What people need to realise is that the seven dwarves were main protagonists in Snow White. They were heroes who protected Snow White. They never lived in caves but in a cottage which Snow White dutifully looked after as these little people went off to do a hard days work every day in the mines. It was a very co-operative relationship and nothing demeaning towards little people.
They also were not midgets. Dwarves were a particular race, as in the Lord of the Rings, where they were portrayed as brave, strong, and heroic. The Woke just hate everything.

I'm not sure but I think Dinklage is conflating real-life dwarfs with dwarfs from fantasy stories. There's not really any danger of people watching Snow White and actually believing that all little people live in caves. What in the world would be wrong with a group of dwarfs being heroes, Mr Dinklage? It would be a 100% positive thing to have a group of seven of them protecting and helping Snow White for a new generation to see.

He didn’t say he was against it though. Yes, he seems to be implying it, but wording is important. He called out the hypocrisy of changing the gender of Snow White to be “less offensive,” while not giving the same “woke” treatment to the 7 dwarves. The dwarves are heroes in the story. They raise a girl and keep her safe in their home. And they have an amazing work ethic. Why is this backward?

Peter Dinklage was right. It is stupid to cater to wokism to turn the title character whose name is Snow White because she is so beautiful because her skin is as white as snow into a brown skinned latino. That is sooo progressive but at the same time they stick to the offensive old stereotypes of dwarfs. Dwarfs are depicted as cute little men that the beautiful woman stays with and is protected by but they are not any thing a beautiful woman wants and she falls in love with the normal sized man she never saw before. Dwarfs are depicted as not even human. So of course she wouldn't fall in love with one of them. They should scrap the remake. The whole idea is outdated. The animated film would never be made today.
This is not 'Progressive,' this is 'Regressive.' Most of the things I have seen people call 'progressive' are not progressing us towards a better world at all. Dwarfs not being able to play the role of dwarfs and men competing in women sports would be two obvious examples.

I think it depends on the movie and the company. When it comes to Tolkien stuff, it has been established what kinds of Dwarfs they are in that universe and it would be difficult to have actual dwarf actors play them. But here we have Disney, the most woke company on the planet, casting a Latina actress as Snow White and going on a crusade about how "dated" the original movie is. Yeah he's actually quite wrong in my opinion, but due to your point about them being a different species. I'm actually pro Latina Snow White casting, and Peter dinklage is basically saying they should've cast white girl as snow white because they didn't wokify the whole movie.
Regardless, honestly it would even save Disney money to use actual "little people" to play the roles of the dwarves. As they wouldn't have to do all the green screen and prospective changing work, as a opposed to using "normal" sized people. I think Hornswoggle makes a good point. That there are "little people" actors/performers out there what would love to land a role doing this... Regardless of the "fairy tale dwarves" .

I don’t understand Peter’s issue. I don’t view the dwarves as disrespectful characters at all. They are the heart and soul of the story and ultimately the heroes.

And I am amazed that Disney corporation even decided that they would possibly reconsider casting little people/dwarves for these roles. They could have cast a very handsome gentleman to play in beauty and the beast. Or very delightful stepmother and stepsisters for Cinderella. Talk about a box office and video flop..... They would lose mega dollars on that one ... so why would they even bother to make it? Speaking is a little person myself, it is what it is... I do NOT agree with that first proposition. We do NOT need to progressive, at least not as the word is defined today. All we need to do is treat human beings like human beings. Dinklage accepted the role in Elf when literally the entire point was to be made fun of for being a dwarf. Unbelievable how after he wins an award or two and makes a few million, he forgets everything that got him to where he is.

They lived in a nice cabin in the original story and in the previous animated Disney movie. They just worked in that mine/"cave" collecting gemstones, many of which they kept themselves and were portrayed as being pretty rich/well-off themselves. Dinklage has no idea what he's talking about.

That was one of my first thoughts, that Dinklage just ruined 7 very hard to find jobs for a dwarf actors.
Makes me wonder if he doesn’t want any competition. Take away these roles and prevent audiences from seeing other little people actors who may be very talented and could go on to take roles from him in the future. This is just what came to mind when I couldn’t figure out why he would really want the film canceled.
Imagine being an actor on a fantasy series, not being aware that the dwarves in snow white are fantasy dwarves, similar to Gimli from Lord of the Rings.

Such a good point. Also, I'd like to point out that the dwarfs were the sweetest, likable characters in the story.
They were also rich and had a great work ethic, not to mention a caring attitude taking in Snow White. They were also mythical creatures, dwarfs in fantasy are a race not a condition. They do not see themselves as people with a condition that makes them abnormally short but as a race of Dwarfs. They are conflating the two things and its annoying.
