    Looks great. Looks to be mostly complete with some bit needing a bit of work.
    The contractors are slow on this one though, they are years late.

    Great shots but it's just one long straight stretch threw fields nothing much to see🤦🤦😢 a railway would have been fantastic and a huge boost for youghal

      True , its one very long straight stretch with no scenery , too long for walkers . Will only be utilised by people on bikes

      @@dronehawk And people with disabilities cannot use these greenways, something I feel cycling advocates fail to appreciate when they promote these greenways as public transport options.

    Had they reopeoned the railway line from Midleton to Youghal, they could have taken thousands of cars off the road. It would also have given Youghal a majour tourism boost. A lost oppertunity.

      I'd have turned it into a heritage line , steam trains taking tourists up to midelton and the Distillery and back again with regular passenger trains in between. But no slap down some tarmac and call it a day

    Parts of railway line not greenway should reopen to trains to stop Pollution, Car Accidents, Road Deaths & Traffic Jams.

    What a waste of a perfectly good commuter railway alignment :(

      Agreed, a waste of good rail service just like the rest of these greenways tbh, the government are too lazy to make a good and decent railway network tbh, also need to service more trains and such tbh

    • @jankford

      Never enough demand to justify heavy rail

    • @mlc4495
      @mlc4495 2 месяца назад

      @@jankford There's not enough demand because the quality of the services were poor.
      Poor services > low passenger demand > curtailed services > lower passenger demand > eventual line closure.

      Rail line was abandoned 40 years ago. Last regular passenger service was 60 years ago.
      All surveys showed there was no demand for a rail line. Most of the N25 traffic is coming much further from youghal.
      Midleton to Cork line has barely a dozen passengers most times and the railway car parks are usually half empty.
      A rail line would only serve people who live and work within a very small radius of a train station, and theres not many of those. Population density in Mogeely and Killeagh is very low. It's even a 20 min walk from the centre of Youghal to the youghal train station.
      Most N25 traffic at Cork is through Jack Lynch tunnel so these people won't be getting the train anyways.

      @dronehawk  Месяц назад

      @@mlc4495I think the huge increase in car ownership had a massive impact also.

  • @mlc4495
    @mlc4495 2 месяца назад

    I'm not opposed to greenways but using mothballed rail lines is a terrible idea. We wouldn't have had the Luas or the Foynes reopening had those track alignments not been kept in stasis for future use.

    Absolute joke that there wasn’t the political will to reinstate a railway. Also I can’t believe it’s taken so long to bring it to completion…the people of east cork deserve good public transport. Traffic in Castlemartyr and Killeagh is a joke…

    • @weeeeehhhhh
      @weeeeehhhhh Месяц назад

      A train line wouldn't put a dent in this traffic. The N24 is going to be upgraded so traffic from Waterford will have a better alternative to the N25
