That Mini is definitely one of the oldest in the country. I've seen a '59 at a show. It had been restored to immaculate condition and was probably going to be spending most of its time on a trailer. I have a '61 Countryman, and I'm aware of two or three others of the same vintage in Ontario. Even if Al just gives it a "make it ready for the road" restoration, it'll be a gem!

Another hour's fun with CWM. I owned a 1960 Morris Mini Minor in 1968 - a rusting heap with no 1st gear, vanishing subframe and battery tray and leaky weatherproofing. It also stopped and refused to restart in moderate to heavy rain. All common Mini faults. Once assembled, Al's Mini will be in much better condition than mine was then. In the UK, the Austin Seven label was dropped in 1962 in favour of just Austin Mini.

Nice to see the progress of the new structure as well as the Plymouth as always! Going crazy not seeing tire dressing and original hubcaps on it. Poor Dodge must have been put on the sidelines way back when because of transmission problems, but it was loved too much to get rid of. That Datsun wagon would sure be a great sleeper with stock wheels, hubcaps on it. Nobody would suspect a thing with it. The early Mini Al grabbed deserves as much attention as that gorgeous Citroen you are perfecting, especially being the factory red one it is.

A shining linseed oil finish. Just too sexy for her clothes. Again the Fury has raised her feathers and said; no one will take that away from her. I really like that Fury and the chance of quality run or as I hear you say "Let's go for a rip"! All get out of the fifty model and make the best for this cars interior and start getting into a small back seat on the Fury and then all into the mini and out of the start up mode all together... no doing more damage as your a quick learn on doing it right. Hi Scott,
Loving the content, the fury’s really getting there- patience is a must with the trim fittings, amazing how quick the modern small capacity turbo engines can be - really makes you speechless, Al’s Mini is sooo rare and here in the UK if on sale would be frighteningly expensive compared to what they cost when sold New, -so many early parts, the newer drivers door/alloy kick panel is wrong for the earlier car, get Al to check the inside of the wheels see if there welded or Riveted- the earlier ones we’re riveted, Engine has four blade - Export fan fitted, is the gear lever straight or bowed, earlier ones would be straight- really an extra special find would love to see this restored n driven
Thanks again - stay safe 👍

    Great update as usual!
Watching the huge trim piece getting installed gives me nightmares.
I am working on one of my old Pontiacs. For ages I have been collecting trim pieces and I was trying to find fitting and intact molding clips. The few originals I had did not hold on the body anymore, broke in half or crumbled to pieces. I had to make my own clips, using modern days plastic "pinetree" clips that I put on steel plates I made from scratch. Then I had to drill holes in the body in the right spots Some jerk threw all the original moldings away and welded some of the original holes close and covered the rest with bondo.
When I finally installed the longest trim, an original clip slid out. I had to pull the molding a bit to replace it with a self made one. now the trim does not sit as it did at first.
3 days of work and more than half of the moldings are not yet in place as they should. (The problem are always the clips that are not reachable from the inside and cannot be screwed in place).
I had to have a one week break from my molding disaster. It takes a lot of nerves and patience to work on things like that.

Slick trick using vinegar to remove rust! I'm taking notes. The "gas station" garage has good styling, the pointed gable roof, wide fascia and the vintage enameled steel panels is all good design and a bit retro! I've never seen Datsun 510 wagon like that before, the ultimate sleeper! What a great find and great car that Mini is, it's a valuable car.

Just used vinegar to wash the bathroom floor, should not be surprised that it removes rust too. Gotta get the back wheels for the Super 510, that's is a wild ride !

looking at the care and attention required to fit all those mouldings I can only imagine how crushed that the line workers felt every time Virgil Exner drew the next years model (not more bloody trim) these cars are the most beautiful cars of their time cant wait to see it finished awesome

I have an 81 Dodge D 150, It's a stepside (Utiline in Dodge talk) and I replaced every brake line on it from the junction block to the wheels and the rear wheel cylinders because I was doing the shoes and they were under $10.00 for the pair at the time! I like this truck because I lowered it way down out of necessity, The right front spring broke on the end so I cut the left to match, cut the bump stops off and put shorter ones on! In the rear the spring mounts rusted of of the frame so I cut them down to good metal and welded them back on to the frame about 8 inches lower than original! Can't wait to see the addition done! I love the Datsun wagon, I hated them when they were new because I live in Ohio and they rotted so bad in the snow belt that Datsun bought them back after I had laid under countless ones welding the uni rails back in and building strut mounts! I have respect for any old car from the 70's and older that has survived no matter what it is Especially when it's fast enough to scare you!! The Fury is looking absolutely beautiful! I got a kick out of the camera mans comment about you taking the lower rear quarter mouldings off and there was nothing under them and you answered that it was the hardest part to build and you made it perfect just to cover it up with chrome! That's what separates the craftsmen from the hacks! My former business partner and I both happened to have the same cars and when he built some patches in his quarters he overlapped the metal and left his rough as a sack full of door knobs because the chrome covered it, When I did mine which was twice as bad I was working it like there was no chrome to cover it and he got mad at me but I couldn't leave it rough! He kept carrying on that it was stupid to make it smooth and cover it with chrome! I told him that if he couldn't run with the big dogs to stay on the porch! Then I told him the real answer, I didn't care if nobody could see it I would know it was there! For some reason even I couldn't explain it had to be perfect even if it was covered! I could see how happy you were for your Mini me buddy that he found such a cool car but I saw the disappointment when he said he wasn't going to paint it! We are from the same era when a good car got a perfect paint job! You have blown my mind on the Plymouth though with the panel shaping and the stainless repairs! You are getting close to a concourse restoration on this car! Sorry to ramble on but I'm old and that's what us old men do! I have 40 some cars to play with and I see yours and want to come and make them run and fix the brakes so they can be driven, The floors and rockers are easy if you can find old garage door tracks to use for the rockers then old roofs and other body panels to patch the floors! Then while you are at the junkyard get rocker mouldings from the cars that are there to cut and make fit to hide the garage door track! I have two modes Perfectionist and make do! Nothing in between!

By gum that Mini is an amazing find, the condition of the tinwork, the seams etc, wow. I'd not realised that the plan with the building was to replicate an old service station, can't wait to see it.

Nice work on the brake line. I had a 1996 Chevy 1500 WT and the line went. Had to use the parking brake for the next 2 days... mostly country. I didn't even bother bending the line similar to resemble the old line. In places where it was going to rub, I just wrapped it with fuel line for protection. The hill-billy approach. My frame was nearly as rusty as yours, if not the same. Layers of metal were just peeling off. Dad said not to worry, it was over built.

In hindsight seeing Scots reaction to the Turbo Datsun - being a biker too he is used to acceleration - however he could someday retort with a Blown Straight Eight or simply glide along in the Fury - Ultra Cool as the vision is surreal. Takes a Lot to make the vision a reality. Big Respect and thanks for the extra videos that really brightened the weeks by. Intereting Austin 850 too,

The Mini would be worth a fortune here in the UK.. there are a few other unique features that show its a very early car. The front and rear screen surrounds are flush, i.e. no joggle for the screen rubber. the front wing A panels have no joins, they were pressed out as a complete side panel with the rear quarters and the door catches where unique.. Ask al if he has the horn button as these are made of unabtainium, similar to the Morris Minor but a smaller size. love the show Scott...
