yes it's a '59 humbucker equivalent for Strats so you don't have to modify the body. However it seems Most American Standard Strat bodies have been factory routed for humbuckers in both bridge and neck for a number of years now so given a new scratchplate it would be easy to fit a full sized humbucker.
Hello I am Brazilian. I made sure to make my comment here. I installed on my Fender Strat, the "little 59" on the arm as you said, in the middle position the "Custom Shop Fat '50s Strat ®" (original bridge) and in the bridge position, a JBJR. It was wonderful. Thanks for the tip.
That sounds awesome. Thinking about putting in a lil 59 in the neck. I want a fatter tone than what my stock Fender neck pup gives but don't have the money to get a Les Paul, lol. I too have a Hot Rail in the bridge, although contemplating taking it out for a JB Jr.
Definitely thinking about a 59/custom bridge and lil 59 hss setup. My strat I use for heavier stuff has had a single hum no tone circuit setup with a Dimarzio evo for years and want to change things up.
I'm building me a strat I'm putting the Little 59 neck middle and Bridge I mostly Play Over the neck though keep on playing brother enjoy your Style enjoy your videos keep on picking
I checked this the other day because of the questions. I did originally change the pots to 500k. However I later then converted the guitar back to it's original state with the Fender single coils pups and at that point must have put the old pot back in. The pot in the guitar on this video measure almost 300k which seems to be way on the upper side of the tolerance of a CTS 250k pot. Anyway the pot stayed in when I put the Seymours back in and it is the one in use for this video.
Nice tone and sweet, smooth playing! I just installed this very pup in the neck of my '93 Strat Plus Dlx.....If you don't mind, I'm gonna totally rip you off, lol...great stuff.
Thanks, it's the Seymour Duncan Hot Rail in the bridge. It gives quite a volume increase when you flick over to it and the mid darkness is a nice full tone yet the top end cuts though if you are not careful can be a little harsh. Probably more of a rock/metal pup than blues.
Sounds great! The amp must be setup for a pronounced high end... the bridge pickup would sound unusable in my opinion ... but it still aounds great, but this pup does not have a lot of top end, you would have to dial it in if you want it to sound pike this and ignore the other pickups ... but when they are balanced it's definitely not as high... I wouldn't sag muddy, just darker
Although the Little 59 is darker sounding it does have some top edge. Using this 'plexi' style amp tone, although it has thick mid gain, the highs still cut through - that is the magic of the plexi amp tone. The SD Hot Rails in the bridge sounds amazing with the same amp settings - sounds aggressive but not harsh!
@@MattThorpe Awesome...I had my DNA tested and I am half English Irish Aisle. My dad was English and German mixed. I have been playing guitar for awhile...and your video caught my eye. Rock on Thorpe.
Eduardo Yanez I don't think it keeps the characteristics of a Strat , you definitely lose some chime and sparkle... if you have the right middle pickup , preferably a low output one you can get sone twang back on the 4th position... but this is more of a PAF sound. Sounds great though... I have this on the neck, a duckbucker in the mid and the ssl-5 on bridge. Al seymour duncan... best of both worlds... get the beefy humbucker sound with true si gle coil cut in the bridge side...
Albert Wellens I kept the original 250K pots. I tried a 500k Vol pot but found it was far too bright. The original supposedly 250K stock Vol pot turned out to be 300K when I measured it though!
lostnflorida No, I screwed the trem screws so the bridge/tail is tight down then inserted a block of mahogany between the trem block and the body from the back so that it wedges it preventing any movement whatsoever.
I have a JB in the bridge and a Lil 59 in the neck with a 3 position switch. Greatest sounds ever. I'm a fan of the Lil 59 for sure.
I'm going a similar route. Just grabbed a used SD Everyting Axe ser. Going to wire coil splits on them too.
...sweet tone there bud....the 59 in the neck is the way to go for me....not too muddy....but great bluesy crunch. Great playing too....
terrific playing, man! really gutsy with a great sound!

Great playing, Matt! I love sound you get with this pickup!

Just the sound I've been looking for! Great tone (and playing, too!)
true that, but thank God they made single coil sized HBs, some of us dont like the looks of a a fullsized bucker in a Strat...sweet playing
Master of the tone

I was listening to your playing I forgot about pickup you are demoing haha
Good selection in pickups all around. Lots of tonal options.
just ordered the liberator with everything pups installed going in my g&l s-500. Sounds sweet!

If you check out some of my other videos on the channel there is another with this guitar/pickup played through an Egnater Tweaker Tube amp.
Sound´s awesome on ur hands...
It's all in the PODxt though the modelling has a RAT pedal in the chain to push the tone
Sounds silky smooth, awesome man!

damn! those lil 59 sound great on the strat:) now I'm convince to get one for my 57 reissue strat:)
Killer tone. Cheers!
Lovely demo. someone who can play the guitar
Awesome!!! Killer Tone!!!

this is the exact sound i was looking for. Have you made any modifications in the wiring(coil split,,etc etc) ??
It's recorded direct to the video via USB using a Line 6 PODxt.
Awesome sound!!
Extra, super son, super guitariste, thanks for the movies :)
great tone bro

holy shit. i want that tone. how.
nice tone brother
Thanks so much for this video.
Sweet playing and great tone from the fingers man (and the Lil 59 sounds good)! Which blade have you in the bridge and how did you like it?
Nice Playing Matt!
Great soulful playing ... Im also curious about the Pot if it is 250K or 500K
Excellent playing ,a lot like the stuff i do,..and i digg it!
Sounds kinda the sound of joe cocker at woodstock!
Matt...hello
Name is Mike Thorpe, my mother wanted to name me Matt. Keep up the good work Thorpie.
Hello to you Thorpie! nice to hear from you. Where are you based in the world?
Cleveland Ohio...and you?

is the little '59 supposed to be like a les paul sound?
Blues Deluxe lick!
thanks so much!!
Are you using any pedals or amp gain or is the pick-up just breaking up that much?
And you sound like Clapton!
Did you change your pots to 500k? please let us know thanks
I'm looking into purchasing this pickup, would you say it maintains the characteristic sound of a strat but adds some beef?

Dear, did you use 250k pot or 500k ?
my little 59, in two position, the volume is not good
We can only use in strato?
Hi,
Did you change the pots vol + 2 tones for 500k ones or did you keep the original ones 250k ?
Albert Wellens I kept the original 250K pots. I tried a 500k Vol pot but found it was far too bright. The original supposedly 250K stock Vol pot turned out to be 300K when I measured it though!
Matt Thorpe
thanks Matt, because I have found everywhere that when you put a humbucker on strt you have to switch the pot for 500K
Do you use your tremolo or made it a hard tail?
lostnflorida No, I screwed the trem screws so the bridge/tail is tight down then inserted a block of mahogany between the trem block and the body from the back so that it wedges it preventing any movement whatsoever.
you can send me the circuit diagram of your guitar?
What kind of amp are you using?
Delicious!
nasıl lezzetli bi ton anasını satayım yaa :)
nice playin Matt. I get the feeling you'd made a piece of shit guitar sound awesome also.
