people with dwarfism end up getting into or at least trying to get into the entertainment business and this is a huge reason why. Now you have it where once again 7-14 little people could have had jobs, could have gotten their foot in the door, but now? And what about that representation that everyone talks so much about? We could have had 7x the representation but instead we're getting 1? I hope that guy at least gets a significant role. If I wasn't like 7 years old when the GOT show came out I would have auditioned for the role of Tyrion and none of this would have ever happened! I'm jk about that, though being in that show would have been cool, I'm just so irritated and I don't have the maturity level to handle this amount of rage like a reasonable adult so making jokes of the situation is the best I can do. Edit: I just remembered another thing that irritates me, I find it a bit insulting that someone would think this is exploiting little people, like we don't have brains and can't make reasonable and logical choices for ourselves.
Some people never get over being different from the average person and seem to be angry about it forever. Thank goodness there are good, confident people who embrace being different and love who they are and live full and happy lives. ❤
@@nagoranerides3150 That's the sad truth, and most of the time the majority of the people they're speaking on the behalf of aren't even offended. This takes me back to a time when a bunch of Americans (Canadians and USA-ers, and maybe others) got offended over MAP (multiple animator project) featuring cats decked out in Ancient Egyptian looks, but no one from Egypt was getting offended
@@ohsweetmystery ❤ It's sad but true, there's so much to life that people miss out on but they limit themselves because they're just stuck in a mindset of negativity and they think they can't succeed in life because of these things when that's not the case, there's a success story for every type of person
When I was a kid the dwarfs were my favorite characters of the whole movie! They were kind to Snow White, offered her safety, they each had their different personalities. They are lovable characters. I lament that opportunity for little people to show their own personality in these roles.
In many roles Dinklage has played he comes off as self absorbed, condescending, and angry. He always comes off as a villain and I'm not surprised he has this attitude in real life.
its just actors being actors, they dont understand things the way us plebians do. Their attempts at activism makes them feel like theyre doing something good but never they never think about the causality, like taking jobs away from people never crossed his mind, its not like he did it on purpose, hes just a narcissist like the rest of them.
You can’t reasonably make that claim. He’s played good guys and bad guys and either way he’s an actor. He’s acting. Or I guess Henry Fonda had to be a nice guy in real life up until the point he filmed Once Upon a Time in the West and then he was a bad guy in real life?
As a child, the Snow White is the only Disney character I could ever see myself in. I have dark hair and am pale to the point where other children would laugh at me. People still comment on my paleness and are outraged by my skin colour now that I've been an adult for quite a while. My grandma used to call me Snow White, when I was a kid. She thought it was cute. I never even met someone looking like me. This is wrong.
This!! I used too be liked to characters like Agatha from the School For Good and Evil books (who was described as bug eyed, pasty white and ill-looking) and Snow White. These characters shaped who I am today, and it makes me sad that they've now been changed in the name of 'inclusivity' - Agatha was made a coloured, traditionally pretty girl while, I mean, you can see 'Snow White' here. I'd love for there to be more movies and books for people of different backgrounds; as a writer I often make them and get friends opinions on how true to life they are; to make room for those who need those same characters to fall back on in their darkest moments. But that is exactly what I'm sure those people want too; MORE - not rehashed characters that aren't unique to themselves. Not characters made to profit off your hardships. Characters that actually represent who they are, and not characters clearly made for another time and to represent other people.
As another pale woman, I find it funny how woke people say that race swapping is okay because POC need representation due to the fact that they tend to get bullied because of their appearence, yet they are ok with taking away representation from pale people (Snow White) and gingers (Ariel) even though those are two groups of people who also get made fun of because of their appearence
Same, I was like out of all Disney princess I actually most relate to snow. I went to public schools all my life in NY. I’m Hispanic but very very pale. I have dark brown curly hair and a baby face. Thicker lips too. I didn’t fit in anywhere because of these traits. I was obsessed with the story of Snow White because it was someone who looked like me. Theres nothing wrong with the original, if they want to represent other kinds of people or fix what they thought was wrong with the original, then make a different original story. Creativity is no where to be found.
the irony for me cause I'm a very pale Latina with very dark hair and other girls with skin (tanned ""healthy"" latina skin tone) like the one whos paying snow white were the one who use to make fun of me calling me a ghost or samara(the girl from the ring) lmao XD
Snow White was my favourite princess when I was little, I look a lot like her, too: very pale skin, dark hair. And I was also made fun of when I was a child for looking 'transparent'.
The seven dwarfs are some of the loveliest, most iconic characters in Disney. They rescued Snow White and took care of her, not a single bad soul in them. And their statue only adds on to their cuteness, what more could you ask for in terms of characters to be played! Then in comes Peter Dinklage, who cashed in majorly as... oh dwarves
Love that Dinklage is gate keeping 7 dwarf roles that will never be filled ever. I can't name another dwarf actor off the top of my head, but at least old Petey's feelings were spared!
So true there are only so many dwarf actors and even fewer that most of us would even know by name or take forever to even remember. The sad thing the Disney 7 dwarf characters weren't even negatives they were the freakin heroes

The one thing that bothers me the most about this live action is not even the dwarves--it’s the fact the director thought it was a good idea to erase the love plot and turn Snow into a rebel. Like, God forbid a victim of abuse to be rescued from a problem she literally cannot solve by herself. Bloody hell, why do people see “being saved by a prince” as a sign of weakness?? Abuse victims often cannot save themselves, and that’s OKAY!

His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Yep that pisses me off too. The Dwarf’s and now this, basically everything that made Snow White Snow White has been taken away, I don’t even mind the actress being latina. I like Rachel. But they ruined this movie with their wokeism nonesense and now I cant watch this.
Because we all know that women don’t need help from anyone, even less from a man. But for real, it annoys me too and is one of the reasons I get a bit scared whenever I see that there is remake of a beloved childhood movie with a female main character. They all get ruined by today’s view of a strong woman. Honestly, nowadays I prefer movies with men as the main characters so much more because most females annoy me and I am a woman myself. I miss female characters who aren’t scared to be feminine and who find strength in kindness or at least aren’t completely out of touch with their emotions. Not to forget, characters who are flawed and can ask for help, if needed.
Also,Peter Dinklage did an amazing thing in epitomizing how a person of short stature can play and badassify the decidedly limited number of roles that will unfortunately, but understandably, be available. Then he pulled the ladder up behind him.
The only roles that are out of his reach are badass action heros. Warriors. If any normal sized woman can potentially throw you against a wall, there is no way you can portray an action hero believably. Those roles, outside of Mary Sue characters, have been off limits to women for all of history and still they managed to become millionaires in Hollywood.
@@Malthus X-Men? Come on...that was a great role. Also, giant Dwarf who creates Thor's hammer in Avengers. He has had some big roles. Gotta be fair to the guy.
Peter Dinklage' stance is "don't hire me because I'm a dwarf" but has made a career of being said dwarf. He's not only ruined his career but the careers of other little people who didn't have the same opportunities he has had.
As I've just written in a comment to Matt Walsh's video: - Dwarves are present in Old Norse sagas since the 1200s, tales that were later taken up by Germanic folklore. They belong in European sagas such as the tales of Siegfried and Dietrich von Bern, where they have their own individual personality, both for good or for evil. Peter Dinklage disappointed me a lot: I wish he had used his star status to lobby for seven "real" dwarves, and for their history to be told as it is in European sagas, with all their dignity and culture and nuances. - PS: I forgot to tell Matt that this is appropriation of my European culture, and that it takes away jobs for actual little people. Peter himself, but also Meredith Eaton, Martin Klebba and my personal fave character actors, Lisa Hammond and Danny Woodburn, not to mention the legend Warwick Davis. We're already at 6... was it so difficult? Much love.
Not only those you mentioned, but also upcoming actors fresh out of stage school. Not every name has to be a star, we need to give chances to unknowns too
The thumbnail is gold, "Her skin as white as snow, her lips as red as blood & her hair as black as ebony" Brett fits the description 1000 times better than what Disney is putting on.
@taliavelazquez358 they could have hired dove Cameron OR the Sofia Carson who literally played the evil queen's daughter and looks like snow white. They are well known and great singers and actresses btw.
When I showed Matt Walsh's video on this to my mom, she jokingly said, "No asians? I am offended on behalf of all Asia!" And I responded with, "Spoken like a true liberal."
Yeah I'm always disappointed where there are no South Asians in castings. Slowly Far East Asians are beginning to get more recognition (Quantum Leap reboot) But I've yet to see an actual South Asian take the lead in anything in a Western production
Oh yeah. I remember when Dinkwad said this. I can't believe how badly he misrepresented the dwarves in Snow White too. Those lads were the heroes of the story and lived in a cozy cottage in the woods. They mined gems for a living like fantasy dwarves do.
Honestly I think it shows how Hollywood looks down on people who live in the country, or aka a rural setting. And people who are laborers. It’s the viewpoint of very stuffy city dwellers. 😅
Which is another reason my favorite storytellers are C. S. Lewis and Tolkien. Because they were unquestionably brilliant men who were academically exceptional but both of them said that the place they most felt at home was in the countryside, in nature. And I know C. S. Lewis ended up purposely choosing to live in a more rural setting at the end of his life. They loved nature and “a simple life.” Obviously that’s featured in their famous stories too. The heroes in their stories quite literally and often were common folk and people who lived in rural settings too. But, I think for Hollywood today that’s unfathomable. They always want to portray rural people as unintelligent and as being forced to live there. Even in for instance the Rings of Power disaster. Remember how horrible and unkempt the hobbits were in ROP? And how the heroine hobbit-her whole thing was she wanted to leave, but people were holding her back, due to their “backwards ways.” As they imply. Whereas look at the hobbits in LOTRs. The hobbits in LOTRs have a great life, they’re not dirty and unkempt, and they don’t want to leave but are forced to. And on their whole journey they’re longing to go back home. Which I believe is something that many Hollywood people cannot understand or relate to.
Now that DW+ announced their Snow White movie version… I wonder if the thumbnail of this video was some kind of a hint (with Brett dressed as Snow White) 😂
In most of the fantasy stories we are familiar with (Lord of the Rings etc.) the dwarfs are an entirely different species. They are not small humans. They are an entire people unto themselves with their own culture, language, and traditions. This also how it is in many games like Dungeons and Dragons and all the other games it inspired. Tolkien even started using the word dwarvish instead of dwarfish, so these people were called dwarves instead of dwarfs. This has become the standard usage in most fantasy fiction and games.
And no little people played the dwarves or hobbits in Jackson’s films. Because he understood what they are. So my question is not, “why aren’t littke people playing the dwarves?” But instead, “why aren’t the dwarves dwarves?” Like in the actual story of the film?
The seven dwarfs were a brilliant piece of story telling, representing multiple personality types and interests, many of which (or all) were easy for children to comprehend and attach to. So for 90yrs and 5 or 6 generations of movie goers, this is the joyful memory of the Brother Grimm fairytale. A princess badly treated and because of her good nature is permitted to survive the huntsman. She needs to change and grow as an individual spending time with her new friends, to be worthy of the dwarfs story retelling following her permanent sleep. The shows the prince her as a wonderful young woman and he wants to rescue her. Great storytelling, and modern Disney needs to f*** it up! Unbelievable. STOP giving Disney your money. They don't deserve it. No streaming, no theme parks, no movies.
you could not have put it best. When I was a kid, as I watched the movie, I never cared I wasn't a dwarf because I could see myself through their personalities and it was sooo fun and more meaningful to be, as a kid, than literally see myself on the screen. It's shameful what Disney has been doing, and I don't understand why. Their productions are dull, boring, arrogant, and not tasteful, diminishing the characters. Not to mention, the box office always gets f*cked up, so, again, WHY???!
The original Snow White was just SOOOO FULL of problems for modern Disney... 1) Snow White was... well... white. 2) She was feminine... 3) She was kind... 4) She needed males... 5) She needed HELP from males... 6) She was a "damsel in distress"... Disney just couldn't allow that.
He keeps popping up more and more. My favorite is a protestant pastor with a RUclips channel that has used his videos as references when he discusses pop culture, Paul Vander Kay.
In the story that my parents used to read for me before bed, the Queen picks her finger while sewing and when she sees her blood drops on the snow, she made a wish: "How I wish that I had a daughter that had skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood and hair as black as ebony."The tale starts even before Snow White was born. It’s crazy that they keep changing other cultures’ stories to play into the woke shenanigans just because they’re too lazy to find stories from those cultures they’re so desperate to promote
Exactly!! Thank you The best part of watching Aladdin growing up was that it included parts of my culture and it had people who looked like me Give me more of that Disney, don’t just “repaint” the old stories, written by the Grimm white brothers 😅
Imagine how good a live action remake of Snow White could potentially be? With even halfway charismatic real little people, the dynamics could be amazing. A slow, dramatic pace, kinda or very gritty and dark but with just the right amount of hope and beauty… hopefully it’ll be done properly someday.

'Midget' was always sort of a slur, although it did become fairly synonymous to the general public so I get why people think that
To Me, "Mirror Mirror" is still the best live action telling of the Snow White story. It was comedic, visually stunning, the character growth of Snow White was amazing, and the dwarf actors were fantastic.❤❤❤
Let’s not forget a great live action version has already been made. Anyone remember Mirror Mirror with Lily Collins and Julia Roberts? Fantastic movie in my opinion. Did not shy away from the original fairytale but also put a new, fun spin on it. And there were 7 dwarves, as there should be!
I was literally about to comment this, it was an amazing movie and they even had some originality to it too. Also she developed and learned how to fight and protect her friends from the dwarves (meaning that they taught her how to fight)while also showing her true nature of kindness and nurturing. And that's how you make the fem lead strong, by giving her character development through struggle yes but not taking away all of her true nature from the original film. Can't believe they tried to remake snow white when that one was beautiful. And the dwarves had such amazing personalities and were hilarious. ❤
Disney had such a good thing going with Hercules, Tarzan, Fox and the Hound, Peter Pan. The classic Disney is why they became so damn huge. Business 101 says that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I think she'll play a good evil queen. She was singing to everyone in the world to imagine no possessions while living in a million dollar house. That's pretty evil lol
I like Link's point about kids wanting to see themselves represented in media. Kids with dwarfism deserve to see themselves represented by more than just Peter Dinklage. I feel especially bad for little girls with dwarfism bc you never see them in anything other than reality TV
Just to put into perspective what the “outdated stereotypes” of the original film were; hardworking men, working daily to mine out gold and precious jewels, all living in complete harmony with each other despite their differences in a beautiful cottage in the forest, who were more than willing to help a girl they didn’t know the first thing about, and went toe to toe with a witch for her. Now that’s terrible stereotyping if I’ve ever seen it.
Honestly it breaks my heart, because we all know what disney was capable of, and the sheer quality of their old work. I know for sure that I’ll only show old disney movies to my future kids
Dinklage is the kind of dwarf who kicks other dwarfs down to secure his own role(s) as the only dwarf in Hollywood. EDIT: The dwarf community shaking their fists in the air screaming "DINKLEBERG"
I saw an interview with Dylan Mark Postl (Hornswoggle in the WWE). He definitely does not feel that Dinklage speaks for him. He made an even better point, however, when he mentioned this is not just 6 dwarves out of a job; they need stunt doubles as well, so is is probably at least 13. And when Hollywood is not exactly making a lot of movies for people his size, to see these spots that should have been made for them taken away because of Dinklage really does not please him.
Also i think appearances have nothing to do with relating to a character. As a girl, when i was young the characters i loved and related to the most were Spirit the stallion and Simba. You don't need to relate to a character to love a story or feel for the characters and you cannot make characters that everyone can relate to. I think thinking of those things isn't very good when writing a story.
I agree with you all! Seeing yourself represented on screen is about seeing somebody with a character like yours, with a heart and bravery like yours. It has nothing to do with skin color or hair texture or any of the rest of it.

As best I can tell, the term 'dwarfism' stems from myth, rather than neatly mapping to the physical condition. I haven't actually seen Snow White (though the visuals of dwarves seem akin to those of garden gnomes), so I don't know the mechanics of its story, but often characters of little stature are meant for small children to identify with (like r2d2). Substituting them would require maintaining whatever purpose they served in the original. 7 adults in a cottage sounds like a gang on the lam.
The Dwarves were miners and hence dwarves. Small people can fit through the mine shafts. This may have origin in Norse mythology as well where dwarves were the blacksmiths of the gods.
Yeah that was Mirror Mirror. I absolutely loved her portrayal of Snow White. They allowed her to play Snow White as a inexperienced young girl who had specific moral desires and wanted to see the growth and freedom of her people. However because she was in prisons by her stepmother, She had no confidence in her own personal abilities. So the friendship she developed with the dwarves allowed her to learn how to stand on her own feet and grow in the confidence she needed to be the ideal leader for her people. Plus the costumes were amazing! And I absolutely loved the dwarf actors. They were all wonderful, my two favorites though are still Napoleon and Wolf.
The one with Sigorney Weaver had the best Snow White for me, Lily Colins, Kristin Kreuk and Kristin Stewart looked nice but there's something about a darker version of Snow White that I just adore. I know the girls name in that is technically not Snow White but I count it since Snow White is the origin story and it's a shame Disney can't learn to adapt their Latino version in a similar way instead of just straight up "mordernizing" the animated Classic... Shame.
Right?! She looks perfect Snow White in that thumbnail. I'd watch that :) Tho I still wouldn't if they attached the current band of 7 diversity hires to the project. Sorry, Brett :/ :D
Mirror Mirror was a fantastic live action version of Snow White. Yes, it was from the view of the evil Queen, but it also made Snow White (actually pale) and strong, independent AND had diversity! All the dwarfs were awesome with their own personalities and helped Snow White find her inner strength and she was the hero in the move! Personally I absolutely love the movie! This version already looks awful and is going to blow just like the others they’ve brought recently. Changing the whole story, cutting the Prince and not even using appropriate actors (which would be super diverse because they don’t get many roles apart from being dwarfs or elves). So stupid 🙄
Diversity is not supposed to be a cultural appropriation of someone else work. It's becaming outrageously offensive! Next they are going to make Aladdin white or Moana or Mulan? 😑
Just watched Mirror Mirror with my daughter the other night. It is a great remake of the original. All of the dwarfs are played by dwarfs, with diversity in ethnicity. Disney didn’t need to do a remake, but could have done an excellent job had they wanted to. Cinderella and Maleficent were both pretty good. They are killing themselves in wokeness.
@@biancaenera2500I mean, Aladdin was originally a Chinese tale, not an Arabic one, but there was phenomenal writing behind the original film, so who cares?
Dinklage wants the monopoly on all LP roles. If he can't have it, no one can. He is the complete opposite of Warwick Davis, who actually is supportive of other LP actors and tries to get them more roles.
His last name kinda says it all... he just seems like a very bitter, egotistical person who won't share the spotlight with other LP actors and actresses.
I have nothing against Rachel Zegler. She’s an amazing actress and an amazing singer. But of all the Disney Princesses that they could’ve cast her as that would make so much more sense, or they could create a new story for her. They have it in them-Encanto was Disney’s most profitable release in the last 5 years and not only is it an amazing film, it’s an original story.
Zeglar is a hardcore SJW though and is outspoken about needing less white people in movies and shows so her poor people can feel represented because, they are low IQ apes that need to see people that look like them and some other far left bullshit nonsense that isnt true.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Zelger casting. Why are you even questioning her whiteness when she's white just like how most Latinos identify as racially white. For the record being Latino or Hispanic has nothing to do with race. In fact the King of Spain is far more Hispanic than American who claims to be Hispanic and he's Greek.
@@gloriathomas3245 the character was named for her looks. and allow me to reiterate her description from the original fairy tale: “skin as white as snow.” Zegler has a very noticeable tan.
@@gloriathomas3245ust like the dwarfs she doesn't look like the character in the book. Would be just has wrong to cast Elle Fanning for the role for example And btw I'm a white Hispanic (Portuguese) and most of us wouldn't have the right look for this part and would be more like Jasmine. Unlike some other characters the description of her skin, lips and hair are important in the book so they should respect the authors
Saw the trailer of your Snow White! I am excited for your portrayal of the true Snow White! I find it funny how in 2012 there were two different Snow White movies by two different studios, now 12 years later in 2024, two different Snow White movies by two different studios. Funny how the universe works with repeating history. Edit: I realise now that the movie has been moved to 2025 so my previous comment has become outdated, fast 😂
The thing is, if they really want to avoid the stereotypical depiction, they could expand and added depth to all the dwarfs character. But they instead decide to reimagining only the looks and ended up making it more superficial than before
So my friend in undergrad went to a Catholic girls school in NJ, and Rachel went there. She just told me Rachel was a bully lololololol, and didn’t identify as being Colombian, rather more German since she has a German father. And as someone with Colombian parents, I just loveeeeeeee when people start claiming a culture they mostly rejected when it benefits them now 😂😂
I remember... when I was a kid. It did not matter if the character was black, white... nor if it was a fox or a horse or even a teapot. Cause the reason we saw these characters as us, was not cause of what they looked like, but what was inside. You cannot tell me you've never felt a sense of not belonging, like Todd (Fox and the hound). You cannot tell me you've never felt as playful as Chip (Beauty and the beast). It did not matter. No one cared how a character looked, the magic was to be able to empathize and see yourself feeling the same emotions as your favorite character, no matter what they were.
i played the life action little mermaid for my cousins they said why is ariel black, are you sure this is little mermaid. That was when i knew his representation agenda is a lie
@@ElevenByde There is currently a lot of pressure on skin color at the moment. Besides, if they have seen the original animated version they may simply not recognize the character as clearely design is a lot, especially when it's accompanied by many bright colors. The animated one has bright colors, while the live action is far duller. That's just a fact that kids enjoy bright colors more (NOT talking about the skin, litterally something as simple as the hair for example). The red corals, colorful fish, even Flounder

I always much preferred the non-Disney live action versions of these fairytales anyway. The Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror were both live action Snow White movies I thoroughly enjoyed
100% agree on Mirror Mirror, plus they added more dimension with Snow by having her bond and fully join the Dwarves' lifestyle. She didn't sacrifice any of her core personality (still very feminine and kind) but she could hold her own
@@roseblade2064 I found Mirror Mirror a bit absurd at times, with how the Queen was portrayed in her spare time and whatnot, but they overall kept to the original story well

My response was something like "how is spreading hate on your stories going to make anything better?" and she blocked me 😂.
Love a Critical Drinker soundbite in here. He's great at movie reviews and perfectly explain the problems with many of Disney's remakes, particularly his review of Peter Pan and Wendy was very good and gets a huge recommendation from me.
I remember when everyone could see themselves in the character because of the character's "character," you know their resolve, their bravery, tenacity. This new generation is lost...😵
Exactly. People have made their entire personalities based on race/gender/sexuality and literally nothing else! They've been brainwashed to think there is literally no other personality traits or things they can identify with besides those three things. It's sad and I'd say "I can't believe people fell for it", but these people are called "libtards" for a reason!
I find it amazing that Disney thinks that using people with dwarfism to play dwarves is "reinforcing stereotypes." How is it a stereotype to use actors who best match the physical characteristics of the characters? What's next, not using child actors to play child characters because that would just reinforce a stereotype?
So using a straight/able bodied person to play a gay, queer or disabled person is oppression, but getting someone with the affliction of the role (a paraplegic for a paraplegic, a dwarf for a dwarf, an enby for an enby, etc) is “reinforcing negative stereotypes”, but not having those roles is erasure and oppression? How the fuck do we win?!?!
Not only do you have seven dwarfs out of work , but everything that goes with them , like stunt doubles and whatever specific needs that might require other dwarf's to help out on set.
The thing is, the dwarves in Snow White do not represent human beings with dwarfism but are supposed to be actual fairytale dwarves from the European mythology. It literally has nothing to do with Dinklage.
Disney should have hired little people but updated the script to show that they are not stereotypes. Snow White could have started to give them each the names, Happy, Sleepy, etc, and one of the Dwarves stops her and says "Hey lady we already have names, I'm Fred, he's Tony, etc.
I agree with this. In little mermaid they changed the names of the sisters for no real reason so they could definitely have changed the names of the dwarves instead of eliminating them all together
@@windycityliz7711 Peter Dinklage was the one who initially complained to Disney about casting actual little people in the Snow White movie to portray the dwarves. Disney then caved because they feared they would be cancelled by the woke mob. Now it’s blowing up in their face. As a nod to this, I assume its why he’s next to Brett in the cover of the video. The more you know.
@@TheDudeAbides95 I don't think he has that much influence over the Disney Powerhouse. Seriously. But when he questioned doing the live action remake turns out he was right.
Imagine how lucky the one dwarf feels that he squeaked through their quota. And guess what? I think he looks just fine in the role. Too bad they couldn't have gotten 6 other little folks in similar costumes.
I feel like the show Once Upon a Time handled the dwarves situation better, because those men were similar in stature to each other and it felt cohesive. Side note: when did Disney decide they’re over doing animated movies? Cause they seem a rarity now.
Warwick Davis made a great point where he basically said he didn't mind taking roles of dwarves and things because he chose to do it but it does at times feel exploitative when people are made to be a spectacle just because they are different.
Depends on how you define "spectacle". If the audience is watching the film and appreciating the actors, or laughing with them instead of at them, then it's not really disrespectful. And of course we all need to laugh at ourselves sometimes. I know an autistic comedian for instance whose shtick is mostly jokes about his autism. But he's choosing to tell the jokes, coming up with the jokes and actively seeking an audience. He's not being dragged out and mocked against his will or anything. In the past, a lot of little persons were shunned or mocked in most careers and had to turn to places like freak shows and cheap movies just to survive. Nowadays you see little persons in all walks of life and in numerous different careers, but some still choose media and hope to act because they enjoy acting.
The seven dwarves aren't stupid savages living in a cave. They are hard working guys who mine treasures, have fun personalities and live in a lovely cottage.
They also literally save Snow White's life and befriend and help her. But ya know, can't have males looking that good this day and age.
As a child I loved the dwarves so much I told my mother I wanted to be a dwarf when I grow up.

What’s mind blowing to me is they put one dwarf in there lol. So seven dwarves is bad, but one is OK supposedly. Disney has lost their freaking woke minds.
Yeah, he was quick to snatch up the step stool behind him as soon as he got up on that table.
So Dinklage climbed the hollywood ladder playing dwarf roles, and once he rose to stardom, he kicked down the ladder for other aspiring actors. So brave, so stunning.
So there's selling out ... and then there's THAT :/
Exactly!how many up and coming actors would have like to have had that choice!
Sigh.
Maybe he no longer identifies as a little guy...
Disney hasn’t learned their lesson. Maybe this failed attempt to remake one of the most iconic Disney movies will do them in.
Peter Dinklage seems to have conveniently forgotten the ‘fairytale’ part of the film. The dwarves in the original film weren’t just short people living in a cave, they were the mythological variant of dwarves that mined treasure, had warm hearts and actually lived in a nice house.
Exactly, I've been very confused why people are talking about them as if they were meant to be humans. Did we forget about mythological dwarves?
and they also literally lived in a house... not a cave
He’s conveniently forgotten it because he has the opposite character of those guys.

Dwarfs are fictional race and they have nothing to do with midgets the only thing they have in common is their height look at the hobbit or world of warcraft these dwarfs dont look like midgets why maybe becouse they are not midgets
Some people find word midget offensive so Im writing this to them why I use this word
1 idc about your feelings
2 this word describes you
3 how would you distinguish dwarf from midget
4 english is not my mother language and I heard this word when I saw a midget so for me midget is a midget and dwarf is dwarf your language sucks
Mmhmm.

Yh my favourite dwarf characters were from Willow. That was true diversity, OG lucas and Ron Howard.
@epryn i dont see how that sort of character development is germane to the story.

The best rebuttal that I have seen is from former WWE wrestler Hornswoggle, who is also a little person. He said Dinklage does not speak for all of them, and that most little people would be honored to be able to play as one of the seven dwarfs, and it would be excellent exposure for them.
This comment should be pinned 👏👏

There's a whole world of people out there making a living off being offended on behalf of someone else.

Then in comes Peter Dinklage, who cashed in majorly as... oh dwarves

How is she meant to wake up without the true love kiss part? Makes no sense it’s ridiculous

Brett: Fine. I'll do it myself.
Also,Peter Dinklage did an amazing thing in epitomizing how a person of short stature can play and badassify the decidedly limited number of roles that will unfortunately, but understandably, be available. Then he pulled the ladder up behind him.
Yes by playing Tyrion Lannister
The only roles that are out of his reach are badass action heros. Warriors. If any normal sized woman can potentially throw you against a wall, there is no way you can portray an action hero believably.
Those roles, outside of Mary Sue characters, have been off limits to women for all of history and still they managed to become millionaires in Hollywood.

Oh yeah. I remember when Dinkwad said this. I can't believe how badly he misrepresented the dwarves in Snow White too. Those lads were the heroes of the story and lived in a cozy cottage in the woods. They mined gems for a living like fantasy dwarves do.
yes, operative word being "misrepresented". truth, lies, misinformation - it's all the same to leftists.
It stems from Norse mythology, many of the dwarf names Tolkien used comes from the Poetic Edda.
@@STOPLIKEBEGGARS101 - I would have thought Peter Dinklage would have known this since he played Nordic dwarf character in Avengers Endgame
But they identify as dwarves. They identify as dwarves so hard.
And no little people played the dwarves or hobbits in Jackson’s films. Because he understood what they are. So my question is not, “why aren’t littke people playing the dwarves?” But instead, “why aren’t the dwarves dwarves?” Like in the actual story of the film?
Yes! This is exactly what I was thinking!!

Also she developed and learned how to fight and protect her friends from the dwarves (meaning that they taught her how to fight)while also showing her true nature of kindness and nurturing. And that's how you make the fem lead strong, by giving her character development through struggle yes but not taking away all of her true nature from the original film. I like Link's point about kids wanting to see themselves represented in media. Kids with dwarfism deserve to see themselves represented by more than just Peter Dinklage. I feel especially bad for little girls with dwarfism bc you never see them in anything other than reality TV
Just to put into perspective what the “outdated stereotypes” of the original film were;
hardworking men, working daily to mine out gold and precious jewels, all living in complete harmony with each other despite their differences in a beautiful cottage in the forest, who were more than willing to help a girl they didn’t know the first thing about, and went toe to toe with a witch for her.
Now that’s terrible stereotyping if I’ve ever seen it.

Warwick Davis did no such thing. So it just goes to show the arrogance of modern Hollywood.
Dinkleberg?
I saw an interview with Dylan Mark Postl (Hornswoggle in the WWE). He definitely does not feel that Dinklage speaks for him. He made an even better point, however, when he mentioned this is not just 6 dwarves out of a job; they need stunt doubles as well, so is is probably at least 13. And when Hollywood is not exactly making a lot of movies for people his size, to see these spots that should have been made for them taken away because of Dinklage really does not please him.
Should Dinklage really have this much of a say, in the name of short people, since he played a GIANT sized space dwarf in Infinity War?
When I was a child, the last thing on my mind was seeing myself in movies and T.V. I loved to meet new people and get to know what they were like.

There are various types of mythological people ranging from dwarves, gnomes, fairies, elves, giants, so it's not a slam dunk.

She just told me Rachel was a bully lololololol, and didn’t identify as being Colombian, rather more German since she has a German father. And as someone with Colombian parents, I just loveeeeeeee when people start claiming a culture they mostly rejected when it benefits them now 😂😂
Hahaha.. she identified as a German and was a bully?? Well that's never happened before! 🫣
Facts, it’s so sad and disgusting.
He father isn't German. He's Polish. P-O-L-I-S-H. A whole different country. People need to get their facts straight before they make comments.

There is currently a lot of pressure on skin color at the moment.
The red corals, colorful fish, even Flounder
just realizing that this thumbnail was foreshadowing
Those dwarves look like the B team from a Dungeons and Dragons setting.
He has a problem with the "sterotypes" and at the same times he gets to be the only one of the 7. He just don't want other people like him take a similar role
The critical drinker!!!! Yes! we all need an episode with Brett interviewing the drinker... It'll be epic!
Nah, it'll be fine
Russell Brand aired an episode with him, it is great.
Well if he is a dwarf in 7 dwarves then he is probably Grumpy
I want Brett and Critical to collaborate in a movie review or screening. That’s gold
She didn't sacrifice any of her core personality (still very feminine and kind) but she could hold her own
And mirror mirror had real dwarves in it? And cannibals as well lol
@@roseblade2064 I found Mirror Mirror a bit absurd at times, with how the Queen was portrayed in her spare time and whatnot, but they overall kept to the original story well
I remember back when Rachel was first coming up after her being casted in West Side Story was announced, and I replied to an instagram story of hers where she was saying she hated anyone who was unvaccinated and going out without masks because they were killing people. My response was something like "how is spreading hate on your stories going to make anything better?" and she blocked me 😂.
Oh wow shes one of them?🤢 biggest reason why we will never watch this movie or anything with her
I absolutely despised her the second I saw her on screen.
Good on ya!
Damn!
You absolutely should be able to see yourself represented on screen no matter what you look like….. but not in every film you watch.
Love a Critical Drinker soundbite in here. He's great at movie reviews and perfectly explain the problems with many of Disney's remakes, particularly his review of Peter Pan and Wendy was very good and gets a huge recommendation from me.
Disney was my entire childhood, im so upset that its gone in this path. I miss the old disney.
Same
Yeah and they’re about to ruin hercules too…
I remember when everyone could see themselves in the character because of the character's "character," you know their resolve, their bravery, tenacity.
EXACTLY
This movie should be "Woke Latina Brown And A Dwarf, A Black Woman, A Black guy, 3 White Hobos and Bob Ross" 😂😂😂
“Snow somewhat white and the individual diverse peoples of the world” what a great idea disney.
Snow White could have started to give them each the names, Happy, Sleepy, etc, and one of the Dwarves stops her and says "Hey lady we already have names, I'm Fred, he's Tony, etc.
ppfftt omfg that'd be fantastic honestly
I agree with this. In little mermaid they changed the names of the sisters for no real reason so they could definitely have changed the names of the dwarves instead of eliminating them all together
You caught me off guard with the drunken critic lol. Love that dude.
Hands down. Peter Dinklage is to blame. The one “dwarf” looks like he’s from 1970’s Bee Gees concert with that Fro.😂
Oh he is not. This is Disney all the way.
Yeah but the adults and professionals should not be listening to only this Dinklage dork
Brown Sugar, the 6 Hobos and the 1 Token Dwarf.
Imagine how lucky the one dwarf feels that he squeaked through their quota. And guess what? I think he looks just fine in the role. Too bad they couldn't have gotten 6 other little folks in similar costumes.
Eight?
@@sbffsbrarbrr lol, ya got me
I feel like the show Once Upon a Time handled the dwarves situation better, because those men were similar in stature to each other and it felt cohesive.
Side note: when did Disney decide they’re over doing animated movies? Cause they seem a rarity now.
Gosh that series was so cring but I agree done it better than disney the casting and stuff
Love that you included the little clip of the critical drinker. Dudes a legend 🙏
Warwick Davis is awesome! He loved what he does and always considered the job the last thing he does
