Truth is that only a small fraction of people (Bengalis residing in West Bengal) east Hilsa.
The vast majority of other people in India have either never heard of Hilsa or think that the fish is too bony to eat.
Even many Bengalis in West Bengal cannot eat this because of too many bones.
And most of the younger generation in West Bengal do not eat Hilsa

In Bangladesh there is a ban on fishing Hilsga for three months to help mother hilsha to lay eggs. Unfortunately a similar ban has not been placed by the Indian government because of which it gets over fished by the Indian fisherman but the Bangladeshi fisherman suffer due to lack of any other sources of income.
Anyone who wishes to be born in Pakistan or Bangladesh can comment back! Their wish will be fulfilled!
